Union Minister Giriraj Singh Mamata

BJP’s Giriraj Compares Mamata To Kim Jong-Un

Reacting to the West Bengal CM Mamata Banerjee’s “If you burn Bengal, Assam, North-East, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Jharkhand, Odisha, and Delhi too shall burn!” remarks, Union Minister Giriraj Singh on Thursday compared Mamata Banerjee to North Korea’ Supreme Leader Kim Jong-Un and said Mamata can’t tolerate her opposition similar to him.

Taking the reaction further, Singh said that this can’t be the language of a democratic person.

On West Bengal CM Mamata Banerjee’s speech, Union Minister Giriraj Singh said, “This can’t be the language of a democratic person, of a Chief Minister. North Korean leader Kim Jong-Un doesn’t tolerate his Opposition. Similarly, Mamata Banerjee doesn’t tolerate the words of her Opposition.”

Launching a scathing attack on West Bengal CM Mamata Banerjee, BJP spokesperson Shehzad Poonawala on Thursday said that she is insulting protestors and doctors when she says demanding justice is like causing unrest.

Poonawala further said that nobody is safe in West Bengal except criminals.

He further slammed the leaders of the INDIA alliance Rahul Gandhi and Akhilesh Yadav for Mamata’s statement of burning Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Assam, Northeast and Odisha and asked whether they would question Mamata in this regard or not.

Earlier on Wednesday, while speaking at a public function in Kolkata, in response to BJP’s 12-hour long ‘Bengal Bandh’ call, Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee had claimed that Prime Minister Narendra Modi is using his party to cause a fire in Bengal over the Kolkata woman doctor rape and murder incident and warned that If you burn Bengal, other states including Assam, North-East, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Jharkhand, Odisha and Delhi too shall burn and your chair will be toppled.

“Some people think this is Bangladesh. I love Bangladesh; they speak like us and share our culture. But remember, Bangladesh is a separate country, and India is a separate country. Modi Babu is using his party to cause fire here. If you burn Bengal, Assam, North-East, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Jharkhand, Odisha, and Delhi too shall burn! We will topple your chair,” Mamata Banerjee said.

In a post on X, the Assam Chief Minister also targeted CM Mamata and said, “Didi, how dare you threaten Assam? Don’t show us red eyes. Don’t even try to burn India with your politics of failure. It does not suit you to speak divisive language.” (ANI)

Men Continue to Violate Women Without a Shred of Fear

‘Men Continue to Violate Women Without a Shred of Fear or Guilt’

Debadrita Ghosh, 25, a final-year BDS student, says taking lady doctors off night duty only turns the wheel backwards; rot lies elsewhere and that needs to be fixed. Her views:

As a medical student, I’ve witnessed my fair share of struggles—exhausting hours, sleepless nights, the constant pressure to excel—but nothing shakes me more than the reality that haunts our society today. The rape and murder of a junior doctor from RG Kar Medical College in Kolkata is not just another incident. It is a gut-wrenching reminder of the sickness festering deep within our society—a sickness that runs far deeper than we acknowledge.

We talk about rape as if it’s some isolated act of perversion, but it isn’t. It’s embedded in the fabric of our everyday existence, where women are constantly objectified and reduced to mere bodies. It’s in the way men feel entitled to our time, space, and, most horrifyingly, our bodies.

This sense of entitlement is not born overnight; it’s nurtured from a young age. Boys grow up believing they can take what they want, without fear of repercussion, while girls are conditioned to lower their gaze and remain silent. This is rape culture. And it’s terrifyingly widespread.

Walking through the hospital corridors, I’m not just thinking about my patients or studies. I’m thinking about my safety. I’m thinking about the probability of being next. And that thought isn’t just confined to me—it lingers in the minds of every female doctor, nurse, or healthcare worker. We didn’t sign up for this. We signed up to heal, help, and make lives better, but somewhere along the way, our safety has become a luxury we can’t afford.

It’s absurd to think that doctors, people who dedicate their lives to saving others, are at the forefront of violence—physical, verbal, and now sexual. It started with doctors being beaten in emergency wards by irate relatives and patients who couldn’t be cured as if we held some magical power over life and death. And now, we are raped and murdered for simply existing in a world where our bodies are seen as public property.

