Priyanka Gandhi Vadra expressed her grief on the assault of an Army Officer

Height Of Negligence, Mismanagement: Priyanka On Delhi Coaching Incident

After three students were drowned in basement of a coaching centre in Delhi’s Old Rajinder Nagar, Congress general secretary Priyanka Gandhi called the incident “the height of negligence and mismanagement.”

In a post on X, Priyanka Gandhi said on Sunday that the incident of the death of three students due to waterlogging in the basement of a coaching institute in Delhi is heartbreaking.

“I pray to God for the departed souls and the bereaved families. Recently, a student died due to electric shock in Patel Nagar. It is the height of negligence and mismanagement that the lives of children who come here from far-off places to fulfill their dreams are being snatched away from them,” she said.

Priyanka Gandhi urged to rectify all illegal and life-threatening construction housing students.

“This is criminal and irresponsible. Accountability for this should be fixed and most importantly, every construction and every activity that is illegal and life-threatening should be rectified in the areas where competitive students live,” the post mentioned.

Delhi police on Sunday arrested two persons, the owner and coordinator of the IAS coaching centre, where basement flooding due to rains claimed lives of three students in Delhi’s Old Rajinder Nagar.

According to the police, the victims have been identified as Shreya Yadav, a native of Ambedkar Nagar district of Uttar Pradesh, Tanya Soni from Telangana; and Nivin Dalwin, a resident of Kerala’s Ernakulam.

The Central Delhi incident comes days after a UPSC aspirant was electrocuted on a waterlogged street in the national capital. (ANI)

Rising Handloom, Khadi Sale Creating New Employment: Modi

Prime Minister Narendra Modi said on Sunday that the rising sale of handloom and khadi products is creating new employment opportunities in the country.

While addressing the 112th episode of Mann Ki Baat, PM Modi said, “Khadi Gramodyog’s business has crossed 1.5 lakh crore rupees for the first time. The sale of Khadi has increased 400 per cent. This rising sale of Khadi, handloom, is also creating a large number of new employment opportunities. Mostly, women are associated with this industry, so they are the ones who are benefiting the most.”

The Prime Minister also urged the people to buy more Khadi clothes.

Promoting the handloom industry as National Handloom Day (August 7) approaches, PM Modi said, “More than 250 women of Rohtak district of Haryana are associated with the handloom industry. Earlier, they used to run small shops and do minor work to make ends meet but everyone had a desire to move forward so they decided to join the Unnati Self Help Group and by joining this group, they got training in block printing and dyeing. These women are earning lakhs of rupees today; bed covers, saree and dupattas made by them have a huge demand in the market.”

He also listed handloom products from several states and said that the work of handloom artisans has become popular in every corner of the country.

“Just like the women from Rohtak, artisans across the country are engaged in popularising handloom, be it the Sambalpuri saree of Odisha, the Maheshwari saree of MP, Maharashtra’s Paithani or hand block prints of Vidarbha, be it Himachal’s Bhuttico shawls and woollen clothes or Jammu and Kashmir’s Kani shawls,” the Prime Minister said.

“On August 7, we will be celebrating National Handloom Day. These days, the way handloom products have made a place in everyone’s hearts is indeed very successful and fabulous. You can also upload your local products on social media with #MyProductMyPride. Your small effort will change the lives of many people,” he added.

The Prime Minister also spoke about Project PARI, which is promoting public art.

“PARI means Public Art of India. Project PARI is becoming a big medium to bring emerging artists on one platform to make public art popular. These paintings and artworks on the walls, on the roadsides and in the underpasses are made by the artists who are associated with PARI. While this increases the beauty of our public places, it also helps in making our culture more popular,” PM Modi said.

MCD IAS Rajendra Nagar Delhi

Students Protest Against MCD, IAS Coaching Institute After Basement Flooding Claims Three Lives

Irate students are protesting against the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) and the management of an IAS coaching institute in West Delhi’s Old Rajender Nagar, where three students lost their lives after the basement was flooded with water.

