ICC CT 2025 To Be Held In Pakistan And Neutral Venue

The men’s ICC Champions Trophy will be played across Pakistan and a neutral venue, announced the International Cricket Council (ICC) on Thursday. The same rule will also be applicable to all the ICC events held by India and Pakistan during the 2024-27 rights cycle.

A statement from ICC on Thursday said, “India and Pakistan matches hosted by either country at ICC Events during the 2024-2027 rights cycle will be played at a neutral venue,” the ICC Board confirmed on Thursday.

This will apply to the upcoming ICC Men’s Champions Trophy 2025 (hosted by Pakistan), set to be played in February and March 2025, as well as the ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup 2025 (hosted by India) and the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026 (hosted by India and Sri Lanka), as per ICC.

It was also announced that the PCB has been awarded hosting rights of the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup in 2028, where neutral venue arrangements will also apply.

Cricket Australia is set to host one of the senior ICC women’s events during the period 2029 to 2031.

The schedule for the ICC Champions Trophy 2025 is set to be confirmed soon, with Pakistan aiming to defend the title they won in 2017, beating India in the final.

The eight-team event will feature Afghanistan, Australia, Bangladesh, England, India, New Zealand, and South Africa, alongside hosts Pakistan.

Due to strained political relations between the two nations, India has not toured Pakistan since 2008, when they participated in the Asia Cup. The two arch-rivals last played a bilateral series in 2012-13 in India, comprising white-ball matches. After that, India and Pakistan have primarily faced each other in ICC tournaments and Asia Cups. Punjab: Cotton Growers Raise Concerns Over Falling Prices Amid Declining Production

Local cotton growers and ginners of Punjab province of Pakistan have raised serious concerns over the steep decline in domestic cotton prices and sales, despite a substantial decrease in overall production.

According to the Dawn, the experts attribute this troubling trend to the record-high imports of cotton from international markets.

The Pakistan Cotton Ginners Association (PCGA) reported that by December 15, the total amount of ginned cotton in the country reached 5.36 million bales, marking a 33 per cent decrease compared to the same period last year.

The Dawn reported that the production declines were more pronounced in the major cotton-producing provinces, with Punjab and Sindh experiencing reductions of 34 per cent and 32 per cent, respectively.

The report further indicated that textile mills have bought just 4.7 million bales during this period, a 34 per cent decrease compared to the previous year. Additionally, exports have dropped dramatically by 84 per cent, falling to 46,300 bales.

Ihsanul Haq, chairman of the Cotton Ginners Forum, pointed out that despite a 33 per cent drop in cotton production, ginning factories in the country currently have around 6.14 million bales in stock, similar to last year. He attributed this to the zero sales tax on imported cotton and yarn, while domestic purchases are taxed at 18 per cent. As a result, textile mill owners are increasingly importing cotton and yarn during the 2024-25 cotton year.

According to the Dawn, official data shows that by November 30, Pakistan had imported 182,000 metric tonnes (about 11.38 million bales) of cotton, with a large portion of these imports occurring in October and November. During the same period, approximately 6,00,000 bales worth of yarn were also imported.

Experts predict that Pakistan will import between 55 and 60 million bales of cotton or cotton yarn this year, leading to a substantial outflow of foreign exchange.

Haq has called on the federal government to implement a sales tax on imported cotton and yarn while exempting domestic purchases. This, he argues, would support local agriculture and industry and help strengthen the national economy. (ANI)

Rahul Physically Mishandled By Three MPs Of BJP: Cong

Congress MPs including KC Venugopal, K Suresh and Manickam Tagore wrote to Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla and alleged that the INDIA Bloc MPs were physically obstructed from entering and Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi was physically manhandled by three MPs from the ruling party.

In the letter to the Lok Sabha Speaker, Congress MPs claimed that they were protesting peacefully and were marching from Babasaheb Ambedkar’s statue to Makar Dwar in the Parliament.

“However, as we attempted to enter the Parliament through Makar Dwar, the protesting MPs were physically obstructed from entering. We would also like to bring to your notice that Rahul Gandhi, Leader of Opposition was physically manhandled by three MPs from the ruling party. This is a clear violation of the privileges extended to the Leader of the Opposition and infringes on the rights accorded to him in his official capacity as an MP. Their conduct was not only a blatant assault on the personal dignity of Rahul Gandhi but antithetical to the democratic spirit of our parliament,” the MPs said.