ALSO READ: ‘Monsters of Kolkata Rape Must Get Exemplary Punishment’

Recently, the state decided to amend policies to reduce the number of night shifts for women. I can understand the intent—to protect us from harm, given the constant threat we face during late hours—but how does that help us? Are we to be caged in the name of protection? After fighting for so long to be treated as equals, how can we now agree to take a step back? Should we limit our work, limit our potential, just to avoid violence?

No. We, women, have struggled far too much for equality to turn the wheel backward now. Limiting our presence during night duties only reinforces the idea that women are inherently vulnerable and need special treatment. Instead, what we need is a society that doesn’t make us feel like we are at risk, day or night.

What shakes me to the core is the impunity with which these crimes are committed. Men continue to violate women without a shred of fear because they know they will likely face no real consequences. Our judicial system is slow, and societal attitudes toward rape still hinge on victim blaming. Where is the fear of punishment? Where is the accountability?

This isn’t just a women’s issue. It’s a societal issue. The collective mindset needs to change. Laws alone won’t help unless they are enforced with the severity that matches the crime. But more than that, we need to reshape the way we think, the way we raise our children. We need to teach respect, empathy, and consent from the beginning. We need to dismantle the toxic masculinity that feeds this sense of entitlement. And until that happens, I will live every day with the dread of being the next headline.

Because it’s not just about being a doctor anymore. It’s about being a woman in a society that has failed to protect us. It’s about a rape culture that persists because we have allowed it to. And until we confront that truth, until we fight back against the rot that runs deep, I fear nothing will change.

Russia US

Russia Bans Entry To Nearly 100 US Nationals

Russia has imposed a ban on 92 US nationals, including over two dozen journalists, the Russian Foreign ministry announced on Thursday.

The sanctions have been made in “response to the Biden administration’s Russophobic policy with a stated goal of ‘inflicting a strategic defeat on Moscow’,” state media TASS said.

The list of US citizens includes members of the US government, pro-democracy activists, academics, and leaders of defence contracting firms and financial institutions that supply weapons to Ukraine to respond to Russia’s war.

The ban applies to some reporters from the Wall Street Journal, the Washington Post and the New York Times, according to the Russian Foreign Ministry statement.

The list of sanctioned people include “editorial staff and reporters of leading liberal-globalist publications involved in the production and dissemination of false stories about Russia and the Russian armed forces and propaganda that covers up the ‘hybrid war’ unleashed by Washington,” the country’s foreign ministry said.

Among the journalists listed is Wall Street Journal Editor-in-Chief Emma Tucker, who advocated for reporter Evan Gershkovich, who was released earlier this month in a prisoner swap.

Another 13 current or former employees at the WSJ on the list, include the outlet’s deputy editor-in-chief, its head of the world news division, its Kyiv bureau chief, its former Moscow bureau chief and a member of its editorial board.

Five New York Times journalists, four Washington Post journalists and a some reporters for British papers were also listed.

Commander of the US Space Command Stephen Whiting, Commander of Space Systems Command Philip Garrant, and Deputy Assistant Secretary of Defence for Space Policy John Plumb also figure on the sanctions list.

The sanctions add to the list of more than 2,000 Americans who have already been barred entry to the country, including many US politicians.

The move as per the Russian foreign ministry is response to the “insane sanctions frenzy of the American ruling elite, the practice of expanding the list of people under entry bans will be continued with determination and consistency by including those who are directly involved in anti-Russian activities.”

The ministry statement said that it wants to remind the “current US authorities that punishment is inevitable for hostile acts” whether they directly encourage Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelenskyy and his “sidekicks” to “commit acts of aggression and terrorist attacks or represent attempts to interfere in the internal affairs of the Russian Federation.”

Recently, the US Treasury Department stated that it has targeted companies and individuals “whose products and services enable Russia to sustain its military efforts and evade sanctions.”

The sanctions list released on August 23 includes 34 Russians, including Pavel Belousov, the son of the Russian Defence Minister Andrey Belousov.

Further, the US Commerce Department’s Bureau of Industry and Security (BIS) announced that it is taking aggressive action to further restrict the supply of both US-origin and “US branded” (i.e., labeled) items to Russia and Belarus for “Kremlin’s illegal war on Ukraine.”

BIS has added 123 entities under 131 entries to the Entity List– 63 entities in Russia or the Crimea Region of Ukraine, 42 in China including Hong Kong and 14 entities in Turkiye, Iran, and Cyprus.

