BJP Did Not Achieve 400 Paar Due To Muslims: AIMIM Imtiaz Jaleel

AIMIM Maharashtra Chief Imtiaz Jaleel on Monday that the BJP did not achieve ‘400 paar’ because of the Muslims who voted for the INDIA bloc, adding that he and his party are ready to support the opposition bloc INDIA to defeat the BJP.

Jaleel told ANI that the INDIA bloc is habouring a false notion that they will be able to achieve good seats in the Maharashtra Assembly Polls but they are unaware that it is not Lok Sabha elections as votes will be cast on local issues.

He said, “BJP did not achieve ‘400 paar’ because of the Muslims who voted to INDIA alliance by standing for two hours in a queue in that scorching heat, but what did they get in response? They were beaten in their own homes in Kolhapur. You haven’t given one single seat to Muslims out of 12 state council seats. When the Waqf Bill came into Lok Sabha, how the entire Shiv Sena (UBT) ran away.”

Imtiaz Jaleel also mentioned that he is ready to support the INDIA alliance.

“I am ready to come with you. I am also ready to fight with you with full strength to defeat the BJP. INDIA bloc feels that just like they got good votes in Lok Sabha, they will get good votes in Vidhan Sabha as well. This is wrong because assembly elections are fought entirely on local issues. If they clear up their misconception, then maybe they will call us,” he added.

“Today everyone has understood how important Muslim votes are and we can become kingmakers too,” he added.

A scuffle and verbal altercation also broke out at the press conference of AIMIM Maharashtra chief Imtiaz Jaleel. The altercation ensued when Faiyaz Ahmed Khan was replaced by Raiees Lashkaria as the Mumbai AIMIM chief and supporters of Faiyaz Ahmed Khan registered their protest.

Speaking on it, Jaleel said, “I am surprised that you (Faiyaz Ahmed) came to know that there is a B team. Just because we have removed you from the post, you started linking us to some other party. In politics, you have to make space for others. He has to contest elections and hence we said that let’s give the responsibility of Mumbai to some other person… Decisions on him will be taken by the party chief Asaduddin Owaisi, but one thing is there if discipline isn’t maintained, the party won’t move ahead.”

Meanwhile, Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Rajiv Kumar on Friday said that the high demand for security forces in Jammu and Kashmir is the primary reason for not holding elections in Maharashtra.

He further cited rainfall and the series of festivals that are scheduled in the state.

“There are other factors. Rainfall in Maharashtra and the spate of festivals in the state, including Ganesh Chaturthi, Pitrapaksh, Navratri and Diwali, affect the election schedule. All that put together, we thought this is what we can handle, two elections at a time. And it is within six months of the term of the assembly ending, he added.

The Lok Sabha polls 2024 have given a boost to the Maha Vikas Aghadi alliance, with the Shiv Sena (UBT) winning seven seats, the Congress 13, and the NCP-SP one, taking the total tally of the alliance 17. (ANI)

Modi To Visit Ukraine On Aug 23; MEA Reiterates India’s Full Support To Peace Efforts

Prime Minister Narendra Modi will be visiting Ukraine on August 23 on the invitation of Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, the Ministry of External Affairs said on Monday.

This will be the first by an Indian PM to the war-hit country since the two nations established diplomatic ties around 30 years ago.

Reiterating India’s stance on the Russia-Ukraine conflict that began on February 24, 2022, the MEA said that only dialogue and diplomacy can lead to a lasting resolution of the conflict.

“PM Narendra Modi will undertake an official visit to Ukraine later this week on Friday, August 23, on the invitation of Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy,” MEA Secretary (West) Tanmaya Lal said at the special briefing on Monday.

“This is also a landmark and a historic visit since this will be the first time an Indian PM will be visiting Ukraine in more than 30 years since we established our diplomatic relations. This visit will build upon the recent high-level interactions between the leaders,” he added.

The MEA emphasised that India has “substantive and independent ties” with Russia and Ukraine and these partnerships with the two nations “stand on their own.”

Notably, PM Modi also visited Russia last month, which was his first official trip to a nation after assuming office for the third term.

MEA Secretary said India is ready to provide all possible support and contribution for finding a peaceful solution to the conflict.