“We hope that you will treat this matter with utmost seriousness and take appropriate action,” they added.

Earlier today, Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge wrote to Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla and alleged that he was “physically assaulted” by BJP MPs during the protest from both sides in the Parliament over Ambedkar controversy.

In his letter to Birla, Kharge highlighted that their protest march was against the insulting remarks on Dr Ambedkar made by the Union Home Minister in his speech in the Rajya Sabha on December 17, 2024.

Earlier, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MP Pratap Chandra Sarangi alleged that he was hurt after getting a push from Congress leader Rahul Gandhi.

Sarangi claimed that he was standing on stairs when another member of Parliament fell on him, leading to an injury on his head.

However, Rahul denied the allegation and said that he was trying to get inside the Parliament when he was also pushed and threatened by the BJP MPs who were protesting near the entrance. He also alleged that Congress chief Mallikarjun Kharge was also pushed.

Meanwhile, both Sarangi and Mukesh Rajput have been admitted to the Ram Manohar Lohia Hospital and are being treated for their injuries. (ANI)

Priyanka Gandhi Vadra expressed her grief on the assault of an Army Officer

I Challenge Them To Say Jai Bhim: Priyanka Lashes Out At BJP MPs

Congress MP Priyanka Gandhi Vadra on Thursday lashed out at Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and its MPs who were protesting against her party for allegedly insulting Dr Ambedkar, challenging them to chant the slogan “Jai Bhim” in the Parliament premises.

Vadra said that people should not remain confused that the BJP was protecting the Constitution since the language used by Union Home Minister Amit Shah was reflective of their reality.

“We protest daily from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM. Nothing has happened till now. This is all a conspiracy. We asked those who were stopping us to chant ‘Jai Bhim’…We didn’t say anything. We kept chanting slogans for our constitution. If the people of this country think that these people are protecting the constitution, they should not remain confused since Amit Shah’s language has exposed their reality. They can’t even say Jai Bhim. I challenge them to say Jai Bhim here,” Vadra told reporters.

She came out in defence of Congress leader Rahul Gandhi amid allegations of “physical assault.” Vadra said that her brother was peacefully going inside the Parliament when BJP MPs stopped him.

“Rahul (Gandhi) was peacefully going inside the Parliament while holding BR Ambedkar’s photograph and chanting the ‘Jai Bhim’ slogan. Who stopped him from going to the Parliament? We have been protesting for so many days and there is always space left for those who are going inside and outside,” Vadra, who is the Congress MP from Wayanad, said.

Vadra further accused the BJP MPs of pushing Congress chief Mallikarjun Kharge while protesting. Reacting to the entire situation, she said that it was a conspiracy to save Amit Shah’s skin.

“Today, they protested for the first time and stopped everyone while resorting to pushing, shoving and hooliganism. This is a conspiracy hatched to save Amit Shah’s skin. They pushed Kharge as he fell on the floor before my eyes. After that, a CPI (M) MP was also pushed around and he fell on Kharge. We could see that he has been injured,” Vadra said.

This comes amid a fresh controversy where BJP MP Pratap Chandra Sarangi alleged that he was hurt after getting a push from Congress leader Rahul Gandhi. Sarangi claimed that he was standing on stairs when another member of Parliament fell on him, leading to an injury on his head.

The BJP MP was rushed to Ram Manohar Lohia Hospital for treatment in an ambulance. BJP MP Mukesh Rajput was also injured during the protests and he has also been admitted to the RML hospital.

Reacting to this, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, in his defence, said that he was trying to get inside the Parliament when he was also pushed and threatened by the BJP MPs who were protesting near the entrance. He also alleged that Congress chief Mallikarjun Kharge was also pushed.

Medical Superintendent Ajay Shukla said that both of the leaders suffered head injuries and have been admitted to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU). Shukla also said that they are trying to stabilize both (Pratap Sarangi and Mukesh Rajput).

On Thursday morning, the Parliament witnessed parallel protests from both the Treasury and Opposition benches outside parliament. The ruling BJP MPs were protesting in the Parliament’s premises against the Congress party for “insulting” Babasaheb Ambedkar.

