Shah, Akhilesh Exchange Barbs In Lok Sabha

Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav and Union Home Minister Amit Shah had a heated exchange during the second day of discussion in Lok Sabha on Operation Sindoor and the Pahalgam terror attack on Tuesday.

Shah informed the House that three terrorists involved in the April 22 Pahalgam attack were killed in the recent Operation Mahadev in Jammu and Kashmir. He claimed the Army and CRPF had neutralised the “Aaka” (Master) of terrorists.

After this the Samajwadi Party leader interjected to say “Un ke aaqa Pakistan mein hain (Their masters are in Pakistan). To this the Home Minister retorted “Kaun… aapki Pakistan se baat hoti hai kya (Who is that; do you speak with Pakistan)?”

There was a brief uproar by Opposition MPs who rose from their seats and objected to Shah’s remarks.

The Lok Sabha MP from Kannauj Yadav spoke after DMK MP Kanimozhi to launch a blistering attack on the Centre stating that instead of the Government announcing the cessation of hostilities with Pakistan, their “great friend” US President Donald Trump ended up announcing the ceasfire between the two countries after ‘Operation Sindoor’.

“How did the government back down? What was the reason for which the government had to announce a ceasefire? I had a hope that the government will announce the ceasefire. But their friendship is very deep, so they told their friend (US) that you should only announce the ceasefire, we don’t need it, we will accept it from you only,” the Lok Sabha MP said during his address as the Parliament discussed India’s strong, successful and decisive ‘Operation Sindoor.’

“What answer is the government accepting this? Actually, the topic I have come here to talk about, this should not have been an issue in the first place. There are many issues being made, but this issue is not ruling or Opposition, this is about nation’s security,” Yadav said

United States President Trump has repeatedly claimed that he had a hand in enabling a “ceasefire” deal with India and Pakistan, claiming to have used trade and tariffs to let the two nations stop hostilities. The Indian government however, has repeatedly denied the claims by President Trump, saying that the cessation of hostilities happened only after the two sides agreed between themselves rather than through a third party.

The Samajwadi Party MP also praised the Indian armed forces, saying “if we count the daring armed forces of the world, Indian forces will be at the front of that list. Everyone lauds their courage.”

However, the Kannauj MP also took a jibe at misinformation being spread by certain news channels over the alleged capture of Karachi and Lahore, or Pakistan Occupied Kashmir (PoK). He said that anyone watching the news channels would be confident of India’s victory, but rather saw the news of cessation of hostilities.

“I am happy to know that not only were Pakistani terror bases destroyed, but also India reached Pakistani airbases. We felt before that India could teach a lesson to Pakistan, give a proper reply. But when we were watching the various channels, then it felt like Karachi, Lahore is ours, some even said we captured some (Pakistanis). With the visuals of the channels it felt like PoK was ours only,” he said.

Criticising the government further, that while he sees “different engines of government” clashing together, they have been united regarding PoK.

“But, I see different engines of government clashing together, it is possible that it is my false belief, but regarding PoK we see all the engines together. When it comes to reaching PoK some even said that within 6 months we will get a chance to get back PoK.” he said.

Taking a jibe at the NDA MPs during his address, he said, “I am happy to see that whenever the Opposition MPs are speaking, they are getting praises for their words, but when the ruling alliance speaks then their own people are not praising them.”

Earlier today, Congress leader Gaurav Gogoi, who is also the Deputy Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha, targeted the Central government over the US president’s remarks, as he asked “if Islamabad was ready to kneel down, “why did you stop, and to whom did you surrender?”

“The entire country, and the Opposition, were supporting PM Modi. Suddenly, on 10th May, we got to know that there had been a ceasefire. Why? We wanted to know from PM Modi that if Pakistan was ready to kneel down, then why did you stop, and to whom did you surrender? The US President has said this 26 times that he forced India and Pakistan to announce a ceasefire,” Gogoi said.

India carried out Operation Sindoor in response to Pahalgam terror attack and carried out precision strikes on terror infrastructure in Pakistan and PoJK. India repelled subsequent Pakstani aggression and pounded its airbases. (ANI)

Himachal: 3 dead, Woman Missing As Heavy Rains Trigger Flood-Like Situation In Mandi

Three people lost their lives, and one woman is reported missing after heavy rains lashed Himachal Pradesh’s Mandi district late Monday night, triggering a flood-like situation and widespread damage, officials said on Tuesday.

