TikTok Thanks President-Elect Donald Trump As It Restores Service In US

Expressing gratitude to US President-elect Donald Trump for “providing the necessary clarity and assurance,” the Chinese short-form video service app TikTok has confirmed that it was in the process of restoring service in the United States.

This development comes after Trump pledged to restore access to TikTok, which had stopped functioning in the US on Saturday night to comply with the Biden dispensation’s ban order.

In a post on X on Sunday, TikTok stated, “In agreement with our service providers, TikTok is in the process of restoring service. We thank President Trump for providing the necessary clarity and assurance to our service providers that they will face no penalties providing TikTok to over 170 million Americans and allowing over 7 million small businesses to thrive.”

“It’s a strong stand for the First Amendment and against arbitrary censorship. We will work with President Trump on a long-term solution that keeps TikTok in the United States,” the post added.

Trump announced on Truth Social that he plans to issue an executive order on Monday to delay the enforcement of the TikTok ban for 90 days.

“I’m asking companies not to let TikTok stay dark! I will issue an executive order on Monday to extend the period of time before the law’s prohibitions take effect so that we can make a deal to protect our national security,” he said.

“The order will also confirm that there will be no liability for any company that helped keep TikTok from going dark before my order. Americans deserve to see our exciting Inauguration on Monday, as well as other events and conversations,” he added.

He further, outlined a proposal for the US to hold a 50 per cent ownership stake in a joint venture involving TikTok.

“I would like the United States to have a 50 per cent ownership position in a joint venture. By doing this, we save TikTok, keep it in good hands and allow it to say up. Without US approval, there is no TikTok. With our approval, it is worth hundreds of billions of dollars – maybe trillions,” he said.

“Therefore, my initial thought is a joint venture between the current owners and/or new owners whereby the US gets a 50 per cent ownership in a joint venture set up between the US and whichever purchase we so choose,” he added.

TikTok went offline in the US on Saturday night (local time), just hours before a law banning the app was set to take effect, CNN reported.

The users who tried to access the platform were met with a message stating, “Sorry, TikTok isn’t available right now. A law banning TikTok has been enacted in the US. Unfortunately, that means you can’t use TikTok for now.”

The ban follows a Supreme Court ruling on Friday that upheld a law passed with bipartisan support in Congress and signed by US President Joe Biden in April.

According to CNN, the law prohibits US companies from hosting or serving content for the Chinese-owned platform unless TikTok is sold to a US-based or allied company. (ANI)

Hamas Returns Three Hostages In 1st Phase Of Peace Deal

In a major breakthrough, the first set of three Israeli hostages have been handed over to Israel on Sunday, in accordance with the hostage release framework for the first phase of the Gaza ceasefire deal between Israel and Hamas.

The three hostages –Romi Gnen, Emily Damari, and Doron Steinbrecher– are set to be reunited with their families after 471 days of captivity in Gaza.

The Israeli Defence Forces (IDF) on Sunday confirmed that Hamas has released the three hostages and that they have been returned to Israeli territory.

Taking to X, the IDF stated that “They’re home” and shared a photo of the three hostages.

According to the latest update by IDF, the 3 released hostages have arrived at the initial reception point in southern Israel, where they will be reunited with their mothers.

IDF officers from the Manpower Directorate and IDF medical officials are accompanying the released hostages during an initial medical assessment. The IDF representatives are also accompanying their families at the hospital and updating them with the latest available information.

The IDF earlier stated that the released hostages, accompanied by the IDF and ISA, will undergo an initial medical assessment following their return to Israeli territory.

“The 3 released hostages are currently being transferred to IDF and ISA forces in Gaza. They are accompanied by IDF and ISA special forces upon their return to Israeli territory, where they will undergo an initial medical assessment,” the IDF said.

The implementation of the first phase of the ceasefire-hostage deal in Gaza between Hamas and Israel, came into effect today.

The Office of the Prime Minister of Israel confirmed that the first phase of the ceasefire-hostage deal in Gaza between Hamas and Israel, came into effect today at 11:15 am (local time). Notably, the deal was earlier set to take effect on Sunday, January 19, at 08:30 (local time).

Notably, the ceasefire deal suffered a delay hours before the implementation of the deal, when Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu stated that Israel would not proceed with the agreed framework until Hamas provided the list of hostages to be released, adding that any violations of the agreement would “not be tolerated”.

