‘The Best Chaser Ever Seen’: Smith Hails Virat Following Loss in CT Semis

Following his team’s loss in the semifinal of the ICC Champions Trophy, Australian skipper Steve Smith hailed Virat Kohli as the “best chaser the game has ever seen”.

In a high-stakes clash dominated by echoes of the past, India avenged its 2023 final heartbreak by sending Australia through the exit door with an exhilarating four-wicket triumph in Dubai on Tuesday night. Virat’s chase masterclass once again grabbed the spotlight as his perfectly-calculated knock of 84 runs guided India to a four-wicket win over Australia, lifting them from 43/2 to a successful run chase of 265 runs, which was proving to be tricky initially. Once again, the 36-year-old made a tough run-chase look like a cakewalk and re-wrote several records in the process.

Speaking after the match in the post-match presser, Smith said about Virat, “He is arguably the best chaser the game has seen. He has done it numerous times against us. He controls the tempo of the game really well,” the Australian skipper said.

Smith hailed India for managing to keep the run-rate in check throughout during the run-chase and felt Aussies were a wicket or two away from changing the game.

“But yeah, KL played really nicely at the end and Hardik did as well. So yeah, we took it as deep as we could, but yeah, they obviously chased really nicely,” he added.

Speaking on playing in Pakistan’s Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore and at Dubai International Stadium, Smith said that both pitches were “completely different”.

“This one is quite slow, two-paced, took some spin. I think the Gaddafi track is arguably one of the best one-day wickets in the world for batting. The ball skids on nicely, the outfield is lightning and yeah there is definite differences there,” he added.

Speaking on his own dismissal, Smith lamented the fact that he missed out on a full toss from Mohammed Shami which went through his stumps.

“My plan was kind of to try and put the seamers under a bit more pressure and just rotate the spin but I did not do it very well. I obviously lost my wicket at probably a crucial stage as well so- had I batted a little bit deeper I potentially could have got up, as we said before, near 300 or something. Alex (Carey) was batting really nicely up the other end so yeah disappointing time to get out but that is the game sometimes,” he added.

Coming to the match, Australia won the toss and elected to bat first. After an early wicket of Cooper Connolly, Travis Head (39 in 33 balls, with four boundaries and two sixes) had a 50-run stand with Steve Smith. Smith carried on, with half-century stands against Marnus Labuschagne (29 in 36 balls, with two fours and a six) and Alex Carey (61 in 57 balls, with eight fours and a six). Carey was there till 48th over, untill a fine direct hit from Shreyas Iyer ended his knock.

Australia was skittled out for 264 in 49.3 overs.

Shami (3/48) was the top bowler for India, while Varun Chakravarthy (2/49) and Ravindra Jadeja (2/40) also unleashed a spin web. Axar Patel and Hardik Pandya took a wicket each.

During the run chase, India lost skipper Rohit Sharma (28 in 29 balls, with three fours and a six) and Shubman Gill (8) early and were reduced to 43/2. From then on, a 91-run partnership between Virat and Shreyas Iyer (45 in 62 balls, with three fours) brought India back into the game. Virat also had a brief 44-run stand with Axar Patel (27 in 30 balls, with a four and six) and a 47-run stand with KL Rahul (42* in 34 balls, with two fours and two sixes).

Hardik delivered a brief and fiery cameo, scoring 28 in 24 balls, with a four and three sixes, helping India seal a win. India finished at 267/6 in 48.1 overs.

Nathan Ellis (2/48) and Adam Zampa (2/60) were the top bowlers for Australia. (ANI)

Here’s Why Nayanthara Does Not Want To Be Called ‘Lady Superstar’ By Her Fans

In a heartfelt note to her fans, actor Nayanthara has requested that they stop referring to her as ‘Lady Superstar’ and instead call her by her name.

The actor expressed her gratitude to her fans for their “unconditional love and affection” but explained that titles can sometimes create a distance between her and her work.

Nayanthara took to her official X handle to share her thoughts, writing, “My life has been an open book that has always found its adornment with your unconditional love and affection. Be it the pat on my shoulder during my success or extending your hand to lift me during hardships, you have always been there for me.”

The actor acknowledged that the title ‘Lady Superstar’ was born out of her fans’ affection, but she humbly requested that they call her by her name instead.

“I feel that the name is what I hold closest to my heart. It represents who I am–not just as an actor but as an individual,” she explained.

Nayanthara emphasized that titles and accolades can sometimes create an image that separates her from her work and the bond she shares with her audience.

‘India Charges us Auto Tariffs Higher Than 100%’: Trump Vows Reciprocal Tax

US President Donald Trump targeted India’s import duties in speech to a joint session of Congress on Tuesday (local time). Trump specifically targetted India’s tariffs on automobile imports saying, “India charges us auto tariffs higher than 100%”,

While addressing a joint session of the US Congress, Trump said that the reciprocal tax will kick in on April 2. He said that the US has been ripped off for decades by nearly every country on earth and vowed not to “let that happen any longer.”