“India has maintained a very clear and consistent position that only diplomacy and dialogue can resolve this conflict, which can lead to enduring peace…lasting peace can only be achieved by options that are acceptable to both the parties. On our part, India continues to engage with all stakeholders. Prime Minister Modi has had conversations with leaders of both Russia and Ukraine…India is ready to provide all possible support and contribution to find peaceful solution to this complex issue,” MEA Secretary Tanmaya Lal said.

“India has substantive and independent ties with both Russia and Ukraine and these partnerships, they stand on their own. This is not a zero-sum game. The PM had also travelled to Russia. Many ideas were discussed. The PM has also met President Zelenskyy on a couple of occasions in the last one year or so and they will now be meeting again in Ukraine…these are independent ties. The ongoing conflict will form part of the discussions,” he added.

Being asked about India’s humanitarian support to war-hit Ukraine since the start of the conflict, the MEA informed that 16 packages and 135 tons of material have been delivered so far.

“16 packages have so far been delivered (to Ukraine) ranging from medicines to power generators and medical equipment. I think 135 tons of material has been supplied so far and further initiatives are being explored,” the MEA Secy further said.

The official website of Ukraine President also confirmed PM Modi’s visit on National Flag Day of Ukraine, August 23. Both sides will discuss bilateral and multilateral cooperation and multiple agreements will also be signed between India and Ukraine.

“On August 23, the National Flag Day of Ukraine, Prime Minister of India Narendra Modi will pay an official visit to Ukraine. This is the first visit of an Indian Prime Minister to Ukraine in the history of our bilateral relations,” the presidential office said in a statement.

“During the visit, in particular, the talks with the President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy will be held to discuss issues of bilateral and multilateral cooperation. It is also expected that a number of documents between Ukraine and India will be signed,” it added.

Earlier, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy expressed disappointment over Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to Russia on June 8 describing it as a “devastating blow to peace efforts.”

Zelenskyy took to social media platform X to post that PM Modi was meeting Putin on the same day 37 people, including three children, were killed in an alleged Russian strike at the largest children’s hospital in Ukraine’s capital city, Kyiv.

Prior to that, PM Modi and President Zelenskyy met on the sidelines of the G7 Summit in Apulia, Italy in June. (ANI)

“It also mentioned that in the interim period, the party will endeavour to redraw the Jammu and Kashmir Reorganisation Act, 2019 and the Transaction of Business of the Government of Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir Rules, 2019. The party has also said that in the first assembly session, they will bring a resolution against the Centre’s decision to strip the region of its statehood and special status,” the manifesto said.

The second guarantee includes several promises including- the release of political prisoners, return and rehabilitation of Kashmiri Pandits, simplified job verification process, ease of passport verification, and end to unjust terminations and unnecessary harassment to people on highways will be stopped.

The third guarantee will be a comprehensive job package for youth.

Speaking on it, Omar Abdullah said, “We all know the unemployment condition in J&K. After August 5, 2019, there was talk of reducing unemployment but it only increased. There was fraud in the recruitment process and the youths did not get the job…We are making comprehensive promises to the youths and going to address the unemployment issue.”

The party has promised to give free electricity upto 200 units. Omar said, “We will also address the issue of water and electricity and will give electricity free upto 200 units. Some will promise more but that’s not beneficial because they are not going to be in power in the future.”

He further added, “Regarding social welfare, we are making a special guarantee to the people. Under this, women belonging to the EWS (Economically Weaker Section) will be given Rs 5000 per month to support them. For the benefit of the common people, we will provide 12 gas cylinders after the elections to the EWS. The widow pensions will also be increased.”

The party has also promised to bring a comprehensive plan to solve the drug issue in the Union Territory.

“Regarding drugs, we have consistently stated that a comprehensive programme needs to be created to address this issue. In the war against drugs, we are making a guarantee to the people,” Omar said.

“Agriculture and horticulture have historically been our key industries, along with tourism. To strengthen these sectors, the National Conference is including a programme in its manifesto. People complain that apples are no longer sold outside Jammu and Kashmir because apples are being imported at lower duties. We will work to protect our farmers in this regard,” he added.

The Jammu-Kashmir National Conference has also mentioned establishing a medical trust that will help people fight against serious diseases like cancer.

“When people are diagnosed with a serious illness like cancer, it becomes difficult for them to get treatment. To address this, a medical trust will be established to provide insurance coverage for such serious illnesses, making treatment more accessible,” Omar said.

