Wolf Attack Victims in bahraich UP

Yogi To Meet Families Of Wolf Attack Victims In Bahraich On Sunday

Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath will visit Bahraich district on Sunday to meet the families affected by the wolf attack.

According to the Chief Minister Office, CM Yogi will also hold a meeting with officials and public representatives.

Meanwhile, forest department officials are putting in all efforts to capture the sixth “killer” wolf under the ‘Operation Bhediya’ campaign that was launched in the State to capture a pack of six wolves that have killed nine people and injured 50 people since July this year.

Divisional Forest Officer (DFO) of Bahraich, Ajit Singh said on Friday, “There was no water in these farms. And it has not been raining, yet water is rising in these farms. So, this has narrowed its (wolf’s) area of movement. Now, we can ask the residents here and find out which areas never get affected by rising water and flood-like situations. And carry out our search operation there.”

On September 13, two women in Mahasi village were injured in an attack allegedly by a wolf.

The two injured were identified as 28-year-old Gudiya, who is a resident of Singhia Nasirpur in Mahasi, and 50-year-old Mukima, who is a resident of Nasarpur in Mahasi.

Earlier on Wednesday, 50-year-old Pushpa Devi was severely injured after the wolf attacked her.

The Uttar Pradesh Forest Department captured the fifth ‘killer’ wolf on September 10, while one wolf remains elusive. The wolves had been behind several attacks on villagers in Bahraich and the Uttar Pradesh Forest Department took the wolf to a rescue shelter.

The Forest Department in Bahraich had installed snap cameras at most of the probable habitats of wolves in the area to monitor any movement by them, which would also help the forest department to learn about the movement of the wolves in order to catch them. (ANI)

Pope Francis on US Elections

Pope Francis Calls US Election ‘Choice of Lesser Evil’

Pope Francis criticised former President Donald Trump and Vice President Kamala Harris over their stance of immigration and abortion respectively, and termed the upcoming US elections as a choice between the “lesser of two evils,” CNN reported.

He described Trump’s stance on immigration and Harris’ support for abortion, rights as contrary to the value of life.”

During a press conference aboard the papal plane, Francis remarked, “One must choose the lesser of two evils. Who is the lesser of two evils? That lady or that gentleman? I don’t know.”

He urged voters to reflect deeply upon their decision.

Notably, Francis has been more outspoken on political matters compared to his predecessors, seeking to make the Catholic Church more inclusive. He has consistently upheld the Church’s position against abortion, viewing it as the intentional ending of human life.

He has also emphasised that this issue should be considered alongside other life-related matters, such as immigration.

“To send migrants away, to leave them wherever you want, to leave them … it’s something terrible, there is evil there. To send away a child from the womb of the mother is an assassination, because there is life. We must speak about these things clearly,” he said.

Previously, Francis presented progressive stances on various political issues, such as permitting priests to forgive abortions, supporting blessings for same-sex couples, and highlighting climate change concerns, as per the report by CNN.

He has also contested the view held by some Catholic bishops in the US who prioritise abortion as the foremost issue, arguing that migrant welfare is equally significant for the protection of life.

In 2016, Francis criticised Trump’s proposal to build a border wall, labelling it “not Christian.”

In 2021, when US bishops debated whether to deny communion to public figures supporting abortion rights, including President Joe Biden, Francis advocated for a “pastoral” rather than a political approach to such decisions. He has maintained that he has never refused communion to anyone.

Francis has also expressed disapproval of couples opting for pets over children, echoing sentiments shared by Trump’s running mate, Sen JD Vance. Vance, a converted Catholic, has disparaged childless women as “childless cat ladies” and criticised the “leadership class” without children as “more sociopathic,” CNN reported.

Opinions vary widely among Christian Catholics. Pew Research shows that 52 per cent of registered Catholic voters identify with or lean towards the Republican Party, while 44 per cent lean Democrat.

In the 2020 election, Catholic voters were nearly evenly split, with 50 per cent supporting Biden and 49 per cent backing Trump. Nevertheless, a majority, 61 per cent, of Catholics believe abortion should be legal in most or all circumstances. (ANI)

PM Modi Rally In Doda: 'Three Families Destroyed Jammu-Kashmir'

PM Modi Rally In Doda: ‘Three Families Destroyed Jammu-Kashmir’

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday said that the upcoming Assembly elections in Jammu and Kashmir will be a fight between “three dynasties” and the youth of the union territory.

He named Congress, National Conference (NC) and People’s Democratic Party (PDP) as the three dynasties whose corrupt practices “hollowed out” and “destroyed” Jammu and Kashmir.