Trump said, ” Under the Trump administration, you will pay a tariff and in some cases a rather large one. Other countries have used tariffs against us for decades and now it’s our turn to start using them against those other countries. On average the European Union China, Brazil India Mexico and Canada have you heard of them and countless other nations charge us tremendously higher tariffs than we charge them. It’s very unfair. India charges us auto tariffs higher than 100 percent.”

He also spoke about the tariffs imposed by the European Union, China, Brazil and Mexico and announced that the US will impose tariffs on other nations based on what they do to the US.

“China’s average tariff on our products is twice what we charge them. And South Korea’s average tariff is four times higher. Think of that four times higher and we give so much help militarily and in so many other ways to South Korea. But that’s what happens, this is happening by friend and foe.”

Stressing that the system is “not fair to the US”, Trump said, “This system is not fair to the United States and never was. And so on April 2nd, I wanted to make it April 1st, but I didn’t want to be accused of April Fool’s Day. That’s not — this one day was — cost us a lot of money. But we’re going to do it in April. I’m a very superstitious person. April 2nd, reciprocal tariffs kick in. And whatever they tariff us, other countries, we will tariff them.”

The US President also voweed to Tax the countries who were taxing the US and claimed that the US had been ripped off for years by every country on Earth.

“That’s reciprocal, back and forth. Whatever they tax us, we will tax them. If they do non-monetary tariffs to keep us out of their market, then we will do non-monetary barriers to keep them out of our market. There’s a lot of that, too. They don’t even allow us in their market. We will take in trillions and trillions of dollars and create jobs like we have never seen before. I did it with China, and I did it with others. And the Biden administration couldn’t do anything about it because there was so much money. They couldn’t do anything about it. We have been ripped off for decades by nearly every country on Earth, and we will not let that happen any longer,” he said.

Trump said that his administration has accomplished more in 43 days than most administrations in four years or eight years and “we have just started.” He stated that the US is on the “verge of a comeback, the likes of which has never witnessed.”

He said, “Six weeks ago, I stood beneath the dome of this capitol and proclaimed the dawn of the golden age of America. From that moment on it has been nothing but swift and unrelenting action to usher in the greatest and most successful era in the history of our country. We have accomplished more in 43 days than most administrations accomplished in four years or eight years, and we are just getting started… Our spirit is back, our pride is back, and our confidence is back and American Dream is surging bigger and better than ever before. The American dream is unstoppable and our country is on the verge of a comeback, the likes of which has never witnessed and perhaps will never witness again.”

Trump said that there is “absolutely nothing I can say” or do to make Democratic lawmakers happy. He said, “This is my fifth such speech to Congress. And once again, I look at the Democrats in front of me and I realize there is absolutely nothing I can say to make them happy or to make them stand or smile or applaud. Nothing I can do.”

He further said, “I could find a cure to the most devastating disease, a disease that would wipe out entire nations, or announce the answers to the greatest economy in history, or the stoppage of crime to the lowest levels ever recorded. And these people sitting right here will not clap, will not stand, and certainly will not cheer for these astronomical achievements. They won’t do it, no matter what. Five times I’ve been up here. It’s very sad, and it just shouldn’t be this way.”

He said that he has signed nearly 100 executive orders and taken more than 400 executive actions since assuming office on January 20.

“Over the past 6 weeks, I have signed nearly 100 Executive Orders and taken more than 400 Executive Actions – a record to restore common sense, safety, optimism and wealth all across our wonderful land. The people elected me to do the job and I am doing it,” he’s said.

He spoke about declaring a national emergency on the southern border. He even criticised former US President Joe Biden, calling him the “worst President in American history.”

He said, “Within hours of taking the oath of office, I declared a national emergency on our southern border. I deployed US military and border patrol to repel the invasion of our country and what a job they have done! As a result, illegal border crossings last month were by far the lowest ever recorded…In comparison, under Joe Biden – the worst President in American history, there were hundreds of thousands of illegal crossings a month…” (ANI)

CT 2025: Virat’s Masterclass Sends India To Final

Virat Kohli delivered a chase masterclass to knock Australia out of the tournament and send India to the final with a four-wicket win in the first semi-final of the Champions Trophy on Tuesday in Dubai.

India finally savoured the sweet taste of revenge of the 2023 ODI World Cup heartbreak, which now became a distant memory as India relished its four-wicket victory in the semi-final.

By chasing down a competitive 265-run target, India toppled the record by completing its highest-successful run chase against Australia in an ICC event, bettering the previous best chase of 261 in the 2011 World Cup quarter-final.

