‘Adolescence’ Makes History As First Streaming Show To Top UK TV Ratings

The hit Netflix drama ‘Adolescence’ has made history by becoming the first streaming show to take the top spot in the UK’s weekly TV ratings, according to Variety.

According to official data from the Broadcasters Audience Research Board (BARB), the show outperformed popular traditional TV programs ‘The Apprentice’ and ‘Death in Paradise’, reported Variety.

The first episode of Adolescence drew 6.45 million viewers in its debut week, breaking the previous UK streaming record of 6.3 million set by Netflix’s Fool Me Once in January 2024.

Adolescence is a British crime drama miniseries created by Jack Thorne and Stephen Graham and directed by Philip Barantini.

The four-episode series follows the arrest of a 13-year-old schoolboy, Jamie Miller, played by Owen Cooper, who is accused of murdering a female classmate. What also makes the series a masterclass is that each episode is filmed in a single, continuous take.

Graham, who is co-creator of the show, also plays Eddie Miller, the father of the accused Jamie Miller.

The series premiered on Netflix on March 13 and has received widespread critical acclaim for its writing, direction, and performances.

Earlier, UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer also praised the series and said he watched it with his own teenage children. He also backed the idea of the crime drama being shown in the UK Parliament and in government schools. (ANI)

‘Rahul Jaise Kuch Namune Rehne Chahiye…’: CM Yogi Adityanath Attacks Congress

Calling Lok Sabha Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi a “namuna” (specimen) Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath alleged that the party wanted to keep “controversy” alive in Ayodhya.

In an interview with ANI, Chief Minister Adityanath raised questions on the work done by the Congress in the last ten decades.

“Ek Bharat ko Shresht Bharat nahi hona chahiye? You should ask them, then, what were they doing for six to ten decades? He should have asked his grandfather, grandmother and father. Why didn’t they do it at that time? The whole of India is getting support from Modi ji. Why didn’t the Congress do this? They always wanted to let the Ayodhya controversy remain a controversy. In Kashi’s Sankri Gali, they have been doing politics all their life in the name of Gandhi ji. But in 1916, Gandhi made strong remarks on Kashi’s Sankri Gali. Why did they not fulfil the dream of Mahatma Gandhi? His dream was fulfilled by PM Modi. Why did the Congress not abolish the three-talaq? Why did the Congress not promote the Kumbh with so much pride and divinity? Why did Congress fail to provide the world-class model of infrastructure in the country? And in Ayodhya, the construction of the Ram Mandir has also been done. Everyone is getting a glimpse of a new Ayodhya. Lakhs of people are coming every day to see it,” CM Adityanath told ANI.

The Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister further dubbed Rahul Gandhi’s ‘Bharat Jodo Yatra’ as ‘Bharat Todo Abhiyan’ and said that everyone was aware of his intentions.

“The Bharat Jodo Yatra is part of Bharat Todo Abhiyan. He criticises India outside India. The country has understood his nature and intentions. In India’s politics, Bharatiya Janata Party ke liye Rahul jaise kuch namune rehne chahiye jisse ek rasta hamesha ke liye saaf hota rahe aur acha rahe,” he added.

Rahul Gandhi had commenced the first leg of the Bharat Jodo Yatra from Kanyakumari on September 7, 2022 and concluded it on January 30 in Srinagar after covering 3,970 km, 12 states, and two Union territories and having lasted more than 130 days.

The Uttar Pradesh CM also attacked Congress ally and Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav and said that those who praised Jinnah shouldn’t teach us history.