“In the education sector, if you look at Kashmir, education used to be free, but it has gradually been phased out. In its manifesto, the National Conference has promised to reinstate free education up to the university level,” he added.

The polling in the UT will be held in three phases on September 18, 25, and October 1, as per the Election Commission of India. The counting of the votes will take place on October 4.

These are the first assembly elections to be held in Kashmir after the abrogation of Article 370.

The PDP-BJP coalition government fell in June 2018 when the latter withdrew support to the then-Chief Minister, Mehbooba Mufti.

In December of last year, the Supreme Court directed the Centre to conclude the election process by September 30, 2024. (ANI)

TMC leader Kunal Ghosh CBI

TMC’s Ghosh Conveys The Message Of Junior Drs To The CBI

TMC leader Kunal Ghosh reached the CBI office in Kolkata on Monday and stated that he had conveyed the message of junior doctors to the CBI.

He said “Some junior doctors want to give some information to the CBI, but they do not have any access to give it, so they contacted me. If this information will be useful to them (CBI), then they (junior doctors) are ready to cooperate…”

Notably, he stated he had come to the CBI office for his work and conveyed the message of junior doctors to the CBI.

He said, “I have come here for my work. I have to give information under a notification before going out of Kolkata, I have come here with the list of that information”.

On August 9, a postgraduate trainee doctor was allegedly raped and murdered on duty at RG Kar Medical College in Kolkata, which has led to nationwide strikes and civil societies and doctors across States protested against the incident and demanded severe punishment to the accused persons and sought safety and security for themselves. The Kolkata Police arrested a civic volunteer the next day in this connection.

Calcutta High Court directed the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) to take over the investigation, after expressing a lack of satisfaction with the Kolkata Police.

The investigation into the case is progressing, with the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) employing advanced techniques such as 3D laser mapping of the emergency ward where the crime took place. Additionally, the CBI has conducted psychological evaluations of the primary suspect.

Sources confirm that a psychologist from the CBI team arrived in Kolkata on Saturday to support the ongoing investigation.

Earlier today speaking to ANI West Bengal Governor CV Ananda Bose tore into the Mamata Banerjee government in the state saying that the Government had failed the women of the state.

“Bengal is not a place safe for women. Bengal has failed its women. Not the society but the present government has failed its women folk. Bengal should be brought back to its pristine glory where women had a respectable place in society…Women now are scared of ‘Gundas’ this has been created by the government that is insensitive to this issue,” the Government”In Bengal, the government has ensured that woman has no protection, which is what is reflected after the gruesome tragedy that took place in RG Kar. This should not be repeated,” the Governor added. Governor Bose is expected to meet Home Minister Amit Shah to discuss the situation in the state.

Earlier today, the leader of the Opposition in the West Bengal Assembly and Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Suvendu Adhikari also hit out at the state government alleging that it was unable to assure security for women.

“It is a matter of shame that the state government issues a notification which shows that there is no safety for women at night. While bills are passed to reserve seats for women in Parliament and the Assembly, there is talk of women’s empowerment, there is talk of promoting women. At the same time, the state government says that it is not right for women to do duty at night. The biggest irony is that there is no safety for women at night in the state. Further, the government also says that women should not go out of the house even during the day.”

Counsel for the victim’s family, Bikash Ranjan Bhattacharya accused the state government of trying to influence the witnesses.

“The role of CM in the state of West Bengal is very condemnable. Wherever there is rape she wants to immediately get into contact with the victim’s family, pay them money and say everything is over. Unfortunately, she has fixed a rate card for the rape victims…She attempts to purchase the witnesses,” he said.

Meanwhile, the Supreme Court of India has also taken note of the case, with Chief Justice DY Chandrachud leading a bench that will hear the matter on August 20. (ANI)

Congress MP Rahul Gandhi Dalits OBCs and Adivasis.

Lateral Entry Is An Attack On Dalits, OBCs And Adivasis, Says Rahul

Leader of Opposition and Congress MP Rahul Gandhi launched a scathing attack against Prime Minister Narendra Modi-led centre over the lateral entry of individuals into top government positions saying that it is an attack on Dalits, OBCs and Adivasis.

Taking to social media platform X, Rahul Gandhi wrote, “Lateral entry is an attack on Dalits, OBCs and Adivasis. BJP’s distorted version of Ram Rajya seeks to destroy the Constitution and snatch reservations from Bahujans.”

