BJP Assam Condemns Alleged Attack On CM Sarma’s Convoy

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Assam Pradesh on Tuesday strongly condemned the alleged attack on Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma’s convoy in Golaghat, where Congress workers reportedly hurled water bottles, said the BJP spokesperson Kalyan Gogoi in a press statement.

The party described the incident as an attack on democratic values and accused the Congress of resorting to “Naxalite-like” tactics out of political frustration.

Addressing a press conference at the party’s state headquarters, BJP Assam General Secretary Rituparna Baruah said, “Unable to counter Hon’ble Chief Minister and the BJP Government’s politics of liberation and development, the Congress has now resorted to Naxalite-like behaviour.”

Baruah further added, “It is shocking that even while in Opposition, the Congress can act in such an undemocratic manner, then imagine what may happen if Congress comes into power. Attacking an elected Chief Minister of a state exposes the true political character of the Congress.”

The press briefing was also attended by BJP Assam Vice Presidents Manoj Baruah and Ratna Singh, along with Chief Spokesperson Kishore Upadhyay.

In a strong show of protest, BJP Yuva Morcha (BJYM) karyakartas staged sit-in demonstrations across all district and sub-divisional headquarters in the state. Senior party leaders and thousands of BJYM workers from 39 organisational districts participated in the state-wide protests.

In Guwahati, the protest saw the participation of State Vice-Presidents Jury Sharma Bordoloi and Ratna Singh, State General Secretaries Diplu Ranjan Sarma and Rituparna Baruah, Secretary Siddhanku Ankur Baruah, ASTC Vice-Chairman Pranabjyoti Lahkar, and State BJYM President Rakesh Das, said the statement. Air India Delhi-Vienna Flight Drops 900 Feet Mid-Air

An Air India flight en route to Vienna from Delhi experienced a serious mid-air incident on June 14, during which the aircraft suddenly lost altitude by nearly 900 feet, prompting an investigation by the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA).

Air India, in an official statement, confirmed that both pilots involved in the incident have been removed from active duty pending the outcome of the probe. The airline stated that the matter was reported to the DGCA immediately, by aviation regulations.

‘Upon receipt of the pilot’s report, the matter was disclosed to DGCA following regulations. Subsequently, upon receipt of data from the aircraft’s recorders, further investigation was initiated. The pilots have been off-rostered pending the outcome of the investigation,” an airline spokesperson said.

According to sources, the DGCA has ordered a probe, and an investigation is currently underway.

This event occurred just two days after a tragic crash involving another Air India flight departing from Ahmedabad, which resulted in the deaths of all but one person on board. The close timing of the two incidents has heightened scrutiny over flight safety and regulatory oversight.

Earlier, the DGCA safety audit revealed recurring maintenance issues and inadequate rectification of defects across Air India’s fleet. These findings follow a string of technical snags reported on multiple Air India flights earlier this month. As part of the ongoing investigation, authorities will examine several possible causes, including adverse weather conditions, mechanical failures, or pilot error. They may recommend stricter inspections or revisions to operational procedures. (ANI)

The two were spotted by fans and paparazzi during the journey, and photos and videos of their ride quickly went viral on social media.

The videos show the two actors sitting next to each other. Aditya can be seen clicking a selfie with Sara. The two are also seen being greeted by fans during the ride.

Sara looked stylish in a navy-blue co-ord set that included a sleeveless crop top and matching trousers. Aditya wore a navy and white striped shirt with blue pants, looking casual and smart.

The trailer for Metro…In Dino was released earlier this month. Along with Sara and Aditya, the film also stars Pankaj Tripathi, Konkona Sen Sharma, Fatima Sana Shaikh, and Ali Fazal.

SRK, Anil Heap Praise On Anupam’s ‘Tanvi the Great’

The trailer of actor Anupam Kher’s upcoming directorial ‘Tanvi The Great’ has received widespread acclaim from fans and celebrities, including Shah Rukh Khan and Anil Kapoor.