Three students died in the basement of the popular IAS coaching institute yesterday, police said.

Yuvraj, a UPSC aspirant, criticised both the MCD and the coaching institute for negligence, stating, “MCD is responsible… they did not ensure safety measures. Both MCD and RAU’s IAS are at fault, they should be held jointly liable. We have been protesting since last night but no higher authority has spoken to us yet. We expect that the death toll may be higher,” Yuvraj told ANI.

Another UPSC aspirant, Ankit Bhadana, expressed concern about trapped students, saying, “Approximately 20-25 students are trapped inside the old Old Rajender Nagar coaching institute where the incident took place and their whereabouts are still unknown… No official from RAU’s IAS has come forward to give any official statement yet. The government also has not yet spoken to any of the students,” Ankit Bhadana told ANI.

Addressing safety concerns, another UPSC aspirant stated, “Our demand is that action should be taken against those responsible for this negligence. All these operations in the basement are illegal and lack safety measures. Action should be taken.”

Another UPSC aspirant, Aman Shukla emphasized that the “illegal” operation of libraries in basements should be stopped.

“We demand that firstly, all these illegally operating libraries in basements be shut down. MCD should address the issue immediately. Last time when it rained, cars were floating. In one year, they haven’t done anything… no senior official has visited this place till now,” Shukla said.

Another student protesting against the MCD also highlighted the issue of basement safety, “80 per cent of libraries here are in basements. Water accumulates within 10 minutes of rainfall. MCD has not taken action on this.”

Responding to Minister Atishi’s order for a magisterial inquiry, another protester said, “We want someone from the government to take responsibility for the students who lost their lives. How are they improving anyone’s future by tweeting or writing from their AC rooms?”

Another student criticised the response to the incident, “MCD calls it a disaster but I say this is negligence. Knee-deep water gathers in half an hour of rain. My landlord has been asking the councillor for days to clean the drain… Our immediate demand is transparency in the number of injuries and deaths.”

Expressing frustration, a student remarked, “I think the main culprits here are the MCD and the institute’s director who neglected students’ interests.”

Meanwhile, the police have registered a criminal case and are investigating the incident.

“The unfortunate incident took place at one coaching centre at Old Rajendra Nagar, at the conclusion of search and rescue operations, 3 dead bodies were recovered. Their families have been informed. The case has been registered & the investigation is underway,” Delhi Police said in a post on X.

Earlier, Deputy Commissioner of Police Central, M Harshavardhan said, “We have registered a criminal case. Our forensic teams are here. The process of collecting forensic evidence is underway. We are committed to registering a strong case and finding out the truth. Two people have been detained so far.”

“The NDRF has recovered three bodies till now. These have been sent for further legal action. The water is being pumped out continuously. One final round of search operations is pending. The operation is moving towards a conclusion. Some trapped students have been rescued and three of them have been sent to the hospital. Other than the three dead bodies, 13 to 14 others were rescued and they are fine,” DCP Harshavardhan said.

Delhi BJP Chief Virendra Sachdeva called for an inquiry into the Old Rajender Nagar incident.

“There should be an inquiry into the corruption of Arvind Kejriwal, Atishi and their government. Delhi Municipal Corporation’s corruption should be inquired. There should be an inquiry as to why the drainage was not cleaned. Will they order an inquiry into this?” Sachdeva said. (ANI)

Modi highlights Charaideo Moidam Of Assam In 112th Mann Ki Baat

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday highlighted Charaideo Moidam, a unique 700-year old mound-burial system of the Ahom dynasty of Assam, during the 112th episode of his monthly radio broadcast, Mann Ki Baat.

Charaideo Moidam – The Mound-Burial System of the Ahom Dynasty has been announced for inclusion under the category of Cultural Property at the 46th World Heritage Committee meeting that is being held in New Delhi from July 21 to 31, 2024. This is the 43rd World Heritage site of India listed by UNESCO.

