Protests Held Outside Srinagar PCR

In the aftermath of the terror attack in Pahalgam, citizens gathered outside the Police Control Room in Srinagar, holding protests against the violence.

Speaking to ANI on Wednesday, one protester said, “This is mourning. All of Kashmir is mourning the death of humanity. We love tourists. They are our life. If a bullet hits them, it strikes our hearts. This attack has shattered our souls. This is not just murder–it is the murder of humanity, and we will not forgive it.”

Protesters called on the government and security forces to take strong and immediate action. “We respect the police, we are with them. But the government must act. This is a time to fight this war together,” said another protester.

“Hindu, Muslim, Sikh, or Christian–this is about human life. Don’t point fingers at each other. We have to fight this war together. This is not a one-man fight. All these Kashmiris have to fight this war. Insha Allah, we will succeed in this war, but as long as we are alive, we will have to keep humanity alive,” the protester said.

Protesters said that this attack is a blow to Kashmiriyat, the spirit of harmony and hospitality in the Valley.

“Even the One above–Allah, Bhagwan–has made us all as human beings. If we forget the value of human life, we lose everything,” said one elderly protester. “In my sixty years, I have never seen such a black day. We haven’t eaten since yesterday. Our hearts are too heavy,” a protester told ANI.

Sunil Sharma, Leader of Opposition in the J&K Legislative Assembly and a BJP leader, called the incident “a direct attack on humanity.”

Speaking to ANI, he said, “It is an attack on humanity. Innocent people were targeted. Small children and women were targeted. People were here to enjoy, instead, they are being sent back in coffins.”

Sharma vowed that those responsible would be held accountable. “Every single person involved in this will face justice. No act of terror will go unanswered.”

Meanwhile, Awami Ittehad Party leader Khurshid Ahmad Sheikh also strongly condemned the attack. He said this is an attempt to destabilise the region’s fragile peace and economy.

Sheikh says, “We condemn this attack. It is also an attack on our Kashmiriyat, our hospitality; Some people want to harm our economy and the brotherhood here.”

“Some forces want to destroy the brotherhood here, to derail our development. We want peace, and we have supported the bandh called by several organisations in protest.”

“There have been similar incidents before, but it doesn’t mean people can’t come here. You can’t assess the overall security situation from the perspective of a single incident. We have a greater responsibility to ensure the safety of tourists and non-locals. We are trying to ensure that tourism is not affected,” he added.

Earlier, Jammu and Kashmir Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) chief Mehbooba Mufti joined the protest in Srinagar, holding a placard that read, “This is an attack on all of us” in the aftermath of the Pahalgam terror attack on tourists.

Speaking to reporters, Mufti says, “This was an attack not just by the terrorists on the people but also on our Kashmiriyat and us. I request that the Union Home Minister investigate the perpetrators so that they can be brought to justice. We are ashamed that this incident happened in Kashmir, and we stand with those affected.”

The Dogra Front, various members of various Hindu organisations, along with BJP leaders, were also protesting against the Pahalgam terrorist attack on tourists.

Meanwhile, in the aftermath of the tragic terror attack in Pahalgam, the National Investigation Agency (NIA) team visited the Pahalgam terror attack site to support the Jammu and Kashmir (J-K) Police in probing the attack. It was one of the biggest terror attacks in the region after the abrogation of Article 370 in 2019. (ANI)

The World In Transition

It is now accepted that the world is in transition. Several dynamics are in a flux. There is European Occidentalism still trying to hang on to universalism and globalisation on the one hand. There is China resisting universalism but happy with economic globalisation as it has benefitted it immensely. There is Russia challenging the western based ‘rule based’ order, meaning boundaries and territories remain as they were ordained after World War II and decolonisation and international treaties guide the world. And then there is Trump, suddenly woken up and realised that the rule based order, economic globalisation and wars to keep others in check was being financed largely by the USA that now has a debt of $36 Trillion.

The United States cannot continue to bear the burden of policing the world, helping it ‘develop’ and propping western hegemony. Some of the countries that have been helped with economic development are China, now the 2nd largest economy, and India, now the 5th largest economy. It makes no sense that the American tax payer should be paying in debt for these economies to thrive. China’s debt in comparison is $10 Trillion while India is only $770 Billion

The United States has been waging wars to ensure western hegemony. The US was perpetually being pumped up by its European allies to be the ‘world leader’, to be the ‘leader of the Free world’ whatever that is, to be the champion of democracy and human rights etc. Britain was a key mistress in this, flattering and whispering in the ears of the USA that without it the world will become full of barbarians. Only the USA can keep order, they said to it.