India began its pursuit of the 265-run target with a touch of caution. Shubman Gill looked jittery in his approach, while India’s captain, Rohit Sharma, remained undaunted and stuck to his early blitzkrieg approach.

In his policy of playing fearless cricket, Rohit received his first lifelines when Cooper Connolly dropped a sitter. He received a second chance after Marnus Labuschagne sprinted towards the ball and got hold of it but eventually fluffed it as he landed on the ground.

With India showing signs of nerves getting the better of them, Australia saw the opening and capitalised on the opportunity. Ben Dwarshuis drew the first blood with a delivery angling into the right-handed star. Gill tried to dab it to third man and dragged the ball straight into the stumps.

Rohit soon followed in his footsteps after being pinned in front of the stumps by Connolly on 28(29). Virat initiated the recovery phase with Shreyas Iyer and laid the foundation for India’s success.

Virat relied on his basics and trademark style, while Shreyas added a couple of unorthodox shots from his artillery. The duo raised a 91-run partnership before Adam Zampa castled Shreyas on 45(62).

Axar Patel came in, played a couple of shots, and departed with a score of 27(30). Virat took a step closer towards his 52nd ODI century, with KL Rahul maintaining his strike rate at 100 to steer India towards victory.

Virat tried to up the ante and finish the job early for India by taking the fight against Zampa. He tried to slog it but connected with the bottom of his bat. The ball sailed to Dwarshuis, who took a straightforward catch to bring an end to Virat’s knock on 84(98).

With the ball-to-run ratio going neck and neck, Hardik Pandya blazed back-to-back towering sixes off Zampa to turn the momentum in India’s favour.

Hardik (28) tried to put the final nail in the coffin by seeing off the game in style. He went for glory but holed it straight to Glenn Maxwell. KL Rahul finished it off in style and smoked the ball into the stands over wide long-on to send India to the final.

Earlier in the match, after Australia elected to bat first after winning the toss, they were off to a poor start as the experiment to have Cooper Connolly open did not pay off, with him going for a nine-ball duck after being caught behind by KL Rahul on a Mohammed Shami delivery. Australia was 4/1 in three overs.

Travis Head eased off some pressure, hitting Hardik Pandya for a four and a six and then smashing a hat-trick of boundaries against Shami. He continued his assault for a while until Varun Chakravarthy was introduced to the attack.

Australia reached the 50-run mark in 7.2 overs.

The spinner, who had taken a fifer in the previous match, once again emerged as a hero, getting the crucial wicket of Head for 39 in 33 balls, with four boundaries and two sixes. Shubman Gill completed a fine catch at long-off. Australia was 54/2 in 8.2 overs.

At the end of 10 overs, Australia was 63/2, with Smith (17) and Marnus Labuschagne (1) unbeaten.

The run-rate was squeezed off for a while by Indian spinners until Labuschagne played some shots and brought Australia’s 100 runs in 19.5 overs.

Jadeja ended the 56-run stand, trapping Labuschagne leg before wicket for 29 in 36 balls, with two fours and a six. Australia is 110/3 in 22.3 overs.

Smith reached his half-centuries in 68 balls, with four boundaries, continuing his fine run in knockouts.

Jadeja once again broke a promising partnership with an easy catch by Virat Kohli at cover, removing Josh Inglis for 11. Australia was 144/4 in 27 overs.

Alex Carey was next up on the crease. With his arrival, Australia started scoring runs at a faster rate as he took down Kuldeep and Hardik for two fours and Varun for a six.

However, the aspirations for a 300-plus total took a massive dent as Shami cleaned up Smith’s stumps for 73 in 96 balls, with four boundaries and a six. Australia was 198/5 in 36.4 overs.

Glenn Maxwell arrived on the crease, smashing a six, before perishing to a fine straight delivery from Axar for seven runs in five balls. Australia was 205/6 in 37.3 overs.

Carey continued his fine run at number six, scoring his 11th ODI fifty in 49 balls, with seven fours and a six. Ben Dwarshuis also joined the party with some shots against spin.

The partnership between Carey and Ben did not last very long as the latter was removed by Varun while taking the aerial route. Shreyas Iyer took a fine catch at mid-wicket, removing Ben for 19 in 29 balls, with a four and six. Australia was 239/7 in 45.3 overs.

A fine direct hit from Shreyas spelled the end of Carey’s brilliant knock of 60 in 57 balls, with eight fours and a six. Australia was 249/8 in 47.1 overs.

India reached the 250-run mark in 47.2 overs.

A fine catch from Virat ended Nathan’s brief cameo of 10 in seven balls, giving Shami his third wicket. Australia was 262/9 in 49 overs. Hardik cleaned up Zampa, bundling out Australia for 264 in 49.3 overs. (ANI)

New Rail Link Connecting Dharmanagar To Kailashahar Soon: Tripura CM

Tripura Chief Minister Manik Saha on Tuesday announced that the state would get another railway track connecting Dharmanagar in the North District to Kailashahar of Unakoti District.