INDIA Bloc MPs led by Lok Sabha Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi held a protest on Thursday in the Parliament premises and demanded the resignation of Union Home Minister Amit Shah over his remarks on Babasaheb Ambedkar. (ANI)

She Rejects Meat, People Reject Dictatorship

I had a dream.
–From The Vegetarian by Han Kang

South Korea is not only known for K-pop, or its electronic goods, in what is a modern, western-style, liberal capitalist democracy with American troops stationed in its backyard. It is also known for the infinite suffering of its girls, young and older women. Their suffering is beyond imagination.

The Imperial Japanese Army occupied it, using relentless, savage, bestiality, from 1910 to 1945. Soldiers would randomly pick up little girls or women from the streets, or homes, and then they would simply disappear.

The fact is thousands of girls and women were forcibly abducted and trapped forcibly in multiple hell-holes, in abysmal, unhygienic conditions, and brutally raped, non-stop, by Japanese male soldiers — for days, months, years. One survivor later testified that “not one minute would pass” — and she would be, yet again, savagely assaulted by the men. Again and again.

Branded ‘comfort women’ and legitimized by a nasty and pervert King Hirohito, who aligned with the fascists during World War II, only a few survived this life-time of sex slavery. No justice has reached them till now, neither has an authentic regret seemed to have passed the lips of the successive Japanese governments which followed the war.

Hirohito’s army’s barbarism is unimaginable. They are also infamous for what is called ‘The Rape of Nanking’ (Nanjing), then the capital of ‘Nationalist China’.

Widely documented, it is believed that in 1937, over a period of merely six weeks, the Japanese army raped/gang-raped tens of thousands of girls and women, and then murdered many of them in the most grotesque manner. Hundreds of thousands of ordinary people were butchered. Nanking was ravaged. Many Chinese women then found themselves trapped in the same hell-holes in Japan, as the brutalised sex slaves of South Korea.

The people of South Korea recently refused to accept martial law and dictatorship being imposed by a discredited and corrupt president, who has been hitherto an American lackey, and a darling of the US establishment. People have thronged the streets in Gwangju, Seoul and elsewhere, in protest, defending their democracy. Since then the president has been impeached and stripped of all powers. He can’t even travel out of the country. And in case found guilty after a trial, he may even face a death sentence — in South Korea, the head of State has no immunity.

In her book The Vegetarian, Han Kang tells us how the male gaze and male power (for instance in a marriage, or, inside a so-called ‘happy family’) is integral to the entrenched masculinity of patriarch, in what appears to be a modern, liberal society. The protagonist, a slender, sensitive and quiet woman, not at all self-conscious of the innate beauty of her mind, and her body, suddenly stops eating meat. She says, in explanation, that she has seen a dream. (The dream is replete with blood, flesh, meat, death, decadence, grotesque hedonism. It is a kind of revelation.)

So, in a staged family dinner, her father stuffs meat in her mouth, repeatedly, while her mother, sister, husband, sister’s husband, they all watch in silence. Home suddenly turns into a suffocating prison, a torture chamber. She still refuses to eat meat.

Her father stuffs more meat in her mouth. Repeatedly. She pukes it all out. Then he slaps her.

Her husband, a meaningless, clerical creature, narrates, “…in the instant that the force of the slap had knocked my wife’s mouth open, he’d managed to jam the pork in. As soon as the strength in Yeong ho’s arms was visibly exhausted, my wife growled and spat out the meat. An animal cry of distress burst her lips.”

“Get away!”

She picked up the kitchen knife. “Jaw clenched, her intent stare facing each one of us down in turn, my wife brandished the knife… Blood ribboned out of her wrist. The shock of red splashed over white china. As her knees buckled and she crumpled to the floor…”

Clearly, this is not the first time that she has been violently attacked by her father. As her elder sister tells in the last chapter, this was an everyday reality in the childhood and youth of her little sister, Yeong-hye.

One of the reasons this South Korean president was elected, I am told, is because a large chunk of men voted for him — in protest against the rising power, stature and dignity of women in public spaces and organisations. They hate women who don’t toe their line. And they want women to be as subservient, obedient and crushed, as was the protocol earlier.