American think tanks are full of British and European ‘experts’ with some commonwealth sourced ‘academics’ schooled in leading western universities, writing almost identical ‘researched’ articles about impending doomsday if the United States did not play the role of world leader. They controlled the ‘international relations’ discourse, political science ideas and even thinking in economic and legal fields.

The institution further legitimising all this has been the United Nations. It is largely funded by the USA. Its institutional ideology has been constructed by Britain, France and USA mostly. And its senior staff are also ‘schooled’ in almost same universities.

This convenient state of world order has been called Pax Americana and ‘rule based’ order. Whenever there was a substantive challenge, order was restored by violence by finding an excuse for war.

Again it was the United States and its colossal spending power that led these punishments to erring countries and lately groups with wars, sanctions and coups. Then 9/11 happened

ALSO READ: Trump And The New World Order

During colonialism, it was European countries that bore the brunt of these financial costs and manpower loss. After the Second World War, an impoverished Europe, flattered the United States to take the crown, while Europeans benefitted on the back of Pax Americana.

China has stealthily crept from a poverty stricken country pushed into that State by colonialism and its own internal conflicts. It has now become the second largest economy. It is a leader in manufacturing and even in technology. China has nurtured economic, diplomatic and political relationships with most  regions of the world. And without embarking on wars, (except small ones such as the Indo- China war of 1962), China has almost caught up with the United States. It cannot be pushed over now.

It appears that Trump is now leading q section of Americans who have reflected on all this and understand that while Europe piggy backed on its apparent success, the country has borne the costs and the manpower loss in propping the ‘rule based order’. They know that its potential has reached its limits as they see China and India have benefitted from it.

With BRICS looking at developing an alternative currency system, the future of the dollar cannot be guaranteed as the main reserve currency of the world. If it starts to slide, then the debt will start to bite. The USA will find it difficult to raise immense amounts of money. Currently each American citizen carries a debt of $106000 to finance this ‘rule based order’

It is not surprising that the Trump group has turned on its own allies around the world and more or less announced that the USA is no longer interested in Pax Americana. The message seems to be that if Europe and Canada want to carry on with their vision of hegemony and ‘rule based order’, then they can finance it and they can send their armies to fight for it. Canada seems eager to get into the vacuum and lead the ‘western rule based order’.

The world is now in transition. Russia has no interest in sticking to the current boundaries. It says it has security concerns. China is slowly inching towards dominating international institutions. The Middle East is slowly moving away from Pax Americana. Turkey has ambitions of becoming the modern version of the Ottoman Empire and possibly restore the Caliph.

Trump’s so called trade wars make sense. He is asking Americans to tighten the belt. He does not want to subsidise the global economy with ever mounting debt or fund wars for western hegemony. He seems to want the USA to be like any other country and charge tariffs as needed to protect the American economy. He also wants to stop spending ludicrous amounts on protracted wars. His team don’t seem to be interested in the formula, subsidise global trade, finance ideological institutions and fund wars.

Transitions do not always go smoothly. There is a great deal of uncertainty. Trump’s USA is trying hard to prize Russia away from China. It was a mistake in the first place to push it away. However, it remains to be seen whether Russia will take the bait. It may decide to stick with a partner that supported it in its most difficult time.

The unknown factor is China. No doubt China will have game planned all this for a few years. China’s relations with other countries is transactional and of course politically expedient. It does not offer an ideological camaraderie that the west offers such as democracy, human rights, sovereignty etc.

China has not engaged in political intrigues that some western countries are masterful at. Will it be able to stand up to the challenge the USA has thrown in the hat? The USA has decided to play on China’s own turf, that is trade and economic muscle.  Unless these two very different civilisations negotiate co-existence, there could be a lot of collateral damage. The one prediction that can be made with some confidence is that Occidental Universalism is now dying and western dictated ‘rule based order’ belongs to yesterday.

Civilians Targeted, Not IB Officials: Sources

Some pro-Kashmir resistance handles on social media have claimed that the citizens who were injured in the Pahalgam terrorist attacks were not “ordinary”, but connected with internal security and counter-intelligence agencies like the Intelligence Bureau (IB). However, sources have refuted the claims made by such handles and called them “erroneous.”

Flyers attributed to ‘Kashmir Resistance’ were posted on social media, making claims that those killed in the attack included intelligence officials and officials from RAW and other agencies.

Sources confirmed to ANI, that only one IB official, who was on leave with family, was murdered and asserted that only civilians were targeted.

“The unverified rumour spread by some X handles and TV channels that several IB officers were injured is erroneous. Pakistan-sponsored terror group is trying to justify the killings as targeting non-civilians. Only one IB official on leave was murdered in front of his family, not several. Civilians were the target,” sources said.