“In our culture, it is said that the one who worships will become like that. We respect Ram, Krishna, Shiva, and worship them. So, in a way, their good qualities are also with us by their grace. Those (Opposition) who respect Aurangzeb and Babar will be able to see those qualities in them. People have seen it with their own eyes, and they will see it in the future as well. We know the history of those who glorify Jinnah. We remember that in this same Uttar Pradesh, we were joining the program of the run-up for the unity of the people’s leader, Vallabhbhai Patel. We had invited all the people of the country for this. We invited the BJP and all the parties. On the one hand, Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, who is the ideal of India’s unity, is the symbol of the unity of India. We expressed our faith in him, and these people glorified Jinnah. So this is the same category; this is the same breed that worships Babar, Aurangzeb, and Jinnah. So what will be their feelings towards the country? What will be their feelings towards India’s heritage? What will be their feelings towards the great men of India? This can be seen from this. And these people are opportunistic,” CM Adityanath said.

In November 2021, the Samajwadi Party chief had said, “Sardar Patel, Father of the Nation Mahatma Gandhi, Jawaharlal Nehru and (Muhammad Ali) Jinnah studied in the same institute and became barristers. They helped (India) get freedom and never backed away from any struggle.” (ANI)

Auto Driver’s Daughter Roshni Tops Bihar Class 12 Exams

In a heartwarming tale of perseverance and determination, Roshni Kumari, daughter of an auto driver from Bihar’s Vaishali district, has emerged as the state topper in the commerce stream of the Bihar Class 12 board exams.

Roshni’s journey to success is a testament to her hard work and family support. Despite facing financial constraints, she enrolled in a government school and pursued her dreams. Her mother’s motivation and teachers’ encouragement played a significant role in her achievement.

Speaking about her achievement, Roshni said, “My father is an auto driver. Due to financial constraints, I left my previous school and got myself enrolled in a government school… My mother motivated me a lot. Earlier, I had decided to do CA after the 12th, but looking at our financial condition, I dropped that idea and thought of doing CS. My teachers told me not to worry about money and they will support me…”

Roshni’s story inspires students from humble backgrounds, demonstrating that with dedication and support, anyone can achieve their dreams.

Antara Khushi secured the second rank in the commerce stream across the state. Expressing her joy, Antara credited her achievement to the unwavering support of her parents and teachers.

“I want to dedicate this success to my parents and teachers,” said Antara Khushi, speaking about her accomplishment. She revealed that her preparation involved a disciplined routine, studying 6-8 hours daily on a regular basis, which she intensified to 10-12 hours as the exams approached. “My parents and teachers supported me and motivated me the most,” she added

It is noteworthy that this time, in BSEB (Bihar School Examination Board) a total of 12,80,211 students appeared for the intermediate examination, out of which 11,07,330 students have passed, accounting for 86.50 percent of the total candidates. CM Kumar also wished all successful students a bright future and commended the Bihar School Examination Board (BSEB) and the Education Department for publishing the results within a short period. (ANI)

‘Hawa-Hawai’ Budget: Atishi Criticises Delhi Budget

Atishi, the leader of the Opposition in the Delhi Legislative Assembly, on Tuesday strongly criticized the Delhi Budget 2025-26 presented by the BJP-led government, calling it a “Hawa-Hawai” budget.

Speaking to the media, Atishi argued that the budget has no basis, as the Delhi government won’t be able to generate the proposed Rs 1 lakh crore revenue.

“If today’s budget, which the BJP has tabled in the House, is described in one word, then it is a ‘Hawa-Hawai’ budget. This Rs 1 lakh crore budget has no basis. The Delhi government is not going to get Rs 1 lakh crore revenue from anywhere,” said Atishi.

Atishi questioned the absence of the Economic Survey, which she believes would have provided a clear picture of the city’s financial situation. She claimed that the BJP’s intention is to destroy the system of government schools in Delhi, as the education budget has been reduced to 19%, the lowest in 10 years.

“Why was the Economic Survey not tabled in the House? They have presented a baseless budget in the House. If you look at the percentage allocation, for the first time in 10 years, the education budget has gone below 20%. For the first time, only 19% budget has been allocated to education. This shows that the intention of the BJP is to destroy the system of government schools in Delhi,” said Atishi.

Furthermore, Atishi pointed out that the health budget has been decreased to 13%, which may lead to an end to free treatment in government hospitals and mohalla clinics. She also criticized the reduction of the MCD budget by Rs 1500 crores, which she believes will harm the sanitation system in Delhi.

