Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday chaired a meeting to review the situation of the ongoing heatwave in the country and the preparedness for the onset of monsoon at his residence in the national capital.

The Prime Minister was briefed that as per IMD forecasts, the heat wave is likely to continue in parts of Rajasthan, Gujarat, and Madhya Pradesh.

This year, the monsoon is likely to be normal and above normal in most parts of the country and below normal in parts of Peninsular India, the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) stated.

PM Modi has instructed that proper drills for preventing and handling incidents of fire must be done on a regular basis.

“Fire audit and electrical safety audit of hospitals and other public places must be undertaken regularly,” he instructed.

He also said that regular drills for the maintenance of firelines in forests and productive utilization of biomass must be planned.

The Prime Minister was informed about the usefulness of the “van agni” portal in the timely identification of forest fires and their management.

The Principal Secretary to the PM, Cabinet Secretary, Home Secretary, Secretary, Ministry of Earth Sciences, DG NDRF, and Member Secretary, NDMA along with other senior officials from PMO and concerned Ministries were also present in the meeting.

With scorching heatwaves gripping several parts of the country, at least 56 deaths from heatstroke have been confirmed in multiple states by the National Centre for Disease Control (NCDC), sources said on Saturday.

The Southwest Monsoon hit the coast of Kerala and advanced into parts of northeast India from Thursday, said the Indian Meteorological Department

This year’s Monsoon onset is two days earlier as the usual date of the onset is on June 1.

This year, Kerala experienced widespread pre-monsoon rains.

In 2023, rainfall over the country as a whole during the monsoon season (June-September), was 94 per cent of its long-period average. (ANI)

Recalling the sacrifices made by freedom fighter Bhagat Singh, the Delhi Chief Minister said that he is ready to be hanged to save the country, adding that every minute of his life is dedicated to saving the nation.

Ahead of his scheduled surrender before the Tihar Jail authorities, the Delhi Chief Minister addressed the Aam Aadmi Party workers.

“Bhagat Singh said that when power becomes a dictatorship, then jail becomes a responsibility. Bhagat Singh was hanged to free the country. This time, when I am going to jail, I don’t know when I will come back. I don’t know what they will do with me? If Bhagat Singh was hanged, I am also ready to be hanged. My every drop of blood, my life is dedicated to this country,” Kejriwal said.

Questioning the BJP and PM Modi about his arrest in the money laundering case linked to the alleged Delhi liquor policy scam, Chief Minister Kejriwal said that he is fighting against the dictatorship.

“PM Modi said in an interview that I believe that there is no proof or recovery against Kejriwal because he is an experienced thief. Let’s assume that I am an experienced thief, you don’t have any proof or any recovery against me, so you put me in jail without any proof? How can you put me in jail according to your own wishes without any proof? I am fighting against this dictatorship, and our country cannot tolerate this kind of dictatorship,” he said.

Calling the exit polls “fake”, which have predicted the BJP’s return to power, Kejriwal said that the ruling party is trying to create an atmosphere due to multiple factors.

“Why are they conducting fake exit polls? Many are saying that when the stock market opens tomorrow, they will earn profits and sell the stocks. Also, by conducting these fake exit polls, officers will be asked to do whatever they wish. They will tell the officers, see we are coming, and be asked to do their bid.”

Urging party workers to remain cautious on the counting day, Kejriwal said, “Match VVPAT slips carefully. Report if there is any mismatch.”

Kejriwal was arrested by the ED on March 21 in connection with a money laundering probe relating to alleged irregularities in the now-cancelled Delhi excise policy 2021-22.

On May 10, the Supreme Court granted Kejriwal interim bail till June 1 in the money laundering case registered by the ED in connection with the Delhi excise policy. However, it ordered that Kejriwal not visit the Office of the Chief Minister or the Delhi Secretariat. (ANI)

Congress leader Rahul Gandhi on Sunday referred to Punjabi singer Siddhu Moosewala’s ‘295 track’ to reply to the number of seats the INDIA bloc will win in the Lok Sabha polls.

