SRK’s Host Avatar To Rekha’s Performance: IIFA 2024

In just two days, Abu Dhabi, the capital of the United Arab Emirates, will be indulged in the euphoric spirit of Indian cinema, courtesy IIFA 2024.

The new edition of the International Indian Film Academy Awards (IIFA) will take place in the Arab city from September 27 to September 29.

The three-day gala is set to kick-start with IIFA Utsavam, an event dedicated to southern film industries- Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam and Kannada. Megastar Chiranjeevi will be honoured at the event.

On the second day, stars like Shah Rukh Khan, Vicky Kaushal and Karan Johar will come on stage to entertain the audience with their hosting stint at the IIFA Awards night.

Excited to host IIFA, SRK earlier said, “IIFA is a celebration of Indian cinema that resonates across the globe and being a part of its journey over the years has been amazing. I look forward to bringing the energy, passion, and grandeur of IIFA to life once again, as we gear up for an unforgettable celebration of Indian cinema this September.”

Karan Johar also shared his excitement and deep personal connection with IIFA, saying, “For more than two decades, IIFA has been a defining part of my journey. My father, with his extensive industry experience and vision, was a significant member of IIFA’s advisory board in its early years, contributing to its mission of celebrating Indian cinema. His association with IIFA was a source of immense pride, further cementing our family’s deep connection with the Indian film industry and its international outreach. It’s an absolute honour to reignite the magic on the iconic IIFA stage for an unprecedented third showcase this September alongside my dear friend Shah Rukh Khan.”

Recently, SRK and Karan were seen together IIFA pre event in Mumbai, where the duo displayed their fun bond.

The duo engaged in some light-hearted banter when SRK teased Karan for hosting more chat shows and focusing less on films. Shah Rukh shared that Karan told him that he wouldn’t be available for the rehearsals and planning to do it over Zoom as he is good at hosting shows.

“Karan told me he won’t be rehearsing for hosting, he’ll do it on Zoom. He said, ‘Bhai main Zoom pe kar lunga… main itna jaldi karta hu. Main toh itna hosting karta hu na.’ Chat show bhi host karta hai, film show bhi host karta hai… picture bhi toh bana mere bhai tu (make films also),'” said SRK in a light-hearted way, adding, “Kitna host karega tu.”

Karan agreed and shared, ” I was thinking the same when Siddhant (Chaturvedi) said the same thing, I was like this is sounding so wrong on all levels for a filmmaker. I should be making more movies. That is exactly what I should be doing,” said the filmmaker, who also hosts the popular celebrity chat show ‘Koffee With Karan’.

SRK and Karan worked on several films together including ‘Kuch Kuch Hota Hai’, ‘Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham…’, ‘My Name is Khan’, and ‘Kabhi Alvida Naa Kehna’.

Interestingly, the second day will see Rekha returning to the IIFA stage after a long time.

Rekha last performed at the IIFA in 2018. From ‘Pyaar Kiya Toh Darna Kya’ to ‘Salam-E-Ishq Meri Jaan,’ she left everyone smitten with her ‘adaa’. She was joined by stars like Ranbir Kapoor, Riteish Deshmukh, Varun Dhawan, Kartik Aaryan and Karan Johar on the stage.

On her upcoming act, Rekha in a note shared by the IIFA team, said, “IIFA holds a special place in my heart, representing not just a celebration of Indian cinema but a vibrant fusion of art, culture, and love on a global stage. It feels like home – a beautiful showcase where the magic of Indian cinema truly comes alive, and I’ve had the privilege of experiencing that magic first-hand over the years.”

Shahid Kapoor, Kriti Sanon, Ananya Panday, Janhvi Kapoor and Vicky will also add chaar chand to the gala night with their performances.

Siddaramaiah MUDA

Bengaluru Court Directs K’taka Lokyukta To Investigate Siddaramaiah In MUDA Scam

Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah on Wednesday put up a brave face after a Special Court in Bengaluru passed an order directing Karnataka Lokyukta to conduct an investigation against him on the alleged MUDA land allotment scam.

