26 Rafale Marine Jet France NSA

Ahead Of NSA Visit, France Submits Final Price Offer For 26 Rafale Marine Jet Deal

France has submitted the final price offer to India for the 26 Rafale Marine Jet deal just ahead of the scheduled visit of Indian National Security Advisor Ajit Doval to the country.

Defence sources told ANI that the best and final price offer has been submitted to the Indian authorities by the French side for the project and a significant price reduction has been given after tough negotiations in the proposed contract.

India and France are negotiating the deal for buying 26 Rafale Marine jets which are going to be deployed on the INS Vikrant aircraft carrier and different bases.

The two sides had also held negotiations last week when a French team was in the national capital for finalizing the discussions with India.

The deal is scheduled to be taken up for discussion during the India-France Strategic Dialogue where the Indian NSA is scheduled to meet his French counterparts from tomorrow in Paris.

The deal is important for the Indian Navy as it is looking at strengthening its maritime strike capability.

India has also approved deviations in the letter of request, which is the tender document equivalent in government to government deals, like the integration of the indigenous Uttam radar in the jets for the Indian Navy.

Sources said that the integration would have taken a longer time of around eight years along with a high price to be paid to the French side for doing so.

India had also asked France for integration of indigenous weapons on the plane. This includes the Astra beyond visual range missiles along with the Rudram anti-radiation missiles.

The sources added that the price for the deal has been based on the agreements over rate it inflation to be taken into account and would be using the previous deal for 36 Rafale fighter aircraft for the Indian Air Force as the basis.

Some of the Indian Air Force requirements have also been incorporated in the naval deal which will include around 40 drop tanks and a small number of work stations for the planes.

The Indian side is also going to get more number of long range air to air Meteor missiles and with the anti-ship weaponry in this project planned to be concluded before the end of this financial year. (ANI)

Prabath, Peiris, Kamindu Shine

Prabath, Peiris, Kamindu Shine As SL Registers First Series Win Over NZ In 15 Yrs

A trio of centuries by Kamindu Mendis, Dinesh Chandimal, and Kusal Mendis and a dominant bowling performance by spinners Prabath Jayasuriya and Nishan Peiris helped Sri Lanka seal the second Test against New Zealand by an innings and 154 runs to secure their first series win against Kiwis in 15 years.

The Island nation, which lost its series to Kiwis away from home by 2-0 in the 2022-23 season and drew the two-match series at home back in 2019 by 1-1, beat the 2021 ICC World Test Champions by 2-0 and secured their first series win against them since 2009. In these 15 years, they lost three series, all away from home, and managed to draw two, both at home.

Opting to bat first, the only low point of Sri Lankan inning was dismissal of Pathum Nissanka for just one run. A triple delight followed for Lankan fans as stroke-filled centuries came from Dinesh Chandimal (116 in 208 balls, with 15 fours), Kamindu Mendis (182 in 250 balls, with 16 fours and four sixes) and Kusal Mendis (106 in 49 balls, with six fours and three sixes). It pushed SL to 602/5 declared in the first innings, batting for almost two days.

Glenn Phillips (3/141) was the pick of the bowlers for NZ.

Each of these centuries had some milestones associated with it. Chandimal joined the likes of Tilakrathne Dilshan, Marvan Athapattu, Dimuth Karunaratne, and Angelo Mathews to become the fourth-highest century-maker for Lanka in Tests, with 16 centuries each.

Kamindu continued his monumental run in Tests, tying with legendary Australian Don Bradman to reach the 1,000 Test runs mark in just 13 innings, the second-fastest by a batter and fastest by a Lankan. He also tied with Indian legend Sunil Gavaskar for joint-most fifty-plus scores in the first eight Tests, with nine such scores. Kamindu’s Test batting average, which currently stands at 91.27, is only bettered by legendary Bradman himself, who had an average of 99.94.

With his century, Kusal became only the 10th Sri Lankan player to reach the 10,000 run mark in international cricket, joining elite players like Athapattu, Kumar Sangakkara, Mahela Jayawardene, Mathews, and Dilshan, among others.

