Tata Sons Chairman N Chandrasekaran first C295 aircraft

Tata Aircraft’s Vadodara Plant To Deliver First Aircraft In 2026: Chairman Tata Sons

Tata Sons Chairman N Chandrasekaran on Monday said that the TATA Aircraft Complex, built in partnership with Airbus, aims to deliver its first C295 aircraft within the next two years.

“Exactly after two years from now, we will deliver the first indigenously manufactured C-295 Aircraft,” Tata Sons Chairman said in his address at the inauguration of the TATA Aircraft Complex for manufacturing C295 military transport aircraft in Vadodara in Gujarat.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi and his Spanish counterpart Pedro Sanchez inaugurated the country’s first private military transport aircraft production plant here today.

Chandrasekaran emphasised, “This is a very, very important day for India and Indian defence sector. We will deliver the first aircraft in next two years. This project will propel India into the next generation of advanced manufacturing. It will build a diverse and sophisticated skills ecosystem, as well as a very strong supply of base, more importantly, give a lot of high tech opportunities for our entrepreneurs and youth.”

The facility marks a significant step forward in India’s defence manufacturing capabilities and exemplifies the “Make in India” initiative, providing a new impetus for the country to emerge as a global hub for aerospace production.

Chandrasekaran credited the visionary leadership of Ratan Tata for conceiving the project over a decade ago in 2012.

He said, “I will fail in my duty if I forget to mention that this project was originally conceived more than a decade ago, in 2012, by the then Tata Sons Chairman, Ratan Tata Ji, who led the whole concept to build a relationship with Airbus and created this partnership with Airbus and laid the foundation stone for this opportunity.”

He added, “So I would like to remember him for his visionary leadership in this very path-breaking initiative. It is a historic moment not only for the Tata Group but also for India.”

Chandrasekaran said tha the first 200 engineers from Tata Group are already in Spain going through the training that is required. “We have worked with 40 SME companies and we will be adding more companies to build the entire localisation that is required for the product…,” he said.

Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez also addressed the gathering, praising the collaboration between Tata and Airbus as an extraordinary example of partnership.

He said, “Prime Minister Modi, this is your vision to turn India into an industrial powerhouse. This partnership between Airbus and TATA will contribute to the progress of the Indian aerospace industry, and will open new doors for the arrival of other European companies.”

He added, “This project brings together the best of two worlds. Tata is probably the best exponent of Indian industrial strength. It is a giant among giants. If Indian companies want to grow they can trust Spain companies.”

Highlighting the synergy between Indian and Spanish industries, he described Tata as “a giant among giants” and the best representative of Indian industrial strength.

He said, “Airbus opens a new chapter, patterning with India’s Defence and Space industry, this project strengthens our industrial ties while underlying our country’s deep commitment as a reliable and esoteric partner, and it shows as well the capabilities of the Spanish defence industry, with its world-class expertise and its well earned international reputation.”

He added, “Today, we’re taking another step forward, a strategic step focused on a key industrial and technological field, the presence of Spanish companies in India and Indian companies in Spain is growing. This growing presence is based on a few pillars, long-term vision, the search for reliable partners, and the commitment to develop Industries at the local level, to create jobs and wealth across all the territory.” (ANI)

Priyanka Gandhi BJP MODI

Wayanad Makes Me Feel Home: Priyanka

Congress leader and party candidate Priyanka Gandhi Vadra who arrived here on Monday for the election campaigns and spoke to the people.

Speaking to the people, Vadra remembered an incident that had occurred with her when she had come to file her nomination and how it made her feel that Wayanad made her feel like she had a mother.

“A few days ago, when I had come to file my nomination for the UDF candidate, I had stopped my car and talked to one of the people who told me that his mother wanted to meet me but wasn’t well. I had gone to the house of the person and met his mother. She hugged me as if I was her child, and hugged me like my mother. That is how Wayanad makes me feel like I already have a mother,” she said.

Further, she narrates how her visit to Wayanad during the landslide made her realize how a community could come together to help people.

“When I came here with my brother after the landslides, I understood how a community came together to help people. I saw each one of you help each other. Even the youngest kids who lost their families had dignity. You are courageous and you honor the teachings of all religions. How can I not be the proudest person to get an opportunity to represent Wayanad,” she said.

Vadra further spoke on how there were several issues in the state from the needs of the tribal community to MSP of crops, the tourism industry, and unemployment.

Speaking on the same, she said “With these conversations with the people here, I am going to understand the issues faced by you. I understand what my responsibility is. I know you are here because of the love for my brother and I was sad too when he had to leave you all. Today, we are fighting a big battle for the values of our constitution, democracy, and equality.”

