Quinton de Kock Shines with Blazing 97 in IPL 2025

With an unbeaten 97-run blitzkrieg against Rajasthan Royals, Quinton de Kock etched his name in the history books by posting the highest individual score for Kolkata Knight Riders in run-chases in the Indian Premier League.

Quinton made Rajasthan’s home turf in Assam his favourite playground with his searing strokeplay. He toyed with the Royals’ bowling unit, handpicked his favourite shots and executed them according to his will.

He began the 152-run pursuit of the defending champions and struck the winning runs in style to open KKR’s win account in the ongoing 18th edition of the cash-rich league.

Quinton’s 97* from 61 deliveries is the highest individual score for the three-time champions in a run-chase. With his scorching form, he toppled Manish Pandey’s 11-year-old record.

Manish had a firm grasp of the elusive feat for 11 years after he slammed 94 against Punjab Kings in the IPL 2014 final in Bengaluru. Chris Lynn’s sizzling 93* against Gujarat Lions in Rajkot in 2017, slipped to the third spot.

Lynn’s heroics were followed by Manvinder Bisla’s 92 against Chennai Super Kings in 2013 and Gautam Gambhir’s 90* against Sunrisers Hyderabad in 2016.

Quinton singlehandedly tore apart Rajasthan’s threadbare bowling attack with his chivalrous display with the bat. The experienced southpaw made the beleaguered hosts tilt at the windmills with his relentless onslaught at Barsapara Cricket Stadium.

After KKR restricted the Royals to a sub-par 151/9, Quinton set the tempo of the chase by dictating the terms of play. Even though the visitors lost Moeen Ali early in the chase, the South African went about his business to keep the pressure off his side’s shoulders.

He found some support from skipper Ajinkya Rahane and, later, from impact substitute Angkrish Raghuvanshi. The game’s fate was clear after Quinton steered KKR through the middle phase, majorly unscathed.

In the 18th over, he looked in a rush to wrap up the match by launching a scathing assault on Jofra Archer. The English tearaway looked out of his wits when Quinton sent the first ball racing towards the boundary rope for a four.

He followed it up by smoking the ball into the stands. After two wides on the trot, Quinton tonked it long-on with a flashy shot to finish the game with his swag. (ANI)

Gold Dealer Sent To DRI Custody, Bail Hearing For Ranya Rao In Gold Smuggling Case Today

Gold dealer Sahil Jain, who allegedly helped actor Ranya Rao sell smuggled gold, has been sent to DRI custody till March 29.

Meanwhile, Ranya Rao’s bail application in the 64th CCH Session court, which was reserved, will be pronounced today.

Ranya Rao was arrested on March 3 at Bengaluru’s Kempegowda International Airport after officials from the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) found her carrying gold. The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) later filed an FIR based on a complaint by Abhishek Chandra Gupta, Additional Director of DRI.

The FIR was registered under the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988, along with several sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Samhita (BNS). According to the complaint, two foreign nationals were arrested at Mumbai Airport on March 6 for attempting to smuggle 21.28 kg of gold into India, valued at Rs. 18.92 crore.

According to the complaint, after Ranya Rao’s arrest on March 3, two foreign nationals were also arrested on March 6 from Mumbai airport for attempting to smuggle 21.28 kg of gold into India worth Rs. 18.92 crore, as per the complaint.

The CBI has filed an FIR in the gold smuggling case on the complaint of Abhishek Chandra Gupta, Additional Director of DRI.

The FIR has been registered under Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988 and various sections of Bharatiya Nyaya Samhita (BNS) on the complaint of Abhishek Chandra Gupta. The complaint discloses the cognizable offences U/s 7 and 12 of Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988 (as amended in 20148) r/w 61(2) of BNS.

Abhishek Chandra Gupta, Additional Director of DRI, in his complaint, has said that these cases involving passengers making trips from Dubai and attempting to smuggle gold in large quantities point to a “possible nexus” with a coordinated smuggling syndicate, possibly operating from Dubai (UAE).