Speaking to ANI, District Commissioner (DC) Apoorv Devgan said, “The stretch of jail road has been affected by heavy rain. 3 people have died in the area near Jail Road. One woman is missing. The search operation by the police, NDRF and Home Guard teams is underway. The roads are also being cleared. Many vehicles have been piled up near the hospital. Casualties have been reported, along with that, many houses have been damaged.”

He added, “We have set up a relief camp in Vipasha Sadan. Officials from the electricity, PWD, Jal Shakti, and other departments are working together to provide relief.”

A flood was observed in various parts of Mandi following heavy rainfall in the city. The local police, NDRF, and Home Guards team were deployed for relief and rescue work.

Continuous heavy rainfall since late night yesterday has disrupted life in the Mandi district of Himachal Pradesh. The region has been experiencing incessant rain since 11 PM, resulting in a flood-like situation across various parts of the town.

One of the worst-affected areas is the Zonal Hospital Mandi, where there is excessive water accumulation and overflow from nearby drains. The main access road to the hospital has been closed.

Reports from local administration confirm multiple landslides in and around Mandi town, disrupting traffic and endangering residents living in landslide-prone areas. Debris from these landslides has blocked key internal roads, adding to the chaos.

The Chandigarh-Manali National Highway (NH-3) has been blocked at multiple points between Mandi and Kullu, making the situation even more dire.

Several vehicles are stranded, and long queues have been reported from various choke points along the route.

Earlier, the State Disaster Management Authority (SDMA) and the State Emergency Operations Centre (SEOC) informed about the widespread disruption in the state, where 200 roads remain blocked, 62 power transformers are disrupted, and 110 water supply schemes were affected as of the evening of July 28, due to the ongoing heavy rains across the state.

The total death toll in the state during the 2025 monsoon season (from June 20 to July 28) has reached 164. Of these, 90 deaths are attributed to rain-related causes such as landslides, flash floods, cloudbursts, drowning, and electrocution, while 74 people have lost their lives in road accidents, according to official data.

District-wise, Mandi has recorded the highest number of fatalities (32), followed by Kangra (24) and Chamba (17). The devastation includes not only human casualties but also significant damage to homes, livestock, and public property, with over Rs 1,52,311 lakh in economic losses reported so far. (ANI)

Kaziranga’s Roaring Success: Home To World’s 3rd Highest Tiger Density, Says Report

Assam’s Kaziranga National Park and Tiger Reserve has achieved another milestone, as it has become the home of the third highest density of tigers in the world, said an official statement from the Kaziranga National Park.

Kaziranga has the 3rd highest density of tigers (18 tigers per 100 sq km) in the world.

On the occasion of Global Tiger Day, the national park has celebrated a significant milestone in wildlife conservation with the release of the “Status of Tigers in Kaziranga, 2024” report.

“This vital document underscores our unwavering commitment to protecting our natural heritage for future generations,” Sonali Ghosh, Field Director of Kaziranga National Park & Tiger Reserve, said.

Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma wrote on X, “Assam is not just protecting tigers; it is reclaiming their kingdom. With the world’s third-highest tiger density, expanded reserves, and bold action against encroachment, the striped beasts of Assam continue to roam with power and pride.”

Sonali Ghosh, Field Director of Kaziranga National Park & Tiger Reserve, stated that the tiger population in Kaziranga Tiger Reserve has reached an impressive 148, marking a significant increase from the previous estimate of 2022.

According to Ghose,”This growth is particularly notable due to the first-time sampling of the Biswanath Wildlife Division, where 27 recorded tigers have contributed to the overall increase. In the core Eastern Assam Wildlife Division, the population grew from 104 in 2022 to 115 in 2024, while the Nagaon Wildlife Division maintained a stable count of 6 tigers. The methodology for the tiger count involved the deployment of remotely triggered camera traps in accordance with the Phase IV Protocol of the National Tiger Conservation Authority (NTCA) and the Wildlife Institute of India, which follows a statistically robust mark-recapture framework to estimate tiger abundance and density.”

“Paired camera traps were systematically placed across 1,307.49 square km within three divisions of Kaziranga Tiger Reserve between Dec 2023 and April 2024, using a structured grid-based design to ensure comprehensive spatial coverage. Trap sites within each grid cell were selected based on intensive sign surveys to maximise the probability of detecting tigers and co-predators. Based on statistically robust techniques, a total of 148 adult tigers were identified in KTR’s three divisions–83 females, 55 males, and 10 individuals with undetermined gender,” Ghosh added.