Vadra added that it was the right time to stand for democracy and truth.

“If there is a time to stand up for democracy for the right and the truth, it is now. My expectations are not any lakh number of votes, but it is to look within your heart,” she concluded.

Congress party approved Priyanka Gandhi’s candidature on October 15, after the bypoll schedule was announced by the Election Commission of India.

Wayanad will go to the polls on November 13 along with voting for bye-elections in 47 assembly seats across 15 states. The first phase of assembly polls in Jharkhand will also be held on November 13. (ANI)

Delhi Haze Gives Me Wheezing Breath Inflamed Eyes

‘Delhi Haze Gives Me Wheezing Breath, Inflamed Eyes, Sore Throat’

Sheela Singh, a Delhi resident, expresses her anguish and helplessness over the polluted air and smog that engulfs Delhi every winter. Her story:

As the haze settles back over Delhi, a familiar dread washes over me. I am 69 years old. For as long as I can remember, Delhi has been my home, but these last few years, I feel like the very air that I once breathed so freely has turned against me. From October to January, it’s the worst. The city I love becomes a gas chamber, and I’m left struggling to do something as basic as breathing.

I have had asthma for years, but it is the pollution that has made things unbearable. The moment I step outside, the smog hits me. It’s like someone is squeezing my lungs, making it nearly impossible to breathe. My chest feels heavy, my throat itches, and there’s a constant wheeze in my breath. Even walking a few steps makes me stop to catch my breath. It’s not living—it’s just surviving.

I spend most of my time indoors during these months, but even inside, the air isn’t clean. We close the windows, we run air purifiers, but it’s never enough. The pollution still seeps in. I rely on my inhaler far too often, and it’s frightening to think that this might become the norm for me.

What really scares me, though, is how this isn’t just about me. My granddaughter is only 10 years old, and I worry constantly about what kind of future she will have if things don’t change. She should be outside playing, breathing clean air, but instead, she’s trapped inside with me, unable to enjoy her childhood. What kind of world are we leaving for her? Sometimes I lie awake at night, not just because I can’t breathe, but because I can’t shake the worry for her future.

The worst part is that every year, the same thing happens. The government talks, and politicians point fingers, but nothing really changes. Every time the air gets worse, we hear about stubble burning or vehicle emissions, but where are the real solutions? Just today, I read a report from the ex-director of AIIMS in Delhi, and what he said made my blood run cold. He said more people might die from air pollution than from COVID-19. Can you imagine? A pandemic that brought the world to its knees, and yet the air we breathe could be even deadlier.

It’s not just Delhi anymore either. The entire NCR region is now choking, and even the areas connected to it are feeling the effects. The smoke from stubble burning travels miles, and every year we face the same problem. There’s so much talk, but where’s the action? Why is nothing being done to fix this? Why are we still trapped in this cycle of blame and inaction?

I’m tired. I’m tired of living like this, constantly worrying about whether today’s air will be too dangerous to breathe. I’m tired of being afraid to step outside. And most of all, I’m tired of watching my granddaughter grow up in a world where clean air is becoming a luxury, not a right.

I remember a time when things weren’t this bad. When Delhi was still a city I could enjoy it without fear. Now, it feels like I’m suffocating in the place I’ve called home for so long. I don’t want to leave, but sometimes I wonder how much longer I can go on like this. How much more can my lungs take?

All I want is for things to change—for my granddaughter to grow up in a world where she can run around outside without worrying about what she’s breathing. But until that happens, I’ll keep fighting this battle with every breath I take, hoping that someday, the haze will finally lift.

Delhi’s Air Quality Worsens, People Feel Suffocated

The air quality deteriorated in the national capital on Sunday, with the Air Quality Index (AQI) being recorded at 352, in the ‘very poor’ category, according to System of Air Quality and Weather Forecasting And Research (SAFAR). This is worse than the average AQI recorded at 255 on Saturday, categorized as ‘poor’.

Moreover, AQI in Anand Vihar area crossed the 400 mark, being recorded as 405 at 7 AM, categorized as ‘severe’, worse than the AQI of 367 recorded on Saturday.

AQI at the Akshardham Temple deteriorated 261, whereas IGI airport recorded an AQI of 324, both categorized as ‘very poor.’

As the festival of lights nears, the Delhi government has also banned firecrackers till January 1 amid efforts to curb pollution levels.

Moreover, toxic foam on the Yamuna river in the Kalindi Kunj area persisted. Earlier the pollution in the river became a topic of hot political debate between the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), with BJP leader Shazia Ilmi criticizing the Delhi government for its handling of the city’s worsening pollution crisis, highlighting the alarming presence of toxic foam in the River Yamuna and the resulting breathing difficulties for residents.

