SIT Arrests 4 Suppliers In Tirupati Laddu Row; CBI Finds E-Tendering Lapses

After the Special Investigation Team (SIT) led by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) arrested four individuals and sent them to judicial remand in connection with the adulteration of ghee used in the Tirumala Srivari Laddu, the agency reported finding “severe lapses” in the e-tendering process of the Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams (TTD).

The CBI, acting on orders from the Supreme Court, had formed an SIT to investigate the matter. The remand report confirmed adulteration in the ghee supplied, and according to the investigating agency, AR Dairy, Vaishnavi Dairy, and Bhole Baba Dairy are involved in the case.

Those arrested include Bipin Jain and Pomil Jain, former directors of Bhole Baba Dairy (Roorkee, Uttarakhand), Vaishnavi Dairy (Poonambakkam) CEO Apoorva Vinay Kant Chawda, and AR Dairy (Dundigal) MD Raju Rajasekharan.

According to the Telegu Desam Party, the accused were interrogated for three days in Tirupati but reportedly remained uncooperative despite strong evidence against them. Investigations have revealed troubling allegations that animal carcass residues were found in the ghee, sparking outrage among devotees.

AR Dairy, which had a contract with TTD, has been found guilty of multiple irregularities. Joint Director Viresh Prabhu has been stationed in Tirupati to monitor the investigation, TDP added.

Yesterday, Bharatiya Janata party spokesperson Lanka Dinakar stated that everyone who was arrested recently in connection with alleged adulteration of ghee used in preparing the Tirupati temple’s sacred laddu Prasadam will be produced in court.

Speaking to ANI, the BJP leader said that all the arrested individuals will be produced in court soon. He further asserted that the investigation is ongoing in the alleged adulteration of prasad of the Sri Venkateswara Swamy Temple in Andhra Pradesh’s Tirumala.

“In this process, yesterday, the SIT arrested Bipin Jain, Samil Jain of Roorkee’s Bhole Baba Dairy, Poonambakkam’s Vaishnavi Dairy CEO Apoorva Vinay Kant Chawda, and Dundigal’s AR Dairy MD Raju Rajasekharan. All will be produced in court, and the investigation process is ongoing,” Dinakar said.

Reacting to the arrest of four people in Tirupati Laddu controversy case, TTD Board Member Bhanu Prakash Reddy said, “Last night, 3-4 directors of dairies were taken into custody and have now been sent to remand. Who all are behind this? Why this happened, all the details are going to come out. We have confidence that the people behind this will be strictly punished. More people in the matter of the dairy and other issues. During the inquiry, with evidence, we are going to prove and arrest them…” (ANI)

Champions Trophy: Harshit Rana in for injured Bumrah, Chakaravarthy replaces Jaiswal

In a setback for Team India as it gears up for the Champions Trophy, Star pacer Jasprit Bumrah has been ruled out of the tournament due to a lower back injury. Harshit Rana has been named the replacement of the ace pacer.

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) on Tuesday night released a statement to confirm Bumrah’s absence from the tournament.

“Fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah has been ruled out of the 2025 ICC Champions Trophy due to a lower back injury. The Men’s Selection Committee has named Harshit Rana as Bumrah’s replacement.”

Another prominent change in India’s 15-member squad includes youngster Yashasvi Jaiswal being dropped from the squad and mystery spinner Varun Chakaravarthy coming in as his replacement.

“Team India have also named Varun Chakaravarthy in the squad. The spinner will replace Yashasvi Jaiswal who was initially named in the provisional squad,” the statement added.

Bumrah has been missing from on-field action since January. His last appearance was in Border-Gavaskar Trophy Test against Australia in Sydney.

After bowling 10.1 overs in the first innings, the A-Lister was visibly in discomfort and went for scans. He was advised by the Australian doctors not to participate in the remainder of the Sydney Test. He came out to bat in the second innings but didn’t take up his duties with the ball.

On the other hand, Jaiswal’s omission comes after his ODI debut in the three-match series opener against England. Jaiswal was initially named in the provisional squad, while Chakaravarthy was left aside.

In his ODI debut, the young southpaw failed to deliver with the bat and flopped with a knock of 15(22). In the second ODI, Jaiswal was dropped from the playing XI for Virat Kohli, and Chakaravarthy made his ODI debut. He returned with figures of 1/54 in his 10-over spell.

India will begin its campaign in the Champions Trophy on February 20 against Bangladesh in Dubai.