If Sri Lanka had pulled off a batting marathon, New Zealand batters struggled on a spin-friendly surface. Catches to skipper Dhananjaya de Silva came in plenty as deliveries edged the bat of Kiwi players consistently and beat them consistently. Mitchell Santner (29 in 51 balls, with four boundaries and a six) was the top-scorer as NZ was bundled out for just 88 runs in 39.5 overs. Only two players could cross the 10-run mark.

Spinner Prabath Jayasuriya continued his love affair with Galle, taking 6/42 and his eighth five-wicket haul at the venue. Nishan Peiris, another spinner in the squad, picked up 3/33 in his debut Test.

Sri Lanka led by 514 runs, the fifth-highest ever first-inning lead in Test cricket history.

In their second innings, the Kiwis fared slightly better. Devon Conway (61 in 62 balls, with 10 fours and a six) made a return-to-form fifty, and Kane Williamson (46 in 58 balls, with four boundaries), Tom Blundell (47*), were among the runs, finishing day three at 199/5, trailed by 315 runs.

On the fourth day, Blundell made his half-century, but fell to Peiris early for 60 in 64 balls, with six fours and two sixes. Glenn Phillips (78 in 99 balls, with six fours and three sixes) and Mitchell Santner (67 in 115 balls, with six fours and three sixes) put up a 64-run stand for the seventh wicket, trying to get their team to 300 runs. However, Peiris removed Philips with a fine catch by Karunaratne.

Another half-century partnership followed between Santner and Ajaz Patel (22), but the mountain was just to big to climb for Kiwis. They were bundled out for 360 in 81.4 overs, with Santner being the final wicket.

In the second innings, Peiris took a six-wicket haul, getting his six scalps for 170 runs in 33.4 overs. Prabath got three wickets. Skipper Dhananjaya also chipped in with a wicket.

Kamindu was given the ‘Player of the Match’ for his performance.

Brief Scores: Sri Lanka: 602/5 (Kamindu Mendis 182, Dinesh Chandimal 116, Glenn Phillips 3/141) beat New Zealand: 88 and 360 (Glenn Phillips 78, Mitchell Santner 67, Nishan Peiris 6/170) by an innings and 154 runs. (ANI)

Udhayanidhi Stalin

Udhayanidhi Stalin Designated As TN Dy CM

Tamil Nadu deputy chief minister designate Udhayanidhi Stalin said on Sunday that he hopes his work before justifies the decision to elevate him to Deputy CM.

The Dy CM designate paid his tributes to former DMK Chief M Karunanidhi at his memorial in Chennai, ahead of the swearing in ceremony at Raj Bhavan on Sunday.

Tamil Nadu Ministers Sekar babu , T R B Rajaa, Anbil Mahesh and other MLAs were also seen at the memorial.

Speaking to reporters after visiting the memorial, the deputy chief minister designate said that the Chief Minister and the ministers have given him a big responsibility, and he hopes to fulfil it.

“Last night, the Chief Minister gave me an additional charge, announcing me as the Deputy Chief Minister. Four new ministers are taking oath today and I wish them all the best. I express my gratitude to the Chief Minister. This is not a position but an additional responsibility, my thanks to all who have expressed their wishes” he said.

Talking about the criticism levied against him, he said. “Of course there is criticism, I will try my best to take in all the criticism and work my best for the public. I accept all your criticisms and will respond to them through my work”

Earlier, Tamil Nadu BJP state president Narayanan Thirupathy criticised the recent cabinet reshuffle of the state government and Minister Udhayanidhi Stalin’s elevation as Deputy Chief Minister.

In a self-made video, the BJP leader said that Udhayanidhi Stalin does not have the “maturity” to hold the post of a minister, let alone be the Deputy CM.

“Appointing ministers or deputy chief ministers is the prerogative of the Chief Minister, we don’t deny that. He has all the right. But Udhayanidhi Stalin does not have enough maturity to become not only the Deputy Chief Minister but also a minister. A person becomes a minister, degrading, demeaning, saying that he will eradicate sanathan dharma, and you don’t apologise for that. How can he become the Deputy Chief Minister?” Thirupathy asked.

Additionally, DMK MP Kanimozhi replied to the criticism of choosing Udhayanidhi Stalin as the Dy CM, saying that the opposition parties should not question the CM Stalin’s decision as he has been voted to power.

