Airlines in India on Friday reported that their systems across the network are impacted by an ongoing outage in Microsoft Azure. Flyers are advised to reach out to their respective airlines for information on the flights.

Microsoft Azure, or just Azure, is the cloud computing platform developed by Microsoft. It offers management, access, and development of applications and services to individuals, companies, and governments.

“Our systems across the network are impacted by an ongoing issue with Microsoft Azure, which has resulted in increased wait times at our contact centres and airports. You may experience slower check-ins and longer queues,” Indigo said in an advisory.

“We are all hands on deck and are working relentlessly to restore stability and normalcy. Our digital team is also coordinating closely with Microsoft Azure to resolve these issues swiftly. We appreciate your patience and understanding during this time,” the advisory added.

A similar disruption was reported by Akasa Air earlier today. Akasa Air said due to infrastructure issues with the service provider, “some of our online services, including booking, check-in and manage booking services will be temporarily unavailable”

Currently, Akasa is following manual check-in and boarding processes at the airports and hence requested passengers with immediate travel plans to reach the airport early to check in at the counters.

“We sincerely regret the inconvenience caused and want to assure you that our teams are working with our service provider to resolve the same at the earliest,” Akasa said in an X post.

SpiceJet also reported similar issues.

“We’re currently facing a technical issue in providing updates on flight disruptions. Our team is actively working to resolve this issue. We regret any inconvenience caused and will update you once the issue is resolved. Thank you for your patience and co-operation,” said SpiceJet in a brief statement on X.

Exact details, including number of flights or passengers affected due to the disruption in services, were not available immediately.

Microsoft meanwhile said they were investigating the issue impacting users’ ability to access various Microsoft 365 apps and services.

“We’re working on rerouting the impacted traffic to alternate systems to alleviate impact in a more expedient fashion. Our services are still seeing continuous improvements while we continue to take mitigation action,” Microsoft said in its latest update. (ANI)

After a row erupted over eateries on the Kanwar Yatra route in Uttar Pradesh’s Muzaffarnagar being asked to display their owners’ names, Janata Dal (United), the ally of the BJP government at the centre, asked the Uttar Pradesh government to review the Muzaffarnagar order or to take the order back.

Speaking to ANI, Janata Dal (United) leader KC Tyagi said that a Kanwar Yatra bigger than this (in UP) takes place in Bihar.

“A Kanwar Yatra bigger than this (in UP) takes place in Bihar. No such order is in effect there. These prohibitions that have been imposed are in violation of ‘Sabka Saath, Sabka Vikas, Sabka Vishwas’ that the PM speaks of. The order is not in effect in Bihar nor in Rajasthan and Jharkhand. It would be good if it is reviewed. This order should be taken back,” KC Tyagi told ANI.

Earlier today, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath mandated that food and beverage shops along Kanwar routes display the name and identity of the operator/owner to maintain the sanctity of the pilgrims’ faith. Additionally, action will be taken against those selling halal-certified products.

The move by the Uttar Pradesh government to enforce the use of ID Cards by all shops in the state that fall along the Kanwar Yatra route has resulted in a political slugfest between the BJP and the opposition.

On Thursday, the Muzaffarnagar Police had urged all eateries along the Kanwar route to “voluntarily display” the names of their owners and employees, adding that the intention of this order is not to create any kind of “religious discrimination” but only to facilitate the devotees.

DIG Ajay Kumar Sahni said, “Police is continuously patrolling the entire Kanwar route. Talks are being held with Kanwar committees, and hotel-dhaba owners and it is being determined that all the hotels and dhabas should maintain cleanliness, and put up rate lists…names of hotel-dhaba owners should be written…everyone has been told about this and everyone agrees to it. Essentially everyone has to do this…adequate arrangements have been made for Kanwar camps.””

However, the move has drawn sharp criticism from the opposition parties, that have accused the UP government of singling out one community.

Earlier on Thursday, Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav labelled the order as a “social crime” and called for court intervention, questioning the intention behind the government and administration’s actions.

“What will be known from the name of the person whose name is Guddu, Munna, Chhotu or Fateh? The honourable court should take suo-motto cognizance investigate the intention of the government behind such administration, and take appropriate punitive action. Such orders are social crimes that want to spoil the peaceful environment of harmony,” he said in a post on X.

AIMIM chief Asaduddin Owaisi condemned the order, likening it to apartheid and Nazi-era practices, and challenged Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath to issue a written order if he has the “courage.”

