Delhi Polls: BJP Unveils Manifesto With Focus On Healthcare, Women Empowerment, Senior Citizens’ Welfare

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Friday launched the party’s ‘Sankalp Patra’ for the Delhi assembly elections with a key focus on improving healthcare, empowering women, supporting senior citizens, and ensuring better access to essential services.

The party pledged to roll out new schemes and enhance existing ones to create a more inclusive and supportive environment for the people of Delhi.

Bharatiya Janata Party’s National President and Union Minister JP Nadda launched the party’s Delhi Assembly election manifesto on Friday.

Among the major promises, the BJP announced a series of welfare initiatives for women, starting with the provision of six nutritional kits and Rs 21,000 in financial assistance under the Matritva Suraksha Yojana to ensure the health and well-being of pregnant women.

Under the Mahila Samriddhi Yojana, the BJP has proposed monthly financial assistance of Rs 2,500 for women in Delhi, aimed at empowering them economically.

To support low-income families, the BJP promised to provide LPG cylinders at Rs 500 to women from such households. The party also committed to offering one free cylinder each on the occasions of Holi and Deepawali.

The manifesto also highlighted the party’s focus on healthcare, with a promise to implement the central government’s Ayushman Bharat Yojana in Delhi, providing free treatment up to Rs 5 lakh. The state government would add another Rs 5 lakh cover for low-income households, ensuring comprehensive medical care.

For senior citizens, the BJP promised to introduce several initiatives, including free OPD and diagnostic services for all individuals aged 70 and above. Additionally, the party will provide Rs 10 lakh health cover and increase the Senior Citizen’s Pension from Rs 2,000 to Rs 2,500 for those aged 60-70.

Senior citizens, widows, specially abled, and destitute aged over 70 years will see a pension increase from Rs 2,500 to Rs 3,000.

In a step towards improving the quality of life in underserved areas, the BJP proposed the launch of Atal Canteens in JJ clusters to provide nutritious meals for just Rs 5.

The BJP also reassured that once in power, the party would continue existing welfare schemes while making them more efficient and transparent, eliminating corruption from the process.

These initiatives aim to enhance the welfare of Delhi’s residents, particularly the marginalized and vulnerable groups, signalling the BJP’s commitment to social welfare and development in the national capital.

As per the BJP, these initiatives aim to enhance the welfare of Delhi’s residents, particularly the marginalised and vulnerable groups, signalling the party’s commitment to social welfare and development in the national capital.

Speaking about the central government’s flagship health scheme, the BJP national chief JP Nadda promised to implement Ayushman Bharat for 51 lakh people getting health insurance coverage for Rs 5 lakh from the first cabinet meeting itself.

“After forming the govt in Delhi, we will implement the Central government’s Ayushman Bharat for 51 lakh people, who were deprived of its benefits under AAP, in the first Cabinet meeting. Besides, we will provide additional cover of Rs 5 lakh,” he added.

Nadda has called the manifesto a ‘foundation for a developed Delhi,’ expressing confidence in winning the upcoming assembly election.BJP national president said that the ‘Sankalp Patra’ has been made after receiving mass feedback after holding thousands of meetings and getting ideas from constituents.”We have received approximately 1 lakh 80 thousand feedbacks. Discussions were held through 12 thousand small and big meetings and ideas were collected through 41 LED Vans,” he said while addressing a press conference.

Nadda further hit out at the ruling Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), saying that a BJP government will investigate AAP’s alleged corruption.

“Their (AAP’s) Mohalla clinic is a den of corruption and a programme to hoodwink people. Fraud lab tests have been conducted in his mohalla clinic and a scam of Rs 300 crore has taken place. When our government comes, all these will be thoroughly investigated,” Nadda said.

He further criticised the other promises that Delhi’s ruling party has failed to give, claiming that they were not able to fulfil their promise of giving Rs 2100 in Punjab too.

Calling it ‘AAPda’s track record, he added, “Let me shed some light on AAPda’s track record. They promised to give Rs 2100 per month in 2021. They neither gave it here in Delhi nor Punjab. In 2024, they promised to give Rs 1000 per month. As expected, they did not provide it here in Delhi or Punjab. They failed to give subsidy on LPG.”

12 Indians In Russian Army Killed In Ukraine; MEA Seeks Early Return Of Survivors

The Ministry of External Affairs mourned the demise of Binil Babu, the Indian national killed while serving in the Russian Army in the ongoing conflict against Ukraine, and said India is in touch with the Russian authorities to ensure the return of the deceased’s mortal remains to India.

He also informed that another Indian national has sustained injuries during the conflict and is getting treatment. He is expected to come back to India soon.

“The death of Binil Babu is extremely unfortunate. We have conveyed our condolences to the family. Our embassy is in touch with the Russian authorities so that his mortal remains could come back to India as soon as possible. Another person who was injured is receiving treatment in Moscow…Hopefully, he will also be returning to India soon after his treatment is completed,” MEA spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal said on Friday.

