NIA Arrests Key Associate Of Khalistan Liberation Force Involved In Amritsar Attack

The National Investigation Agency (NIA) has arrested a key associate of two Khalistan Liberation Force (KLF) linked terror operatives who had carried out a grenade attack on a temple in Punjab’s Amritsar in March this year, the agency said on Thursday.

Absconder Bhagwant Singh alias Manna Bhatti was nabbed on Wednesday from Akalgarh village in Amritsar, taking the total arrests in the case to four.

The attack was carried out by Gursidak Singh and Vishal alias Chuchi, who had hurled a hand grenade at Thakur Dwara Sanatan Mandir in Amritsar, the NIA investigation reveals. The proscribed terror organisation KLF has claimed responsibility for the attack.

While Gursidak Singh was killed in a shootout with police following the temple attack, Vishal was arrested. Two other men, identified as Diwan Singh alias Sunny and Sahib Singh alias Saba, were also arrested in the case.

As per NIA investigation, Bhagwant, who was absconding since the incident, had knowingly provided shelter to Gursidak and Vishal. “The duo had stayed with Bhagwant during the planning of the terror attack and also thereafter. The grenade used in the attack was also concealed behind Bhagwan’s house with his knowledge.”

NIA’s investigations in the case further reveal that Bhagwant Singh had even received terror funds in his bank account.

NIA is continuing its investigation in the case as part of its crackdown against KLF associates in India and the terror outfit’s foreign-based nodes. (ANI)

Jaishankar In Netherlands: Pak Must Face Consequences If Terror Continues

External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar, during his official visit to the Netherlands, said Pakistan must face consequences if cross-border terror attacks continue.

In an interview with Dutch daily de Volkskrant, EAM Jaishankar referred to the April 22 attack in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir, and stated that the Pakistani military leadership holds extreme religious views.

“We want a definitive end to terrorism. Our message is therefore: yes, the ceasefire has put an end to military actions against each other for now, but if the terrorist attacks from Pakistan continue, there will be consequences. The Pakistanis must understand that very well.”

EAM Jaishankar was in the Netherlands in place of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who cancelled his planned state visit due to the recent military exchange between India and Pakistan. The visit focused on economic cooperation and counterterrorism, as well as preparatory discussions for PM Modi’s rescheduled visit later this year.

Bilateral issues discussed included Dutch arms supplies to Pakistan, which were previously raised by Indian Defence Minister Rajnath Singh in Delhi with Dutch Defence Minister Ruben Brekelmans in March.

When asked whether he was implying that Pakistan supports terrorism, EAM Jaishankar responded: “I am not suggesting that, I am stating that. Suppose that there were large military centres in the middle of a city like Amsterdam where tens of thousands of people gathered for military training, would you say that your government knows nothing about that? Of course not.”

“We should not go along with the narrative that Pakistan does not know what is going on. The most notorious terrorists on the United Nations (UN) sanctions list are all in Pakistan. They operate in the big cities, in broad daylight. Their addresses are known. Their activities are known. Their mutual contacts are known. So let’s not pretend that Pakistan is not involved. The state is involved. The army is up to its neck in it.”

On whether terrorism in Jammu and Kashmir is linked to the broader Kashmir dispute, EAM Jaishankar said: “No, for us terrorism is an independent, completely unacceptable international crime that should not be condoned or justified.”

He added: “The terrorists targeted the vibrant tourism industry in Jammu and Kashmir with their attack. So they are prepared to destroy things in Kashmir for their own, very limited, selfish purposes. They also deliberately gave the attack a very religious tint (Hindu versus Muslim, ed.). The world should not accept such practices.”

On Kashmir’s political status, EAM Jaishankar said: “As for Jammu and Kashmir, it is a historical fact that it joined India when India and Pakistan separated in 1947. Our position is that the illegal occupiers should return their illegally occupied parts to the rightful owner. And that is us.”

Asked whether the international community could mediate in the Kashmir dispute, EAM Jaishankar said: “No, it is a bilateral issue between the countries involved.”

When asked about mediation offers such as that from US President Donald Trump, he replied: “As I said, this is something we will do together with Pakistan.”

EAM Jaishankar also held discussions on enhancing economic and technological cooperation between India and the Netherlands. In addition to traditional sectors such as hydraulic engineering, agriculture, and pharmaceuticals, EAM Jaishankar said India is focused on new areas including semiconductors and sustainable energy, particularly green hydrogen.