“Seeing this order of the Uttar Pradesh government, it seems as if the spirit of Hitler has entered them. Will you give so much importance to a trip that you will ruin the livelihood of others? Will you work for only one community? Where is the Constitution? I challenge Yogi Adityanath to issue a written order if he has the courage. Clear discrimination is happening against Muslims,” Owaisi added.

The Kanwar Yatra, a sacred pilgrimage of devotees of Lord Shiva, is scheduled to begin on July 22. (ANI)

After the Uttar Pradesh Police ordered eateries, along the route of the Kanwar Yatra to display their owners’ name, AIMIM Chief Asaduddin Owaisi on Thursday slammed Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath and challenged him to issue a written order if he has the “courage.”.

Addressing a press conference, Owaisi said, “We condemn it because it is a violation of Article 17 of the Constitution, which talks about untouchability. So the Uttar Pradesh government is promoting untouchability. This kind of order that people should express their religion is a violation of Article 21 (Right to life) and also Article 19 (Right to livelihood). Secondly, ever since the Uttar Pradesh government has given the order, Muslim employees have been removed from all the Dhaba (shops) in Muzaffarnagar. There are many big and famous restaurants on that highway, why are you not saying anything about them?”

“Seeing this order of the Uttar Pradesh government, it seems as if the spirit of Hitler has entered them. Will you give so much importance to a trip that you will ruin the livelihood of others. “Muzaffarnagar UP police has given instructions that on the route of a particular religious procession in near future all the shops restaurants n even vehicles should show the name of the owner prominently and clearly. Why? In Nazi Germany, they used to make only a mark on particular shops and houses,” Javed Akhtar posted on X.

The UP Police said on Thursday that the police have urged all the eateries to “voluntarily display” the names of their owners and employees, adding that the intention of this order is not to create any kind of “religious discrimination” but only to facilitate the devotees.

“During the Shravan Kanwar Yatra, a large number of Kanwariyas from neighbouring states, via Western Uttar Pradesh, collect water from Haridwar and pass through Muzaffarnagar district. During the holy month of Shravan, many people, especially Kanwariyas, abstain from certain food items in their diet,” the Muzaffarnagar police stated.

“In the past, such instances have come to light where some shopkeepers selling all types of food items on Kanwar Marg named their shops in such a way that it created confusion among the Kanwariyas and created a law and order situation. To prevent such a recurrence and in view of the faith of the devotees, hotels, dhabas and shopkeepers selling food items on Kanwar Marg have been requested to voluntarily display the names of their owners and employees. The intention of this order is not to create any kind of religious discrimination but only to facilitate the devotees passing through Muzaffarnagar district, counter allegations and save the law and order situation. This system has been prevalent in the past, too,” it added. (ANI)

Two people died and 20 others were injured after the Chandigarh-Dibrugarh express derailed near Gonda station in between Motiganj and Jhilahi railway station under the jurisdiction of North Eastern Railway at about 2:37 hrs.

As many as 4-5 coaches of the train from the front got derailed. After getting the information, the medical team, along with senior officials from the Lucknow division of NER immediately rushed to the site.

The helpline number established in Lucknow is – 8957409292 and the helpline number in Gonda is – 8957400965. It happened around 2.37 pm. As per initial info, 4-5 coaches derailed. Our priority is that the relief and rescue work be done as quickly as possible.” Uttar Pradesh’s Relief Commissioner informed on X that one NDRF team each was sent from Lucknow and Balrampur to Gonda. “Five ambulances were deployed for rescue operations in the train accident and orders have been given to send more ambulances to the spot. First aid is being given to the injured. The injured are being shifted to the hospital. SDRF teams sent from three districts to expedite relief operations,” it said on X. (ANI)

In a major boost to its defence capabilities, India on Thursday approved a major plan to build military airfields in Lakshadweep island territories to keep an eye on growing Chinese activities in the region and expand its reach.

The Central government, at a high-level meeting held on Thursday, cleared the proposals, defence sources told ANI.

The proposal from the three services led by the Department of Military Affairs is to build a new airbase in Minicoy islands and extend the existing air field on Agatti island in the Arabian Sea on western side of India, they said.

The dual-purpose airfields, which would also be used by commercial airlines, would be capable of deploying and operating all types of fighter and transport aircraft, along with long-range drones and would give an edge to the Indian forces in the region.

The move has come at a time when the Chinese Navy has been expanding its presence in the Indian Ocean Region and collaborating closely with the Pakistan Navy in the region.

The Indian Air Force would be the lead in the project that would see a military conclave coming up there, which would be used by all three defence forces and the Indian Coast Guard.