“It has come to my attention through the media that the Special Court for Elected Representatives has ordered an investigation by the Mysuru Lokayukta. I will provide a detailed response after reviewing the full copy of the order. I am ready to face the investigation and continue the legal fight. As I said yesterday, I repeat today: there is no question of fearing an investigation; I am determined to face everything. After discussing with legal experts, I will decide the next course of action,” the Karnataka CM said in a post on X.

The allegation against Siddaramiah was that Mysuru Urban Development Authority illegally allotted 14 sites worth Rs 56 crore to his wife Parvathi.

Karnataka Lokayukta’s Mysuru district police will have to conduct the investigation and will submit its report in three months. The Special Court’s order came after the Karnataka High Court on Tuesday vacated its interim stay order granted on August 19 directing the court to defer the decision on the complaints against Siddaramaiah.

The order came on the petition of social activist Snehamayi Krishna.

“FIR will have to be registered as per the order. Mysuru Lokayukta jurisdiction will register an FIR and do the investigation,” Advocate Vasant Kumar, representing petitioner activist Snehamayi Krishna told reporters.

“The Chief Minister must resign so the Lokayukta can investigate transparently,” he added.

Advocate Laxmi Ayengar, another lawyer representing Snehamayi Krishna expressed happiness over the Special Court order.

“Extremely happy about the order. Now we have to wait for the Lokayukta to get going on the investigation, waiting for them to register FIR and get started…The Court has ordered the Lokayukta, if they do their duty fairly, I don’t think there would be any necessity on our part to seek for a transfer. But if the Lokayukta does not act and it doesn’t seem fair, then we would definitely move the Court seeking for a transfer investigation. But at this time, no,” she told reporters.

The Karnataka High Court on Tuesday dismissed Siddaramaiah’s petition challenging Governor Thaawarchand Gehlot’s approval for an investigation into alleged illegalities in the Mysuru Urban Development Authority’s (MUDA) allotting sites to his wife.

In his judgment, the single judge bench of Justice Nagaprasanna said that the order of sanction for prosecution does not suffer from non-application of mind by the Governor.

It is alleged that MUDA illegally allotted 14 sites to Chief Minister Siddaramaiah’s wife in the prime location of Mysuru city. The High Court, in its interim order passed on August 19, had granted a temporary relief to Siddaramaiah by directing a special court in Bengaluru to defer further proceedings and not to take any precipitative action pursuant to the sanction granted by the Governor. Kangana Ranaut's recent remarks on the farm laws

Kangana Retracts Remark On Farm Laws After Party Distances Itself From Comment

A day after the Bhartiya Janata party distanced itself from Kangana Ranaut’s recent remarks on the farm laws, the actor-turned politician on Wednesday issued a public apology and expressed “regret” over her statement.

Mandi Lok Sabha MP Kangana Ranaut had suggested that the three farm laws that were repealed following prolonged farmer protests should be brought back.

The actor-turned-politician was quoted as saying, “I know this statement could be controversial, but the three farm laws should be brought back. Farmers themselves should demand it.”

After the BJP stated that her comments were “not authorized”, Kangana retracted her remarks and issued an apology. She added that moving forward, she will ensure her views align with the party’s stance rather than representing her personal opinions.

“When farmers laws were proposed, a lot of people came out in support of them, but with a lot of sensitivity, our Prime Minister retracted those laws, so it is the responsibility of all the workers of his party to respect his words. I will also have to keep one thing in mind that now I am not an artist but a BJP worker. My opinions will not just be mine but will represent the party’s stand. So if I have hurt anyone’s sentiments with my thoughts, I regret it and take my words back,” Kangana said in a self made video, posted on X.

This comes a day after BJP spokesperson Gaurav Bhatia in a statement on Tuesday, said the remarks are “personal statement” of Ranauat and doesn’t depict BJP’s view on farm bills.

“On the social media platforms, BJP MP Kangana Ranaut’s statement on the farm bills that was withdrawn by central govt, is going viral. I want to make it clear that this statement is a personal statement of her,” Bhatia said.

“Kangana Ranaut is not authorised to make such a statement on behalf of the BJP, and it doesn’t depict the BJP’s view on the farm bills. We disapprove of this statement,” he added.

The Mandi MP has drawn ire over her remarks on farm laws. Punjab Congress President Amarinder Singh Raja criticised the actor, calling her “habitually controversial.”