“It is the Chief Minister who has been voted to make that decision, so I don’t think opposition parties can make that decision or question the CM’s decision about any office regarding the cabinet,” she said.

Udhayanidhi Stalin was elevated as the Deputy chief minister on Saturday. Earlier he was serving as the Minister for Youth Welfare and Sports Development. He will also take on the portfolio of Planning and Development in addition to his existing responsibilities.

The announcement comes as part of a major cabinet reshuffle in the state government. The reshuffle also sees Senthil Balaji being re-inducted into the Tamil Nadu cabinet.

CM Stalin has recommended inducting V Senthil Balaji, Dr Govi Chezhiaan, R Rajendran, and SM Nasar into the Council of Ministers.

Ahead of the swearing in ceremony to be held at Raj Bhavan on Sunday afternoon, DMK cadres celebrated by bursting crackers and distributing sweets to the public in Trichy. (ANI)

Fight Back Work Pressure; Focus on Personal Growth

‘Fight Back Work Pressure; Focus on Personal Growth & Savings’

Himanshu Kohli, a techie employed with the IT sector, offers some advice to handle the hardships and toxic work culture in MNCs. His tips:

Many employees working in private organizations and MNCs often talk about their work pressure, tough deadlines and office stress. A lot of my friends across the industry frequently complain about keeping long hours, not just on weekdays but also on weekends. They confide how they feel choked under a toxic 24x7x365 hustle work culture.

An assignment that would take a few months to complete has to be completed in a month, a task that would take a few weeks has to be completed in one week, and work that should be done in a span of a few days should be over in a day and that of a day in a few hours. You get the drift? That is how it works in IT industry. The pressure is so immense that it takes a toll on people’s physical and mental wellbeing.

And yet, employees go on slogging because they have several obligations to fulfill; these could be repaying home loan or car EMIs or maintaining a certain lifestyle. The fear of not having a job and not being able to pay their EMI on time is horrifying. A lot of managers too want promotions/benefits and take undue advantage of this situation by redirecting more work to their subordinates to make matters worse.

And there is no scope of pushing back and tell your manager: NO. Employees hesitate in talking back to the manager. What if he humiliates me in front of other team members? Or what if the manager wouldn’t give me a good rating. In any case, job opportunities are few and far between. Societal pressure adds to this stress. Being educated and not having a job is looked down upon.

Nevertheless, a positive mindset can help one tide over these choppy waters. I feel that instead of getting bogged down and breaking under pressure, one needs to focus more on personal learnings, give more time to equip oneself with market essential skills and be self-trained. One can always look for better opportunities on the sidelines.

ALSO READ: ‘If Your Job Is Giving You Mental Stress, Dump It’

I must share that all of my friends who got terminated in the last few years were able to land a next job within a few months and they are in a much better place with better salaries. Ruining one’s health or ending life – such as in the case of E&Y employee recently – is really not the solution.

As adults, we need to create a proper work-life balance, take time out for hobbies, go out with our friends and family, keep our professional life separate from our personal life, take proper seven to eight hours of sleep, eat right and indulge in some sports activity… basically live one’s life rather than working like a machine.

There are so many things to do beyond your office. Hit a gym, pick up books on time management, hone you work skills and start investing in various money-saving banking instruments. When you see your money grow, it boosts your confidence. I have friends who have taken retirement from their job as they have enough corpus now and they gradually built a regular SIP (systematic investment plan).

Nepal Flood

Floods, Landslides Kill 60 In Nepal

At least 60 people have died as incessant rainfall batters all across Nepal. The government has deployed more than 20,000 security personnel for the search and rescue operation.

The Kathmandu Valley, comprising Kathmandu, Bhaktapur and Lalitpur alone, recorded 34 deaths in a single day due to water logging and landslides on the slopes. Five different districts of Bagmati Province recorded an additional 19 deaths, while Koshi Province recorded 7 deaths in the past 24 hours.

As per the police, dozens of others are missing across the country, with the rescue operation ongoing with deployment of choppers, motorboats and other possible means.

“In Kathmandu, 11 people are recorded dead while Lalitpur reported 18 and Bhaktapur reported 5 deaths within 24 hours,” SSP Binod Ghimire from Kathmandu Valley Police Office confirmed ANI.