The coffins carrying the victims of the terror attack were brought to the Srinagar airport. Several state government representatives have arrived in Srinagar to facilitate the return home of victims and tourists from their respective states.

In the aftermath of the tragic terror attack in Pahalgam that claimed the lives of innocent tourists on Tuesday, Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Wednesday met the families of the victims outside the Police Control Room in Srinagar. Earlier, the Union Home Minister paid his tribute to the victims of the attack, which had left the Kashmir Valley and the nation in collective grief and deep mourning, by laying a wreath in a poignant ceremony in Srinagar.

This has been one of the biggest terror attacks after the abrogation of Article 370 in 2019. The government, however, has yet to officially confirm the number of casualties in the terror attack in Pahalgam.

The Ministry of Civil Aviation has arranged four new flights, two each to Delhi and Mumbai. Based on demand, they are in touch with airlines to increase their efforts.

Following the terror attack, security forces have launched search operations to track down the terrorists responsible. Security has been heightened since the attack, with visuals from the area showing the streets deserted in the usually bustling tourist area. Many organisations have also called for a Jammu bandh following the attack. (ANI)

The Jammu and Kashmir government has announced an ex-gratia of Rs 10 lakh each for the families of the deceased and Rs 2 lakh for those seriously injured. Union Home Minister Amit Shah reviewed the security situation at the site, taking an aerial stock of the region.

Earlier today, Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Wednesday reviewed the security situation at the site of the terror attack in Pahalgam’s Baisaran meadow.

The Union Minister first took an aerial stock of the region as he arrived at the site by helicopter, descending onto the meadow now bearing the scars of violence, earlier in the day.

The National Investigation Agency (NIA) team visited the Pahalgam terror attack site on Wednesday to support the Jammu and Kashmir (J-K) Police in probing what is considered the deadliest assault on civilians in the region in almost twenty years. (ANI)

KL Rahul Topples David Warner’s Record, Fastest Batter To Score 5000 IPL Runs

KL Rahul established his proficiency as a prolific batter and surpassed stalwarts David Warner, Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli to become the fastest to reach 5000 runs in the Indian Premier League (IPL).

Rahul accomplished the feat during Delhi Capitals’ eight-wicket triumph against his former franchise, Lucknow Super Giants, on Tuesday at the Ekana Cricket Stadium. Rahul played the anchor’s role and ensured the Capitals cruised to victory with consummate ease.

He notched up 57* to break the backbone of Lucknow’s defence of a modest 160-run target and became the fastest to 5000 IPL runs. He achieved the feat in 130 innings, bettering former Australian opener David Warner’s 135. Royal Challengers Bengaluru’s batting maestro Virat Kohli slipped to the third spot in the list, having achieved the feat in 157 innings.

Overall, he became the eighth player to enter the 5000-run club in the tournament after Virat (8,326), Rohit (6,786), Shikhar Dhawan (6,769), Warner (6,565), Suresh Raina (5,528), MS Dhoni (5,377) and AB de Villiers (5,162). In IPL, Rahul boasts a staggering 5,006 runs in 139 matches at a stellar average of 46.35, laced with 40 fifties and four centuries.

Rahul instilled a sense of calmness when he arrived at the crease when DC were reeling at 36/1 in 3.4 overs. He welcomed Avesh Khan with a sublime shot to find the boundary ripe. He infused a sense of aggression with Abhishek Porel and raised a 69-run partnership for the second wicket.

He flexed his boundary-hitting nerve in the 11th over and slog-swept the ball past the boundary rope for an 86-metre maximum over mid-wicket. On the first ball of the next over, he danced around the crease, got close to the pitch of the delivery and clobbered it over the bowler’s head for a six.

On the first ball of the 18th over, he pushed the ball away and sprinted for a single to bring up his 40th half-century in the cash-rich league. He finished the game in style by pulling the ball away over mid-wicket for a maximum and sealing an 8-wicket victory for the Capitals. (ANI)

‘He Went For A Holiday’: Terror Attack Claims Lives of Loved Ones, Families Shattered

‘He Went For A Holiday’: Terror Attack Claims Lives of Loved Ones, Families Shattered

The terror attack in Jammu and Kashmir’s Pahalgam on Tuesday has left families mourning across several parts of the country, including Nagpur in Maharashtra.

Speaking to ANI, a family member said, “My younger brother went there for the holidays. We got this news from the television. We tried to contact him, but we were unable to do so…We are continuously trying to contact them….”

Another relative of one of the tourists expressed similar fear and uncertainty.