In Ranya Rao’s case, she travelled to Dubai multiple times, while the two arrested foreign nationals had previously arrived at the Mumbai airport multiple times.

Gupta in his complaint, also suspected the possibility of the involvement of public servants and others. (ANI)

‘Very Active And Intense Discussion Going On Between India, US At This Time’: Jaishankar

External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar said that India and the US had a “very open discussion” on trade and the result of that Prime Minister Narendra Modi and US President Donald Trump agreed to conclude bilateral trade agreement by fall this year.

In conversation with Kyung-wha Kang of Asia Society in Delhi on Wednesday, Jaishankar mentioned that there has been a “very active and intense trade discussion” between India and the US at this point and recalled the Union Minister of Commerce and Industry Piyush Goyal’s visit to the US in February.

Asked about trade agreements between India and US, Jaisahnkar responded, “When we went to Washington in February when Prime Minister went and the discussions that he had with President Trump, I think overall our assessment was that we saw many changes which suited us or which in some ways formed a convergence on which we could build upon. Let me give you a few examples. Let’s take defence. We saw a president who was much more open and much more active in terms of building a security defence partnership and much more forthcoming about American technology possibilities.”

Notably, India and the US are gearing up to negotiate a landmark Bilateral Trade Agreement (BTA) that could potentially boost trade between the two nations amid US President Donald Trump’s plans to impose reciprocal tariffs on US trading partners, including India.

“Our own experience in the first term, in his first term was that he personally took an interest in ensuring that some of the platforms which we had an interest in, which we wanted, which were sort of meandering their way somewhere through American bureaucracy, that he stepped in and made sure that this happened. This time around he we suddenly heard a recognition. that you know there has to be a better way of engaging partners if there are countries who respect and recognise the value of American technology and want to acquire it and they should there should be easier pathways than the current one. So, we certainly expect a more substantial level higher quality defence relationship as a result,” he added.

US President Donald Trump had earlier targeted India’s import duties in a speech to a joint session of Congress. Trump specifically targeted India’s tariffs on automobile imports, saying, “India charges us auto tariffs higher than 100%.”

While addressing a joint session of the US Congress, Trump said that the reciprocal tax will kick in on April 2. He had said that the US has been ripped off for decades by nearly every country on earth and vowed not to “let that happen any longer.”

Jaishankar said that India started importing LNG from the US some decades ago and noted that the business stayed at a certain level. He expressed India’s interest in increasing LNG imports from the US. He said that the two nations had a good discussion on the tech world and called success of BigTech essential to make America great again

S Jaishankar said, “A second area of interest for us was energy, for a country like India which is whose imports are overwhelming, how to make sure that there’s a stable, reasonable, predictable energy environment is something which is crucial for our long term growth and development. Now we saw a president who clearly had an interest in ensuring that energy availability was more, energy flows were more diverse, that countries like India could have more choice than we currently do. We, you know, had some decades ago, started, well about a decade ago, started importing LNG from the US, but for various reasons, the, the business stayed at a certain level. We have interest in increasing it because you know the US is a very, very stable supplier. So, we found from the energy perspective a very positive administration. I would also we had a good discussion on the tech world. I think there was a recognition that because, you know, big tech is today.”

“The success of BigTech is essential to make America great again. There is a connection between the two and I think Big tech recognises the importance of mobility and talent flows and the importance of partnerships because obviously everything in the tech world can’t happen in America. So, how do you create reliable supply chains? How do you have trusted vendors, trusted partners, transparent partners? I think these were issues on which again we saw a great deal of understanding and positivity. On trade, we had a very open discussion and the result of that discussion was that the Prime Minister and the President agreed that we would conclude you rightly said not a free trade agreement but a bilateral trade agreement by fall this year. And that is what is currently under discussion. We have a team here, by the way, they’re not it’s not that they are kicking off the discussion. My colleague, the trade minister, the commerce minister was in the US last month, and since then actually we’ve been working the trade account through virtual means. So, there’s a very active and intense trade discussion going on at this point of time,” he added.

