Kolkata Rape-Murder Case: CBI Seeks Narco Test Of Accused

The Central Bureau of Investigation has moved the Sealdah court in Kolkata, seeking permission to conduct a narco-analysis test of Sanjoy Roy, the accused in R G Kar Hospital rape and murder case.

The accused was presented before the Sealdah court for a closed-door hearing on Friday. The consent of the accused is also being sought for the narco test as it is mandatory.

Earlier Roy along with the principal of R G Kar College and others have undergone a polygraph test.

Meanwhile, junior doctors have continued to protest against the rape and murder of the second-year PG student in the seminar hall of the college on August 9. They held their protest in front of the Swasthya Bhawan.

On Thursday, Mamata Banerjee announced that she is ready to resign from her post amid the continued protest.

“I am ready to resign from the Chief Minister of West Bengal. I am not concerned about the post. I want justice for the victim, I am only concerned about ordinary people getting medical service.”

She also assured that no action would be taken against the protesting doctors.

Mamata Banerjee said, “I tried my best to sit with the junior doctors. I waited three days for them that they should have come and settle their problem. Even when they didn’t accept the verdict of the Supreme Court, I waited 3 days with my highest officials, including Chief Secretary, Home Secretary, DG and my MoS. I am sorry. I apologize to the people of this country and the world who are supporting them (doctors), please give your support. I don’t have any problem. We want justice for the victim. We want justice for the common people. We want justice for the treatment of common people. We want that, as per Supreme Court instruction, they must join their duty. Though, 3 days passed after the Supreme Court verdict but we are not taking any disciplinary action because sometimes we have to tolerate. It is our duty to tolerate sometimes.”

Meanwhile, Bengal Governor C V Ananda Bose said that he would “socially boycott” Mamata Banerjee whom he dubbed as “Lady Macbeth of West Bengal”.

“In solidarity with the Bengal society, I resolve that I will socially boycott the Chief Minister. Socially boycott means I will not be sharing any public platform with the Chief Minister nor will I participate in any public program which involves the Chief Minister. My role as Governor will be confined to the constitutional obligations. Nothing more, nothing less. I am deeply pained that serious allegations of a criminal nature have been levelled against the highest officer who is supposed to prevent crime in Kolkata, the Kolkata Police Commissioner,” the Governor said in a video message released on Thursday. Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal

Kejriwal Returns Home Amid Emotional Reunion

Emotions ran high as Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal returned to his residence on Civil Lines Road after being released from Tihar jail on Friday night.

Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leaders, visibly elated with the return of their chief, joined his family in a heartfelt welcome.

His parents and wife, Sunita Kejriwal, greeted him with Aarti and garlands, marking a joyous reunion.

The atmosphere was charged with celebration as Arvind Kejriwal’s supporters and senior leaders of the party, including Manish Sisodia, Sanjay Singh, and Bhagwant Mann, embraced him warmly.

Kejriwal held a roadshow from Chandgiram Akhara to his official residence after being released from the Tihar jail and said, “The prison walls have increased my courage 100 times. My life is dedicated to the country. Every drop of my blood is dedicated to my country. God has always supported me. Why did God support me? Because I was truthful, I was right; I served the people; I fought for the country; that is why God is with me.”

“I express my gratitude to the countrymen who prayed for my release. Some people in the country, anti-national forces, want to weaken the country, want to divide the country. Today judges are being threatened. Attempts are being made to weaken the Election Commission. We have to fight against this. My fault is not that I have committed corruption, my fault is that I have spoken against such anti-national forces. I will continue to fight against such forces,” he added.

He was released from Tihar Jail on Friday evening, hours after the Supreme Court granted him bail in a corruption case related to the alleged Delhi Excise Policy scam.

Kejriwal’s lawyers furnished surety bonds for his release before the special CBI judge, citing the Supreme Court ruling.

Upon his release, Kejriwal was welcomed by a large crowd of AAP leaders and supporters outside the Tihar jail. His supporters celebrated outside his residence with firecrackers.

The Supreme Court on Friday granted bail to Kejriwal, saying prolonged incarceration amounts to unjust deprivation of liberty. The apex court also put certain conditions on Kejriwal’s release, including that he shall not make any public comments about the case and shall be present for all hearings before the trial court unless exempted.

Kejriwal was arrested by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) on March 21 in connection with the case.