“I think she is mentally unstable. Some people are accustomed to creating controversy, and the BJP benefits from her statements. She talks about farmers, Punjab, the Emergency, and Rahul Gandhi. There are other MPs who never make such remarks,” the Congress leader said.

Last month, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) distanced itself from Mandi MP Kangana Ranaut’s statement about the farmers’ agitation and also asked the actor-turned-politician to refrain from giving such statements in the future. (ANI)

Rahul Must Focus On Jammu: Omar Abdullah's Advice To Ally Congress

Rahul Must Focus On Jammu: Omar Abdullah’s Advice To Ally Congress

In a pointed remark aimed at its alliance partner Congress party, which is contesting elections in Jammu and Kashmir alongside the National Conference, Omar Abdullah urged Rahul Gandhi to wrap up campaigning in Kashmir and shift his focus towards Jammu.

He emphasized that the party should prioritize Jammu, where it holds the majority of seats, instead of solely campaigning in Kashmir.

“I hope after Rahul is done campaigning in one or two seats in Kashmir, he focuses in Jammu. Ultimately what the Congress does in Kashmir is not important. What the Congress does in Jammu is important. Unfortunately, Congress hasn’t done as much in the plains of Jammu as we would expect them to do. The lion’s share of the seats that the alliance gave in Jammu was to the Congress party. Yet, the Congress’ campaign in Jammu is yet to begin and there are only five days of campaigning. I hope once Rahul is done campaigning in this one seat in the valley, the Congress focuses all it’s attention in the plains of Jammu.”,” Abdullah said.

The Congress party, in alliance with the National Conference, is competing for 32 seats, while the NC is vying for 51 of the 90 Assembly seats.

JKNC vice president Omar Abdullah is contesting from Ganderbal and Budgam assembly seats, both of which have gone to polls today. Abdullah is fielded against PDP’s Bashir Ahmed Mir and Aga Muntazir Mehdi from Ganderbal and Budgam respectively.

“We have been waiting for ten years. The first phase went well, we expect a good turnout from the second phase also, the enthusiasm has been heartening, hope it turns out into voter turnout also,” Abdullah said while speaking to ANI.

Commenting on the Indian Government’s invitation to foreign diplomats to witness peaceful elections in Jammu-Kashmir, Abdullah said, “I dont know why foreigners need to check elections. When they comment on certain things, the Indian government says it is an internal matter. Now these elections are an internal matter”

Tageting the Centre, Abdullah said that the participation witnessed in the Jammu-Kashmir elections is not because of the Government of India. He said that it is inspite of what they did.

“They have humiliated people, they have used all the machinery to harass people, so its not something they need to be highlighting,” Abdullah added.

Cornering the PDP, Abdullah said that the party would be lucky to even win from Bijbehara, a small town in the Anantnag district of South Kashmir.

Addressing allegations of bogus voting in Ganderbal, Abdullah countered criticisms from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), saying, “I can’t help if their candidates have not been able to make the impact that they expected. It’s not my fault that people have come out in my favor. PDP was very happy to receive support from the Apni Party in Budgam until Mohiuddin Muntazir Sahab went against his party and announced his support for me. Then PDP got upset. Forget about Budgam and Ganderbal, they’ll be lucky to even win in Bijbehara”

Voting for the second phase of Assembly elections in Jammu and Kashmir began on Wednesday morning. Over 25 lakh eligible voters will seal the fate of 239 candidates across 26 constituencies in six districts of the Union Territory.

Among the prominent candidates are former Chief Minister of Jammu and Kashmir and National Conference vice president Omar Abdullah from both Budgam and Ganderbal seats, Jammu and Kashmir BJP chief Ravinder Raina from Nowshera assembly seat and Pradesh Congress Committee president Tariq Hamid Karra from Central-Shalteng seat.

The last phase of polls will be held on October 1 and counting of votes will be held on October 8. (ANI)

Make in India" Piyush Goyal

Piyush Goyal Celebrates 10 Years Of ‘Make in India’

On Wednesday the Union Government marked 10 years of the flagship “Make in India” scheme. Celebrating the schemes success, Union Minister of Commerce and Industry Piyush Goyal said that the world is now looking to India as a manufacturing destination.