On India’s decision not to join the Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership (RCEP), Jaishankar said, “So this brings me to the trade part of what you asked. Look, we did not sign RCEP for this reason. We through the RCEP discussions, we continuously sought protections and safeguards because we had apprehensions about a surge of imports essentially spurred by non-market and subsidy support. We didn’t get it, the RCEP partners did not take our concerns seriously. And at the end of the day, finally, forgive my saying it, presented us with a take it or leave it situation. And we left it, so and I think today if you ask people at that time when we did it, perhaps opinions were a bit more divided today, I think there’s a much stronger consensus that not joining RCEP for a country like India was a wise decision because see the nature of RCEP.|

“RCEP is a supply chain architecture system, where rules of origin have very limited meaning, I mean they can’t be verified in the way in which it used to be before. So, the way the flows would come at us, I mean already we are today struggling with some very serious adverse trade balances. There are deep concerns in this country about the hollowing out of our industrial capacity. We believe that we’re getting again a lot of unfair competition out of economies east of India. So, for the sake of diplomacy, I will not take names and I think all these were factors into our thinking,” he added. (ANI)

Mumbai Police Again Summons Comedian Kunal Kamra

Mumbai Police have issued a second summons to stand-up comedian Kunal Kamra, asking him to appear for clarification over his joke referring to Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde as a “gaddar” (traitor) in his latest stand-up video, “Naya Bharat”, on YouTube, officials said on Wednesday.

Kamra failed to appear on the first date, and his lawyer had requested seven days. However, after he did not appear, Mumbai Police issued another date after taking legal opinion.

Mumbai Police are investigating allegations that before making a mockery of former Chief Minister Eknath Shinde, Kamra had made satirical remarks about several other noted personalities.

According to the police, if the investigation reveals that Kamra has previously made satirical comments about any politician, actor, or sportsperson, action will be taken against him. Officials clarified that while Kamra’s lawyer has contacted them, the comedian himself has not been in touch with police officials.

Mumbai police said that if the investigation reveals that Kunal Kamra has committed any crime before this through his pranks, then more cases can be registered against him.

Kamra recently sparked a row with his “gaddar” (traitor) joke, allegedly aimed at Eknath Shinde. Several political leaders condemned his remarks during a stand-up show and demanded action against him.

On Tuesday, Kamra shared a new video mocking Shiv Sena workers for vandalizing The Habitat comedy club in Mumbai, where he had previously performed.

Reacting to the controversy, Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar said, “Our CM Devendra Fadnavis had responded to this issue on behalf of the government. Our CM has said that action will be taken as per the law.”

Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis took a strong stand against Kamra’s remarks. Speaking in the state Assembly on Monday, he said the government would not allow freedom of expression to become a tool for spreading “tyranny.”

The Chief Minister said, “We appreciate humor and satire. We accept political satire, but we do not accept freedom of expression if it leads to tyranny.”

He stated that Kamra staged “low-quality” comedy. “This artist makes statements against the Prime Minister, the Chief Justice; he wants to gain fame by creating controversy. He targeted Eknath Shinde and staged low-quality comedy,” the CM said, adding that the people will decide whether Eknath Shinde is a traitor or a selfish person. (ANI)

Akhilesh Alleges Yogi’s Consent In Attack On Ramji Lal

Samajwadi Party Chief Akhilesh Yadav on Wednesday strongly condemned the vandalism and stone pelting outside the residence of Samajwadi Party MP Ramji Lal Suman in Agra, UP. Yadav accused the BJP of perpetuating hatred and exploiting history for political gain.

He emphasised that the attack on Suman’s residence, which occurred while the Chief Minister was in the district, was not only condemnable but also seemed to have the Chief Minister’s tacit consent. Yadav highlighted Suman’s experience and stature as a Dalit MP, making the attack even more egregious.

Akhilesh Yadav said, “On March 23 I said neither we nor the BJP should turn the pages of history. Whenever the BJP has turned the pages of history, they have turned to gain political advantage and how to spread hatred. What happened is part of history. Today we should talk about moving forward. The incident with Ramji Lal Suman is sad and should be condemned. Ramji Lal Suman is a Dalit MP and has a lot of experience and his residence was attacked when the Chief Minister himself was in the district. This attack took place with the consent of the Chief Minister of UP.”