“BJP leader Virendraa Sachdeva has fallen ill. Two days ago he took a dip in the Yamuna river. Today he is admitted to the hospital…This is an issue connected to the health of the public of Delhi. Where have the Rs 3000 crore meant for the public of Delhi and Yamuna river?… The public of Delhi is not able to breathe…Toxic foam is floating on the Yamuna River,” Ilmi told ANI.

Notably, Delhi environment minister Gopal Rai criticsed the BJP, accusing it of contributing to the increasing pollution in the national capital.

“The BJP is the party that creates pollution and seems to believe that only drama can solve it. I think all governments and parties need to work together. I wish them good health, but stopping these theatrics alone won’t reduce pollution. This reflects the BJP leaders’ level of understanding. When I was preparing the winter action plan, I had written to the BJP President, but no response or suggestions have come so far,” he told ANI. (ANI)

Modi-Xi Talks At BRICS Summit

The Modi-Xi Talks Could Be The Real Takeaway From BRICS Summit

In the midst of two extreme views about the recently concluded BRICS summit at Kazan in Russia–first, that it represented the forging of a new world order to challenge the West; and the second (quite opposite to the first), that it meant no more than mere optics–was a sobering statement by  India’s Prime Minister Narendra Modi that really stood out. Modi said: “We must be careful to ensure that this organisation does not acquire the image of one that is trying to replace global institutions, instead of being perceived as one that wishes to reform them.”

In 2009, when the inter-governmental organisation was first formed, it was BRIC, the acronym comprising the first letters of the founding nations, Brazil, Russia, India, and China. Early on in its existence, South Africa joined, and it became BRICS.

Now, 15 years later, BRICS includes Iran, Egypt, UAE, and Ethiopia. Saudi Arabia is still officially to join but attends meetings. In addition, there are a host of countries that want to join BRICS. Notable among them is Turkey but at last count there were at least 50 countries, representing every continent barring North America, queuing up to join.

As of now, BRICS represents about 45% of the world’s population. This is in comparison to the Group of Seven (G7), which represents about 10% of the world’s population. BRICS members account for over 16% of the world’s trade, 24% of the world’s GDP, and 29.3% of the world’s land surface.

No wonder that BRICS is viewed by many, including some of its prominent members, as being a challenger to the power of the West, which is led by the US and its allies. Some of the optics of this year’s summit, for instance, demonstrated that.

For one, it was Vladimir’s Putin’s show. Declared a pariah by the West and facing massive sanctions in the wake of Russia’s continuing war against Ukraine, Putin used the Kazan summit to show that he still enjoyed the support of powerful world leaders such as China’s Xi Jingping and India’s Modi. If the West wanted to isolate him, Putin used the summit to show that he wasn’t and that he had the support of a large block of nations.

Some analysts believe BRICS, whose membership is burgeoning, could become a counterweight to the West and challenge its hegemony in geopolitics through a movement that unites the developing world and is led by China, Russia, and India.

On the flipside, however, are people who think that such a movement is still a far cry. They argue that the BRICS nations have too many differences between each other for them to coalesce into a bloc that could challenge the West’s dominance.

Consider that although China and Russia share a bond and Xi and Putin have a rapport, China is wary of the fact that North Korea has sent in troops to fight for Russia in its conflict with Ukraine. China is apprehensive that this could lead to troubles that it could have with its belligerent neighbour with which it has a 1400-km border.

Iran, a new member of the BRICS grouping brings in yet another set of concerns as it hurtles towards a full-on confrontation with Israel because several BRICS members have differing stances on the ongoing conflict in the Middle East. India, for instance, continues to supply military aid to Israel in its fight against Hamas and Hezbollah, both beneficiaries of Iran’s support.

Then there is India’s own decades-long border dispute with China. Recently, just before the Kazan summit, China and India reached an accord on joint patrolling along a disputed territorial line in the northeastern part of India. And, on the sidelines of the Kazan summit, Modi and Xi had a bilateral summit after years. While no concrete solutions emerged at that meeting, there is hope that this could be a move towards the thawing of relations between the two countries.

In fact, if there has been any real outcome of the BRICS Kazan summit, Modi’s talks with Xi could be the only thing of consequence.

The border dispute between the two most populous countries in the world has disrupted trade and cooperation between the two giant economies (China is the second largest economy in the world; and India is the fifth largest). If a detente and rapprochement can be reached between the two, they could help BRICS emerge as a global economic force to reckon with.

If that happens, then the hypothesis of the BRICS bloc’s ability to act as a counterweight to the West could gather real momentum.