In an exclusive virtual interaction with ANI from Adelaide, the Union Minister said, “It is a story of lost decade vs last decade. 2004 to 2014 India went to despondency, investor interest was shattered, and corruption became the order of the day so much so that an environment clearance was not possible during the Congress government. The economy, foreign exchange reserves and growth were down, the rupee fell, and inflation was high. People had given up on India. Even domestic investments were stalled…In that scenario PM Modi took charge in 2014 and the last decade has been where the macro-economic fundamentals have been made strong- startup India, one district one product, 20 new industrial smart cities, reduction of compliance burden…Improvement in our ease of doing business ranking, promoting technology, and innovation. It is been a holistic approach in partnership with private sectors both in India & internationally…Today the world looks up at India as a manufacturing destination.”

Goyal further added that the good governance provided by PM Narendra Modi has restored the confidence of both domestic and foreign investors. Under PM Modi the government is supercharged to get into the next decade and become a manufacturing superpower for the world.

“PM Modi had focused on Atmanirbhar Bharat and we are focused on those products where our import dependency was high to promote the manufacturing and domestic availability of those products. We believe that international trade is important and very often necessary because every country has their own competitive comparative advantages. Imports per se are not bad. We are looking at a larger engagement with the world both with imports and exports. So that products where we have the edge we are able to make and sell across the world. If there is a product that we import there are two reasons one is they may not have the raw material or we may not be competitive in that. The other is rapidly increasing domestic demand,” he said.

The minister asserted that skilling, reskilling and upskilling initiatives of the government will benefit the youth in the coming years. This will not only create jobs but also create new entrepreneurs who can provide jobs and adds to the country’s growth.

“Manufacturing is giving a huge impetus to job creation. You see the Apple story now the Apple i-16 made in India is launched in India. And who makes them? Women working in the Chennai factory in Tamil Nadu. When we used to import air conditioners, we never knew we could become a global manufacturer of air conditioners and a potential exporter of air conditioning equipment. We are now a 50% domestic value-added industry in air conditioners. With four compressor plants coming up India will soon become an exporter of air conditioners…Manufacturing creates jobs and an ecosystem which creates entrepreneurs and provides jobs to young men and women. As manufacturing grows there are jobs created in setting up factories, housing for the people, building infrastructure, and logistics…The critics can keep crying hoarse.

The minister said the policies of the government in the past 10 years, have made India’s exports increase significantly post-COVID both in merchandise and services.

“The world recognises the scale at which you can produce an export from India is mind-boggling and the competitiveness of the costing of the product is also very attractive. India offers domestic demand and with domestic demand large scale, we become competitive in other nations. I am very confident that this thrust given to export including making districts as export hubs will hold India in good stead. We are seeing newer and newer destinations for our export goods, we are seeing our agriculture & marine exports grow up dramatically. Thanks to the production link incentive schemes we are now seeing mobile phones grow so much so that the electronics is the third-largest export sector from India,” Goyal said.

Earlier on Wednesday Piyush Goyal met with Don Farrell, Minister of Trade and Tourism, Australia. Both the nations reiterated the commitment to partner with each other to provide a bouquet of opportunities for businesses, to leverage the full potential of our economic relationship. (ANI)

Union Railway Minister Ashwini

10,000 Rail Engines To Be Covered By Kavach Protection Device: Minister

Union Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw on Tuesday inspected the Kavach 4.0 in Rajasthan and said that Kavach 4.0 has started for the first time in India from Sawai Madhopur, adding that in the coming years, 10 thousand locomotives will be covered by Kavach.

Earlier today, the Union Railway Minister addressed concerns regarding passenger safety in light of the recent stone-pelting incidents on trains. The Minister assured that strict action will be taken anyone involved in incidents of stone pelting on trains.

“The whole railway staff is fully aware and in touch with the state governments, including state DGPs and Home Secretaries. Strict action will be taken against anyone involved in such incidents,” Vaishnaw stated during a media briefing.

The Minister emphasised that the Railways are continuously collaborating with the state police forces to enhance safety measures.

“The whole railway staff is fully aware and in touch with the state governments. State DGPs, Home Secretaries. Whoever will be involved in such incidents, strict action will be taken against them. The whole railway is continuously working in this direction along with the state police,” Union Railway Minister said while speaking to the media.