Israeli President, Isaac Herzog, welcomed the return of the hostages and said the entire nation is rejoicing on the day, as it marks the beginning of a “challenging journey” of recovery and healing. He added that their hearts are with all the grieving families, who haven’t been yet united with their loved ones in Hamas’ captivity.

“Romi, Emily, and Doron–so beloved and missed–an entire nation rejoices at your return. We send you and your families a huge embrace. This is a day of joy and comfort and the beginning of a challenging journey of recovery and healing together. “The eyes weep bitterly, and the heart rejoices.” At this moment, our hearts are with all the anxious and grieving families whose loved ones have not yet returned. We will not rest or be silent until we bring back all our sisters and brothers from the hell of captivity in Gaza–the living to their families and the fallen and murdered to be laid to rest in dignity,” he said. Everyone’s safety is under a question mark. And especially if an immigrant does something like this, then we should definitely secure our Indian borders, very important.”

The actress shared that she was “shocked” when she came to know about the incident.

“We who live in Mumbai are very shocked by what happened because Mumbai is considered as one of the safest cities in India hah. So, after the incident, obviously, everyone is tense. But the Police are doing their job well. And I think in the latest news, the assailant has been caught. Therefore, I hope the legal process starts soon.”

Meanwhile Mumbai police have caught the accused identified as Mohd Shariful Islam Shehzad, who they claim is a native of the Jhalokati district in Bangladesh.

As per the police statement, the accused entered the residence of the renowned actor with the intent to commit theft. The case has been registered under sections 311, 312, 331(4), 331(6), and 331(7) of the Bharatiya Nyay Sanhita (BNS).

Shehzad was sent to five-day police custody by Bandra Holiday Court today. His advocate Sandeep Shekhane denied the police claims and alleged that “no proper investigation” has been done till now.

“A police custody for 5 days has been granted. The court has asked the police to submit a report within 5 days. The police have no proof that he is a Bangladeshi. They said that he came here 6 months ago, it is a wrong statement. He has been living here for more than 7 years. His family is in Mumbai… This is a clear-cut violation of 43A. No proper investigation has been done,” Shekhane told reporters.

The case was reported by Aleyamma Philip, a 56-year-old staff nurse. After the attack, the actor was immediately taken to Mumbai’s Lilavati Hospital, where he received treatment for serious injuries, including stab wounds to his thoracic spine.

‘Wealth & Fame Are Heady Cocktail, A Celebrity Must Learn To Digest It’

Dr Poonam Devdutt, a consultant psychologist and organizational trainer, says life is full of uncertainties, so keep your feet firmly on ground. Her views

Not long ago, netizens were pained to see videos of former cricketer Vinod Kambli in straitened circumstances, looking down and out and physically unwell. Sadly, such images are not new. Down the years we have repeatedly heard stories of once famous sportspersons, singers, actors and others who in post-success years were beset by anonymity, poverty and ill health, at times caused by substance abuse. There is a long list of celebs who in their last days lived in dire poverty, not having even the wherewithal to pay hospital bills

The question arises: how is it that some celebrities come down in the world and cut a sorry figure in the advanced years of their lives? They once rode the wave of fame, earned everything from money to public adulation, and yet in the space of a few years they lost all and ended up as pitiable figures.

An analysis of these case histories throws up multiple factors: social, financial, and, above all, psychological. Prominent among these are lack of self-discipline which makes them vulnerable to distractions and temptations, poor financial planning, taking success for granted, a feeling of ‘I am invincible’, an illusion that ‘things will always stay this way’ and a singular lack of psychological resilience due to which they are unable to reinvent themselves according to changed circumstances.

The pursuit of success is widespread. The ability to cope with extraordinary success is, unfortunately, rare. Success, especially if it comes early, or easily, or in large measure, is notoriously difficult to handle. This is seen particularly in the sports and entertainment industries. Actors and sportspersons may become overnight stars with the success of a movie or match.

All of a sudden, they may be deluged with offers, the fan following burgeons, the media can’t have enough of them, and the money pours in effortlessly. The golden dream has come true! The world is my oyster, they feel. ‘You are the best’ says the media, the fans and the newly acquired hangers on and they believe it! There are temptations galore – wanton expenditure, a seven-star lifestyle. Promiscuity and substance abuse are never far away. Wealth, fame and public adulation are a heady cocktail. Few are able to keep their balance.