He also sought Dutch support for accelerating negotiations on the India-European Union free trade agreement, which India hopes to conclude by the end of 2025.

“After Germany, you are India’s largest trading partner within the European Union and the fourth largest investor in India worldwide,” EAM Jaishankar said. He added that he has been visiting the Netherlands for more than thirty years due to family ties.

Responding to concerns about India’s agricultural market protections, EAM Jaishankar said: “Europe is also shielding its own markets, even more than we are. I am not making sweeping statements about things that are still under negotiation. But to reach a trade agreement, you have to understand the realities of each other’s societies. We are a country of small farmers with small plots of land. People have at most a few cattle. We do not have a history of subsidized agriculture, like you do. If small farmers from India had to compete with large, commercial, subsidized European farmers, that would be unfair.”

On India’s ambition in global manufacturing, he said: “Our hope is indeed that the manufacturing of products in India will grow and that we will be more integrated into global production chains. New technology can be an entry point. So our interests in market access cover a much broader spectrum of modern products, such as electronic hardware, chemicals or all kinds of pharmaceuticals.”

Asked whether India sees itself in a global leadership role, EAM Jaishankar said: “Certainly, but our geopolitical tradition, as a post-colonial society in Asia, is different from that of the West. We have positions and we propagate them, but we also want to respect other people’s sensitivities and sovereignty. That is different from the Western tradition, in which you impose your positions on other countries.”

He said India supports reform of global institutions and seeks a permanent seat on the United Nations Security Council. “That permanent seat on the Security Council is indeed one of our goals. We believe that if the much-needed reform of the UN and the Security Council finally comes about, we will receive a lot of support for our claim.”

“Many international initiatives have come from India in recent years. We understand what our position entails. We are now the fourth largest economy in the world, we have just overtaken Japan. And we know that that comes with responsibilities. We are ready.”

On the question of India mediating in the Russia-Ukraine conflict, EAM Jaishankar said: “India has a position that many countries in the Global South probably share. We strive for a peaceful solution to this conflict. If we can do something about it, we are open to it. But of course this depends on the parties involved.”

Asked why India has not imposed sanctions on Russia, he said: “That sanction culture is a very Western way of maintaining international relations. We do not do national sanctions.”

When asked why India does not take public international stances similar to other post-colonial states such as South Africa, EAM Jaishankar said: “I conduct a foreign policy that suits our national character and our national interests. Following your logic, I can also say: why doesn’t Europe behave more like us? That would be a good idea.”

India launched Operation Sindoor on May 7 as a decisive military response to the April 22 Pahalgam terror attack in which 26 people were killed. Indian Armed Forces targeted terror infrastructure in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Jammu and Kashmir, leading to the death of over 100 terrorists affiliated with terror outfits like the Jaish-e-Mohammed, Lashkar-e-Taiba and Hizbul Mujahideen.

After the attack, Pakistan retaliated with cross-border shelling across the Line of Control and Jammu and Kashmir as well as attempted drone attacks along the border regions, following which India launched a coordinated attack and damaged radar infrastructure, communication centres and airfields across 11 airbases in Pakistan.

After this, on May 10, an understanding of the cessation of hostilities between India and Pakistan was announced. (ANI)

Will Not Allow Others To Steal Punjab’s Share Of Water: CM Mann

Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann on Thursday raised questions on the deployment of CISF by the Centre at the Bhakra Nangal dam, further stating that Haryana would only receive the water belonging to them.

“Yesterday, as per routine, their (Haryana’s) water supply started. We will give them whatever their annual quota amounts to…” Mann said, addressing a press conference.

The CM questioned the silence of the opposition at the deployment of CISF at the Bhakra Nangal Dam, further stating that this would be an added expense for Punjab.

“The BJP people probably never miss a chance to strike a blow at Punjab. Yesterday, they issued a notice dated the 19th, stating that 296 CISF security guards of various ranks will now be deployed at the Bhakra Dam. For this, the cost per person for one year is Rs 2,90,100.This adds up to Rs 8,58,96,000 — an amount that BBMB (Bhakra Beas Management Board) or Punjab will have to bear,” Mann said.

He also questioned the need of the CISF forces when the Punjab Police was doing their role properly.

