RJD Fears Kanhaiya Kumar May Challenge Leadership: Prashant Kishor on Van Snub

Jan Suraaj Party (JSP) chief Prashant Kishor has heaped praise on NSUI national in-charge Kanhaiya Kumar, calling him “Congress’s most influential leader in Bihar,” while hinting at internal tensions within the INDIA bloc. Kishor claimed that the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) is “scared” of leaders like Kanhaiya, fearing they may “challenge the leadership.”

His remarks came after Kanhaiya Kumar, along with Pappy Yadav, was barred by security personnel from boarding a van during the Mahagathbandhan protest against electoral roll revision in poll-bound Bihar.

Speaking to ANI about the incident, Kishor said that the RJD do not want an influential leader like Kanhaiya to be “active” in Congress. He added that Congress has “no base” in Bihar, while suggesting their dependence on the RJD for the upcoming Bihar Assembly election.

“This is their internal matter. However, Kanhaiya Kumar is one of the most influential leaders of the Congress party in Bihar… This proves what we have been saying, that the RJD leadership is so scared of people like Kanhaiya Kumar that they feel that if a new person comes, he will challenge the leadership,” he said.

He further added, “RJD will never want leaders like him or other influential leaders to be active in the Congress…Congress has no base in Bihar…Congress only does what the RJD leadership decides.”

On Wednesday, Kanhaiya Kumar and Pappu Yadav attempted to board the van carrying Congress leader Rahul Gandhi and RJD leader Tejashwi Yadav during the ‘Bihar Bandh’ rally in Patna but were stopped by security guards.

Videos of the incident show both leaders being prevented from joining Rahul Gandhi and Tejashwi Yadav, sparking speculation of rifts within the alliance.

The rally was part of the INDIA bloc’s protest against the Election Commission’s decision to conduct a special intensive revision of electoral rolls in Bihar, ahead of the upcoming state assembly elections. (ANI)

Bihar Election: SC Agrees Fresh Pleas Challenging ECI’s Voter Revision Drive

The Supreme Court on Wednesday agreed to hear two more pleas challenging the Election Commission of India’s move to conduct a Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls in poll-bound Bihar.

A bench of Justices Sudhanshu Dhulia and Joymalya Bagchi agreed to hear the pleas on July 10, along with other pending petitions. Advocate Vrinda Grover and another advocate mentioned for urgent listing.

Grover said the plea filed by two social activists, Arshad Ajmal and Rupesh Kumar, challenged the poll panel’s June 24 decision to conduct the SIR of electoral rolls in the state and urged for listing it with other matters.

On July 7, the apex court agreed to hear on July 10 petitions challenging the ECI’s decision.

The petitions challenging the ECI decision were filed by RJD MP Manoj Jha, the Association for Democratic Reforms (ADR), PUCL, activist Yogendra Yadav, Trinamool MP Mahua Moitra, and former Bihar MLA Mujahid Alam.

The petitions sought a direction to quash the ECI’s June 24 directive, which requires large sections of voters in Bihar to submit proof of citizenship to remain on the electoral rolls.

ADR, in its petition, has submitted that the ECI order imposes fresh documentation requirements and shifts the burden of proof from the state to the citizen.

The petition also raised concerns over the exclusion of widely held documents like Aadhaar and ration cards, stating that this would disproportionately affect the poor and marginalised voters, especially in rural Bihar.

“The SIR order, if not set aside, can arbitrarily and without due process disenfranchise lakhs of voters from electing their representatives, thereby disrupting free and fair elections and democracy in the country, which are part of the basic structure of the Constitution,” the petition submitted.

RJD MP said the decision, which has been taken without any consultation with the political parties, is “being used to justify aggressive and opaque revisions of electoral rolls that disproportionately target Muslim, Dalit and poor migrant communities, as such, they are not random patterns but are engineered exclusions.” (ANI)

Shah: After Retirement, Will Devote Life To Vedas, Upanishads, Natural Farming

Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Wednesday revealed a glimpse into his post-retirement life, saying that he will dedicate the rest of his life after politics to Vedas, Upanishads and natural farming.

Shah made these remarks at the ‘Sahkar Samvaad,’ held in Delhi with women from Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan and other workers associated with the cooperative sector.

“In front of us, there is a lot of work to be done on fertilisers. The cooperative sector should think about it. I have decided that whenever I retire, I will dedicate the rest of my life to Vedas, Upanishads, and natural farming,” Shah said.

Highlighting the importance of natural farming, he added, “This natural farming has such a good scientific use that it gives so many benefits.”

Further, the office of Amit Shah highlighted how the cooperative sector has helped many farmers sell their products in the market. He gave an example of how some farmers are selling camel milk, which he said has medicinal properties.

“Miral Ben Rabari from Gujarat told Union Home and Cooperation Minister Shri @AmitShah ji how farmers selling camel milk are profiting through cooperatives and how people are benefiting from the medicinal properties of camel milk,” it said in a post on X.

Earlier, on the occasion of the fourth foundation day of the Ministry of Cooperation, a grand Sakhkar Samelan was organised in Anand, known as the Milk Capital of India, in the presence of Amit Shah and Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel.

Inaugurating various development works of the world-renowned Amul Dairy, Shah called for expanding the cooperative movement nationwide based on the five Ps – People, PACS, Platform, Policy, and Prosperity, said a release from the Gujarat CMO.