While in conversation with reporters in Delhi, on being asked about the number of seats the INDIA bloc would win in the Lok Sabha polls, Rahul Gandhi jokingly replied, “Sidhu Moose Wala ka song suna hai aapne?” (Have you heard Sidhu Moose Wala’s song) referring to “295”; he replied 295 seats.

Further, speaking on the exit polls, the Congress leader said, “It is not exit poll, it is Modi media poll. It is his fantasy poll.”

Congress today held a meeting with the party’s Lok Sabha candidates to discuss the strategy for counting day on June 4.

After the meeting, Congress general secretary KC Venugopal said, “We have discussed with our PCC presidents, CMs, in-charges and candidates, they are all very confident. This exit poll is a bogus poll for the government. INDIA alliance will get 295 seats and certainly form the government.”

Notably, the INDIA bloc delegation will meet the Election Commission today at 4:30 pm at Nirvachan Sadan in New Delhi.

Earlier today, Jairam Ramesh rejected the Exit Poll projections and termed them as a “Psychological game”.

“The outgoing PM, the person who will have to leave for sure on June 4 has conspired all these things and has managed the exit polls. There will be a huge difference in exit polls and results of June 4. INDIA alliance had a meeting yesterday, we did detailed discussions on numbers, it’s impossible that INDIA alliance will get anything below 295, ” Congress Rajya Sabha MP Jairam Ramesh said.

According to India Today-Axis My India exit polls, NDA is predicted to win 361-401 seats in the Lok Sabha polls. The INDIA bloc is expected to win 131-166 seats, it said and gave 8 to 20 seats to other parties.

The Republic PMarq exit poll gave 359 of 543 seats to NDA, 154 to INDIA bloc and 30 to others. Republic Matrize poll gave 353-368 seats to NDA, 118-113 to the INDIA bloc and 43-48 to others. The NewsX Dynamics gave 371 seats to NDA, 125 to INDIA bloc and 47 to others. (ANI)

Showcasing a strong connection to his Indian roots, 12-year-old Bruhat Soma, a seventh-grade Indian-American student from Florida who emerged victorious at the 2024 Scripps National Spelling Bee, revealed his accomplishment of memorising 80 per cent of the Bhagavad Gita.

“So, actually, the Bhagavad Gita, I did this program called Pragma, and it taught me the Vishnu, Saranamam and the Bhagavad Gita. And, yeah, the Bhagavad Gita is 700 slokas. And then they teach, like, a few slokas per class, and then we memorized them,” Soma told ANI.

“I slowly started memorising Bhagavad Gita, then I started doing spelling a bit more but now I am going to continue finishing the Bhagavad Gita… I do believe (in divine power) because God makes several things happen,” he added.

Describing his heritage and roots, 12-year-old Soma said he is from Telangana and said that he was very excited to know his relatives were rooting for him.

He said, “So, in India, I’m from Telangana, and I’ll probably go back in any summer, like, for vacation, or one of my relatives, they’re planning her wedding, so I might go back then, but, yeah, it depends. But I’ll probably go back pretty soon.”

Expressing his excitement at winning the championship, Bruhat shared, “When I won, I was excited. I was really happy because, for the past year, I’ve been working hard. So when I just won, it was like a dream come true.”

Being of Indian-American descent, Bruhat’s victory holds special significance for many in India who were rooting for him. He told ANI, “A lot of my relatives are in India, most of them are in India. They’ve sent congratulations. A lot of them watch the video. So, yeah, that’s pretty exciting to know that all of my relatives back in India were rooting for me.”

Despite winning a significant prize of USD 50,000, Bruhat intends to donate the amount to a worthy cause.

“Well, I mean, for the USD 50,000, I’ve decided to donate it to a good cause, but I don’t know the cause yet. But yeah, it will be for a good cause,” he said.

Looking ahead, Bruhat aspires to become a doctor and believes that his championship win will aid him in achieving his goal.

“Yeah, I want to be a doctor when I grow up, and this championship is going to help me get into a good university to study medicine better,” he underlined. (ANI)

A day after the exit polls predicted the BJP-led NDA to another victory in the Lok Sabha elections, Congress on Sunday held a meeting with the party’s Lok Sabha candidates.

Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge, leader Rahul Gandhi and party general secretary KC Venugopal chaired the meeting.