The Indian Coast Guard was the first force under the Defence Ministry to suggest the development of an airstrip in the Minicoy Islands. As per the present proposal, the Indian Air Force would be in the lead to run the operations from Minicoy.

The airport at Minicoy would also give the defence forces the capability to extend their area of surveillance in the Arabian Sea. The airport at Minicoy would also provide a boost to tourism in the region, as has been planned by the government.

The Minicoy islands are just around 50 miles from the Maldives. (ANI)

The Supreme Court on Thursday directed the National Testing Agency (NTA) to publish on its website the marks obtained by all the students who appeared in Eligibility-cum-Entrance Test undergraduate exam (NEET-UG) 2024 and said the identity of students should be masked.

A bench of Chief Justice of India DY Chandrachud and Justices JB Pardiwala and Manoj Misra ordered that result should be published separately, city and centre-wise by Saturday 12 noon.

The apex court passed the direction to the NTA to publish the results, after the petitioners-students urged it to direct the testing agency to publish the result of all students to bring in some transparency.

The top court in its order stated, “The petitioners have submitted that it would be appropriate if the results of the NEET-UG 24 exam is published on the website so as to bring about some transparency on the centre-wise marks obtained by candidates. We direct the NTA to publish the marks obtained by students in the NEET-UG 2024 exam while at the same time ensuring that the identity of the students is masked. The results should be declared in relation to each centre and city separately.”

The bench said it will continue the hearing of pleas alleging paper leak and malpractice in NEET-UG 2024 exams, on July 22.

The top court held a day-long hearing in the NEET-UG matter.

The apex court was hearing a batch of pleas seeking direction to recall NEET-UG 2024 results and to conduct the examination afresh, alleging paper leakage and malpractices in the test held.

Aspirants had approached the top court and raised the issue of leakage of question paper, awarding compensatory marks and anomaly in question of NEET-UG.

NEET-UG examination, conducted by NTA, is the pathway for admissions into MBBS, BDS and AYUSH and other related courses in government and private institutions across the country.

The NEET-UG, 2024 was held across 4,750 centres on May 5 and around 24 lakh candidates appeared in it. During the hearing, apex court posed several questions to NTA regarding alleged paper leak and malpractices in NEET exam.

It asked NTA about how many students out of 23.33 lakhs who appeared for the exam changed their centre.

NTA said that in the name of corrections, students change centres and 15,000 students utilised the window for corrections.

NTA said that students can change only the city and no candidate can choose the centre. Centre is allotted by the system and centre’s allotment is only two days before the exam, so nobody knows which centre is going to be allotted, it added.

Petitioners-candidates counsel argued that question papers were dispatched to the centres on April 24 through a private courier company and reached the SBI and Canara banks on May 3.

To this, CJI said that the papers were dispatched on April 24 and received on May 3, which makes the time gap about nine days.

The top court was informed that question papers were sent to SBI and Canara bank branches in 571 cities and there were 4,750 centres.

Solicitor General Tushar Mehta said that CBI has investigated the entire chain of event from the printers to the centres.

“CBI has investigated the entire chain of event from the printers to the centres… how there was sealing, GPS tracking…, there are digital lockers… There is a 7-layer safety system. There are two printing presses because there are two papers,” he said.

Petitioners’ counsel told the bench that a trunk was found to be travelling on an open e-rickshaw to Oasis school and Hazaribagh school principal received this trunk and now arrested by CBI. The sealed trunk was delivered to him and not to any bank.

He further said, “There is a systemic failure by NTA in conducting the exam by NTA, it’s failure is multi-dimensional. The transportation of question papers got compromised when for six days the papers were in the hands of a private courier company and the papers were being transported in an e-rickshaw in Hazaribagh. Instead of taking it to the bank, the driver took it to the Oasis school.”

The dissemination of the leaked papers was doing rounds from May 3 itself, he said, adding that evidence of Telegram videos show that the solved papers were being circulated on May 4.

“Given the nature of social media, it is impossible to accurately determine the exact spread of the leaked papers and the beneficiaries,” argued the counsel.

To this, CJI Chandrachud asked, why would people making money out of leaked papers circulate them mass-scale?

“The idea of somebody doing this is not to make a national charade of NEET exam. People were doing it for money. So, it was not to bring disrepute to the exam and somebody was doing it to make money, which is evident now. Mass leakage of paper also requires contacts at that level so that you connect to all such key contacts in different cities, etc. Anybody who is making money out of it won’t circulate it mass scale,” said the bench.

CJI asked NTA and Centre that, according to them “students got papers at 10.15 am. There are 180 questions. Is it possible that between 9.30 am and 10.15 am that there are problem solvers and they are given to students in 45 minutes?”