On May 10, the Supreme Court granted him interim bail till June 1 in the money laundering case registered by the ED in connection with the now-scrapped Delhi Excise Policy. However, the court ordered that he should not visit the Office of the Chief Minister or the Delhi Secretariat. In compliance with this directive, he surrendered on June 2.

On June 26, he was arrested by the CBI while in ED custody in the excise case. On July 12, the Supreme Court granted him interim bail in the ED case, but Delhi’s Rouse Avenue Court extended his CBI custody. (ANI)

Sanjauli Mosque Break Out

After Sanjauli Mosque Break Out In Mandi Water Cannon Used To Disperse Crowd

Hindu organisations staged a protest over an alleged illegally constructed mosque in Mandi on Friday. As the crowd tried to bring down the line of barricades, police resorted to firing water cannon to disperse the crowd.

The protests had been called for by Hindu organisations even after Mosque authorities demolished parts of the complex that were allegedly unauthorized. Large crowds of protestors gathered along the jail road in Mandi and shouted slogans against the state government demanding action against the alleged illegal construction.

Earlier in the day, the Himachal Pradesh Police tightened security and placed barricades in the Jail Road area in Mandi on Friday.

According to Mandi Superintendent of Police Sakshi Verma, the heightened security was done following information received by the police of a gathering called by some organisation.

This protest followed those those that broke out over the illegal construction of a mosque in the Sanjauli area of the city on Wednesday.

Around 300 police personnel were deployed across the city and police nakas were placed at the entrance of Mandi town, Verma added.

“Law and order will be maintained. Through different sources, we have information that some organisations have given a call to gather here. 300 police personnel have been deployed, and police nakas have been placed at the entrance of Mandi town. Action will be taken on violation of prohibitory orders under 163 BNS,” SP Verma said.

However, BJP spokesperson Chetan Bragta criticised the Police for using force to disperse the protestors, “Another brazen attack on Hindus by the Congress government of Himachal, this time in Mandi. First Shimla, now this–using water cannons and force to suppress people. What exactly is this government trying to achieve?”

Earlier today, the police released the stone-pelting video of Wednesday’s protest held in Sanjauli over the alleged illegal construction of a mosque in Shimla.

Eight FIRs had been registered so far and six policemen were injured in the protest, including a woman police officer who had vertebral fractures and is in a serious condition.

Earlier on Wednesday, protestors removed the first layer of barricading and clashed with the security forces while entering the Dhalli Tunnel East portal during their protest march. Police personnel used water cannons and resorted to lathi-charge to disperse protestors heading towards the Sanjauli area of Shimla. (ANI)

Delhi Pollution

Dictatorship Has To Lose One Day: AAP’s Gopal Rai Attacks BJP

Welcoming the Supreme Court’s decision to grant bail to Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal in the Delhi excise policy case, Delhi Minister Gopal Rai, in a veiled attack on the BJP, said on Friday that “no matter how strong dictatorship is, it has to lose one day.”

Delhi minister and AAP leader Gopal Rai said, “Congratulations to everyone. Delhi CM is coming out now. There is joy among people. This judgement has sent a message across Delhi and the entire country that no matter how strong the dictatorship is; it has to lose one day.”

Expressing his joy, Aam Aadmi Party MLA Kuldeep Kumar said that all the conspiracies against Kejriwal have failed now and there will be a huge celebration in Delhi as soon as he comes out of jail.

AAP MLA Kuldeep Kumar said, “All the conspiracies against him have now failed. This is a big victory that the Supreme Court has granted him the bail. The whole fake scam planned by the BJP is now uncovered. There will be a huge celebration when the son of Delhi will arrive.”

The Supreme Court on Friday granted bail to Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal in a corruption case registered by CBI in the alleged excise policy scam.

A bench of Justices Surya Kant and Ujjal Bhuyan granted bail to Kejriwal saying prolonged incarceration amounts to unjust deprivation of liberty. The apex court granted bail to Kejriwal, subject to bail bonds of Rs 10 lakh.

Congress leader Pramod Tiwari on Friday welcomed the “unanimous decision” of the Supreme Court and accused the central government of misusing central agencies as the frontal organisations against the opposition parties.

Congress leader Pramod Tiwari said, “First Jharkhand CM Hemant Soren got the bail and now it is Arvind Kejriwal. The Supreme Court found this case to be bailable. The central government is misusing central agencies as the frontal organisations against the Opposition parties. There is an environment of fear in the country. The judgement has come after detailed discussions on all aspects. This is a unanimous decision of the Supreme Court and we welcome it. BJP and Modi to government should learn their lessons. This is not appropriate to harass the opposition leaders in a democratic country.”