“This year, the elections to Jammu Kashmir assembly are going to be held between th dynasties and the youth of Jammu and Kashmir,” PM Modi said in his first rally in the election bound erstwhile State.

“These three families are responsible for the dire state that J-K was in for decades. They indulged in corruption and made you struggle for your basic needs. These families laid the foundation for terrorism and extremism in the valley. They provided a safe haven for the propagation of terrorism for personal gains,” the Prime Minister said.

“On one side, there are these three dynasties and on the other, my sons and daughters of Jammu and Kashmir. These three dynasties are – the Congress, the National Conference and the PDP. What these three dynasties have together done with you all is nothing less than a sin. These three families prepared the necessary ground for separatism and terrorism here. Who benefitted from it? The enemies of the nation. They were harbouring terrorism so that their shops of millions continue to prosper. They are responsible for ruining Jammu and Kashmir for decades,” PM modi said.

The Prime Minister pledged that his government would make a prosperous Jammu and Kashmir, stating that it was “Modi Ki Guarantee.”

“I can see that our sisters and daughters have come here in big numbers to bless us. I am thankful to you all. I will repay this love and blessings of yours by working twice and thrice as hard for you and the country. Together we will build a safe and prosperous Jammu and Kashmir and this is Modi’s guarantee,” PM Modi said.

The Prime Minister further stated that the assembly elections of Jammu and Kashmir would decide the fate of the Union Territory.

“This time the elections of Jammu and Kashmir is going to decide the fate of J-K. Since independence, our beloved J-K has been targeted by foreign powers. After this, ‘pariwarwad’ started hollowing this beautiful state. The political parties you trusted here did not care about your children. Those political parties only promoted their own children. The youth of J&K have been suffering with terrorism and the parties promoting ‘pariwarwad’ were having fun by misleading you. These people have never allowed new leaders to emerge anywhere in J-K. You also know that panchayat elections were not held here after 2000,” PM Modi said.

He further said that “‘Pariwarwad’ did not allow the youth to come forward and that is why, after coming to power in 2014, I have tried to bring forward the new leadership of the youth in Jammu and Kashmir.”

“In 2018, panchayat elections were held here. In 2019, BDC elections were held and in 2020, DDC elections were held for the first time. Why were these elections held? So that democracy reaches the grassroots level in Jammu and Kashmir,” he said.

The Prime Minister referred to the remark by then Congress’ Home Minister Sushil Kumar Shinde in which he said that he was scared to visit Lal Chowk

“There was a time when there used to be an undeclared curfew after evening. The situation was such that the Union Home Minister used to be scared to visit Lal Chowk,” he said.

PM Modi referred to the changing situation in Jammu and Kashmir in recent years and said that terrorism is at its last breath in Jammu and Kashmir and pointed to the changing scenario of stone pelting incidents and said that the time has arrived for the development of the region.

“Terrorism in Jammu and Kashmir is now breathing its last. The changes seen here in the last 10 years are nothing short of a dream. The stones that were once picked up to be thrown at the police and army are now being used to build a new Jammu and Kashmir,” he said.

The Prime Minister further said that he wants every child in Jammu and Kashmir to have access to a good education.

“Over the past few years, the BJP government has inaugurated various schools and colleges in J&K for the betterment of the youth. The long-standing demand for a medical college in Doda was also fulfilled recently by the BJP government,” he said.

He further said that the BJP’s resolution and support can bring peace, prosperity and security to Jammu and Kashmir.

“Make our candidates win with a huge mandate and ensure a brighter future for everyone in the valley. Any citizen of Jammu and Kashmir, regardless of his religion, region and cultural affiliation, is a priority for the BJP government. I guarantee to safeguard your rights. It’s only the BJP that can reinforce statehood to Jammu and Kashmir.

Earlier, people cheered for PM Modi and gave him a rousing welcome upon his arrival in Doda amidst heightened security.

The elections in Jammu and Kashmir are scheduled for September 18, September 25, and October 1, with counting set for October 8.

The Assembly elections are going to be held on 8 Assembly seats in three districts, Doda, Kishtwar, and Ramban, in the first phase, voting for which will be held on 18 September.

Jammu and Kashmir will witness elections after a gap of ten years, as the last assembly election was held in 2014. Jammu and Kashmir has 90 Assembly constituencies, including 7 reserved for SCs and 9 reserved for STs.

According to the Election Commission of India, Jammu and Kashmir has 88.06 lakh eligible voters.