Much before the latest mass protests, Han Kang suddenly emerged in our stream of consciousness like a quiet evening star twinkling in a twilight of gloom and doom. A South Korean novelist, she was given the Noble Prize for Literature for 2024 for her “intense poetic prose that confronts historical traumas and exposes the fragility of human life”.

Named after the Han river, she was born in the winter of 1970 in Gwangju, which led the first, massive, people’s uprising against the military dictatorship in1980, which rocked South Korea and ushered in democracy and freedom. Hundreds were butchered by the army, women assaulted, students killed in cold blood. But the people refused to be defeated; they picked up arms. They fought on the streets, in campuses, schools, lanes and bylanes, from inside homes. And they won!

I was invited to Gwangju almost 20 years ago to write about the nightmares, the memories, the tributes and the celebrations. I travelled on road from Seoul to Gwangju. I met, mostly, beautiful young men and women, so friendly, that one female college student, who was my guide, held my arm all the while she showed me a gallery of remembrances. In the market place, I asked two college girls about their memories. They took me to a cafe, and told me stories they had heard when they were kids. One of them had streams of tears falling down her face.

A society which forgets its great actors of resistance, will rot and repent. Not in Gwangju! Here, the memorial of the fighters is not ‘a graveyard of the dead’. It is a living testimony of gratitude. A photo, a living flower, a brief introduction adorns each grave, shaded with trees. Unknown visitors cry for unknown people, bent low in respect, touching their photos. Tears float on the pictures, like dew drops on the flowers. Han Kang’s book, Human Acts, which I am now reading, tells the Gwangju story.

(One can see the cracked mirrors of contemporary India, and a shiver runs down the spine. This country seems to have lost all its memories of the great sacrifices done by our revolutionaries and freedom fighters, many of them tortured, imprisoned and hanged. Plus, the killings. Remember the Jallianwala massacre?)

Based on an earlier literary work, The Fruit of My Woman, whose title tells a tale, Han Kang wrote The Vegetarian when she was in her early 30s. Meat is a metaphor in her book. So is fruit.

The book, lucidly translated by Deborah Smith, got her the International Booker Prize in 2016. And, then, suddenly, Korean literature seemed to have become the flavour of the world.

Author Ellen Mattson, a member of the Nobel Committee for Literature, said during the award-giving ceremony on December 10, 2024: Two colours meet in Han Kang’s writing: white and red. The white is the snow that falls in so many of her books, drawing a protective curtain between the narrator and the world, but white is also the colour of sorrow, and of death. Red stands for life, but also for pain, blood, the deep cuts of a knife. While her voice can be seductively soft, it speaks of indescribable cruelty, of irreparable loss. Blood flows from the bodies piled up after the massacre, darkens, becomes an appeal, a question that the text can neither answer nor ignore: how should we relate to the dead, the abducted, the disappeared? What can we do for them? What do we owe them? The white and the red symbolize a historical experience that Han returns to in her novels.”

Indeed, in Yeong-Hye’s dream, we share our hidden longings and sensuality. In her shackled freedom, we can feel our own unfreedom. And in her refusal to eat meat, we can taste in our mouth, and in our deepest desires, the forbidden fruit, eternally denied to us.

BJP MP Pratap Sarangi Injured In Chaos Outside Parliament, Alleges ‘Push’ From Rahul Gandhi

As parallel protest from both Treasury and Opposition benches continued outside parliament a fresh controversy broke out. Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MP Pratap Chandra Sarangi on Thursday alleged that he was hurt after getting a push from Congress leader Rahul Gandhi. Singh claimed that he was standing on stairs when another member of Parliament fell on him, leading to an injury on his head.

“Rahul Gandhi pushed a member of Parliament who fell on me after which I fell down…I was standing near the stairs when Rahul Gandhi came and pushed an MP who then fell on me…” Singh told reporters.

As this happened, the BJP MP was rushed for treatment in an ambulance.

“This might be on your camera. I was trying to go inside through the Parliament entrance, but BJP MPs were trying to stop me, push me and threaten me. This has happened…Yes, this has happened (Mallikarjun Kharge being pushed). But we do not get affected by jostling. But this is the entrance and we have the right to go in. BJP MPs were trying to stop us from going in…” Gandhi told reporters.