The film, which tells the story of a young autistic woman aspiring to join the Indian Army, has sparked anticipation ahead of its theatrical release on July 18.

Taking to his X handle, Shah Rukh Khan commended Kher’s vision and courage, writing, “To my friend @AnupamPKher who has always taken chances… whether it’s acting, filmmaking or life!! The trailer of #TanviTheGreat is looking awesome. All the best on this journey!!”

Responding to Khan’s post, Kher expressed gratitude, reposting the message with the caption, “Thank you, my dearest friend, for your love and appreciation.”

Anil Kapoor also lauded the film in a social media post, calling it “powerful, heartfelt, and deeply inspiring.” Kapoor added, “Some stories stay with you long after the screen fades to black…#TanviTheGreat is one of them. All my prayers and luck for the success of this labour of love.”

‘Tanvi The Great’ has already made its mark on the international stage. The film had its global premiere at the Cannes Film Festival earlier this year, where it received a standing ovation.

It has since been screened at the New York Indian Film Festival, Houston, and Austin, drawing attention for both its narrative and performances.

Notably, Oscar winner Robert De Niro was among the attendees at its New York gala screening.

Speaking to ANI, Anupam Kher shared that the film is about “igniting the goodness in human beings,” which he believes has become buried in today’s fast-paced world.

“We all believe in goodness… but situations have made us forget it. When people watch this film, those original emotions return. The tears of viewers, the reaction to the music by MM Keeravani — it’s all because we are connecting to that lost part of ourselves,” Kher said.

The film stars debutant Shubhangi Dutt as 21-year-old Tanvi Raina, a young woman with autism determined to fulfil her late father’s dream: to salute the Indian flag at Siachen, the highest battlefield in the world.

Her journey, as portrayed in the trailer, challenges societal expectations and institutional limitations.

In an interview, Dutt admitted she never imagined her first film would be a socially driven drama. “We’ve all grown up watching typical Bollywood stories, but something like this… I never saw it coming,” she said.

Despite her initial surprise, Dutt expressed deep gratitude, “Even ten years from now, I don’t think anything can match Tanvi The Great. This will always be special.”

Kher emphasised that the film touches on a “universal problem”, the underrepresentation and misunderstanding of individuals with autism.

“It’s a film from India, for the world,” he said, adding that the film’s success in international markets reflected its broad resonance.

Veteran actors Jackie Shroff, Boman Irani, Pallavi Joshi, and Karan Tacker also feature in prominent roles.

Music for the film is composed by Academy Award winner M. M. Keeravani.

The project is backed by Anupam Kher Studios in collaboration with NFDC, with global distribution managed by Excel Entertainment and AA Films.

The film is scheduled for a nationwide theatrical release on July 18, 2025. (ANI)

Maalik Trailer Out: Rajkummar Unleashes His Dark Side As Gangster

The makers of the actor Rajkummar Rao’s upcoming political drama film ‘Maalik’ have finally released its trailer on Tuesday. Directed by Pulkit, the film also stars Bengali cinema star Prosenjit Chatterjee in the lead role.

In Maalik, Rajkummar Rao plays a ruthless gangster who appears to stop at nothing to fulfil his ambition of political power and fame. With his rugged look and high-octane action moves, Rajkummar portrays a raw and intense character, unlike his recent roles in comedy movies such as ‘Stree’, ‘Stree 2’, and ‘Bhool Chuk Maaf.’

Also starring Manushi Chhillar in a lead role, along with Saurabh Shukla and Saurabh Sachdeva in pivotal parts, Maalik is set against the gritty backdrop of 1980s Allahabad. It’s a hard-hitting tale of ambition, power, and survival, that explores the price of rising in a world ruled by guns, greed, and loyalty.

In the trailer, Rajkummar is seen firing bullets at the front entrance of the house. Guns seem to be the actor’s third hand in the movie, as he appears to kill countless goons in the trailer.