Solicitor General replied that there were seven paper solvers and they demarcated 25 questions each.

“Whole hypothesis that within 45 minutes there was a breach and entire paper was solved and given to students seems very farfetched,” said CJI.

Solicitor General said that there (accused) modus operandi was that “they give the papers to the ones who gave postdated cheques. They did not want mass leak at all. Otherwise, their efforts are wasted. this gang member in Hazaribagh sent the paper to another gang member in Patna through WhatsApp.”

In Godhra incident, the bench said that it cannot say it was a part of widespread malpractice, there is no evidence that the cheating took place.

“It appears that wrongdoing has only happened in Hazaribagh and Patna… then after this we are only left with statistics that 61 students got 720/720… Can we cancel the entire examination on that sole basis?” it asked petitioners’ counsel. (ANI)

The Delhi High Court on Thursday reserved order on Arvind Kejriwal’s plea seeking two additional legal meetings with his lawyers through video conferencing from jail. His plea was opposed by the counsel for jail authorities and the Enforcement Directorate (ED).

Justice Neena Bansal Krishna reserved order on the plea after hearing submissions of counsels for the parties. Senior advocate Ramesh Gupta appeared for Arvind Kejriwal.

Jail Authorities have already filed a reply to the plea. He submitted that the jail rule does not permit additional meetings. Changing the format of the meeting from physical to video conferencing does not make any difference.

Advocate Zoheb Hossain, who appeared for the Enforcement Directorate (ED), submitted that the application is not maintainable as it has become infructuous because the accused is no longer in the ED’s custody after getting interim bail from the Supreme Court.

However, Kejriwal is in judicial custody in a CBI case linked to Delhi Excise policy. ED’s counsel also submitted that all accused are given equal treatment in jail. Everyone has been granted only two legal meetings.

On the other hand, Senior advocate Ramesh Gupta opposed the submissions and contended that there is no harm in giving him two additional legal meetings. He also submitted that ED did not oppose the facility granted to the other accused.

Senior advocate Ramesh Gupta appeared for Arvind Kejriwal and submitted that the applicant is seeking additional legal meetings with his counsel. There is nothing wrong with it.

The Rouse Avenue Court on July 1 denied Kejriwal two additional meetings with his lawyers through video conferencing (VC) from Tihar Jail.

Special judge Kaveri Baweja dismissed the application moved on behalf of Arvind Kejriwal.

He had moved an application seeking directions to the Jail Authorities for granting two additional meetings with his lawyers through VC.

The special judge said, ” Learned counsel for the applicant has failed to convince the court as to how the applicant is entitled to two additional legal meetings through VC on the same grounds which have been discussed and dealt with in the earlier order. There appears to be no reason whatsoever to take a different view on the basis of the contents of the application under consideration.”

It is also said that it is not in dispute that a similar application filed by the applicant seeking the same relief of additional legal meetings with his lawyers was dismissed by this court vide a detailed order of April 10, 2024.

The Court observed, “The application under consideration discloses no new/fresh

ground to take a view different from the earlier order dated 10.04.2024. The order dated 22.02.2024 and relief granted to co-accused Sanjay Singh have already been discussed and differentiated in order dated 10.04.2024.”

“Thus, having considered the submissions made and the observations already made in the order of 10.04.2024, I see no reason whatsoever to allow the application under consideration. The application is accordingly dismissed,” the court ordered on July 1.

It was submitted that Kejriwal is facing about 30 litigations throughout the country and requires two additional meetings with his lawyers through VC to discuss the cases and claim his right to a fair trial.

The counsel for Kejriwal also submitted that, after filing this application, the applicant has been arrested in one more case by the CBI. Further, co-accused Sanjay Singh was allowed additional legal meetings by an order of February 22, 2024. (ANI)

The ongoing legal feud between Hollywood exes Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt has reached new heights as Jolie implores Pitt to drop his lawsuit against her, centred on the sale of her shares in the famed Chateau Miraval winery.

According to E! News, the dispute stems from Pitt’s allegation that Jolie sold her interests in the French estate without his consent, violating their purported verbal agreement.

In response, Jolie’s legal team contends that she offered the shares to Pitt first but was met with last-minute restrictive conditions, including a non-disclosure agreement (NDA) that she found unacceptable.

According to recent reports obtained by E! News, Jolie is requesting the court to compel Pitt to disclose any third-party communications related to a 2016 plane incident involving their eldest son, Maddox.

This move is part of her strategy to refute Pitt’s allegations that he was physically aggressive during the incident.