“Punjab Police has been doing this job for free — so why was there a need for this? Punjab Police is already guarding the dam without any charges. Why should we pay? Why has CISF been deployed? There is no water issue this year, and CISF doesn’t even know how to operate the gates (‘fatta’), so does this mean they’re preparing for theft next year? All this is being done to put more financial burden on us,” he further added.

Earlier on May 11, Mann had accused the Central government of using Bhakra Beas Management Board (BBMB) officials to seize Punjab’s water, pledging to stop the move during his visit to Nangal.

In a post on X, Mann said, “BBMB is not stopping its dirty deeds at the behest of the BJP government at the centre. While Punjab is firmly standing against Pakistan on its border, the BJP government at the Centre is once again going to rob Punjab’s water through BBMB officials.”

He added, “I will not let this happen. I will reach Nangal in a short while and stop their conspiracy from being completed.”

Mann accused the central authorities of exploiting administrative mechanisms like BBMB to bypass state control and infringe upon Punjab’s water rights. (ANI)

Rahim Yar Khan Airbase Is In ICU: Modi

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday highlighted the destruction that happened to Pakistan’s Rahim Yar Khan airbase due to India’s strikes during Operation Sindoor and said that the airbase is in “ICU”.

Addressing his first public rally after Operation Sindoor in Rajasthan’s Bikaner, PM Modi said, “When I came from Delhi to here, I landed in Bikaner’s Nal Airport. Pakistan has also tried to make this a target but they failed to damage this airbase. There is a Rahim Yar Khan airbase situated on the other side of the border. It is in ICU. Don’t know when it will open? India’s forces have destroyed this air base.”

PM Modi also recalled his statement in Churu, reaffirming his commitment to the nation: “Swear by this soil, I will not let the country fall, I will not let the country bow.”

He declared from Rajasthan that those who attempted to erase the sacred sindoor have been reduced to dust, and those who spilled India’s blood have now paid the price in full. The Prime Minister stated that those who assumed India would remain silent are now in hiding, while those who boasted about their weapons now lie buried beneath rubble.

Emphasizing that Operation Sindoor was not an act of revenge, but a new form of justice, he remarked that it was not just an expression of outrage but a display of India’s unwavering strength and determination. He asserted that the nation has adopted a bold approach, striking the enemy directly and decisively. “Crushing terrorism is not just a strategy but a principle, this is India, this is the new India”, stressed PM Modi.

“Pakistan has forgotten one thing: that now Modi, the servant of Mother India, is standing here with his head held high. Modi’s mind is cool; it stays cool, but Modi’s blood is hot. Now there is no blood flowing in Modi’s veins, but hot Sindoor. Now there will be neither trade nor talk with Pakistan. If there will be talk, it will only be about Pakistan Occupied Kashmir (PoK),” PM Modi said at a public rally in Bikaner.

“Now India has made it clear… Pakistan will have to pay a heavy price for every terrorist attack. And this price… will be paid by Pakistan’s army… will be paid by Pakistan’s economy… Ye shodh pratishodh ka khel nahin, ye nyay ka naya swaroop hai, ye Operation Sindoor hai. This is not just an agitation; this is the ‘Raudra Roop’ of a strong India. Ye Bharat ka naya swaroop hai. Pehle ghar mein ghus ke kiya the vaar, ab seene pe kiya prahar hai. (First, we entered their house and attacked; now we have attacked them on their chests)… This is the policy and the strategy to destroy the fangs of terrorism… This is new India,” PM Modi added.

In reference to the abeyance of the Indus Water Treaty following the Pahalgam terror attack, PM Modi said, “India has made it unequivocally clear that Pakistan will bear a heavy cost for every terrorist attack. This cost will be paid by Pakistan’s military and its economy. If Pakistan persists in exporting terrorism, it will find itself begging for every last penny. Pakistan will not receive a single drop of water from India’s share. The days of playing with the blood of Indians are over – it will now come at a steep price. This is the policy; this is the method to crush terrorism. This is India, the new India,” he added. (ANI)

J-K: Schools Reopen In Shelling Affected Areas In Rajouri

Shelling across the Line of Control (LoC) during India-Pakistan tensions earlier this month in Dhangri, Block of Rajouri, District in Jammu and Kashmir, has led to significant damage to property in the area.