In his Mann Ki Baat address, PM Modi said, “Charaideo Moidam of Assam is being included in the UNESCO World Heritage Site. This will be the 43rd site in India but the first site in the north east. Charaideo means ‘a shining city on the hills’. This was the first capital of the Ahom Dynasty. People of the Ahom Dynasty traditionally kept the bodies of their ancestors and their valuables in Moidam.”

Moidam is a hillok-like structure which is covered with soil on top and has one or more rooms below. This is a symbol of respect for the late kings and dignitaries of the Ahom empire, the Prime Minister mentioned.

The Prime Minister said that this way of showing respect to one’s ancestors is very unique.

“Community worship was also performed at this place. Starting from the 13th century, this empire lasted till the beginning of the 19th century. It is a big acheivement for an empire to continue for such a long period. Perhaps the principles and beliefs of the Ahom empire were so strong that it kept this dynasty alive for so long,” he said.

Recalling the statue unveiling earlier this year at Charaideo Moidam, PM Modi said, “I had the privilege of unveiling the tallest structure on March 9 this year of the great Ahom warrior Lachit Borphukan, a symbol of courage and bravery in Assam. You too should definitely include this site in your travel plans in the future.”

The Prime Minister also lauded the participants of the International Mathematics Olympiad and also interacted with them.

“A few days ago, the Olympics have also taken place in the world of mathematics – the International Mathematics Olympiad. Youth from more than 100 countries participated in the International Mathematics Olympiad and in the overall tally, our team has been successful in reaching the top five.”

He also urged young math experts to take inspiration from them to enjoy mathematics.

swato MAliwal UPSC AAP

Swati Maliwal Call’s UPSC Aspirants’ Death, Murder

The AAP MP stated that a FIR should be filed against government officials, as no minister from the Delhi government, the mayor of the Municipal Corporation of Delhi, or any other officer had responded even hours after the incident.

Speaking about the Old Rajinder Nagar Coaching Centre incident, Swati Maliwal said, “The students are very sad and angry. It has been more than 12 hours, and till now neither any minister of the Delhi government nor the mayor of MCD nor any officer has come. I believe that these deaths are not a disaster. This is murder. An FIR should be registered against all these big government officials.”

“These students come from different parts of the country with big dreams and aspirations to prepare for the UPSC. Their families toil to send them through difficulties and then these kinds of incidents take place where they die in such unfortunate circumstances,” she said.

The AAP MP further said, “It is not yet known whether 3 have died or more have died. Compensation of Rs 1 crore should be given to all the students who have died. The minister and mayor should come here immediately and apologise to them. Delhi will not run like this. I will raise this issue in Parliament.”

“I will keep all the demands of students in Parliament. The students are saying that 12 days ago they informed the counsellor that the drain system here is bad, so the counsellor and all the people above him should answer,” added Maliwal.

AAP MLA Durgesh Pathak also spoke on the incident and said, “The water has receded now, but enough is enough. This is a completely criminal activity, and strict action should be taken against the officials who are responsible. Desilting (of the drain) was done but still, there should be an inquiry and if someone is responsible, strict action should be taken.”

“Delhi’s drainage system has collapsed and the reason for this is that the BJP was in power for 15 years. We have been here for the last 1 year and are working on the drains, but I do not want to get into any blame game, I want it to be investigated and strict action should be taken against whoever is responsible,” he said.

Delhi BJP Chief Virendra Sachdeva called for an inquiry into the Old Rajender Nagar incident.

“There should be an inquiry into the corruption of Arvind Kejriwal, Atishi and their government. The Delhi Municipal Corporation’s corruption should be investigated. There should be an inquiry as to why the drainage was not cleaned. Will they order an inquiry into this?” Sachdeva said.