MEA also confirmed that as many as 12 Indian nationals have been killed while serving for the Russian Army in the Ukraine conflict, while 16 more are missing.

There were a total of 126 cases of Indian nationals serving in the Russian Army, and India is seeking an “early release” of those who are still there, the spokesperson said.

“As of today, there have been 126 cases (of Indian nationals serving in the Russian Army). Of these 126 cases, 96 people have returned to India and have been discharged from the Russian Armed Forces. 18 Indian nationals in the Russian Army remain and out of them the whereabouts of 16 individuals are not known. The Russian side has categorised them as missing,” Jaiswal said.

He added, “We are seeking early release and repatriation of those who remain…12 Indian nationals have died who were serving in the Russian Army.”

Notably, several Indian nationals were allegedly duped into fighting in Russia’s war with Ukraine on the pretext of lucrative jobs.

Last year, the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), busted a major human trafficking network running across the country targeting Indian nationals on the promise of offering lucrative jobs abroad but allegedly sending them to the Russia-Ukraine war zone.

Talking about Russian President Vladimir Putin’s visit to India, Jaiswal said that India will be hosting the annual summit between the two nations this year and the dates will be worked out later.

“This year we have to host the annual summit in India…Each year we have annual summits with Russia…The dates will be worked out through diplomatic channels,” he said.

Notably, the Kremlin has confirmed that Russian President Vladimir Putin’s visit to India this year, the dates for which are yet to be announced.

This will be Putin’s first visit to India since the beginning of the conflict between Ukraine and Russia in 2022.

India has always advocated “peace and diplomacy” for resolving conflict between Ukraine and Russia.Putin and PM Modi remain in regular contact, holding talks over phone-call once every couple of months, according to Russian Embassy in India. The two leaders also hold in-person meetings.

In 2024, the two leaders met twice as PM Modi in July travelled to Moscow to participate in the 22nd Russia-India summit.

PM Modi’s official visit to Russia in July marked his first bilateral visit after resuming office for the third time. PM Modi was also conferred with Russia’s highest national award “The Order of St. Andrew the Apostle” for his contribution to fostering India-Russia ties.

From a warm hug to driving an electric car for ‘dost’ PM Modi, the chemistry between the leaders hogged the limelight. During his visit to Russia, PM Modi held a bilateral meeting and an informal meeting with Putin. The two leaders also visited the Rosatom Pavilion at the VDNKh Exhibition Centre in Moscow.

Later in October, PM Modi visited Russia’s Kazan for a two-day visit to attend the BRICS Summit. He thanked Russian President Vladimir Putin, the people of Russia and their government for their hospitality. PM Modi took to X to share glimpses of his visit to Russia. (ANI)

Janta Seat Bhi Chappad Fadke Deti Hai: Sisodia

Senior Aam Aadmi Party leader and candidate from Jangpura assembly constituency Manish Sisodia exuded confidence on Friday that the party would win the upcoming Delhi Assembly elections with a comfortable majority while affirming that the people have shown confidence in the AAP government.

“A government with a comfortable majority will come in, we will have a clearer picture when closer to the elections. When the people make you feel that they want to give you a government with a comfortable majority then…woh janta seat bhi aapko chappad fadke deti hai (people then give you a majority with a decisive mandate),” Sisodia told ANI.

“The (AAP) government will be formed…It is possible that we will get 2 seats more than before or less than before,” he added.

After winning 67 out of 70 seats in 2015, AAP dominated the 2020 assembly elections as well by winning 62 out of 70 seats while the BJP got eight seats.

The former Delhi Deputy Chief Minister also slammed the Bharatiya Janata Party, challenging them to compare the school systems between Delhi, Uttar Pradesh and Haryana, as the other two are BJP-led states.

“What will they (BJP) give Delhi? In Haryana and UP, it is your govt, tell us if you have improved the schools there?,” he questioned.

The AAP leader further criticised the BJP for being ‘unable’ to choose a Chief Minister candidate to directly face off against the party’s national convenor and former CM Arvind Kejriwal.

“Clearly we are an ‘Aapda’ for BJP. BJP is unable to declare a CM face in Delhi as all the leaders they have are abusive, they make inappropriate remarks about women, abuse people, and distribute money and sarees. So, there is an ‘Aapda’ in front of the BJP regarding who is credible enough to be put up against Arvind Kejriwal, there is no one,” the AAP leader told ANI.

Earlier in the day, BJP national president JP Nadda launched his party’s Sankalp Patra. During the launch, he criticised the ruling party for being an ‘AAPda’ in providing welfare schemes to people.

When questioned about not tabling the CAG report in the Delhi assembly, Sisodia mentioned that the report will eventually be tabled, as a special session of the assembly cannot be called during election campaigning.

A Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG) report on the Delhi government’s excise policy revealed a revenue loss of Rs 2,026 crore to the state exchequer.

The report’s findings stated that there were deviations from the objective of the policy, a lack of transparency in pricing, and violations in issuing licenses that were not penalised.