Additionally, the state’s tallest building, housing all directorates under one roof, will come up at Gurkhabasti, Agartala.

The Chief Minister made this announcement after inaugurating and laying the foundation stone for various projects in Unakoti District.

“This is indeed a happy moment for the people of Kailashahar Sub-division as we are laying the foundation stones for various projects worth Rs 162 crore. A few days ago, the first ALIMCO Auxiliary Production Centre for artificial limb production in the Northeast was set up in Bishalgarh. Similarly, one after another, companies are coming to Tripura. Prime Minister Narendra Modi wants the Northeast to become self-sufficient,” he said.

The event was held at the BDO office complex at Chandipur, Kailashahar.

Saha criticized opposition parties for frequently claiming that they do not see any development in Tripura.

“I want to remind them that when PM Modi conducted the surgical strike, the opposition also asked for proof. That’s why I say, whenever we inaugurate any project, opposition leaders should come and witness the development. PM Modi has always said that without developing the Northeast, India’s overall development is not possible, and this work has already begun. Before the 2018 Assembly elections, PM Modi said that if the BJP formed the government, he would implement the HIRA model. He has delivered on that promise by strengthening internet connectivity, national highways, and railway infrastructure in Tripura. Airways have also seen significant development,” the CM said.

Further, he mentioned that the development was possible by the double engine government.

“This is real development, made possible by the double-engine government. Peace and good law and order are necessary for development, and since PM Modi came to power, several peace pacts have been signed, restoring peace in the Northeast,” the CM stated.

He further mentioned that many investors are coming to Tripura due to the transparent governance and peaceful environment in the state.

“A few days ago, we held an investor summit where around 87 investors signed MoUs with Tripura worth Rs 3,700 crore across different sectors. Such developments were never seen before. In terms of GSDP, Tripura is now in the second position in the Northeast. Per capita income has also increased. We are focusing on industrial growth through MSMEs. During my recent meeting with Union Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw, he assured me that work on railway infrastructure would continue and confirmed that another railway track from Dharmanagar to Kailashahar would be developed soon. People have trusted us and given us power for the second time. They have faith in us. Our government is working to solve problems, whereas the previous government used to create them,” he said.

“We have also decided to construct the tallest building in Tripura at Gurkhabasti, spending Rs 134 crore, where all directorates will come under one roof. Construction of a G+14 multi-storeyed office building is already underway,” he added.

Later, Saha handed over a cheque of Rs 9,07,875 to the family of Late Ramjoy Pal, a tea worker of Chandipur Assembly area, who lost his life in an unfortunate accident.

Saha also prayed to God to give strength to the bereaved family to overcome this difficult situation.

The event was attended by Social Welfare and Social Education Minister Tinku Roy, Unakoti District Sabhadhipati Amalendu Das, TIDC Chairman Nabadal Banik, Waqf Board Chairman Mawaswar Ali, Unakoti District Magistrate DK Chakma, Superintendent of Police Kanta Jahangir, and other dignitaries. (ANI)

I’m Not God, Will Rectify: Shivakumar On ‘Nut, Bolt’ Outburst

Following the uproar over his “nuts and bolts” comment on Karnataka actors, Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar stated on Tuesday that he is “not a God” and will rectify his comments, in case he has done anything wrong.

This comes after the Karnataka Deputy CM slammed the film fraternity at the inauguration of the Bengaluru International Film Festival, for low turnout of the actors and said he knows “how to tighten the nuts and bolts” of these actors.

“We may not be right and polished…let me rectify it. I am not God, so if I have done anything wrong, I will rectify it, but I am speaking in the best interest of the (film) industry. I am also from the industry…I have an interest in this industry,” Shivakumar told reporters here.

“We conducted the International Film Festival in Bengaluru, and next year, I am planning to organise IFFA (International Indian Film Academy Awards) in Bengaluru,” he added.

Shivakumar’s remarks drew a lot of flak from the Bharatiya Janata Party, which accused the Deputy CM of ‘threatening’ actors.

BJP leader CN Ashwath Narayan condemned the statement, and alleged that the Congress government in Karnataka is asking the artists to be part of the Congress campaign.

Speaking to ANI, Narayan said, “As a responsible govt, such a threatening statement by people in power, is not right…the Congress govt in Karnataka threatening, ‘we know how to tighten your bolts and nuts’, what do you mean by that? This kind of threat is not fair and advisable…we condemn the statement by Dy CM…ill-treating actors and Kannada film industry, asking them to be part of Congress campaign and their agenda, what kind of mindset Congress have?” (ANI)
