After the 22 Naxals surrendered in Chhattisgarh’s Sukma, Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Friday appealed to the Naxalites to lay down their arms and said that the Modi government is determined to end Naxalism by March 2026.

“Cobra Commandos and Chhattisgarh Police have arrested 22 Naxalites with modern weapons and explosive materials in various operations in Bijapur district of Chhattisgarh. Also, 11 Naxalites have surrendered in Badesetti Panchayat of Sukma, due to which this Panchayat has become completely Naxal-free,” Amit Shah posted on X.

“A total of 22 Naxalites, including 11 Naxalites carrying a bounty of Rs 40 lakhs, have surrendered before the security forces in Sukma district. Every possible effort will be made as per the rules for the rehabilitation of the surrendered Naxalites. As per the resolution of Union Home Minister Amit Shah Ji, complete eradication of red terror from the country and state is certain by March 2026,” CM Sai posted on X in Hindi.

Chhattisgarh Bharatiya Janata Party Chief Kiran Singh Deo said that Bastar district in the state is moving towards peace.

“Bastar district is slowly moving towards peace… Many government welfare schemes and development initiatives are now able to reach areas of the district that were previously inaccessible… Everyone should be in the mainstream,” Kiran Singh Deo said.

Earlier today, 22 Naxals, including nine women, surrendered in Chhattisgarh’s Sukma in the presence of Superintendent of Police (SP) Kiran Gangaram Chavan.

Following the surrender, speaking to the media, Sukma SP Kiran Gangaram Chavan said that the surrendered Naxalites would receive all benefits under the government’s surrender policy.

“The surrendered Naxalites hail from Maad (Chhattisgarh) and Nuapada (Odisha) divisions. The Naxalites will be given all the benefits provided by the government. “There are Naxalites of different ranks who have surrendered. Some Naxalites have a bounty of Rs 5 lakhs, while others have a bounty of Rs 8 lakhs,” Sukma SP said.

Earlier, twenty-six Maoists, three of them carrying cash rewards, surrendered before senior police and Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) officials in Dantewada.

The surrender took place at the District Reserve Guard (DRG) headquarters as part of the ongoing ‘Lon Varratu’ (Come Home) campaign, which aims to reintegrate former extremists into mainstream society.

The surrender was facilitated by the joint efforts of the district police, CRPF, and the state’s special rehabilitation policy. As part of the state government’s new rehabilitation policy, each surrendered Maoist will receive Rs 50,000 in immediate assistance and access to a range of benefits, including skill development training and agricultural land. India, Pakistan Should Talk And Move Forward: RAW ex-Chief Dulat

Former RAW chief AS Dulat has pitched for talks between India and Pakistan, saying there should be discussions as it will lead to the way forward.

“It is my opinion that India and Pakistan should talk. When there are talks and discussions, things will come out and will be solved…There should be no problem in holding talks,” Dulat told ANI on the sidelines of an event where his book ‘The Chief Minister and The Spy’ was released.

Dulat, who has also served in the Intelligence Bureau and has long experience of working in and on Kashmir, said it is “very necessary” to talk to Pakistan.

Asked about Pakistan’s support to cross-border terrorism, Dulat said “that’s why there should be talks”.

“If there are talks, something will come out. Things come out when there are talks, there can be something good. This relationship with Pakistan won’t end through guns and war. So, what’s the harm in talking? I’m not saying we should give or take something, but talk. What’s the harm in talking?” he asked.

“Talks lead to way forward, it always happens,” he added.

Terrorism emanating from territories under Pakistan’s control remains a core concern in bilateral relations. India has consistently stressed the need for Pakistan to take credible, irreversible and verifiable action to end cross border terrorism against India and fulfill its assurances, given to India at the highest level in January 2004 and reiterated several times, that territory under its control would not be allowed to be used for terrorism against India in any manner.

India has followed a consistent and principled policy towards Pakistan i.e.: in keeping with its “Neighbourhood First Policy”, India seeks normal neighbourly relations with Pakistan in an environment free from terror, hostility and violence.

India is committed to address issues, if any, bilaterally and peacefully in keeping with the Simla Agreement and the Lahore Declaration. India has also said it will not compromise on issues related to its national security and take firm and decisive measures to deal with all attempts to undermine its security and territorial integrity.

Earlier, speaking at the launch of his new book, Dulat had said there is need to move on with Pakistan.

“The sands are running out, time is on nobody’s side. We need to move on and we need to move on with Pakistan…I will continue to say that we must move forward with Pakistan,” he had said.

Dulat, who on Wednesday answered queries on the political storm in Kashmir about some remarks in his book relating to former Chief Minister Farooq Abdullah, Dulat had said his book is full of praise for the National Conference leader.

“My book is full of praise for Dr Farooq (Abdullah). There is nothing against him in the book. Please read it,” Dulat had told ANI.

Dulat was also asked about the claims in his book concerning abrogation of Article 370 and his reported mention that just as the BJP had never hidden its intentions towards Kashmir concerning Article 370, “so, too, had Farooq been extremely open about his willingness to work with Delhi”.