India’s squad for ICC Champions Trophy, 2025: Rohit Sharma (Captain), Shubman Gill (Vice-captain), Virat Kohli, Shreyas Iyer, KL Rahul (WK), Rishabh Pant (WK), Hardik Pandya, Axar Patel, Washington Sundar, Kuldeep Yadav, Harshit Rana, Mohd. ‘Influencers Must Not Cross The Line, But Audience Must Share Blame Too’

Bengaluru-based Ashutosh Jindal, a stand-up comedy enthusiast, is pained by the genre’s decline and an increasing use of abusive language by popular content generators. His views:

I have never been a fan of cancel culture, but the recent controversy surrounding Ranveer Allahbadia and Samay Raina made me pause and reflect. In 2024, Prime Minister Narendra Modi presented Allahbadia with the Disruptor of the Year award. He has been featured in Forbes 30 Under 30, built a digital empire with over 6 billion views across 12 YouTube channels, and interviewed some of the most influential personalities—from Bollywood stars to athletes and entrepreneurs. And yet, in one moment of “lapse in judgment,” he found himself at the center of a storm that exposed something far bigger than just one man’s mistake.

On comedian Samay Raina’s show, India’s Got Latent, Ranveer posed an utterly inappropriate and disturbing question to a contestant: “Would you rather watch your parents have sex every day for the rest of your life or join in once and stop it forever?” The internet erupted. There was outrage, disgust, and sharp criticism. Soon after, Ranveer issued a public apology, admitting that his comment wasn’t just inappropriate. But the damage was done.

This brings me to a bigger question: Is someone in his position allowed to be so irresponsible? As a social media influencer with millions of followers, is there any room for “lapses in judgment” like this? And while we’re pointing fingers, shouldn’t we also be looking in the mirror? Because, it’s not just about Ranveer Allahbadia; it’s about all of us—the audience who fuels the demand for such content.

This debate also reminds me of a statement made by singer Diljit Dosanjh. When criticized for singing about liquor, he retorted, “First, the government should ban liquor, then I will stop singing about it.” He had a point. The onus isn’t just on the creators but also on the system that allows and encourages such content. If problematic content thrives, it’s because there is a demand for it. If we want influencers to be responsible, we must also examine the societal structures that normalize and enable the very behavior we later condemn. The conversation cannot be one-sided. We all have a role to play in shaping the content we consume and, ultimately, the culture we create.

Social media influencers have an undeniable impact on people, especially the youth. They set trends, shape opinions, and sometimes even dictate moral standards. But what happens when entertainment crosses the line into tastelessness? Are we as an audience complicit in enabling it? The reality is, if content like this didn’t get views, it wouldn’t be made. It’s a classic case of demand and supply. If we stop consuming problematic content, its creators will be forced to pivot.

There’s another layer to this issue: regulation. Where do we draw the line between freedom of speech and social responsibility? While I am not advocating for censorship, there needs to be some form of accountability. Obnoxious, cringeworthy content being fed to millions—especially impressionable teenagers—cannot be brushed aside as mere entertainment. If left unchecked, such content contributes to the normalisation of offensive language, sexist remarks, and even problematic behaviour in real life. We can’t ignore the connection between what’s being glorified online and the broader societal consequences, including crimes against women and toxic masculinity.

This controversy is a perfect example of why influencers, no matter how big, need to be mindful of what they say. Not everything is funny. And fun cannot come at the cost of basic moral values. The lesson is simple: If you have influence, you also have responsibility. And if you’re part of the audience, you have the power. Use it wisely.

SC Directs Sessions Court To Decide Azam Khan’s Appeal In 6 Months

The Supreme Court on Tuesday asked a sessions court to adjudicate Samajwadi Party (SP) leader Mohammad Abdullah Azam Khan’s appeal against his conviction in a case involving assault of a public servant.

A Bench of Justices MM Sundresh and Rajesh Bindal passed an interim order requesting the District Court to make an endeavour to dispose off Khan’s appeal in six months.

The Court also clarified that the sessions court would treat Khan as a juvenile accused while handling his appeal after senior advocate Kapil Sibal, representing him, requested that the findings of the juvenile court were in his client’s favour.

Abdullah Azam Khan is a former Member of Legislative Assembly (MLA) from Suar constituency in Rampur district in Uttar Pradesh.

He and his father were convicted by a local court in Uttar Pradesh for committing the offense of using criminal force to deter a public servant from discharging his duty and for other offences under the Indian Penal Code (IPC), in a 2008 matter pertaining to a ‘dharna’ on a state highway.

Khan moved Allahabad High Court challenging his conviction. After the Court dismissed his plea to stay his conviction in April 2023, he approached the Supreme Court.

Following this, Khan was disqualified from his position in the Assembly.

On September 26, 2023, the Supreme Court sought clarification from the district judge of Rampur regarding Khan’s date of birth. Later, his counsel submitted a report on his date of birth which favoured him.

On Tuesday, the Supreme Court asked the sessions court to decide Abdullah’s appeal within six months. (ANI)