“For the first time, the budget for health has come down to just 13%. This shows that the BJP intends to end the free treatment that every person in Delhi is getting in government hospitals and mohalla clinics. And thirdly, the MCD budget has been reduced by Rs 1500 crores to destroy the sanitation system in Delhi…,” she added.

In contrast, Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta presented the budget as a “historic” step towards transforming Delhi into an investment and innovation-friendly city.

With a total allocation of Rs 1 lakh crore, this budget is expected to drive growth, development, and improvement in the quality of life for Delhi’s residents.

The budget has seen a significant rise of 31.58% from the previous year, with a total allocation of Rs1 lakh crore for various sectors, including education, transport, and urban development.

“In 2024-2025, the budget was Rs 76,000 crore, and this time, the budget is Rs 1 lakh crore, which is an increase of 31.58 per cent. We can call it the biggest increase in any budget in the country,” said Gupta. (ANI)

Raghav: China Has DeepSeek, US Has ChatGPT—Where Is India In AI?

Aam Aadmi Party MP Raghav Chadha on Tuesday highlighted India’s position in the global Artificial Intelligence race, drawing attention to the dominance of the USA and China in AI innovation.

In his speech in the Rajya Sabha, Chadha called for India to become an AI producer by developing indigenous AI chips, establishing an AI Infrastructure Fund, and curbing the migration of top-tier AI talent.

“China has DeepSeek, the US has ChatGPT, Grok, but where does India stand in this era of Artificial Intelligence?” he asked.

India is taking significant strides in the global AI race, but there’s still a long way to go. India has the talent, brainpower, and digital economy to become an AI producer, but it currently lags behind, capturing only 0.5 per cent of the world’s AI patents between 2010 and 2022.

“Between 2010 and 2022, 60 percent of the world’s AI patents were registered by the USA, and 20 percent by China. India, the fifth-largest economy in the world, managed to capture only half a per cent. It is true that the USA and China have a head start of four to five years, but this is because they have invested in their research, academia, and AI development,” Chadha said.

The AAP MP also highlighted that India’s strengths lie in its thriving startup ecosystem, with dozens of unicorns deploying AI-powered tools. The country is also home to a significant portion of the AI workforce, with 15 per cent of the total AI workforce consisting of Indians.

However, many of these professionals are working in foreign countries, highlighting the need to curb talent migration.

“It is said that 15 per cent of the total AI workforce consists of Indians. Around 4,50,000 Indian AI professionals are working in foreign countries. This means that India has talent, hardworking people, brainpower, and a digital economy. However, despite all this, India has become a consumer of AI today, not a producer,” Raghav Chadha said.

To become an AI producer, India needs to develop indigenous AI chips, establish an AI Infrastructure Fund, and retain its top-tier AI talent.

“The time has come when India should become an AI producer rather than an AI consumer. For this, we need to start making indigenous AI chips in the country. We should start an AI Infra Fund. We should also stop talent migration so that India’s top-tier AI talent remains in the country,” he emphasised.

Last month, Prime Minister Narendra Modi addressed the Artificial Intelligence Summit in Paris and said that AI can help transform millions of lives by improving health, agriculture, education etc.

Stating that AI can help create a world in which the journey to Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) becomes “easier and faster”, the Prime Minister called on the world to pull together resources and talent for AI.

In his address at the AI Action Summit, PM Modi said, “AI can help transform millions of lives by improving health, education, agriculture and so much more. It can help create a world in which the journey to sustainable development goals becomes easier and faster. To do this, we must pull together resources and talent. We must develop open-source systems that enhance trust and transparency.”(ANI)

Lok Sabha Passes Finance Bill, 2025

The Lok Sabha passed the Finance Bill 2025 on Tuesday, with Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman stating that the government has sought to do several things in the legislation as per the aspirations and expectations of people and the goal of making India a developed country by 2047.

The bill was passed after the House adopted the amendments moved by the Finance Minister. The debate on the bill began on Monday.