He further said that whose who talk about zero-tolerance, their zero-tolerance has become zero.

“Without the knowledge of Chief Minister how could this have happened when the CM is present in the district? A woman from went to Varanasi and returned back to her brother’s house was raped and murdered. The state government used to claim that no incident would occur against women. After that government had to carry out encounter to improve its image. After that another woman was killed. In Allahabad a girl was raped. An MLA from Ghaziabad said about the way in which the officials are carrying out loot. To hide all this CM will continue to spread hate and time has come for his departure,” he further said.

He alleged that their is widespread corruption in the state.

Earlier violence erupted outside the residence of SP MP Ramji Lal Suman in Agra on Wednesday as unidentified individuals resorted to stone pelting, breaking window panes and vandalising vehicles parked outside.

This comes after Suman sparked controversy with his statement on Rana Sanga, a 16th-century Rajput king, calling him a “traitor” for allegedly bringing Babur, the founder of the Mughal dynasty, to defeat Ibrahim Lodi.

Rana Sanga, also known as Sangram Singh I, was the ruler of Mewar from 1508 to 1528 and is revered for his bravery and sacrifices. Suman’s statement has been widely criticized, with many calling for an apology and action against him.

Meanwhile, BJP MP Jagadambika Pal has strongly condemned a statement made by SP MP Ramji Lal Suman, saying it hurt the sentiments of millions of people. Pal emphasised that public representatives should not make disparaging remarks about respected individuals, and criticised Suman’s party for not taking action against him.

“The sentiments of crores of people were hurt by his statement. No public representative has the right to make a statement about a person who is very respected and his party did not even issue a show cause notice against him and did not take any action against him. These people speak against Sanatan Dharma every day, say disrespectful things against great men,” said Pal.

SP MLA Ranjeet Suman alleged that the protestors belonged to Karni Sena. Notably, the Rajasthan unit of the Karni Sena has also announced a reward of Rs 5 lakh to anyone who will blacken Suman’s face and hit him with shoes.

SP MLA Ranjeet Suman, said, “Since 2 days, people were threatening through social media to come to the residence and attack us. Today, they came here, and a lot of people were attacked, and they suffered injuries. The people belong to Karni Sena. Police were present here and they were injured too.”

Samajwadi Party (SP) MP Dimple Yadav also alleged that the vandalism was orchestrated by the government.

Dimple Yadav said, “If we see the situation in Uttar Pradesh, where bombs are exploding on the roads, where women are not safe. It is the responsibility of the government. If such incidents are happening, then it is very unfortunate. What message do you want to give to the young generation? The government should take strict action against this. Somewhere this is an act done by the government.”On March 24 SP MP Ramji Lal Suman clarified that his intention was not to hurt anyone’s feelings.

Ramji Lal Suman said, “I had said in the Parliament that Babar was invited to India by Rana Sanga to defeat Ibrahim Lodi. My intention was not to hurt anyone’s religious sentiments. I may or may not believe in any religion, but there is no right to play with the sentiments of the followers of any other religion. My statement was neither against any caste, nor against any class, nor against any religion. I salute all those who have sacrificed their lives for the soil of this country. My intention was not to hurt anyone’s feelings.”

Suman further said, “Babur came to India on the invitation of Rana Sanga. This is a historical fact. I did not intend to hurt anyone’s feelings. Every time, it is said that India’s Muslims have Babur in their DNA. The Muslims of India consider Muhammad Saheb (Prophet Muhammad) as their ideal and follow the Sufi tradition. I do not intend to hurt anyone’s feelings.”

He further said that Muslims are under fear in Uttar Pradesh.

Lal Suman said, “Our Ganga-Jamuni culture is being destroyed. Yogi Adityanath should learn that every religion spreads the message of love, not confrontation. Here, who is the one digging old graves? During stampede in Mahakumbh Muslims came forward and helped the victims.” (ANI)
