Parivartan Sabha in Khunti Nadda

Nadda Highlights BJP’s Commitment To Tribal Rights, Women’s Protection At Parivartan Sabha In Khunti

Union Minister and BJP National President JP Nadda addressed the Parivartan Sabha in Khunti on Monday, emphasising that the ‘parivartan yatra’ aims to uphold the rights of tribal communities, safeguard women’s rights, protect them against land grabbing, and take strong action against those who have deceived them.

Addressing a public rally in Khunti on Monday, JP Nadda said, “This Parivartan Yatra is a resolve to safeguard the rights of our innocent tribal brothers, a resolve to protect our mothers and daughters. This Parivartan Yatra is a journey to protect those who are trying to usurp the lands of the tribal brothers and to assure you that action will be taken against those who have cheated them.”

“Today I have received the good fortune to start this Parivartan Yatra on the holy land of Khunti. I believe this yatra will bring change in Jharkhand. I wish you all the best for this and also hope that you make this Parivartan Yatra successful,” said the BJP chief.

Taking a dig at the Hemant Soren-led JMM government, Nadda said, “When JMM talks about ‘Adivasi Asmita,’ their ‘Asmita’ is restricted to their own family. Is Champai Soren, not a tribal leader? Is Sita Soren, not a tribal leader? Why were they humiliated? It is only the BJP that will protect the interests of tribal people,” said Nadda.

Adding further, Nadda said, “15th November is celebrated as Janjatiya Gaurav Divas, PM Modi has decided to mark the 150th birth anniversary of Lord Birsa Munda as ‘Janjatiya Gaurav Varsh”

“PM Modi is the only Prime Minister to visit the ancestral village of Lord Birsa Munda. He bowed to that soil. Droupadi Murmu is the first woman belonging to a tribal community that has been made the President of India,” said Nadda.

The BJP chief also launched an attack on the ruling JMM-led alliance in Jharkhand, accusing it of betraying the tribal community and patronising infiltrators for votes.

Highlighting the alleged mistreatment of senior tribal leader Champai Soren, Nadda claimed that the former chief minister was humiliated within his party, the Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM), after being forced to step down upon Hemant Soren’s return from jail.

“Tribal leader Champai Soren was humiliated and forced to leave the JMM,” said Nadda addressing a rally in Jharkhand’s Khunti.

The BJP president also raised concerns over a sharp decline in the tribal population, attributing it to what he described as the unchecked rise of infiltrators in the state.

Earlier on September 20, while addressing a rally in Jharkhand’s Giridih, Union Home Minister Amit Shah launched a scathing attack on the Hemant Soren-led JMM government in Jharkhand, accusing it of committing “injustice” against the people of the state.

Speaking at the BJP’s ‘Parivartan Sabha’ in Giridih, Shah urged the public to vote out the current government and bring the BJP to power, promising transformative changes for the poor, Dalits, Adivasis, and OBCs in the state.

“We started a yatra from the Palamu division this morning, and another from Giridih. Both have been named ‘Parivartan Yatra’. Three more yatras will be taken out, each carrying the message of ‘parivartan’ (change) to every assembly constituency in Jharkhand,” Shah said.

Amit Shah flagged off the ‘Parivartan Yatra’ in Jharkhand’s Sahibganj district on September 20 afternoon. Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, Jharkhand BJP chief Babulal Marandi, and former CM Champai Soren were present on the occasion.

Jharkhand is set to go to polls for its 81-member legislative assembly later this year, as the current government’s tenure ends in 2024. The Election Commission of India (ECI) is yet to announce the dates. (ANI)

Rahul Gandhi Rally

LG Is Outsider, Cannot Do What Is In Hearts Of People Of J-K: Rahul

The Lok Sabha Leader of Opposition, Rahul Gandhi, asserted that the INDIA bloc will provide statehood to Jammu and Kashmir and said that earlier, people used to make decisions through their elected MLAs, but today a king (LG) has been appointed who is an outsider who cannot understand what is in the hearts of the people.

Addressing a public rally on Monday, Rahul Gandhi said, “Earlier, in Jammu & Kashmir, people used to make decisions through their elected MLAs, but today a king has been appointed. The LG is like a king, and he is an outsider. That’s why he cannot do what is in the hearts of the people of J-K. He doesn’t even know how to do it.”

