Amit Shah Takes Charge, Vows Fight Against Terror, Naxalism

Union Minister Amit Shah on Tuesday took charge of India’s Home Ministry for the second consecutive term under the Modi 3.0 Cabinet, asserting the new government will take its efforts for the country’s “security to the next level and build Bharat as a bulwark against terrorism, insurgency, and naxalism.”

Shah made the statement through his social media handle ‘X’ soon after taking charge as Minister of Home Affairs in the fresh list of 30 cabinet ministers under the Modi 3.0 government.

“Under the stewardship of PM Shri @narendramodi Ji, I reassumed charge of the Ministry of Home Affairs today. The MHA will remain committed to the security of the nation and its people, as it always has been. Modi 3.0 will take its efforts for India’s security to the next level and build Bharat as a bulwark against terrorism, insurgency, and naxalism,” Shah posted on X.

The Home Minister took charge after paying floral tributes at the National Police Memorial in memory of India’s police force personnel who laid down their lives guarding the honour of the nation.

If Shah serves for another five consecutive years, he would become India’s longest-serving home minister. Congress’ Govind Ballabh Pant and BJP’s LK Advani served as Union Home Ministers for just over six years each, while Shah and Rajnath Singh, the Union Home Minister during the first Modi government, have each spent five years in the North Block.

Under Shah, the immediate challenge for the Centre and the MHA is to ensure the conduct of Assembly polls in Jammu and Kashmir and restore its statehood, which was converted into a Union Territory five years ago. Another challenge is the implementation of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita 2023, Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita 2023, and Bharatiya Sakshya Adhiniyam 2023, which are set to replace the Indian Penal Code, the Code of Criminal Procedure, and the Indian Evidence Act. These laws, piloted by Shah in Parliament in 2023, are scheduled to come into effect on July 1.

Alongside 59-year-old Shah, Nityanand Rai, who served as Minister of State (MoS) for Home in the previous administration, has also resumed his role in the government. Rai also took charge as MoS Home a few minutes after Shah. Telangana MP Bandi Sanjay Kumar, the former president of the BJP’s Telangana unit, will serve as the second MoS in the ministry, replacing Ajay Kumar, who lost the Lok Sabha election from Uttar Pradesh’s Kheri. Bandi will take charge in the coming days. (ANI)

Manipur Situation Should Be A Priority: RSS Chief Bhagwat

Asserting that the situation in Manipur must be considered with “priority”, Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) Chief Mohan Bhagwat said that North eastern state has been awaiting “peace” for a year.

The statement of Bhagwat comes after PM Modi took charge as Prime Minister of the country for the third term. Bhagwat said that it is the “duty to prioritise it and take note of it”.

Bhagwat was addressing the closing ceremony RSS worker’s development class in Maharashtra’s Nagpur.

“Manipur has been looking for peace for a year now. It should be discussed on priority. The state had been peaceful for the past 10 years. It felt like the old ‘gun culture’ had come to a demise. It is still burning in the fire of the sudden tension that rose there or that was made to rise there. Who will pay attention to that?It is the duty to prioritise it and take note of it.”, said the RSS Chief.

The northeastern state has been witnessing ethnic violence since May 3 last year following clashes during a rally organised by the All Tribals Students Union (ATSU) to protest against the demand for the inclusion of the Meitei community in the Scheduled Tribe category.

Meanwhile, the RSS Chief also mentioned the violation of the ‘Code of Conduct’ by various political parties during the Lok Sabha polls.

“Elections are an essential process of democracy, there are two parties in it, hence there is competition, if there is competition then there is a task of moving one forward and pushing others backwards. Don’t use it, why are people getting elected? They will go and sit in the Parliament and run the country, they will run it by building consensus, our tradition is to run by building consensus. The mind and psyche of each person are different, hence it is not possible to have similar opinions, but when people in the society decide to move together despite having different minds, then mutual consent is formed. There are two parties in Parliament so both sides are exposed, it is a bit difficult to reach a consensus among people who have come into competition, that is why we take the hope of a majority, there is competition, not mutual war,” Bhagwat said.

“The way we started criticizing each other, and the way our actions in the campaign would increase discord in the society, divide two groups, and create mutual suspicion, was also not taken care of, and organizations like Sangh were also drawn into this, technology falsehoods were served with props, absolute lies; gentlemen do not use this science”, he added.

The RSS Chief stressed that it is important to follow decorum during the elections.

“There is decorum even in contesting elections, that decorum was not followed, because it is necessary to follow decorum because the challenges before our country have not ended”, he said.

Heaping praise on the NDA government, Bhagwat said, “The government has been formed, the NDA government has come back, a lot of good things have happened in the last 10 years, the economic situation is getting very good, the strategic situation is better than before, the prestige of the country has increased in the world, arts, sports, knowledge, science and culture. The countries of the world have started accepting that we are moving forward in the field of agriculture, but this does not mean that we are free from challenges.”

The RSS Chief also mentioned, “Everything will go on according to the verdict of the people. We do not get into questions like why and how. We perform our duties.”