The security agencies- Nepal Army, Armed Police Force (APF) and the Nepal Police rescued 1415 people from various locations of valley.

Nepal Army and Armed Police Force (APF) personnel used the zip-line rescue and long-line rescue techniques to bring stranded people to safer place.

Nepal’s Koshi province CM Hikmat Kumar Karki visited Koshi barrage in Supaul to review the rising water level situation.

“Last evening, we had our dinner at around 8 PM (NST) and slept off. The water started entering our garage after 10:30 PM (NST), few of my friends managed to escape the flash flood and reached to a safer ground. The flood engulfed the area and swept few vehicles, I woke up others and we climbed to the top of the bus, we spent whole night there. The flood eventually swept 5 to 7 vehicles, three motorcycles, and other parts of the vehicle. Staying on the top of the vehicle since last night, we are now rescued in the afternoon by the security forces,” Jitendra Mandal, one of the rescued workers from a garage engulfed by Nakkhu River told ANI after arriving at the shelter.

A total of 75 workers were in the garage built on the embankments of the Nakkhu River in Kusunti of Lalitpur. Security personnel working for hours were able to rescue them using zip-line rescue who are now kept in a school and will be relocated to the safer place later.

Jitendra Mandal, rescued worker in Lalitpur, said, “We were slowly losing our hopes. We thought it’s our last day because the other buses were also gradually being washed away.”

Recalling the ordeal, he said, “The overflowing Nakkhu River burst its embankment trapping dozens of families. A Nepal Army chopper also was called in to rescue workers from a under construction building using the long-line rescue method, only few meters far from the site where Mandal along with his friends were rescued on Saturday afternoon.”

Asked about the total number of people who have been rescued so far, Mukesh Sharaff, one of the rescued workers who managed to escape early, said, “We were a total of 75 people in the garage.” He said, “Till afternoon about 15 of them are there and are being rescued. Rest of the them already has been rescued.”

Influenced by water vapour from the Bay of Bengal and a low-pressure system in the region, Nepal since Thursday evening had been witnessing heavy downpours. The National Disaster Risk Reduction Management Authority (NDRRMA) also issued warning for 56 out of 77 districts about possible disasters advising people to exercise caution.

As of Saturday evening, floods, landslides, inundation and erosion have caused damage in 44 districts across the country, as per the Police. Among them, various road sections of 39 districts have been completely blocked.

As the rain battered the bowl-shaped valley overflowing the rivers, people faced problems in continuing with their day-to-day routine works.

Speaking to ANI, Ram Prasad Ghimire, resident, said, “The spontaneous rainfall in the last two days has impacted people living along the river banks or the river sides of Kathmandu valley. The residential areas within the Kathmandu Valley which lacks proper drainage systems is facing the problem of inundation. I had to travel to altogether four places of Kathmandu but only could reach one of them but couldn’t and was forced to return back home.”

Home to the world’s nine of the ten highest peaks in the world, Nepal this year already had estimated more rain than average and 1.8 million people will be affected by it. The National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Authority (NDRRMA) also had estimated 412 thousand households to be affected by monsoon-related disasters.

The monsoon season in the Himalayan Nation generally begins on June 13. The exit, which was usually on September 23, has been extended to late October. This year, the clouds from the south entered Nepal from the western region on June 10, three days ahead of the usual onset date. Last year, the weather phenomenon started on June 14, a day after the normal onset day.

The monsoon period, which delivers around 80 per cent of the country’s total annual rainfall, generally lasts 105 days. But, in recent years, it has been taking more time to withdraw. Nepal has already recorded above-average rainfall this season.

According to Met Office data, the country received 1,586.3 millimetres of rainfall as of Friday morning since the monsoon entered on June 10, 107.2 percent-7.2 per cent above the average monsoon rainfall.

Normally, Nepal receives an average of 1,472 mm of rainfall in the four months – June, July, August, and September. In 2023, Nepal witnessed only 1,303 mm of rainfall in the season, 88.5 per cent of the average. (ANI)

The Hathras Police registered a separate FIR against DL Public School and its owner Dinesh Bhagel for violating school norms, police officials confirmed on Saturday.