RJD MP Manoj Jha said that a clear message had been sent by the court to the BJP that if it isn’t in power then the agencies could target them.

However, BJP spokesperson Pradeep Bhandari said that the order of bail for Kejriwal does not make him innocent.

“The court has affirmed Arvind Kejriwal’s arrest as valid. What is AAP celebrating? Since when does ‘ Bail make someone innocent ‘? The Court has not passed a single observation on the merit of the case. Kejriwal is barred from entering the CM office, or signing any documents. Why should the people of Delhi suffer under a leader who can’t even perform his duties even after being 150 days in jail like criminals accused of serious crime?” he said.

Kejriwal was arrested by the ED on March 21, 2024, in connection with a money laundering probe relating to alleged irregularities in the now-cancelled Delhi excise policy 2021-22. On June 26, 2024, AAP Chief Arvind Kejriwal was arrested by CBI while he was in custody of the Enforcement Directorate in the excise case. (ANI)

1984 Pul Bangash Sikh Killings: Court Puts Jagdish Tytler On Trial

The Rouse Avenue court on Friday put Congress leader Jagdish Tytler on trial in the Pul Bangash rioting and Sikh killings case. The court has listed for the recording of prosecution evidence after formally framing charges against Tytler.

Congress leader Jagdish Tytler appeared before the court and he denied charges framed against him. This case pertains to the killings of three Sikhs near Gurudwara Pul Bangash on November 1, 1984.

Special judge Rakesh Syal has listed the matter for trial and recording of evidence on October 3. The first witness called for evidence is Lakhvinder Kaur, whose husband Badal Singh was killed during riots.

On August 30, the court said that there are sufficient grounds to presume that he abetted the killing of three Sikhs by instigating the mob that attacked Gurudwara Pul Bangash, and some of them set it on fire.

Special CBI Judge Rakesh Syal said, “There appears to be sufficient grounds to presume that the accused has committed offences punishable under Sections 143, 147, 188 and 153 A IPC, Sections 295, 436, 451, 380 read with Section 149 IPC, and Section 302 r/w Section 109 IPC.”

The Rouse Avenue court directed to frame charges against Congress leader Jagdish Tytler in the Pul Bangash Sikh Killings case. The court directed to frame charges under sections 143, 153A, 188, 149, 380, and 436 IPC read with 302 and 109 IPC. He has been discharged under Section 148 IPC.

This incident occurred after the assassination of then-Prime Minister Indira Gandhi. The CBI had filed a supplementary charge sheet against Tytler on May 20, 2023.

On July 26, 2023, the court issued a summons to Congress leader Jagdish Tytler after taking cognisance of the supplementary charge sheet filed by the CBI against him. A supplementary charge sheet has been filed by the CBI in the case of killings in the Pul Bangash area in 1984.

Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate (ACMM) Vidhi Gupta Anand had issued a summons to Jagdish Tytler. “I have gone through the supplementary charge sheet, case record, statement of eyewitnesses, and other witnesses. There is sufficient material to proceed further,” ACMM Vidhi Gupta Anand said.

Tytler was granted bail on August 5, 2023, after his appearance before the court. The Central Bureau of Investigation on May 20 filed a charge sheet against Congress leader Jagdish Tytler in a case related to anti-Sikh riots in 1984 following the assassination of the then Prime Minister of India, on October 31, 1984.

In a statement, CBI mentioned that the agency had registered the instant case in November 2005 on an incident wherein Gurudwara Pul Bangash at Azad Market, Bara Hindu Rao, Delhi was set on fire by a mob and three persons namely Sardar Thakur Singh, Badal Singh and Gurcharan Singh were burnt to death on 1 November 1984 near Gurudwara Pul Bangash.

Justice Nanavati Commission of Inquiry was set up in the year 2000 by the Government of India to enquire into the incidents of anti-Sikh riots of the year 1984 in Delhi.

After consideration of the Commission’s report, the Ministry of Home Affairs (Government of India) issued directions to the CBI to investigate the case against the then Member of Parliament and others.

During the CBI investigation, evidence came on record that on November 1, 1984, the said accused allegedly instigated, incited and provoked the mob assembled at Gurudwara Pul Bangash at Azad Market, Delhi which resulted in the burning of Gurudwara Pul Bangash and killing of three Sikh persons by the mob, apart from burning & looting of shops.