Another Congress leader Pramod Tiwari condemned it and called it against the reservation policy of the country.

“This government is so against the reservation. What the UPA government recommended was not exactly this that you hire so many people through lateral entry. I want to strongly condemn it. This is against the administrative system of the country. This is also against the reservation policy of the country,” said Pramod Tiwari.

Meanwhile, Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav slammed the centre and called this move a “big conspiracy” against the country.

The SP chief alleged that the lateral entry was a plan to snatch away the reservation and rights from PDA (Pichhde, Dalit, and Alpsankhyak).

“The time has come to launch a nationwide movement against the conspiracy being hatched by the BJP to place its ideological allies in high government positions through the back door in UPSC. This method will close the doors for today’s officers as well as for the youth to reach higher positions in the present and future. Common people will be limited to the positions of clerks and peons. In fact, the whole plan is to snatch away reservations and rights from PDA,” the SP chief posted on X.

The UPSC recently announced a notification for recruiting Joint Secretaries, Directors, and Deputy Secretaries through lateral entry. This decision has ignited criticism from opposition parties, who claim it undermines the reservation rights of OBCs, SCs, and STs.

Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi also expressed concerns over the lateral entry of individuals into top government positions on Sunday, alleging that Prime Minister Narendra Modi is appointing public servants through the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) rather than following the traditional Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) route.

Congress leader in a post on ‘X’ said, “Narendra Modi is attacking the Constitution by recruiting public servants through ‘Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh’ instead of Union Public Service Commission.”

“Reservation of SC, ST and OBC categories is being openly snatched away by recruiting through lateral entry on important posts in various ministries of the central government,” Rahul Gandhi said on X. (ANI)

Communist Party of India (Marxist) leader Brinda Karat

Kolkara Rape Case: Credibility Of Mamata Govt Is Zero, Says CPM

Communist Party of India (Marxist) leader Brinda Karat on Monday said that the credibility of the Mamata Banerjee government is zero in the rape and murder case of a junior doctor at R G Kar Medical College in Kolkata.

“Mamata Banerjee wants to save herself and wants to hide the role of the accused in the case. If you hear the statements of TMC MPs, they are giving the wrong statements as if they are the doctors themselves and they are not talking anything really about the case. All of this proves that the credibility of the Mamata Banerjee government is zero in this case.” Brinda Karat said.

Speaking with ANI, Karat further commented on the summon of TMC MP Sukhendu Shekar Ray by Kolkata police.

“The Rajya Sabha MP (Sukhendu Shekar Ray) tried to play a sensitive role in this case, and immediately the police summoned him as well.”

Earlier on Sunday, TMC MP Sukhendu Shekar had Ray raised questions about Kolkata Police’s probe into the case.

In a post on X, Sukhendu Sekhar Ray wrote, “CBI must act fairly. Custodial interrogation of the ex-principal and Police Commissioner is a must to know who and why floated the suicide story. Why wall of the hall was demolished, who patronised Roy (Sanjay Roy) to be so powerful, Why sniffer dog used after 3 days? 100s of such questions. Make them speak.”

Leader of Opposition in West Bengal Assembly Suvendu Adhikari also criticised the state government for not ensuring the safety of women.

“It is a matter of shame that the state government issues a notification saying that there is no safety for women at night. While bills are passed to reserve seats for women in Parliament and the Assembly, there is talk of women’s empowerment, there is talk of promoting women. At the same time, the state government’s special Alapan Bandopadhyay says that it is not right for women to do duty at night. The biggest irony is that there is no safety for women at night in the state. Further, he will also say that women should not go out of the house even during the day.” Adhikari said.

Earlier on Monday, West Bengal governor CV Ananda Bose said that Bengal has failed its women.

“Bengal is not a place safe for women. Bengal has failed its women. Not the society but the present government has failed its women folk. Governor Bose on Monday met women leaders and doctors at Raj Bhavan on the occasion of Raksha Bandhan and assured them that he is standing with them in making West Bengal safe for women.

In his address, the Governor lashed out at the state government saying that democracy was degenerating in the state.

“In West Bengal, democracy is degenerating…This cannot go on. Today, we have to take a pledge to protect our daughters or sisters…This society should become a place where women feel happy and secure.