“My only comment is that the book is an appreciation, not critique of Farooq (Abdullah),” he had said.

Opposition parties in Jammu and Kashmir had slammed Farooq Abdullah over reports concerning Dulat’s book. (ANI)

US: China-Linked Satellite Firm Aided Houthi Attacks In Red Sea

A Chinese satellite company associated with the nation’s military is providing imagery to Iran-backed Houthi rebels in Yemen to target US warships and foreign boats in the Red Sea, according to American officials, as reported by the Financial Times.

The Trump administration has informed Beijing on multiple occasions that the Houthis are receiving intelligence from Chang Guang Satellite Technology Co Ltd, a commercial organisation with connections to the PLO, according to American officials.

“The United States has raised our concerns privately numerous times to the Chinese government on Chang Guang Satellite Technology Co Ltd’s role in supporting the Houthis to get Beijing to take action,” said a senior state department official. The official added that China had “ignored” the concerns. He also told the Financial Times that CGSTL’s actions and “Beijing’s tacit support” despite Washington’s warnings were “yet another example of China’s empty claims to support peace,” as quoted by the Financial Times.

Tammy Bruce, the state department’s spokesperson, confirmed that CGSTL was “directly supporting Iran-backed Houthi terrorist attacks on US interests”. She added, “The US will not tolerate anyone providing support to foreign terrorist organisations such as the Houthis.”

Concern over CGSTL coincides with a growing trade battle between Washington and Beijing, with President Donald Trump’s imposition of massive additional tariffs on Chinese goods, which now include a 145% tax. The Financial Times reported that after Israel declared war on Hamas, another group backed by Iran, in 2023 in retaliation for the October 7 attack by the Palestinian militant group, the Houthis began attacking ships in the Red Sea, a vital maritime route for international trade and the US Navy.

As the Pentagon focuses more on Chinese military activity in space, the US is becoming concerned about CGSTL. According to the Pentagon, China will launch 200 satellites in 2023, ranking second only to the United States. According to the Financial Times, Beijing was also exporting its satellite technology, including locally produced remote-sensing satellites, the same type of technology that CGSTL is using. (ANI)

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy Russia

Zelenskyy Slams Russia’s Strikes On Good Friday

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy condemned Russian attacks that struck multiple cities across Ukraine on Good Friday, including missile and drone strikes on Kharkiv and Sumy.

Zelenskyy further said that the attacks left around 70 people injured, including children.

Sharing a post on X, Zelenskyy wrote, “This is how Russia began this Good Friday – with ballistic missiles, cruise missiles, Shaheds – maiming our people and cities. A missile strike on Kharkiv, right on the city. Dozens of residential buildings were damaged, as well as an enterprise and vehicles. Around 70 people were injured, including five children. The youngest, Valeriia, is just two years old. All the wounded received the necessary medical assistance. Tragically, one person was killed.”

The post added, “Sumy. Russian attack drones. One of the targets was a regular bakery, an ordinary business that has served the city for decades. Tragically, one person was killed in this attack. My condolences to all who have lost loved ones. There were also Russian strikes on Dnipro, Kyiv, Mykolaiv, and Donetsk regions. Our rescuers, medics, and other emergency and specialized services are all responding and helping. I thank every single person who is saving lives and restoring living conditions in Ukraine’s cities and villages.”

Calling for continued international support, Zelenskyy emphasised the need for air defence systems and aid to protect Ukrainian lives and infrastructure.

“I am grateful to all our partners who are helping defend Ukraine. Every defense package matters – all air defense systems, sufficient supply of missiles for those systems – all this truly makes a difference,” Zelenskyy wrote on X.

Earlier on April 13, Russia had attacked Ukraine’s Sumy city during Palm Sunday, leaving at least 31 people dead, including two children, and over 84 wounded, with 10 of the injured being children, marking it as the most severe attack on Ukrainian civilians since 2023. (ANI)

Tamil Nadu Is Always Out Of Delhi’s Control: Stalin

Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin on Friday took a jibe at the central government and stated that the state would never yield to the national capital New Delhi’s administration, further saying that Tamil Nadu was always out of control of Delhi.

“Union Minister Amit Shah says that in 2026, they will form a government. I am challenging and saying to him, Tamil Nadu will never yield to Delhi’s administration… that much uniqueness we have. What you do in other states by breaking parties and with raids forming the government won’t work in Tamil Nadu. This formula won’t work here… Tamil Nadu is always out of control of Delhi….” Stalin said.

Stalin questioned Home Minister Amit Shah on the NEET examination and the imposition of Hindi in the state.

“I want to ask Union Home Minister Amit Shah, can he give assurance to provide an exemption from NEET? Can he give assurance that you won’t impose Hindi? Can he list out the release of special funds to Tamil Nadu? Can you give your word that delimitation won’t reduce seats (of Tamil Nadu in parliamentary elections)? If we are diverting, why didn’t you give a proper response to the Tamil Nadu people?” said Stalin.