Earlier on Sunday, the President of India Droupadi Murmu, meanwhile, appointed Narendra Modi as the Prime Minister of India at the magnificent swearing-in ceremony that took place on June 9 with 30 cabinet ministers, 36 MoS, 5 MoS (independent charge) from the BJP and its allies joining the party-led NDA government.

Meanwhile, the allocation of portfolios in the “Modi 3.0” cabinet took place today. (ANI)

Wasim Akram on Pakistan Defeat

Bring In A New Team: Wasim Akram After Pak Cricket Defeat

Following their defeat against India in the T20 World Cup 2024, former Pakistan captain Wasim Akram lashed out at the Men in Green for their performance in the crucial match.

After being bowled out for 119, India bowlers turned things around for Men in Blue as Jasprit Bumrah’s masterclass and Hardik Pandya’s crunch wickets powered India to a narrow but significant win over rivals Pakistan in Group A of the ICC T20 World Cup at the Nassau County International Cricket Stadium.

Akram said that the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) had to act decisively to address problems in Pakistani cricket because he had had enough. The former captain made a strong argument, stating that it was preferable to lose a match with six or seven inexperienced players than it was to lose one with seasoned international cricketers who had no understanding of the game at all.

“Enough is enough. We need changes now. Bring in a new team, six to seven players and then back them through losses so they can develop as a team. It’s time for the PCB chairman to take a bold step. We keep hearing [of the team] that this guy isn’t talking to that guy, or that guy isn’t talking to him. This was the best New York pitch so far, it wasn’t that difficult. How difficult was it to chase 120?” Akram said as quoted by ESPNcricinfo.

The former skipper said that after 6-run loss to arch-rival India, Pakistan doesn’t deserve to take place in Super 8s of the ongoing T20 World Cup.

“After this performance, I don’t think Pakistan deserve to go into the Super 8s,” he added.

After defeats in the first two matches, Pakistan must win their two remaining Group A matches to stand any chance of progressing.

Having bundled out India for 119, Pakistan did not lose many wickets early but they also did not score many runs in the run chase as the innings progressed. They were 72 for 2 in 12 overs. Pandya and Bumrah planned a collapse. With the first ball of his second stint, Bumrah broke through Mohammad Rizwan’s stumps, and Hardik removed Fakhar Zaman with a superb short ball. Pakistan failed to wrap up the match, suffering their second defeat in the tournament. (ANI)

Jaishankar Retains MEA Berth In Modi Cabinet 3.0

A day after Prime Minister Narendra Modi and his council of ministers were sworn in at Rashtrapati Bhavan, BJP leader S Jaishankar retained the Ministry of External Affairs.

Jaishankar took oath as Union Cabinet Minister at Rashtrapati Bhavan on Sunday. The BJP leader served as External Affairs Minister during Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s second term from 2019-2024.

He has been a BJP MP in Rajya Sabha from Gujarat since 2019. Jaishankar, who has made headlines for his witty replies and oratory skills, has been at the center stage in the team shaping India’s foreign policy for the past decade.

Prior to being the EAM in 2019, Jaishankar also served as India’s Foreign Secretary from 2015 to 2018. Notably, he also became the first Foreign Secretary to assume the role of External Affairs Minister.

Jaishankar’s tenure which began in 2019 as India’s EAM came amid massive uncertainties owing to global turbulence and conflicts. His tenure saw episodes like the Russia-Ukraine conflict, the Israel-Hamas war, and the Covid pandemic, all of which left a strong impact on not just the Indian economy but also that of the whole world.

But, during these turbulent times, India’s stand was marked by the priority of ‘Nation First’. Regarding the Russia-Ukraine conflict, India has always condemned civilian killings and called for a peaceful resolution to the conflict. However, despite pressure from the West, India has not refrained from purchasing Russian oil below the price cap.

In the Israel-Hamas war, India strongly condemned the October 7 terror attack but has also continued with its weight behind the ‘two-state solution’ to the long-running Israel-Palestine conflict. India has also sent humanitarian aid to the people of Gaza as part of its commitment.

Jaishankar, who entered India’s Foreign Service in 1977, has served as India’s envoy in several prominent countries such as the United States (2013-15) and China (2009-13). He also served as India’s Ambassador to Czech Republic (2000-04) and Indian High Commissioner to Singapore (2007-09).

In his earlier stints, he served as third secretary and second secretary at the Indian Embassy in the Soviet Union (before the disintegration of the Soviet Union). Jaishankar also worked as an undersecretary in the Ministry of External Affairs’ Americas Division.

Recently, Jaishankar also made a deeper foray into politics, by taking part in the election campaign for the BJP. He addressed several interactions and events and elaborated on how India has asserted it globally with its foreign policy.

During one of the events, Jaishankar slammed the Western media over the “negative” coverage of Indian elections and said that the countries that “have to go to court for deciding election results” are giving “gyan” on conducting polls.

In another event, he underscored that “Viksit Bharat” is not just a slogan but a serious commitment towards India’s future.

“I can feel today that we are at the point of something very big. The world is also watching us. I see these 25 years as a period of new opportunities, new technologies, and new challenges,” he said. (ANI)