In the previous Assembly elections, the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) won 28 seats, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) secured 25, the Jammu and Kashmir National Conference (NC) won 15, and the Congress won 12.

The PDP-BJP coalition government fell in June 2018 when the latter withdrew support to the then-Chief Minister, Mehbooba Mufti.

These upcoming elections will be the first in Kashmir since the abrogation of Article 370. (ANI)

Asian Champions HOckey

Asian Champions Hockey: Harmanpreet Helps India Beat Pakistan 2:1

India captain Harmanpreet Singh scored a brace to seal a 2-1 win over arch-rival Pakistan in the ongoing Asian Champions Trophy on Saturday.

The ‘Fultonball’ prevailed over Pakistan in a blockbuster clash, which had its fair share of dramas. Before this outing, India have stamped their dominance over Pakistan, with 16 wins in 25 matches since 2013. The trend continued with Harmanpreet scoring a brace to ensure his side maintained their unbeaten streak in the competition.

With emotions running high in an electric atmosphere, after a failed play of pattern from both sides, Pakistan’s Moin Shakeel had the opportunity to take the first attempt on target. He charged past the Indian defenders but floundered his chance.

Pakistan continued to threaten India’s defence in the first quarter, with Ajaz Ahmad carrying the threat from the right side, but the play concluded without any threat.

Two minutes later, India found themselves trailing for the first time in the tournament after Ahmad Nadeem found the net with ease. The move started with Hannan Shahid carrying the threat in India’s defensive half. A loose effort from India’s defence, allowed Nadeem to slot the ball into the back of the net.

With the first quarter reaching its climax, India tried to build the momentum in their favour and earned a penalty corner. Harmanpreet, the most in-form drag-flicker in the world right now, elegantly placed the ball past the Pakistan goalkeeper, who stood stationary and watched the ball go back into the net. The first quarter ended with the scoreline level at 1-1.

In the early stages of the second quarter, Pakistan found themselves trailing by a goal. Harmanpreet continued to maintain his 100 per cent conversion rate from the penalty corner with another quick flick towards the left of the goalkeeper.

Pakistan’s woes increased after Abu Mahmood suffered a knee injury and left the field on a stretcher. The game resumed, and the tussle for possession began between both sides.

India tried to maintain possession by putting the aerial route to use. However, the lack of accuracy haunted them back in their attempts to maintain possession.

During such an attempt, Jarmanpreet Singh missed the lofted ball and allowed Pakistan to penetrate their defensive half. Pakistan failed to punish India on the counterattack, keeping the scoreline 2-1.

After both teams enjoyed a fair share of chances, the action resumed in the third quarter. India earned a penalty corner after Araijeet dribbled through on goal and was eventually fouled. However, this time Harmanpreet’s flick was effectively dealt away by Pakistan’s defence.

It turned into a back-to-back affair after Pakistan earned a penalty corner on the other end. Jarmanpreet took the defensive duties and blocked Pakistan’s shot with his stick.

Pakistan continued to enjoy a decent spell as they had another opportunity to equalise after earning another penalty corner.

India goalkeeper Krishan Pathak stood tall and made a remarkable double save to keep the Pakistan team at bay. He pushed the ball out with his left hand and then put his body on the line to stop the rebound.

Pakistan’s relentless attack continued and forced Pathak to make another save. Pakistan earned another penalty corner, and the shot took a deflection from the first rusher. Pathak stuck out his right foot to ensure India’s slender one-goal lead remained intact.

Pakistan’s momentum vanished within the blink of an eye following a quick video referral to check serious misconduct. Sufyan tipped Nilkanta Sharma while tackling. As a result, he was shown the yellow card and served a five-minute suspension.

At the end of the third quarter, Pakistan had the opportunity to restore parity with a penalty corner. Without their ace flicker, Sufyan, Pakistan couldn’t produce a decent effort on target. The hooter sounded, bringing an end to an exciting third quarter.

India started the fourth quarter on an attacking note, but Abhishek’s reverse hit sailed over the goalpost. Pakistan regained full strength after Sufyan returned to the turf after serving his suspension.

The drama continued to unfold in an exhilarating contest after Pakistan’s Rana Waheed Ashraf was suspended for 10 minutes after misconduct.

Both teams were reduced to 10 men after India lost Manpreet Singh after he received a 5-minute yellow card. Despite a late setback, India held on to the lead and sealed a 2-1 win over Pakistan. (ANI)

Port Blair Renamed

Port Blair Renamed Sri Vijaya Puram, Athawale Hails Move

Union Minister Ramdas Athawale on Friday welcomed the Centre’s decision to rename Port Blair as Sri Vijaya Puram and said it is a tribute to the freedom struggle.