Congress Legislature Party (CLP) leaders and Pradesh Congress Committee presidents also attended the meeting via video conferencing.

The meeting is being held to discuss the strategy for counting day on June 4. The Congress party has rejected the Exit Poll projections that showed PM Narendra Modi returning to power with a greater mandate.

Earlier, the India News- NewsX-D-Dynamics released its exit poll prediction for the Lok Sabha election 2024. As per the exit poll, the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is slated to win as many as 315 seats of the 543 seats on its own, and 371 seats in alliance with its NDA partners.

The Congress, meanwhile, will win as many as 60 seats, and 125 seats in alliance with the other INDI Alliance parties. Other parties that are not in alliance with the NDA or the INDI Alliance are expected to win 47 seats, it predicted.

If the exit poll predictions come true on June 4 when votes are counted, Prime Minister Narendra Modi will become the only PM after Jawaharlal Nehru to win three successive terms in Lok Sabha polls. A scuffle has been reported outside actor Raveena Tandon’s house last night when her driver was parking the car in the building premises.

According to the Mumbai Police, while the driver was reversing the car, a family was passing in front of the building’s gate. Thinking that the car would hit them, a scuffle broke out between Raveena Tandon’s driver and three women of the family over the issue.

Raveena came out of the house after she heard the arguments between her driver and the family However, after a lot of arguments, both parties left.

Upon getting information, when the police reached the spot, they questioned Raveena’s staff and called both parties to Khar Police Station.

Neither anyone was injured in the incident nor were the vehicles collided, police said, adding no complaint has been filed by any side.

Meanwhile, on the work front, Raveena recently wowed the audiences with her compelling performance in the Disney+ Hotstar courtroom drama ‘Patna Shuklla’, alongside co-stars late Satish Kaushik and Manav Vij.

New Delhi [India], June 2 (ANI): Prime Minister Narendra Modi will hold seven meetings on a wide range of topics on Sunday, including a brainstorming session to review the agenda for the new government’s first 100 days, sources said.

According to government sources, the first meeting will be held to review the post-cyclone situation, especially in the northeastern states. Then, he will hold a meeting to review the heatwave situation in the country.

He will also hold a meeting to review the preparations to celebrate World Environment Day (June 5) on a large scale. Then he will hold a long brain-storming session to review the agenda for a 100-day program of the new government after the exit polls predicted a massive win for the BJP.

The exit poll outcomes were declared after the conclusion of polling for the seventh and final phase of Lok Sabha polls on Saturday.

They have predicted that the BJP-led National Democratic Alliance is poised for a hat-trick win in Lok Sabha polls with a massive majority and indicated that the ruling party at the Centre would improve its performance in several states ruled by opposition parties.

A few exit polls even predicted that the BJP-led NDA could reach the goal of “400 paar” as claimed by BJP leaders in the run-up to the Lok Sabha polls.

The exit polls predicted that the ruling BJP-led NDA is poised to improve its performance over its 2019 record when it won 352 seats. Two polls predicted the BJP also improving its numbers from the 303 seats it won in the 2019 Lok Sabha polls.

Indian teenage chess sensation R Pragananadhaa continued with his dominating ways in the ongoing Norway Chess competition as he defeated the world number two player Fabiano Caruana in round five in a classical chess game on Saturday night.

With this victory, he defeated both world number one Magnus Carlsen of Norway and the world number two Caruana in classic chess for the first time ever.

His heroics at the ongoing competition have also brought him into the top ten of the International Chess Federation (FIDE) World Rankings.

After toppling World No.1 Magnus Carlsen in Round 3, he’s now beaten the top two players in classical chess for the first time ever, rocketing into the top 10! Just a day after registering his first classical win over the five-time World Champion Magnus Carlsen, India’s star prodigy Praggnanandhaa R went down against America’s Hikaru Nakamura in Round 4 of the Norway Chess 2024 at the SpareBank 1 SR-Bank on Thursday.

Nakamura displayed masterful preparation against Praggnanandhaa, who sacrificed a knight in a desperate bid to save the game. Nakamura, having anticipated this very sacrifice, played flawlessly and secured a convincing victory to climb to the top spot of the overall standings.