Meanwhile, Delhi police on Sunday arrested two persons, the owner and coordinator of the IAS coaching centre, where three students lost their lives after the basement of the institute was filled with water.

“The owner and coordinator of the coaching centre are arrested,” said Delhi Police.

Three UPSC aspirants died in the basement of a popular IAS coaching institute in Delhi’s Old Rajender Nagar yesterday after the basement was flooded with water.

Earlier today, the police identified the victims of the coaching centre incident as Shreya Yadav, a native of Ambedkar Nagar district of Uttar Pradesh, Tanya Soni from Telangana; and Nivin Dalwin, a resident of Kerala’s Ernakulam, DCP Central M Harshavardhan told ANI.

Notably, the Old Rajender Nagar incident comes days after a UPSC aspirant was electrocuted on a waterlogged Delhi street. (ANI)

Indians Are Going Crazy Over Kamala Harris

Why Indians Are Going Crazy Over Kamala Harris

The day after US President Joe Biden withdrew from the race to contest for a second term and endorsed his Vice-President Kamala Harris as the Democratic Party’s candidate in the coming elections in November, in Thulasendrapuram, a tiny village In Tamil Nadu around 300 km away from Chennai, community prayers began, with the head priest at the village temple paying homage to Dharmasastha, also known as LoTrd Ayyappan, the Hindu deity of truth and righteousness. The prayers, expected to to continue till election day, November 5, are being organised to wish Harris success in the elections.

Thulasendrapuram, which even many Indians will likely have difficulty in pronouncing correctly, leave alone finding on a map, is roughly 14,000 km from Washington D.C. Yet, it is the village from where Harris’ ancestors–at least one half of them–originate. Harris, 59, is half Indian. Her late mother Shyamala, a biologist, migrated to the US in her teens and her family originally is from that tiny village (population: around 350).

Harris’ other half is Jamaican. Her father, Donald, an economist, migrated to the US in 1961. Although Harris was raised by her mother after her parents divorced, she identifies more with the African-American community than with Indians.

Harris has occasionally visited India with her mother but her links to Thulasendrapuram are remote. That hasn’t stopped villagers there from swelling with pride. Who becomes the President of the US is certainly not going to affect their fortunes but the village is already festooned with huge posters and banners of Harris’s image and congratulatory messages in Tamil.

The spirit of celebration has spread across India, especially in the media as well as among citizens who see the possibility of an Indian origin person in the White House as a win. The phenomenon is not an isolated one. Every time a person of Indian origin–no matter how removed in reality he or she is from the country or how inconsequential their links with India might be–Indians appear to get excited and proud.

When Rishi Sunak became Prime Minister of the United Kingdom in 2022, there was similar jubilation. In Sunak’s case, it was heightened by the fact that he is married to the daughter of one of India’s leading infotech tycoons, N.R. Narayana Murthy, the billionaire founder of Infosys. Sunak demitted office this year after his Conservative Party lost in the elections but media interest in him and his popularity among Indians continues.

Back in 2015, when Bobby Jindal, a son of Indian immigrants from Punjab, and former Governor of Louisiana, became a candidate for the presidency of the US, there was similar hype around him in Indian media, although Jindal, a Republican known for his conservatism, never really highlighted his origins nor any affinity for the country. More recently, when Nikki Haley (birth name: Nimarata), a daughter of Sikh immigrants, made an eventually unsuccessful bid for becoming the Republican candidate for the upcoming elections, interest in her campaign spiked in India.

Even if political leaders of Indian origins have little to do with their country of origin or ethnicity, Indians tend to get excited, sometimes irrationally. Such as in the case of Vivek Ramaswamy, a rich young technocrat and Republican who, like Haley, ran for candidacy of his party before Donald Trump was chosen as its candidate. Although the son of Indian immigrants, Ramswamy is a hardliner when it comes to immigration and is a vocal proponent of mass deportation and tighter rules for anyone, including Indians, who want to migrate to the US. Yet, when it was speculated that he could have a chance at winning the candidacy, the interest in his campaign was disproportionately high in India.