“This Finance Bill, we have attempted to do several things, which as per as the aspiration and the expectation of the people of India and also the goal that the Prime Minister has given us towards the Viksit Bharat by 2047,” Sitharaman said.

She said the bill aims to provide tax certainty.

“It rationalises a lot of provisions which are towards ease of doing business and also provides unprecedented tax relief,” she said.

The minister talked about the tax relief provided to people in the union budget and the government’s nudge to increase tax mobilisation from those who have foreign assets.

She gave reply to the queries raised by members including on the GST.

Participating in the discussion, opposition members accused the government of “patchwork solutions” and “flawed GST”.

The BJP members lauded the economic performance of the government saying that country’s GDP has more than doubled in the last 10 years.

Congress MP Shashi Tharoor said that the government’s economic management faces deep-rooted structural challenges.

He took potshots at Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman. “Looking at this year’s Finance Bill… I think she has slightly changed her tune. She is now telling taxpayers, ‘I couldn’t repair the roof, so I bought you an umbrella.’ This Finance Bill is a classic case of patchwork solutions at a time when the nation needs clarity, conviction, and decisive leadership. The government’s economic management find itself in grasp of deep rooted structural challenges. We have seen growth targets being scaled down, double-digit growth is apparently unattainable and the ambitions of maintaining a respectable growth rate is fading away,” he said.

“The portion of our population engaged in agriculture is higher than ever while manufacturing has shrunk around 15 per cent of the GDP. Even those who are earning five or six times per-capita income are now struggling to maintain their standard of living. So ‘Viksit Bharat’ by 2047 is a laudable objective for a quarter century from now but how does this Finance Bill begin to get us there,” Tharoor asked.

He said it has taken government years to finally realize that just two per cent of Indians, the hardworking taxpayers, have been carrying this country on their back.

“Individual taxpayers, mainly the salaried middle-class are already contributing more than the corporations last year and yet no action was taken. In the current financial year, the corporate taxes have crawled up by eight per cent while individual and non-corporate taxes have soared by 21 per cent. Now, the government finally wakes up and gives some tax breaks to salaried middle class. Who else is financing the government? The Aam Aadmi, through indirect taxes, most notoriously GST. Beyond exorbitant rates, our system carries the dubious distinction of being the most complex tax system in the world. While 77 countries have GST, they impose only one or two tax slabs,” he said.

BJP MP Nishikant Dubey said Union Budget benefits the common man.”Under the leadership of Prime Minister, the country’s economy has more than doubled in the last 10 years, and the Congress has no connection with the nation’s economy. The budget that benefits the common man and labourers has only come under the Modi government,” Dubey said.

“The tax-to-GDP ratio is at its highest ever. The Congress, which gave a clean chit to the corrupt involved in the Bofors scandal, is now demanding a tax account. The Congress, which imposed taxes as high as 94 per cent on the people of this country, has never done anything for the common man,” he alleged.”

The Modi government has reduced taxes on imported generic medicines and lowered import duties on machines used in fish farming and handloom industries,” he added.

Trinamool Congress MP Mahua Moitra accused the government of mismanagement.”Albert Einstein famously said that the hardest thing in the world is to understand the Income Tax. Similarly, we find it very hard to understand why this government’s taxation policy continues to widen the stark divide between the two Indias. A Kuber’s India for the elite and privileged and another Vishwakarma’s India for the masses who are bearing the blunt of this government’s economic mismanagement,” Moitra said.

She also mentioned that according to the Finance Ministry, there are eight crore people who file taxes, out of which, only 56 lakh earn more than 15 lakh per annum.”In December 2024, in reply to a parliamentary question, the Finance Ministry said that there are 8 crore people in this country who file taxes. But out of that, only 56 lakh people earned more than 15 lakh per annum. These 56 lakh individuals are the engines of India’s entrepreneurial and services economy. They are the only ones effectively paying direct income tax. Now with the new structure, those earing upto 12 and a half lakhs per annum will pay zero tax. Let’s be clear that income tax is liveable only on 56 lakh people out of 140 crore population. Yet, we have a massive income tax department with supernormal, snooping police like powers and unchecked discretion operating under the pretend of enforcement,” the TMC MP said.