“We got the information from the television, and we got worried after that. The last time we contacted each other was on April 17. We are very worried, but got relief after seeing that they are alive. We are continuously trying to connect with them…,” the family member shared.

Shubham Dwivedi, a resident of Kanpur, Uttar Pradesh, lost his life in the Pahalgam Terrorist Attack.

His cousin Saurabh Dwivedi in Kanpur said, “…Shubham Bhaiya got married on February 12 this year. He was in Pahalgam with his wife. My sister-in-law called my uncle and told him that Shubham was shot in the head. It is also being said that the firing started after asking for the names of the individuals… We have received information that the body will be released after 2-3 days after completing all the procedures…”

An Indian Navy Officer, Lieutenant Vinay Narwal, who was posted in Kochi, was also been killed in the Terrorist Attack. He was in Pahalgam with his spouse while on leave. He is a native of Haryana and got married on April 16,

Vinay Narwal’s neighbour said, “He was married just a few days back; four days ago it was his reception and there was a celebration all over here. Today, we come to know that terrorists have killed him.”

With the situation tense in the area, some tourists have decided to cut short their trips too. One of the tourists, Sameer Bhardwaj from Delhi, had plans to visit places in Pahalgam, but he said he will be returning to the National Capital now.

“We have been in Kashmir for the last three days. We had plans for Pahalgam, but since the situation is not good here, we are leaving for Delhi… What happened here is very wrong. Such a thing has happened in Pahalgam for the first time,” the tourist told ANI.

Following the terror attack, security forces have launched search operations on Wednesday to track down the terrorists responsible.

Pahalgam Terror Attack: Victims’ Coffins Reach Srinagar, Nation Mourns

As the country mourns the tragic death of innocent tourists, the coffins carrying the victims of the terror attack were brought to the Srinagar airport. Several state government representatives have arrived in Srinagar to facilitate the return home of victims and tourists from their respective states.

This has been one of the biggest terror attacks after the abrogation of Article 370 in 2019. The government, however, has yet to officially confirm the number of casualties in the terror attack in Pahalgam.

Karnataka Minister Santosh Lad arrived in Srinagar to coordinate on behalf of the Siddaramaiah government. Ministers and officials from other states were also present on the field.

As tourist movement also increases outside the Srinagar airport, Air India has added two more flights to Delhi and Mumbai, scheduled to operate today, to ensure the safe return of tourists from the valley.

Union Civil Aviation Minister Ram Mohan Naidu spoke to Union Home Minister Amit Shah about arranging more flights from Srinagar to Delhi and Mumbai today. The Minister is also monitoring fares to prevent spikes in this situation, and is continually assessing the situation around the clock to meet additional requirements. Ministry of Civil Aviation has arranged four new flights, two each to delhi and Mumbai. Based on demand, they are in touch with airlines to increase their efforts.

The police administration has erected concertina wires in order to enhance security amid the heightened tensions over the deadly attacks against tourists. Choppers have been deployed in the airspace to conduct surveys and aid in the search operations in Pahalgam.

The terrorist attack in Pahalgam has sent shock waves across the country, especially within the local community, which has called for a shutdown.

Gulzar Ahmad Wani, president of Pahalgam Taxi Association, says, “I condemn this attack. It is not just tourists, but our livelihood, our families. We don’t consider them tourists. It is as if our family members have been killed. I request that the government investigate this matter thoroughly. Pahalgam has always been peaceful, and it runs on tourism.”

The business community in the Poonch district has put locks in markets while protesting and extending solidarity to the victims. They were seen shouting slogans, “Pakistan Haye Haye! Dehshatgardi band karo!”

Meanwhile, in Karnataka’s Shivamogga, preparations are underway for the funeral process at the residence of Manjunath, one of the tourists who was killed in the Pahalgam terrorist attack. The family is expecting the mortal remains to arrive at their residence today.

His maternal uncle, Madhav Murthy, said, “Manjunath is a relative. His son scored 98 per cent marks in the second PU exams, which is why he took his family to Jammu and Kashmir. Shivamogga MP, MLA, and many others, including RSS leaders, are trying to bring his mortal remains. They went on a package tour around eight days ago. When they were eating panipuri, terrorists attacked them. They told his wife and son to ‘go and tell this to Modiji’. It’s not good to lose anybody in any such attacks.”

Following the terror attack, security forces have launched search operations on Wednesday to track down the terrorists responsible. Security has been heightened since the attack, with visuals from the area showing the streets deserted in the usually bustling tourist area. Many organisations have also called for a Jammu bandh following the attack.

With the situation tense in the area, some tourists have decided to cut their trips short as well.