Why is it that Indians get so upbeat when anyone with ethnic roots to their country is seen to be successful in the politics of another country, particularly in the West?

Cultural Pride and Visibility

The excitement is part of a broader pattern in India, where achievements of people of Indian origin in other countries are often celebrated as a point of national and cultural pride. There are several reasons why they feel excited and proud when global leaders of Indian origin rise to prominent positions, even if those leaders don’t actively emphasise their Indian heritage.

For one, it’s a source of national and cultural pride to see someone with shared roots achieving success on a global stage. It is to many a validation of Indian potential and capabilities. It also provides a sense of representation and visibility for Indians in global affairs, which can be inspiring, especially for younger generations.

For many decades, India’s place on the global scene was not prominent. There were few Indian success stories, particularly in global politics. That has changed. India’s importance in geopolitics has grown; there is a high visibility that Prime Minister Narendra Modi enjoys in the world; and India is strategically more important in geopolitics, particularly for the US-led Western bloc.

In that context, success stories of Indian-origin political leaders in the West, who are considered as part of the Indian diaspora, can further burnish the country’s image. Such stories can also serve as motivation for Indians, showing that people with similar backgrounds can reach the highest levels of leadership in developed nations. Many Indians have family members or friends who have emigrated, so there’s often a sense of connection to the diaspora’s achievements. In the US, with a population of more than 4.9 million, Indian Americans make up approximately 1.35% of the country’s population and the biggest South Asian community.

Busting Stereotypes and Perceptions

Some Indians may also feel that having leaders of Indian origin in powerful positions could potentially benefit India indirectly through more favorable policies or increased cultural understanding, although there has been little evidence of such correlation between leaders and policies.

Yet, these success stories can help challenge the stereotypes about Indians and South Asians. An Indian origin candidate in the US Presidential elections is likely to influence the perception of Indians in general and change existing narratives about the country and its citizens.

Moreover, even if people of second and third-generation Indian origin do not actively promote their Indian heritage, many still relate to the challenges that their parents or even grandparents might have faced as immigrants. Kamala Harris rarely invokes her Indian heritage but her mother’s struggles and achievements in an alien land where she came as a teenager in the 1950s does influence her enough to talk about what she learnt while growing up.

Why Indians Do Well in the West

Not everyone is over the top about the success of people such as Harris or Sunak. Some Indians are critical of this fandom. They argue that it reflects a colonised mentality, which tends to internalise ethnic, linguistic, or a cultural inferiority complex. India has suffered colonialism under the British for more than 200 years and that has had the effect on many into believing that the language and culture of the West are superior to one’s own. So if someone of Indian origin is seen to succeed in Western society, it is celebrated as a win even if such leaders themselves distance themselves from their own Indian heritage–for example, even though Nimarata became Nikki, or Piyush is known as Bobby.

Yet, there are reasons why Indians, rather than other South Asians seem to be more successful in Western societies. For one, India has the world’s largest population and, therefore, sizably more immigrants who settle abroad, notably to the West. Second, India’s history as a British colony has left a linguistic legacy: widespread usage of English, which is an advantage in the English-speaking world.

Unlike China, India’s long-standing system of democracy makes it easier for Indian immigrants to adapt to and participate in political systems in other democracies such as the US. There is also a strong stress on higher education in many Indian families, often in fields valued in global leadership roles, such as law, business, and technology.

Rise of Indian Global CEOs

The rise of Indians has been a bigger phenomenon in the global business scene than it has in western politics. According to one estimate, more than 35 global billion-dollar corporations have Indian origin CEOs. The trend has been a notable phenomenon. Consider, for instance, just a few of them: at Microsoft, Satya Nadella is the CEO; at Google/Alphabet, it is Sundar Pichai; at Adobe, it is Shantanu Narayen; at IBM, it is Arvind Krishna; at Chanel, it is Leena Nair; and at Starbucks, it is Laxman Narasimhan. The list, which is longer, is impressive.

