राजस्थान के गांवों की बेटियाँ भी ओलिंपिक मैडल ला सकती है

‘Gritty Rural Girls Can Win Olympic Medals But Our Focus Is Only On Cricket’

Vikram Singh Rajvi, a football coach in Rajasthan, says we idolize only cricket stars and then shamelessly expect other athletes to win Olympic Medals. His views:

I must begin with the historic victory of Rajasthan girls at the Junior Girls Football National Championship recently. This win is a testament to the grit and determination of young athletes from rural India, as 12 of the team members come from a small village named Dheengsari in Bikaner.

However, while we celebrate this victory, the irony of our country’s larger sporting scenario strikes me. We are a nation of 1.4 billion people, yet we couldn’t secure a single gold medal at the Paris Olympics. How is it that a country with such a massive population, rich in diversity and talent, is not a global sporting powerhouse? Why are we still not a sporting nation in the truest sense?

The answer, perhaps, lies in our collective obsession with cricket. Cricket is a game played by just a dozen countries, yet it dominates our media, our investments, and our national psyche. Meanwhile, sports like football and hockey, which are played by over a hundred countries and have deep roots in our history, struggle for attention. It’s disheartening to see the disparity in the support these sports receive. Cricket stars are household names while our hockey and football players toil away in relative obscurity.

My father, who captained the Indian football team and saw firsthand the potential our country has in this sport, started the academy from his savings. He provided everything for the children, from shoes to bandages. He faced resistance and ridicule, but his determination never wavered. Today, that same grit is reflected in these girls who come from extremely humble backgrounds. Many of them are daughters of farmers, laborers, and shepherds. Despite the societal and economic challenges, they face, they have pushed forward with relentless determination.

The problem isn’t a lack of passion or talent. Rajasthan’s rural areas are brimming with potential, but there are several hurdles these kids have to overcome before they can shine. The biggest issue, even today, is financial. While these girls work hard on the field, their nutrition suffers. A sportsperson requires a specific diet to perform at their best, but many of these girls don’t have access to the right nutrition. The economic challenges their families face are severe, and without support, it’s difficult for them to meet the dietary needs of a growing athlete.

This is where the government and private sponsors need to step in. We desperately need more support to provide these athletes with the resources they need. Equipment, training facilities, and most importantly, proper nutrition—these are essential. If we can’t provide our young athletes with the basics, how can we expect them to compete on an international stage?

There is no shortage of talent or passion in this country, but until we invest in sports beyond cricket and build an infrastructure that supports all athletes, we will continue to struggle. We need to celebrate and invest in sports like football and hockey, played by so many worldwide. Only then can we hope to become a true sporting nation.

The narrator is the son of former Indian Football Team captain and Arjuna awardee Magan Singh Rajvi. He is also the designated coach of Rajasthan junior Girls Football Team.

The Election Commission of India (ECI)

ECI to Announce Schedule For Assembly Elections Today

The Election Commission of India (ECI) will announce the schedule for assembly elections on Friday at around 3 pm.

Elections are due in Haryana, and the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir. Elections are also due in Maharashtra later in the year. Sources say the poll body will announce the schedule for Haryana and J-K today.

The schedule will include dates of filing of nominations, polling and declaration of results. On August 14, The Election Commission held a meeting with Union Home Secretary Ajay Bhalla to review the security situation in Jammu and Kashmir.

In December last year, the Supreme Court directed the central government to conclude the election process in the Union territory by September 30, 2024.

Jammu and Kashmir will witness elections after a gap of ten years as the last assembly election was held in 2014. The PDP-BJP coalition government fell in June 2018 when the latter withdrew support to the then-Chief Minister, Mehbooba Mufti.

Recently, a poll body delegation led by Chief Election Commissioner Rajiv Kumar reviewed the poll preparations in J&K. During a press conference in Jammu during the visit, Kumar had emphasised that the commission is committed to holding elections there “at the earliest”.

The term of the current government in Haryana will end on November 3, 2024, and elections are scheduled on 90 legislative assembly constituencies in the state. After the 2019 Elections, the BJP with 40 seats in the 90-member assembly formed a coalition government with the JJP. The JJP had won 10 seats while the Congress had won 31 seats. The BJP-JJP alliance broke earlier this year. In 2024, Haryana is likely to see a four-way contest between the BJP, the Congress, the JJP and the AAP.

The election commission is likely to announce the schedule for the assembly elections to the 288-member Maharashtra legislative assembly later.  (ANI)

The Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) launched Earth Observation Satellite-8

ISRO Launches Earth Observation Satellite-8 From Sriharikota

The Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) launched Earth Observation Satellite-8 (EOS-8) from the Satish Dhawan Space Centre in Sriharikota, Andhra Pradesh on Friday.

In its message on x, ISRO said, “The third developmental flight of SSLV was successful. The SSLV-D3 placed EOS-08 precisely into the orbit. This marks the successful completion of ISRO/DOS’s SSLV Development Project. With technology transfer, the Indian industry and NSIL India will now produce SSLV for commercial missions.”

As per ISRO, the six-and-a-half-hour countdown leading to the launch commenced at 2.47 am. This is the third and final developmental flight of the SSLV-D3/EOS-08 mission. The spacecraft is designed for a mission duration of one year.