He asserted further that the democratic rights of the Jammu and Kashmir people have been snatched.

“In India, UTs were made states. States were divided. Madhya Pradesh was divided to form Chhattisgarh, Bihar was divided to form Jharkhand, and Andhra Pradesh was divided to form Telangana. But, never in the history of India, a state was made UT. For the first time, the rights of the people of the state have been snatched and it has been made a UT. You have been subjected to injustice, your democratic rights have been snatched and I want that you get statehood at the earliest,” Rahul added.

The Congress MP emphasised further that after the election, he guarantees that the first thing he will do is put pressure on the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) to restore statehood.

Lashing out at the BJP, Rahul Gandhi said that they only work for 2-3 billionaires.

“They have waived off Rs 16,000 crore for 25 people. But they don’t waive loans for the poor, farmers, labourers, women, or students. They implemented a wrong GST and demonetisation, which caused small businesses to shut down. As a result, today the youth of India, and particularly Jammu & Kashmir, cannot find employment,” he said.

Taking a jibe at Prime Minister Modi, the Leader of the Opposition said that Narendra Modi was once referred to as having a “56-inch chest.”

“He used to speak with pride and confidence, but now the INDIA bloc and Congress have changed Narendra Modi’s psychology. He is no longer the same as before. For the past 10 years, wherever Narendra Modi goes, he spreads hatred,” he added.

“Wherever the BJP had opened ‘Nafrat ka bazar’, we went there and opened ‘Mohabbat ki dukaan’. We will continue to do this,” Rahul said.

Jammu and Kashmir is voting for its 90-member assembly in three phases. The first phase of voting took place on September 18.

Notably, a voter turnout of 61.13 pc was registered in the first phase of polling in the Jammu and Kashmir assembly polls, which were held in 24 constituencies in seven districts on September 18.

‘Language Isn’t The Barrier; Prejudiced Mindset Is’

Anubha Agarwal, a mental wellbeing advocate and researcher based in Bangalore, speaks about her experience as a non-Kannadiga living in Bengaluru

Well, like I said, Bangalore is a city I am passionate about. I’ll share a few points from my experience of living here for a couple of years now. I’ve been wanting to learn Kannada language personally as I feel it would allow me to express my thoughts and opinion easily and with more nuance. While many folks know some smattering of Hindi, and are quite good at understanding and speaking English there are some folks – for example my iron lady, the people from whom I purchase my fruits and vegetables – do not speak Hindi or English. But our interactions so far have never felt discriminatory or prejudiced.

There are a few auto drivers who don’t speak English or Hindi, or probably choose not to (just like the French and Spanish), do pose a bit of a challenge to deal with. So, it is very individual or situation based basically. I usually say ‘Kannada Goti illa‘ which means ‘I don’t know Kannada’ and the situation gets managed reasonably. Of course, I cannot listen to their stories because of the language barrier.

Recently, the Karnataka Government ran a campaign where all shop fronts needed to have 60% signage in Kannada, which led to this frenzy among shop owners to change their sign posts. Obviously the move had political reasons.

ALSO READ: ‘Language is a Medium to Assimilate, Not Alienate, People’

Yet, it did feel a bit extreme to me personally and made life a bit difficult for many people who have settled in Bengaluru from outside Karnataka. With only Kannada signage on these shops, how do you go to procure stuff when you can’t understand which shop to go to and for what? Nevertheless, we have to manage that.

I do feel limited in my lack of Kannada knowledge as it limits my interaction with locals who didn’t learn English in school and never had to learn Hindi. I plan to make amends on that front and have started learning Kannada slowly. But for me this urge to learn Kannada stems from experiencing Bangalore and the rest of Karnataka more deeply, and not so much from the point of view of discrimination or harassment.

However, I also wouldn’t want to find myself in a situation on the road where lack of Kannada knowledge at my end leads to an aggravated situation owing to understanding the barrier as I don’t work or commute on a daily basis for work. My experience is more with locals here.

In a country like India with its linguistic diversity, I think calling Hindi an official language is also problematic. So, the few North Indians who stay in Bangalore and use that argument to insist that Kannadigas should learn Hindi is equally problematic in my opinion. You see, language really isn’t the barrier. People’s mindsets and politics are.