“A special session during an election cannot be called anyway. After the elections, an (assembly) session will happen and the report will be placed. The BJP has made up a CAG report sitting in their offices, and they are distributing that to reporters. CAG’s report even the Chief Minister cannot read, it can only be read at the table, in the House. It will be placed and it is possible that report is in our favour, it has happened before, and can happen again,” he told ANI.

The Delhi Assembly elections are going to be held in a single phase on February 5, with counting to be done on February 8.

SC Denies Bail To Ex-PFI Chairman Abubacker In UAPA Case

The Supreme Court on Friday denied bail to E Abubacker, former chairman of the banned outfit Popular Front of India (PFI), who sought his release on medical grounds in a case registered against him under anti-terror law Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA).

A bench of Justices Sundresh and Rajesh Bindal said it was not inclined to grant bail on medical grounds at this stage and granted liberty to him to approach the trial court.

Additional Solicitor General SV Raju, appearing for the National Investigation Agency, argued that all the medical conditions raised by Abubacker have been optimised through various treatments and hence, he cannot be granted bail.

Abubacker was arrested on September 22, 2022, by the NIA during a massive crackdown on PFI.

The government banned the PFI and several of its associate organisations on September 28, 2022, for five years under the stringent anti-terror law, accusing them of having links with global terror groups like ISIS.

He approached the apex court challenging the Delhi High Court’s May 28, 2024 order which denied him bail.

Abubacker said that he was in his seventies and suffering from Parkinson’s disease and that he had undergone surgery for treatment of cancer.

Among the allegations against Abubacker is that he was earlier associated with SIMI, a banned organisation and later he became an integral part of the PFI. He was also an authorised signatory with respect to the bank accounts of PFI. (ANI)

Saif Ali Khan Stabbed: Mumbai Police Detain One Person For Questioning

Mumbai Police on Friday detained one person in connection with an attack on Bollywood star Saif Ali Khan at his Bandra residence. The suspect has been brought to the Bandra police station for further questioning.

Earlier today, Mumbai Police said that they have taken possession of a portion of the blade extracted from Saif’s back, while efforts to recover the remaining part are still underway

Mumbai Police also said that the accused involved in the attack on Bollywood actor Saif Ali Khan was last seen near Bandra railway station and that the search is on to nab him. Police suspect that after the incident, the suspect caught the first local train in the morning and headed towards Vasai Virar. Mumbai Police teams are searching in Vasai, Nalasopara and Virar areas, an official said.

Bollywood Actor Saif Ali Khan was attacked by an intruder in his 11th-floor Bandra flat at around 2:30 am on Thursday. The incident occurred when an intruder allegedly confronted the actor’s maid at his residence. As Saif attempted to intervene and de-escalate the situation, it escalated into a violent altercation, resulting in the actor sustaining several stab wounds. Saif was immediately taken to Mumbai’s Lilavati Hospital after being stabbed by the intruder. He underwent surgery under the supervision of a team of doctors there.

As per doctors, Saif sustained a major injury to the thoracic spinal cord due to a lodged knife in the spine, and surgery was performed to remove a 2.5-inch-long knife from the actor’s spine and repair his ‘leaking spinal fluid’. While Saif is “out of danger”, doctors are continuing to monitor him. After surgery, he was shifted to ICU, where he is currently recovering. Mumbai police registered an FIR regarding the attack on the actor and recorded the statement of the complainant, who is the maid employed by the actor.

In the complaint, it is alleged that the attacker demanded one crore rupees from the family. According to the complainant, the intruder attacked the maid allegedly with a hexa blade, which hit both her hands. “He ran towards me with something like wood in his left hand and a long thin hexa blade in his right hand, during the scuffle, he tried to attack me with the blade, when I tried to protect myself by moving my hand forward, something like a knife hit my wrist near both my hands and the middle finger of my left hand. At that time, I asked him “What do you want” Then he said, “I need money, I asked how much.” Then he said in English ‘One crore’,” the statement read.

In the recorded statement, the house help mentioned that the incident happened at 2 AM on January 16. “When I looked again I saw a shadow at the bathroom door, and as I bent down to see who might be inside, one person came out and went towards their (Saif Ali Khan’s) son,” the statement added.

She further said, “He attacked Saif with a wooden object in her hand and a hexa blade… We all ran out of the room and pulled the door and then we all ran towards him. Hearing the sound, Ramesh, Hari, Ramu and Paswan who were sleeping came out. When we took him to the room again, the door of the room was open.”

Mumbai Police is currently investigating the matter and have formed 20 teams to track down and nab the intruder who stabbed Saif. Dixit Gedam, DCP Zone 9 of Mumbai Police, who is part of the team investigating an attack on Saif, said that the incident was a “robbery attempt” and the accused used a fire escape staircase to enter Saif Ali Khan’s house. Edam said, “Last night, the accused used a fire escape staircase to enter Saif Ali Khan’s house. It appears to be a robbery attempt. We working to arrest the accused. 10 Detection teams are working on the case. An offence has been registered in Bandra Police Station.” (ANI)
