PM Narendra Modi reached Kyiv

Modi Arrives At Kyiv, Gets Warm Welcome

PM Narendra Modi reached Kyiv on Friday morning in what is the first visit by an indian Prime Minister to Ukraine. The visit assumes deeper significance as it comes at a time when the region finds itself in the middle of a conflict.

On his arrival at the Hyatt Hotel in Kyiv, PM Modi received a rousing welcome from the Indian community, with many students awaiting his arrival and hoping for a glimpse of the Prime Minister.

In a post on X, Modi tweeted, “Reached Kyiv earlier this morning. The Indian community accorded a very warm welcome.”

Randhir Jaiswal, the spokesperson of the Ministry of External Affairs, stated on X, “PM Narendra Modi arrived in Kyiv this morning on a landmark official visit.”

This is the first-ever visit by an Indian Prime Minister to Ukraine since the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries.

An MBBS student studying in Kyiv who was among the waiting Indian contingent, said, “I was here when the war started. Returning after the war ended, I was one of the only Indian students left here. I feel I got a lot of opportunities here, especially during the time of my surgery cycle and preparations. I would spend days inside the hospital, assisting my teachers with 5-6 surgeries daily. It would mostly be people from Odesa coming here to the speciality department in Kyiv, mostly soldiers who were wounded. Some would have to get laparotomy done, some had severe infections.”

On being asked about the challenges he faced, he said, “Definitely, we faced plenty of challenges during treatment. In 2022, there used to be daily air alerts as well as attacks in the area. I would mostly stay at the hospitals since it was safe in the bunkers which were made underground for doctors to stay in. There would also be food shortages, but that wasn’t as challenging as the attacks themselves.”

Another member of the Indian diaspora said, “The blasts weren’t just scary because of the attacks themselves – they would shake you up from inside. Things you can’t even imagine were happening live – 4-5 attacks every single day. Drones and ballistic missiles coming right at you and exploding in front of your very eyes. We wouldn’t be able to sleep at night amid worries of what might happen.”

Abhinav Parwar, a student doctor studying in Kyiv, said, “It’s been roughly six years since I’ve been in Ukraine and completed my studies. Along with my practice here, we get to see that most students here are dentists, as a result, there’s a major shortage of surgeons and overall medical students who are not studying dentistry, and more doctors are definitely needed here.”

On being asked about the challenges being faced by the community in Kyiv, he said, “It’s important to note that the people here have been facing these shortages here for a long time. The fact that the war started here in 2014, now the second phase has started again in 2024. What we must note is that the lives of the people here are extremely challenging, and they still try to do their best to live their lives normally despite all the problems in their daily lives. Even though the government wants to support its people, their lives remain tough.”

“As students here, we do our best by helping them with medicine as well as boosting their economy. We also are trying our best to help the locals here as much as we can as doctors, the least we can do is by providing them knowledge so they can treat themselves without anyone’s help in case they’re on their own.” (ANI)

Uddhav Thackeray Maharashtra bandh

Uddhav Announces Maharashtra Bandh Against Badlapur Incident

Shiv Sena (UBT) chief Uddhav Thackeray has called for a Maharashtra bandh on Saturday to stage a protest against the Badlapur incident. He further stated that the bandh is against the atrocities committed against women and there is no political motive behind it.

“Many people have started to feel that girls are not safe in schools. All citizens will take part in tomorrow’s bandh, not just Mahavikas Aghadi. The bandh will continue till 2 pm. Bus and train services should also be shut during tomorrow’s bandh. You may belong to any religion or caste, but make this bandh successful for the protection of your daughters and sisters,” the former CM said.

Launching an attack against the Maharashtra government, he pointed out, “What is happening with the girls? All this is going on, what is the government doing? We are not against the Ladli Behan Yojana. We want the government to first focus on the safety of women. After this, talk about all these schemes. We will not take the law into our hands. Shopkeepers should also think that they also have daughters, so they should also join our bandh, tomorrow the bandh will be only till 2 o’clock. Some people have gone to court regarding the bandh, it seems they are not concerned about their sisters and family.”

“If the police had properly taken action, we would not have to do this. Yesterday the court also reprimanded. People have the right to question the government. When the way is closed for the people, the court is the only way left,” Uddhav added.

Earlier, in a post on X, Uddhav Thackeray wrote, “Maha Vikas Aghadi has announced Maharashtra Bandh on August 24 to protest against the Badlapur incident. This bandh is not political but to protest and curb the perversity.”

Meanwhile, the special investigation team (SIT) for Badlapur sexual assault against minors has registered an FIR against the school authorities, for not complying with the provisions of section 19 of the POCSO Act which mandates that every authority when they come to know about any such kind of sexual assault against minors are obligated to report this to police authorities for further action, said SIT. Mamata Banerjee on Women safety

Mamata Banerjee Writes Letter To PM Modi On Women Safety

Urging the central government to bring in central legalization and set up fast-track courts for “sensitive” issues, to ensure fast speedy trial, West Bengal Mamata Banerjee on Thursday wrote a letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi in the wake of the national outrage over the RG Kar medical hospital incident where a second year trainee doctor was raped and murdered.

As the nation fumes over the RG Kar medical hospital incident, igniting discussions and protests on crime against women in India, West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee in a letter to PM Modi wrote, “I wish to bring your kind attention to the regular and increasing occurrence of rape cases throughout the country and in many cases, rapes with murder are committed.”

Mamata, in the letter, mentioned that such “sensitive” issues need to be addressed comprehensively through stringent central legalization prescribing exemplary punishment against the persons involved in such dastardly crimes.

The Bengal Chief Minister suggested setting up of “fast track special courts” to deal with such cases, which need a speedy trial.

“To ensure justice, trial in such cases should preferably be completed within 15 days,” the letter further read.

The West bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee is facing a huge backlash from the opposition over the safety and security of women in her state after the horrific RG Kar medical hospital incident.

Earlier, BJP leader Anil K Antony on Friday demanded the resignation of West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee. He alleged that atrocities against women are high in West Bengal despite the state being ruled by a woman chief minister.

“West Bengal is a state with a woman Chief Minister but when it comes to atrocities against women, West Bengal has become the state with one of the highest number of cases. In the last few months, we have seen what happened in Sandeshkhali, and now in Kolkata. There are allegations as well as proof coming out that the police have been trying to tamper with evidence and protect people involved in this kind of heinous incident,” Anil K Antony told ANI.

“Law and order in the state is non-existent. Both the police department and the health ministry are under the Chief Minister and both ministries are not functioning. BJP demands that the CM should resign for the safety and well-being of the citizens of India,” he added.

On August 9, a postgraduate trainee doctor was raped and murdered on duty at RG Kar Medical College in Kolkata, which has led to nationwide strikes and protests by the medical fraternity. (ANI)