The winning spree or wave of box office success may last for a time – long or short as the case may be. Eventually the tide turns. Age catches up, audience tastes change, the flood of adoration dries up, media is no longer interested, fans find other idols to worship. Worst of all, the money stops rolling in. What follows is often tragic – financial ruin, social isolation, betrayals, and, horror of horrors – anonymity! Physical problems may crop up due to age, alcoholism, drug abuse and lack of discipline in lifestyle.

What is the solution?

It is important to realize that in this life full of uncertainties, change is the only constant. Fame is fleeting. Life is cyclical. As the philosopher said – the wheel of fortune turns – those that were up go down and those that were down go up!

Celebrities who continue to live well even after fading from public memory have realized the above truth and taken necessary steps to deal with changed circumstances.

Keeping one’s head while riding the wave of success, is the key. It is good to fly high as long as the feet are planted firmly on mother earth. A celebrity surrounded by sycophants and faced with alluring distractions may think I can do no wrong. But the law of Karma spares no one. Decisions made and actions taken will have their inevitable consequences – good, bad or ugly.

Substance abuse has been the undoing of countless uniquely talented celebrities. Traditional injunctions against use of psychotropic substances hold true even today, contemporary permissiveness notwithstanding.

Financial planning and sound investments are essential to ensure life long economic stability. Knowing that the shelf life of popular fame is limited it makes sense to develop financial acumen or failing that, to take professional guidance.

As a safeguard for a productive and satisfying future many celebrities invest in a second line of business or alternative occupation. This ensures continued productivity, creativity and monetary stability.

A vital ingredient for a stable life is psychological balance and emotional resilience. Difficult though it may be, it is nevertheless important to be realistic, to remain connected to one’s roots and family, and to have a pragmatic approach to life. Rather than allowing success to go to one’s head, as they say, one can use success and fame as a stepping stone to a secure future. This is where planning comes in. While enjoying present success it is wise to plan for the future and keep alternative options open.

Psychological resilience enables us to reinvent ourselves in accordance with changed circumstances. If one door closes it makes sense to explore other avenues rather than lapsing into paralyzing self-pity.

No doubt, success is good. It is heady. The key is to not get intoxicated. As the army teaches us – always have a Plan B.

Savour the best but be prepared for the worst!

Kharge, Rahul To Spearhead Cong Campaign In Delhi Polls

Ahead of the upcoming assembly elections in Delhi, Congress has announced the list of its star campaigners, where party chief Mallikarjun Kharge along with Sonia Gandhi, Leader of Opposition (LoP) Rahul Gandhi, and Priyanka Gandhi Vadra will be participating in the poll campaign for candidates.

The alliance partners in the INDIA bloc, including Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) and Congress, have been contesting the upcoming assembly polls in Delhi separately while attacking each other over many issues along with the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).

However, the BJP-led NDA seems to be united in these assembly polls as the BJP has announced its candidates on 68 seats out of 70, leaving two seats of Burari for Shailendra Kumar from Janata Dal (United) and Deoli for Lok Janshakti Party (Ram Vilas).

In the list, Congress has named many senior leaders as star campaigners, including former Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot, KC Venugopal, Sachin Pilot, Bhupendra Baghel, Deepender Singh Hooda, Pawan Khera, Kanhaiya Kumar, Alka Lamba, Sandeep Dikshit, Amrinder Singh Raja Warring, Imran Pratapgarhi, Qazi Nizamuddin, Udit Raj among others.

Meanwhile, Congress leader Alka Lamba on Saturday hit out at the Aam Admi Party and BJP, saying they continue to indulge in bickering in the run-up to Delhi polls while Congress is raising development issues.

Alka Lamba, Congress candidate from the Kalkaji assembly constituency, pointed to a camp for the homeless people and said problems have been complicated for people due to actions of the government.

Delhi will go for polls on February 5 while the counting of votes will take place on February 8.

The Congress, which was in power for 15 consecutive years in Delhi, has suffered setbacks in the last two assembly elections and has failed to win any seat. In contrast, the AAP dominated the 2020 assembly elections by winning 62 out of 70 seats while the BJP got only eight seats. (ANI)