He added that the central issue remains that the BJP was attacking the Constitution and insulting the memory of Ambedkar.

This comes as the ruling BJP MPs were protesting in the Parliament’s premises against the Congress party for “insulting” Babasaheb Ambedkar.

“Babasaheb Ambedkar ji ka apmaan nahi chalega (Insult to Babasaheb Ambedkar ji will not be tolerated),” BJP MPs chanted in the premises while holding banners which read, “Ambedkar showed us the path, Congress misled.

While protesting, Union Textiles Minister Giriraj Singh targeted the Gandhi family, saying that they have all received Bharat Ratna, but didn’t give it to Dr Ambedkar.

“Congress party is the biggest sinner for disrespecting Babasaheb. The whole family took the Bharat Ratna and didn’t give it to Babasaheb…Congress party should fast for 24 hours and take a vow of silence to atone for their sins,” Singh said.

Meanwhile, INDIA Bloc MPs led by Lok Sabha Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi held a protest on Thursday in the Parliament premises and demanded the resignation of Union Home Minister Amit Shah over his remarks on Babasaheb Ambedkar.

Many MPs including Rahul Gandhi, Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, Sanjay Raut, Mahua Majhi, and Ram Gopal Yadav were seen wearing blue clothes as a mark of protest against the Home Minister’s remarks.

Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha witnessed adjournments, earlier on Wednesday, with the Congress and other opposition members protesting against remarks of Home Minister Amit Shah relating to BR Ambedkar during his attack on Congress in his speech in Rajya Sabha.

The issue snowballed into a major political controversy with the Congress seeking the resignation of Amit Shah and Prime Minister Narendra Modi and other BJP leaders attacking the opposition party. (ANI)

Opposition Lok Sabha MPs meet with LoP Rahul Gandhi at Parliament House

A meeting was of the Lok Sabha Mps was held in the presence of the Leader of Opposition (LoP) in Lok Sabha and Congress MP Rahul Gandhi on Thursday at the Parliament House in New Delhi.

Taking to social media X (formerly known as Twitter) Congress wrote in a post “An important meeting was held with the Lok Sabha MPS in the presence of Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi at the Parliament House, New Delhi.”

Earlier today, INDIA Bloc MPS led by Rahul Gandhi held a protest in the Parliament premises and demanded the resignation of Union Home Minister Amit Shah over his remarks on Babasaheb Ambedkar.

Many MPs including Rahul Gandhi, Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, Sanjay Raut, Mahua Majhi, and Ram Gopal Yadav were seen wearing blue clothes as a mark of protest against the Home Minister’s remarks.

The INDIA Bloc MPs will march to Makar Dwar, demanding an apology and the resignation of Union Home Minister Amit Shah over his remarks.

This came after Amit Shah lashed out at the Congress party and said that it had become a ‘fashion’ for the party to take Ambedkar’s name.

“If they had taken the name of God so many times instead of Ambedkar then they would have got heaven for seven lives,” Shah said.

Shiv Sena (UBT) leader Sanjay Raut said that if there was a slip of the tongue, then Amit Shah should apologize.”BJP has no work left. BJP is a party which is sitting idle. Amit Shah is the Home Minister of the country. If he has made a mistake, if there was a slip of the tongue, he should apologise. There is no crime in apologising over Dr Ambedkar, he is a personality that has a God-like status…The man who provided dignity to the backward of the country is like God, even greater than him. You have used wrong words for him…So, apologise,” he said.

Earlier today, lashing out at the BJP over Amit Shah’s remarks on Babasaheb Ambedkar, Congress MP Priyanka Gandhi Vadra said on Thursday that they do not have basic respect for the person who is regarded as the Constitution maker.

Speaking to ANI, Priyanka Gandhi pointed out the photo shared by the BJP on X of Opposition MPs protest.”The manner in which he (HM Amit Shah) has insulted Babasaheb and after that this morning they tampered with Babasaheb’s photo on Twitter. This is a mind-set that vandalises the statue of Babasaheb. Who will trust them? They say that they do not want to end reservation, that they do not want to change the Constitution. They do not have the basic respect, he (Babasaheb Ambedkar) is the Constitution maker. You are saying this about him,” Priyanka told ANI.