Over the remarks used by Union Minister Dharmendra Pradhan, where he termed the Tamil Nadu government as ‘dishonest’ and the people of the state as ‘uncivilised’, Stalin stated politics could not divide Tamil Nadu.

“Union Minister Dharmendhra Pradhan passed defaming remarks against the Tamil People. Another Union Minister also did the same. Even the PM in Odisha spoke badly about Tamilians and asked whether Tamilians can rule Odisha… You tried dividing through politics. But this can’t be done in Tamil Nadu,” the CM said.

Earlier, on April 15, MK Stalin stepped up his attack on the Centre, making a strong pitch to give the State more autonomy in the decisions it takes. This came in the wake of the run-ins that the DMK-led government has had with Governor RN Ravi over the clearance of various bills passed by the State assembly.

The Chief Minister moved a resolution in the Tamil Nadu Assembly to appoint a high-level committee that will recommend new State autonomy and retrieve the rights of the State. The committee will be headed by Retired Justice Kurian Joseph and include retired IAS Ashok Vardan Shetty and Mu Nagarajan.

The committee will research and submit an interim report to the State by the end of January 2026, and a full report will be submitted within two years. The committee will also give recommendations on strengthening the relationship between the State and the Union Government. (ANI)

K’taka Govt Stands Firm To Enact Rohith Vemula Act: Siddaramaiah

After Lok Sabha Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi’s requested to enact the Rohith Vemula Act in Karnataka, Chief Minister Siddaramaiah said that the state government stands firm in its resolve to enact the Act in the state and will bring the legislation at the earliest.

“I thank Rahul Gandhi for his heartfelt letter and unwavering commitment to social justice. Our Government stands firm in its resolve to enact the Rohith Vemula Act in Karnataka — to ensure no student faces discrimination based on caste, class, or religion. We will bring this legislation at the earliest to honour the dreams of Rohith, Payal, Darshan, and countless others who deserved dignity, not exclusion,” the Karnataka CM posted on X.

“This will be a step towards realising Dr BR Ambedkar’s vision of an equal, compassionate India,” he added.

Earlier today, Rahul Gandhi wrote to Siddaramaiah, urging the state government to enact the Rohith Vemula Act to ensure that no one faces caste-based discrimination in the education system.

“Recently, I met students and teachers from Dalit, Adivasi and OBC communities in Parliament. During the conversation, they told me how they face caste-based discrimination in colleges and universities. Babasaheb Ambedkar demonstrated that education is the primary means by which even the most deprived can become empowered and break the caste system. But it is very unfortunate that even after decades, lakhs of students are facing caste discrimination in our education system. This discrimination has taken the lives of promising students like Rohith Vemula, Payal Tadvi and Darshan Solanki,” Rahul Gandhi wrote in a post on X on Friday.

“Such horrific incidents cannot be tolerated at any cost. Now is the time to put a complete stop to this injustice. I have written a letter to Siddaramaiah ji requesting him to implement the Rohith Vemula Act in Karnataka. No child of India should have to face the casteism that Babasaheb Ambedkar, Rohith Vemula and crores of people have faced,” he added.

In a letter dated April 16, Rahul Gandhi said, “Here he describes an incident during a long bullock cart journey. There was plenty of food with us. There was hunger burning within us; with all this, we were to sleep without food; that was because we could get no water, and we could get no water because we were untouchables.”

The LoP further said that it is a shame that even today, millions of students from Dalit, Adivasi and OBC communities have to face such brutal discrimination in our educational system.

“The murder of bright young people like Rohith Vemula, Payal Tadvi and Darshan Solanki is simply not acceptable. It is time to put an end to this firmly. I urge the Karnataka government to enact the Rohith Vemula Act so that no child of India has to face what Dr BR Ambedkar, Rohit Vemula and millions of others have had to endure,” Lok Sabha LoP added.

Rohith Vemula died by suicide in January 2016, allegedly upset over disciplinary actions taken against him by Hyderabad Central University, where he was pursuing a PhD.

Vemula, a PhD scholar at the Hyderabad Central University, was found hanging from a ceiling fan in a hostel room on January 17, 2016. He was allegedly upset over disciplinary actions taken against him by the university. (ANI)

Earlier, Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai credited his government’s efforts to work on rehabilitation policies, which resulted in the surrender of about 1,314 Naxalites. He said that Naxalism was “breathing its last” in the state.

Speaking at the ‘Vichaar for Viksit Chhattisgarh’ conclave to ANI, Chief Minister Sai said that the state government has provided nearly 15,000 accommodations under the PM Awas Yojana for those who have surrendered to join the mainstream. He said that the government was also working on providing “skill development” training to the surrendered Naxalites so that they could become employable.

Chief Minister Sai said his government has employed surrendered Naxalites in third and fourth-class government jobs.

“About 1,314 Naxalites have surrendered, and the government is doing justice to them. We have separately arranged 15,000 Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana for them. We keep them in the district headquarters, and we are also working on their skill development so that they can get some employment. We also give them jobs in third and fourth classes of government organisations as per their qualification,” CM Sai said. (ANI)