Shah stated that the convergence of the fourth anniversary of the Ministry of Cooperation, the 60th anniversary of the National Dairy Development Board, and the 150th birth anniversary year of Sardar Patel has led to numerous initiatives in Anand through this cooperative conference. The Ministry of Cooperation has been working over the past four years on the foundation of the five Ps – People (service-oriented), PACS (strengthening Primary Agricultural Credit Societies), Platform (digital platform), Policy (new policies), and Prosperity (societal prosperity). Under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the scope of cooperative activities has been expanding. (ANI)

Kanhaiya, Pappu Yadav Denied Entry Into Rahul’s Van At Mahagathbandhan Protest

Congress leader and National Students’ Union of India (NSUI) national incharge Kanhaiya Kumar, along with Pappu Yadav, who is an independent MP from Purnia Lok Sabha constituency, on Wednesday were snubbed by security from boarding a van during the Mahagathbandhan protest against electoral roll revision in poll-bound Bihar.

The incident occurred when both leaders attempted to board the van carrying Congress leader Rahul Gandhi and RJD leader Tejashwi Yadav, but were stopped by security guards.

Videos of the incident show Kanhaiya Kumar and Pappu Yadav being prevented from joining Rahul Gandhi and Tejashwi Yadav on the van, sparking speculation about internal conflicts within the alliance.

The rally was part of the INDIA opposition alliance’s protest against the Election Commission’s decision to conduct a special intensive revision of electoral rolls in Bihar, ahead of the state assembly elections.

Earlier in the day, Lok Sabha Leader of the Opposition (LoP) Rahul Gandhi warned that the pattern of electoral manipulation seen in Maharashtra could be repeated in Bihar.

Speaking at the Bihar Bandh rally, Rahul Gandhi said, “The way there was vote theft in the Maharashtra elections, a similar attempt is being made in Bihar.”

Gandhi also raised questions over the rise in voter numbers between the Lok Sabha and Assembly elections in Maharashtra, alleging that all newly added votes went to the BJP. He claimed that the INDIA alliance’s poor performance in the Maharashtra Assembly polls, despite a Lok Sabha majority, prompted a deeper data review that revealed suspicious voting patterns.

He also said that between the Lok Sabha and assembly elections, one crore new voters were added, and in the assembly elections, 10 per cent more people voted.

Speaking at the Bihar Bandh rally, Rahul Gandhi said, “Shortly after the Lok Sabha elections, assembly elections were held in Maharashtra and Haryana. In the Lok Sabha elections, the INDIA alliance got a majority in Maharashtra. But just a few months later, in the assembly elections, the INDIA alliance did poorly. We didn’t say much at the time, but we began working on and investigating the matter. The 21st century is the century of data, so we started studying the data. Upon investigation, we found that between the Lok Sabha and assembly elections, approximately one crore new voters were added. In the assembly elections, 10 per cent more people voted. When we checked the origins of these new voters, we were surprised. In every constituency where voter numbers increased, the BJP won. All the new votes went to the BJP.”

Gandhi accused the Election Commission of withholding crucial voter data and booth videography from the Maharashtra Assembly elections, alleging irregularities in voter registration.

Gandhi, along with Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) leader Tejashwi Yadav, today led the ‘Bihar Bandh’ protest in Patna against the Election Commission of India’s (ECI) decision to undertake the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of the electoral rolls ahead of the Bihar Assembly elections.

Several senior leaders of the Indian National Developmental Inclusive Alliance (INDIA) bloc, including CPI General Secretary D Raja, CPI (Marxist-Leninist) Liberation leader Dipankar Bhattacharya, Bihar Congress President Rajesh Ram, Kanhaiya Kumar, and Sanjay Yadav, also participated in the protest.

Meanwhile, the Election Commission of India (ECI) has reaffirmed its commitment to protecting every Indian’s right to vote by highlighting Article 326 of the Constitution, which guarantees universal adult suffrage.

Article 326 ensures that every Indian citizen above 18 years of age can vote unless disqualified due to non-residence, unsoundness of mind, crime, or corrupt practices. This provision underscores India’s commitment to broader democratic participation and was instrumental in lowering the voting age from 21 to 18 years in 1989.

The ECI has emphasised its dedication to upholding constitutional principles by adhering to Article 326 and Section 16 of the Representation of People Act, 1950. The commission has stated that it will “scrupulously” follow these provisions during the revision of electoral rolls, ensuring that no eligible citizen is disenfranchised.

The Election Commission of India (ECI) has posted an image on its ‘X’ account highlighting Article 326 of the Constitution of India, which mandates universal adult suffrage, ensuring every Indian citizen above 18 years of age can vote unless disqualified.

“Article 326 – Elections to the House of the People and to the Legislative Assemblies of States to be on the basis of adult suffrage. The elections to the House of the People and the Legislative Assembly of every State shall be on the basis of adult suffrage, that is to say, every person who is a citizen of India and who is not less than eighteen years of age on such date as may be fixed in that behalf by or under any law made by the appropriate Legislature and is not otherwise disqualified under this Constitution or any law made by the appropriate Legislature on the ground of non-residence, unsoundness of mind, crime or corrupt or illegal practice, shall be entitled to be registered as a voter at any such election,” posted by ECI on X.