Since March 2022 the BIS has added 1,056 entries to the Entity List in response to Vladimir Putin’s February 2022 invasion of Ukraine and ongoing aggression against the country. (ANI)

Former Jharkhand CM Champai Soren BJP

Will Protect Rights Of Tribals: Soren Ahead Of Joining BJP

Former Jharkhand CM Champai Soren on Thursday said that he is joining the BJP to protect the interests of Tribals.

Speaking to ANI ahead of his formal joining on Friday the former JMM stalwart said, “I am going to join that party (BJP) after a lot of deliberations. From there, I will protect the existence of tribals. Their population is declining, I will raise my voice regarding that. I will join the BJP tomorrow. After that, I will shoulder all the responsibilities that will be given to me.”

Earlier, the BJP moved to ensure that the formal joining of Soren takes place without a hitch. On Thursday the Principal Private Secretary (PPS) to the Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma wrote to the Jharkhand government for security preparations for the CM’s visit to the state on August 30. The Assam CM will visit Jharkhand on Friday when former Jharkhand Chief Minister Champai Soren will join the BJP.

The PPS to Assam CM said, “Requested kindly to make all necessary arrangements including reception, see off, security, transportation etc., for Assam Chief Minister as per protocol.”

Assam CM Himanta Sarma will reach Birsa Munda Airport in Ranchi at 10 am.

Earlier, Champai Soren vowed to focus on the development of tribals after he announced on joining the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). He also emphasized that he is joining the BJP with the intent to develop the state and to save the very existence of tribals who are in danger due to Bangladeshi infiltration.

Speaking to ANI, Soren highlighted his dedication to advancing the state’s development and said, “We don’t have the next plan yet. On the 30th, I will join the Bharatiya Janata Party. It is the biggest party in the country. Whatever role the party will give me; I will do it.”

Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Monday revealed Soren’s decision to join the BJP.

“Former Chief Minister of Jharkhand and a distinguished Adivasi leader of our country, Champai Soren, met Union Home Minister Amit Shah a short while ago. He will officially join the BJP on 30th August in Ranchi,” the Assam CM said in a post on X.

Jharkhand Chief Minister Hemant Soren responded to the news saying, “The people of the state will decide if there were any shortcomings.”

Independent MP Pappu Yadav criticized Champai Soren’s decision, stating that it would erode trust and undermine the leadership of Hemant Soren. The Congress accused the BJP of leveraging prominent figures from rival parties who have “high ambitions.”

“Hemant Soren is the biggest leader there and Champai Soren was the acting CM. After Hemant ji returned, he was elected again. It is not right when he (Champai Soren) says that he is not getting respect. We have seen that BJP goes where they see someone who has high ambitions,” Congress leader Sandeep Dikshit said while speaking to ANI. (ANI)

Mukesh Ambani about India Economy

Reliance To Consider 1:1 Bonus In Its Sept 5th Board Meet: Mukesh

Reliance Industries announced that its Board of Directors will be meeting on September 5, 2024, to consider a 1:1 bonus issue for its equity shareholder, the company informed the exchange in a filing on Thursday.

This means that for every share an investor holds, they may receive an additional share if the proposal is approved.

“We wish to inform you that pursuant to Regulation 29 and other applicable provisions of the Securities and Exchange Board of India (Listing Obligations and Disclosure Requirements) Regulations, 2015 (“Listing Regulations”), a meeting of the Board of Directors of the Company is scheduled to be held on Thursday, September 5, 2024 to consider and recommend to the shareholders for their approval, issue of bonus shares in the ratio of 1:1 to the Equity Shareholders of the Company by capitalization of reserves” said the company in the filing.

The company stated that the board will discuss and potentially recommend this bonus issue to the shareholders for their approval.

If the board approves this bonus issue, it will be funded by capitalizing the company’s reserves. A 1:1 bonus issue is often seen as a way to reward existing shareholders by increasing the number of shares they hold, effectively doubling their shares without any additional cost.

While this does not change the overall value of their investment, it can increase the liquidity of the shares in the market.

Bonus issues can also reflect a company’s confidence in its future prospects and a strong financial position, as it typically indicates that the company has sufficient reserves to distribute among shareholders.

Shareholders and investors will be closely watching the outcome of the meeting on September 5, as this decision could impact the stock’s performance and investor sentiment. If the bonus issue is approved, the shareholders will need to give their final nod in a subsequent general meeting.

Reliance Industries is a conglomerate with diversified interests in sectors such as petrochemicals, refining, oil, telecommunications, and retail. (ANI)