The primary objectives of the EOS-08 mission include designing and developing a microsatellite, creating payload instruments compatible with the microsatellite bus, and incorporating new technologies required for future operational satellites, an ISRO release said earlier.

Built on the Microsat/IMS-1 bus, the EOS-08 carries three payloads: the Electro-Optical Infrared Payload (EOIR), the Global Navigation Satellite System-Reflectometry Payload (GNSS-R), and the SiC UV Dosimeter.

The EOIR payload is designed to capture images in the Mid-Wave IR (MIR) and Long-Wave IR (LWIR) bands, both during the day and night, for applications such as satellite-based surveillance, disaster monitoring, environmental monitoring, fire detection, volcanic activity observation, and industrial and power plant disaster monitoring. The GNSS-R payload demonstrates the capability of using GNSS-R-based remote sensing for applications such as ocean surface wind analysis, soil moisture assessment, cryosphere studies over the Himalayan region, flood detection, and inland waterbody detection.

The spacecraft mission configuration is set to operate in a Circular Low Earth Orbit (LEO) at an altitude of 475 km with an inclination of 37.4°, and has a mission life of 1 year. The satellite has a mass of approximately 175.5 kg and generates power of around 420 W. It interfaces with the SSLV-D3/IBL-358 launch vehicle.

EOS-08 marks a significant advancement in satellite mainframe systems such as an Integrated Avionics system, known as the Communication, Baseband, Storage, and Positioning (CBSP) Package, which combines multiple functions into a single, efficient unit. This system is designed with cold redundant systems using commercial off-the-shelf (COTS) components and evaluation boards, supporting up to 400 GB of data storage. Additionally, the satellite includes a structural panel embedded with PCB, an embedded battery, a Micro-DGA (Dual Gimbal Antenna), an M-PAA (Phased Array Antenna), and a flexible solar panel, each serving as key components for onboard technology demonstration. And the only way to do that is a punishment so harsh that it scares the living daylights out of such perpetrators. That’s what we need. Perhaps ? I stand with the victim’s family in seeking justice for their daughter and I stand with all the Doctors that were attacked last night,” his post further read.

Left, BJP Want To Create Unrest in West Bengal: Mamata

West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee alleged that the Left is in connivance with the Ram (the Bharatiya Janata party) to create unrest in West Bengal.

“The people who vandalised RG Kar Hospital yesterday and created this ruckus are not connected to the student movement of RG Kar Medical College, they are outsiders, I have seen as many videos, I have three videos as I can see, in which some people are holding national flags, they are BJP people, and some are DYFI are holding white and red flags,” CM Banerjee said.

For one hour, they couldn’t be found, and when they were found, they were unconscious and were seen blood oozing out from their heads. I informed the police at 3 am and had them taken to Apollo Hospital… I would like to congratulate them that they did not lose patience, they did not hurt anyone.”

“Now the case is not in our hands, it is in the hands of CBI, if you have something to say, then tell CBI, we have no objection…,” Banerjee added.

1984 Anti-Sikh Riots: Grounds To Presume Accused Instigated Unlawful Assembly

M’rashtra Businessman Seeks FIR Against Benin-Based Firms In Rs 6.34 Cr Rice Export Fraud

A Maharashtra businessman has lodged a complaint with Delhi Police, seeking an FIR against Benin-based firms STE RISING SARL and SOCIETE AGRIC TECH RICE SARL, along with four Indian agents involved in a fraud amounting to approximately Rs 6.34 crore (USD 758,000) related to rice exports.

Complainant Sarvesh Bhutada, represented by Supreme Court lawyer SC Mishra, has requested the registration of an FIR and the initiation of legal proceedings against the accused. Bhutada seeks appropriate legal action under the relevant sections of the law to address the fraud.

The owner of the agro-products company alleged that the fraud was perpetrated by Indians who placed purchase orders for rice exports to Cotonou, Benin.

Ganesh Agro Products, a rice exporter from Gondia district in Maharashtra, has alleged that it has been waiting over a year for payments from import agents in Cotonou, Benin.

The company has filed an application with the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) and issued a legal notice to the defaulters, but there has been no significant progress in securing the payments.

Earlier, Ganesh Agro Products issued a legal notice to the alleged culprits, including the Benin-based firms.

The company, which began exporting non-basmati rice in 2021-22, faced initial disruptions due to the COVID-19 pandemic but saw improvement in 2022-23 and 2023-24.

They received several purchase orders for parboiled rice from Cotonou, Benin, from the owner of STE Rising Star SARL.

The alleged fraudsters placed these orders through both STE Rising Star SARL and Societe Agric-Tech Rice SARL, which operate in Benin.

Earlier, Ganesh Agro Products complained to the Ministry of External Affairs regarding the fraud. The company has appealed to the government to take action against the Indians involved in the fraudulent activities.

Ganesh Agro Products has appealed to the Government of India to take stringent action against these individuals, ensure their return to India, and secure payment of their dues with interest.

The company also alleged in its application that the accused might be involved in money laundering.

The accused have reportedly engaged in similar fraudulent activities with other Indians and are currently absconding from Cotonou, alleged the complainant. (ANI)