Rajkummar’s political ambitions face a strong opposition from a local strongman played brilliantly by Saurabh Shukla. Prosenjit Chatterjee plays the role of a cop who is tasked with finishing ‘Maalik’.

The movie is produced by Kumar Taurani & Jay Shewakramani under the banner of Tips Films and Northern Lights Films.

Rajkummar Rao shared the trailer of the film on his Instagram handle. While sharing the clip, the actor highlighted one of his dialogues in the caption section of his post.

He wrote, “Janam se nahin Qismat se banega, majboor baap ka mazboot beta, Maalik.”

Talking about his character, Rajkummar Rao says, “This is the first time I’m doing such a hard-hitting role. It really pushed me as an actor and let me explore a darker, more intense side. Playing a layered, ruthless gangster was both thrilling and challenging, and that’s what made it so exciting. I can’t wait for the audience to experience the gritty, gripping world we’ve created,” as quoted in a press note shared by the makers of ‘Maalik’.

Manushi Chhillar also shared, “Maalik is really special to me. I got to portray a character I’ve never explored before, and the film allowed me to step into a world that’s gritty, raw and intense. It’s been such a thrilling journey, and I truly hope the audience connects with it,” as quoted in a press note.

The film is slated to release in cinemas on July 11, 2025. (ANI)

Kolkata Gangrape Case: Accused’s Father Expresses Faith In Judiciary

The father of one of the accused in the alleged gangrape case at a law college in Kolkata has expressed faith in the judiciary, saying that the court will decide the further course of action.

“The matter is subjudice and investigation is underway. I have been saying from the beginning that I have faith in the judiciary. The court will decide the further course of action,” the man told ANI on Tuesday.

He added that he trusts the state government, police, and administration, and is confident that the truth will come out during the investigation. Responding to claims that his son had previously registered cases against him, the man said, “I trust the state government, police and the administration. People are saying there were cases already registered against my son, so why was he not arrested back then? I am sure the truth will come out…”

On June 25, a female student was allegedly gangraped inside the South Calcutta Law College in Kasba area in the capital city of West Bengal.

Meanwhile, BJP leader Samik Bhattacharya has strongly criticised the Mamata Banerjee-led state government. “There is a total absence of law and order. There is total anarchy and a breakdown of constitutional machinery. What more can we expect from politicised administration?” Bhattacharya said.

He attributed the State’s deteriorating law and order situation to the politicisation of the administration and also targeted the state government for allegedly being intolerant to criticism. “All anti-social elements think it is their government. All college campuses and hostels are unsafe. When the state government is not ready to hear criticism, what can be done? If there is any intolerant government, it is the TMC government,” Bhattacharya alleged.

Bhattacharya further accused the police of attempting to cover up evidence. “The police’s work is to wipe away the evidence. No power in the world can bring TMC back to power for the fourth time,” the BJP leader said.

Earlier, Kolkata Police Commissioner Manoj Kumar Verma urged everyone, including mediapersons, to refrain from revealing the identity of the survivor of the alleged gangrape case in social media or anywhere else.

Manoj Kumar Verma said, “The incident that took place at South Calcutta Law College is being investigated. This is a very sensitive case, and I do not want to reveal the details of the investigation at the moment. In less than 12 hours, three people were arrested. Later, another person was also arrested. We are collecting all the evidence. The identity of the victim is a very sensitive issue, and I request that everyone refrain from revealing the identity of the victim on social media or anywhere else. I am making this request on behalf of the Kolkata Police. All necessary actions are being taken by police, and I assure that police will do everything possible.”

A four-member BJP fact-finding committee also visited Kolkata to assess the situation. The delegation includes former Union Ministers Satpal Singh and Meenakshi Lekhi, Lok Sabha MP Biplab Kumar Deb, and Rajya Sabha MP Manan Kumar Mishra.

The main accused in the case, Manojit Mishra, has been taken into custody along with three others. The SIT continues to probe the matter. (ANI)