The FIR is registered u/s 211/223/318(3)/318(4) of BNS and u/s 17 and 18 of RTE act at Sahpau police station.

The father of the deceased Kishan Kushwaha said that he has not received any updates on the case from the police.

“This incident is of September 23, since then I haven’t gotten any information from the police, or any other update. Everything I have got to know is through the media itself,” he said.

He also said that according to him this is not a matter of ‘black magic’

“The post mortem report of my child clearly states that he was choked and also a hand was put over his mouth to stop him from breathing. He has been killed mercilessly. We can go, but this report can’t go away,” Kushwaha said.

The father further demanded that the culprits be given the death penalty.

“My child needs justice, so I want quick justice for my child and want the monsters responsible to be given the death penalty,” he added.

Earlier, Hathras Basic Siksha Adhikari (BSA), Swati Bharti, on Friday ordered to close the DL Public School in which an 11-year-old boy was allegedly murdered as part of the ‘black magic ritual’.

Hathras Additional Superintendent of Police, Ashok Kumar Singh, said, “On 23rd September, a student was murdered at the hostel of DL Public School under Sahpau PS. A case was registered under relevant sections on the basis of the statement of the complainant. Five accused, including the owner of the school, have been arrested. They have been sent to judicial custody. Police will take action by investigating all angles.”

The latest FIR has been registered under Section 211, 223, 318(3), 318(4) of Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), said the police.

The school was reportedly being run ‘illegally’ till class 8 while having recognition till class 5 only.

Bharti has also registered a case against the manager of the school on the allegation of murdering the student as part of the black magic for the progress of the school.

Earlier, the mother of the deceased, Kamlesh, grieving the death of her son, said that the bulldozer should be run over the school.

“Bulldozer should be run on the school. There should be a CBI inquiry in the case. The culprits should be hanged,” Kamlesh said.

Additionally, Congress leader Supriya Shrinate had also called for strict action against those involved in the alleged murder of the child.

She expressed concern that the country seems to have regressed in recent years.

“I can’t believe that in the 21st century, 78 years after India’s independence, we are witnessing such things…5 people from school are involved in this incident…we sent our children to school so that they can study and become something, so that they can be safe…there should be strict action against this…now it feels like in the past few years, our country has gone backwards,” Shrinate said. Fawad Khan and Mahira Khan Pakistani film 'The Legend of Maula Jatt'

Fawad-Mahira’s Pak Film ‘The Legend of Maula Jatt’ Release Stalled In India

The Pakistani film ‘The Legend of Maula Jatt’, featuring actors Fawad Khan and Mahira Khan, will not be screened in Indian cinemas, according to sources.

The film was originally scheduled for release on October 2.

The decision has been taken as Indian films have not been permitted in Pakistan since 2019, sources said.

The film was expected to be the first Pakistani release in India in over a decade.

‘The Legend of Maula Jatt’ is a remake of the Pakistani classic film Maula Jatt. The main focus of the movie revolves around the legendary rivalry between Noori Natt, played by Hamza Ali Abbasi, the brutal gang leader, and local hero Maula Jatt, played by Fawad Khan.

The Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) has been particularly vocal against the film’s release.

Earlier this month, Ameya Khopkar, President of the MNS Cinema Wing, said to ANI, “We will not entertain any Pakistani film or actors in India,” urging others across the country to join their opposition. He added, “This movie will not be released. If this happens, there will be a strong agitation.”

Khopkar emphasized the emotional weight behind this stance, citing ongoing tensions at the borders. “Our soldiers are dying… Why do we need Pakistani actors here? Don’t we have enough talent?” he questioned.

“This should be taken as a threat… How can one even think of watching movies with Pakistani actors?” he continued, further asserting that any attempts to bring Pakistani artists into India would be met with strong resistance.

The ban on Pakistani artists in India originated after the Uri terror attack in 2016. Although there have been legal challenges regarding the ban, the Supreme Court dismissed a plea in November 2023 that sought to lift restrictions on Pakistani artists working in India.

Both Fawad Khan and Mahira Khan have previously appeared in Indian films, with Fawad starring in ‘Ae Dil Hai Mushkil’ and ‘Khoobsurat’, and Mahira making her Bollywood debut opposite Shah Rukh Khan in ‘Raees’. (ANI)