It highlights the stress on education. Many Indian families prioritise higher education, often in fields like engineering, computer science, and business. It also demonstrates that many Indian professionals are able to adapt to different work cultures and have a strong work ethic, and showcases the leadership skills that Indians are able to inculcate.

The growing list of Indian origin executives is a matter of pride for many Indians. However, it is also a fact that many of these executives made it big because they chose to leave India. India has very few global corporations that dominate the world’s markets on the scale and extent to which the companies headed by some of these Indian CEOs do. An Indian Google, or an Indian Microsoft simply doesn’t exist. India’s infotech companies, including the one that Sunak’s father-in-law started, is, basically, an outfit that offers cheap offshore services and not high value-added infotech products.

This has given rise to the perception that talented Indians do really well when they choose to leave their country and move to the West. That probably shouldn’t fire up the pride among the millions of those who live in India as much as it does.

Back in Thulasendrapuram, though, the festivities and prayers are believed to be continuing. Yet, even as many villagers are feeling proud about their connection to such a prominent global figure, it is worth noting that Harris has never visited their village and likely never will.

Nita, PT Usha Inaugurate India House At Paris Olympics

International Olympic Committee (IOC) member and chairperson of the Reliance Foundation, Nita Ambani, and Indian Olympic Association president PT Usha, along with other dignitaries, inaugurated the ‘India House’ at the Paris Olympics on Saturday.

India House falls under the ambitions of the Reliance Foundation and the Indian Olympic Association’s (IOA) long-term partnership, which aims to elevate the performances of Indian athletes, support the national sports federations, and build the credentials of India as a global sporting nation, with an aspiration to host the Olympic Games in the future.

Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) secretary Jay Shah, Olympic gold medalist Abhinav Bindra, and Ambassador of India to France Jawed Ashraf were also present during the opening ceremony of the India House.

Speaking during the inauguration ceremony, Nita Ambani welcomed the world to the ‘India House’ to experience the beauty, diversity and rich heritage of India.

“Today, we salute all the athletes from around the world competing in Paris and send them our compliments and best wishes for the game. At India House, we welcome the world to experience the beauty, diversity and rich heritage of India in the heart of Paris. We will also showcase our art and culture, song and dance, technology and tradition and Indian food and Bollywood music…,” Nita Ambani said.

She added that the day is not far when India will host the Olympic Games.

“The day is not far when India will host the Olympic Games. May this be our collective resolve at the opening of the India House. Today, we gather here at the Paris Olympic Games 2024, to open the doors to a dream. A dream that belongs to 1.4 billion Indians. A dream to bring India to the Olympics, and our shared dream to bring the Olympics to India. A nation, in its journey through time reaches a tipping point…,” she added.

Ambassador of India to France Jawed Ashraf thanked Nita Ambani and Reliance Foundation for putting up India House during the Paris Olympics.

“We are witnessing the grand opening of the India House, the first ever in the history of the Olympics. I want to thank Nita Ambani and Reliance Foundation for putting this up,” Jawed Ashraf said.

He also thanked Prime Minister Narendra Modi for making sport an instrument of youth empowerment and development.

“The Olympics is not only the biggest sporting event in the world but also the biggest gathering of humanity in a shared endeavour…In the 21st century, the Olympics must also seek new destinations, and there is no better destination for the Olympics than India…A country living in peace and harmony amidst the most unparalleled diversity of religions, languages, cultures and traditions…A country that is soon to be the third-largest economy. Under the leadership of PM Modi, sports is becoming an instrument of youth empowerment and development of shattering the glass ceiling for women, of making a more inclusive society and of transforming India…,” he added.

India took a bold step forward in its global sporting ambitions with the first-ever India House at the Paris Olympics.