“The 56 lakh people at least have a graded tax system but for the rest of India, i.e., Vishwakarma India, there is no relief. For the 139 crore people in Vishwakarma’s India, GST is the great equaliser but in the most regressive way possible. In Financial year 2023-24, the government of India collected 20 lakh crores in GST which comes to about Rs 15,000 per person. So a billionaire and a daily wage earner, both pay GST on food, transport and essential commodities. The government has done nothing to alleviate this burden. There is no discussion on reducing indirect taxes on essential commodities and no roadmap to ensure fair wealth distribution,” she added.

The government had presented union budget on February 1. The passing of Finance Bill marks the end of budget process in Parliament. (ANI)

People Of Tamil Nadu Want The NEP: Annamalai

Tamil Nadu BJP President K Annamalai on Tuesday defended the National Education Policy (NEP), underlining its positive impact on the state. He announced a series of seven additional conferences across Tamil Nadu in support of the NEP.

Speaking to the media, the Tamil Nadu BJP Chief highlighted that the policy offers flexibility regarding the third language, a shift from previous education policies that mandated Hindi.

“With respect to the National Education Policy, on Sunday, we opened our first conference (in support of NEP) in Trichy. We are doing seven more conferences across Tamil Nadu. The ground is very clear; the people of Tamil Nadu want the NEP. The people of Tamil Nadu want a third language that is not imposed on them,” Annamalai said.

“Be it the first National Education Policy 1968, where Hindi was made compulsory as a third language. In the second National Education Policy in 1986, Hindi was made compulsory as a third language. It was the Congress party which was destroying our country by trying to impose one language on certain states. This National Education Policy, for the very first time, has made the third language not compulsory as Hindi. How is the BJP destroying our country’s fabric by bringing the National Education Policy? Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi should get his facts and history right,” he said.

Further, he also asserted that the BJP is ready for an alliance with any party whose only aim is to dethrone the DMK from Tamil Nadu.

“The BJP continues to be strong. The current NDA continues to be strong. Our doors and windows are always open for any leader to come and join the NDA to strengthen it. Anybody joining us with the only aim of dethroning DMK, everybody is welcome,” Annamalai said.

Meanwhile, Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin on Monday announced that all-party parliamentarians from the state will meet Prime Minister Narendra Modi to push for their demand for fair delimitation.

Stalin emphasised that Tamil Nadu had led the charge on the issue by passing a legislative resolution, holding an all-party meeting, and forming an all-India Joint Action Committee, making a significant impact at the national level.

“The demand made by Tamil Nadu is for fair delimitation. It is the first state in India to pass a legislative resolution, an all-party meeting, and an all-India Joint Action Committee, which has had an impact on the Indian level. To take this to the next level, all-party parliamentarians from Tamil Nadu are set to meet the Honourable Prime Minister and press our demand!” posted Stalin on X.

The Tamil Nadu government has been vocal about its opposition to any delimitation process that could reduce the state’s representation in Parliament due to population control efforts.

The proposed meeting with the Prime Minister aims to ensure that Tamil Nadu’s concerns are addressed in any future changes to parliamentary seat allocation.

Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin called a Joint Action Committee meeting on Saturday to discuss the issue of delimitation. Leaders from various states gathered in Chennai to express their concerns with the proposed exercise.

The Joint Action Committee also passed a resolution on the issue of delimitation, expressing concern over the “lack of transparency and clarity” from the Union government.

The JAC unanimously demanded greater transparency from the Union government regarding any delimitation exercise and called for the extension of the freeze on Parliamentary constituencies based on the 1971 Census Population for another 25 years.

The JAC, led by Tamil Nadu CM MK Stalin, urged the central government to “not penalise” the states which have effectively implemented the population control program. (ANI)