“Port Blair was the colonial name…The new name Sri Vijaya Puram is to commemorate the freedom struggle. This decision by Amit Shah is a welcome step…We support this step…,” Athawale told ANI.

He also criticised Rahul Gandhi, the Leader of Opposition (LoP) in the Lok Sabha, over his statement against reservation during his recent visit to the United States.

“Rahul Gandhi has been a good friend. I have been associated with him for many years. I was unaware that Rahul Gandhi would speak against reservation during his visit to the United States…His comments have violated the Constitution,” Ramdas Athawale told reporters in Delhi.

On September 9, Rahul Gandhi, said that the Congress party will think of scrapping reservations when India becomes a “fair place,” which it is not. The Congress leader was interacting with students and faculty at Georgetown University in Washington, DC.

Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Friday announced that Andaman and Nicobar Island’s capital, Port Blair, has been renamed as “Sri Vijaya Puram”.

Shah said that the earlier name of the city had a colonial legacy, while the new name symbolises the victory achieved in the freedom struggle.

“Inspired by the vision of PM Narendra Ji, to free the nation from the colonial imprints, today we have decided to rename Port Blair as ‘Sri Vijaya Puram.’ While the earlier name had a colonial legacy, Sri Vijaya Puram symbolises the victory achieved in our freedom struggle and the A&N Islands’ unique role in the same,” the Home Minister posted on X.

“Andaman & Nicobar Islands have an unparalleled place in our freedom struggle and history. The island territory that once served as the naval base of the Chola Empire is today poised to be the critical base for our strategic and development aspirations. It is also the place that hosted the first unfurling of our Tiranga by Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose Ji and also the cellular jail in which Veer Savarkar Ji and other freedom fighters struggled for an independent nation,” he added. flight hijacked in 1984 Jaishankar

Jaishankar Recalls Father’s 1984 Flight Hijack

External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar on Friday spoke about the ‘IC 814: The Kandahar Hijack’ Netflix web series and revealed that his father was a passenger on a flight hijacked in 1984, and notably, Jaishankar himself was part of the team that handled the crisis.

The remarks by Jaishankar came while he was interacting with the Indian community in Geneva.

He said, “I haven’t seen the film, so I don’t want to comment. But I tell you something interesting which you may remember. In 1984, there was a hijack… I was a very young officer. I was part of the team that was dealing with it. After 3-4 hours of the hijacking, I rang up my mother to tell her that I can’t come, there’s a hijacking. I discovered that my father was on that flight. The flight ended up in Dubai. Fortunately, nobody got killed but it could have ended up wrongly.”

The EAM further called the incident “interesting,” and said that on the one hand, he was part of the official team working to resolve the crisis, while on the other hand, he was also part of the affected families who were pressing the government for action. “It was interesting because on one hand, I was part of that team which was working on the hijacking and on the other hand, I was part of the family members who were pressing the government on hijacking…,” Jaishankar said.

Notably, the ‘IC 814: The Kandahar Hijack’ series, is based on the true story of the 1999 hijacking of the IC 814 Indian Airlines flight. The six-episode series is based on the events of December 24, 1999, when an Indian Airlines flight IC 814 en route to Delhi from Kathmandu was hijacked after taking off from the Kathmandu Tribhuvan International Airport in Nepal shortly after it entered Indian airspace.

Meanwhile, the PIL seeking direction to ban Netflix’s series “IC 814 The Kandahar Hijack” was withdrawn from the Delhi High Court on September 6. The petitioner, through counsel, stated that Netflix’s addition of a disclaimer clarifies the real names of the terrorists involved in the hijacking and addresses the concerns raised in the PIL.

Recently, the PIL was moved by Surjit Singh Yadav, Chief of Hindu Sena, to seek a ban on Netflix’s series, namely “IC 814 The Kandahar Hijack.” The PIL alleged that the series distorts the actual identities of the terrorists involved in the hijacking.

The petitioner through Advocate Shashi Ranjan has approched the court against the television miniseries “IC 814: The Kandahar Hijack,” directed by Anubhav Sinha, citing inaccuracies in its portrayal of the 1999 hijacking of Indian Flight 814.

The petition claimed that the miniseries erroneously assigns Hindu names such as “Bhola” and “Shankar”–names associated with Lord Shiva–to the real hijackers Ibrahim Akhtar, Shahid Akhtar Sayeed, Sunny Ahmed Qazi, Zahoor Mistry, and Shakir. (ANI)