This landmark initiative aimed to propel India towards becoming a dominant force in global sports, fostering greater success at the Olympics, and charting a course towards hosting the Games in the future.

A cornerstone feature of the Olympic Games, Olympic Hospitality Houses serve as a platform for participating countries to showcase their culture, hospitality, and national pride to athletes, media, visitors, and supporters. These houses serve as a space for fans to celebrate and support their athletes/ teams during competitions, and act as a “home away from home” for athletes and their families during the Games.

The Olympic House also becomes a place for fans of the country’s team to gather for event “watch-parties” and celebrations during competitive events, and in some cases, athletes who medal make an appearance during the day or evening.

India House at the Paris Games will serve as a showcase of India to the world, to fans from across the world, to key stakeholders from the global sports world, Indian travellers, media and athletes. It will also be the first time that Indian athletes will have a home at the Olympics, that will look to celebrate India’s sporting achievements and sportspersons. (ANI)

Border Security Force (BSF) personnel Odisha

Centre Relocates 2,000 BSF Personnel From Odisha To Enhance Security In J-K

In a swift response to recent terror attacks, the government has ordered the relocation of over 2,000 Border Security Force (BSF) personnel from Odisha to the volatile Jammu and Kashmir region along the India-Pakistan border, sources said on Saturday.

This strategic move aims to bolster security and counter the escalating threats in the Union Territory.

Amid rising concerns over security breaches, the government has taken decisive action by directing the immediate movement of two BSF battalions, totalling more than 2,000 troops, from Odisha to Jammu, said the sources, adding the order was received by the force earlier this week from the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA).

This decision follows a series of recent terror attacks in the Jammu region that have heightened security concerns.

The two battalions extracted from Odisha were previously engaged in anti-Naxal operations, and now they will fortify the defenses in the terror-stricken Jammu region.

Official sources confirmed ANI seeking anonymity that the redeployment aims to enhance the security apparatus and curb the menace of terrorism threatening the Jammu and Kashmir.

“By reallocating these forces, the government intends to provide a robust security presence and mitigate the risks posed by the persistent terror activities. The swift execution of this order underscores the urgency and importance of safeguarding the region and ensuring the safety of its inhabitants. Such movements of troops are also part of force’s strategic affairs that are taken time to time as per the need,” said the sources.

The Centre’s move comes days after Director General of the BSF Nitin Agrawal on July 21 reviewed the operational readiness of the troops deployed at the Jammu International Border.

The BSF chief, who was on two-day visit to the border guarding force’s Jammu frontier from July 20 to assess the security situation along the Jammu International Border, also engaged in detailed discussions with unit commandants, focusing on various operational aspects and the preparedness of the forces, said the force in a statement.

This review was part of an ongoing effort to ensure the security and efficiency of the BSF in maintaining border integrity and responding to any potential threats.

BSF chief’s visit was scheduled a day after the Union Home Minister Amit Shah reviewed the functioning of Multi Agency Centre (MAC) of the Intelligence Bureau, directing agencies to increase engagement in the MAC and make a cohesive platform as well as to adopt a whole-of-the government approach towards national security.

Shah chaired the high-level meeting on July 20 evening in the national capital with heads of various security and law enforcement agencies including the BSF.

While reviewing the overall internal security situation in the country and the fight against terrorism; the Home Minister also impressed upon all the participants to increase engagement in the MAC and make it into a cohesive platform that brings together all the law enforcement agencies, anti-drug agencies, cyber security and intelligence agencies, for decisive and prompt action.

The Home Minister stresses greater synergy between all the agencies to dismantle the terror networks and their supporting eco-system, to address the evolving security threat scenario of the country.

The meeting was held in the wake of recent terrorist attacks in Jammu and Kashmir within the span of a month which led to the deaths of several Indian Army personnel as well as innocent people raising question on security of the nation. (ANI)