The Field Director of Kaziranga National Park & Tiger Reserve further said that key drivers of this encouraging rise in tiger population are habitat expansion and protection.

“An additional area of 200 square km, including 12.82 square km of encroachment-free area, has been added in recent years under Burhachapori-Laokhowa sanctuaries under Nagaon Wildlife Division, bringing more habitat under protection of the Tiger Reserve. This strategic extension has significantly expanded the landscape available to tigers, enabling increased movement, breeding, and dispersal opportunities across their range. In addition, the enhanced use of technology has revolutionised wildlife monitoring and protection. Along with camera traps, tools such as M-STrIPES (Monitoring System for Tigers – Intensive Protection and Ecological Status), drones, and infrared-based electronic surveillance systems (“Electronic Eye”) are now integral to daily operations. These technological advancements have greatly improved anti-poaching measures, movement tracking, and habitat monitoring, leading to greater safety and better data,” she said.

She also added that, crucially, the integration of advanced technologies with the meticulous efforts of the forest frontline staff, including 113 trained Van Durgas, the female frontline staff of the Tiger Reserve, and the active support of civil society organisations and local communities, has significantly helped fill historical data gaps.

“In recent years, Kaziranga’s tiger monitoring has produced gender-wise segregation data, offering a more accurate and detailed understanding of the reserve’s tiger demography. The rise in the tiger population is more than just a statistic; it signifies the health and resilience of the entire ecosystem within Kaziranga, which supports a diverse range of flora and fauna. The thriving tiger population is a testament to our successful conservation efforts.

While we celebrate this milestone, we also recognise the responsibility it brings. It is crucial to continue investing in conservation initiatives, strengthen community involvement, and promote awareness about the importance of biodiversity,” Ghosh said. (ANI)

Rani Kapur Breaks Silence: A Mother’s Plea For Truth And Legacy

Rani Kapur, mother of former Chairperson of Sona Comstar, late Sunjay Kapur has spoken publicly for the first time since her son’s untimely death in London. Her message carried the weight of grief, longing, and a steadfast resolve to protect the legacy she helped build alongside her late husband.

“I still don’t know what happened to my son,” she said, her voice heavy with sorrow. “I’m old now. I need closure before I go,” Rani Kapur said in video interview with ANI.

Though frail with age, Rani Kapur’s memories remain vivid and purposeful. “I remember the early days of Sona—built with care, sacrifice, and love,” she shared, underscoring her enduring emotional connection to the company’s roots. She spoke with clarity and conviction about her role in shaping the business, standing alongside her husband as they laid its foundation.

Her statement follows Sona Comstar’s official stance that Rani Kapur has not held any direct or indirect involvement in the company since 2019. Yet her words suggest otherwise—a quiet but determined challenge to that narrative, and a call to preserve her family’s vision and legacy. “I am here to remind the world that our family’s legacy must not be lost. It must be passed on, as my husband always wanted it to be.”

Citing her declining health, Kapur stated that she would not make further public comments. “Given my health and my age, I will not be making any further comments. My legal team will address everything necessary.” Her tone, dignified yet resolute, signaled that the next steps would be handled formally and decisively.

The controversy took another turn when Sona BLW Precision Forgings Ltd (Sona Comstar) issued a detailed response to Rani Kapur’s claims. The company called her allegations “baseless” and “legally untenable,” asserting in a statement to the BSE that she has no standing in its affairs.

Prior to her public statement, Rani Kapur had addressed a letter to the board alleging that she was coerced into signing documents behind locked doors shortly after her son’s death, which she described as “highly suspicious.”

She also claimed she had been denied access to her accounts and left dependent on a few individuals for basic survival. According to her, no one had been authorized to represent the Kapur family on the company’s board. She had called for the postponement of the Annual General Meeting, which ultimately proceeded as scheduled.

Sona BLW Precision Forgings has issued a fresh statement on July 28 amid a tussle over family representation on the board, clarifying that Rani Kapur, mother of late Sunjay Kapur, has ‘no locus standi’ on any matter related to the company, denying any assertion of the firm being a family-run business as ‘factually incorrect and misleading’.

The company said that Rani Kapur who wrote to the company through her legal representative stating seeking deferral of the board meeting on July 25, is neither a shareholder nor an official of the company, and her consent is not legally needed to run the business.

“Mrs. Rani Kapur has had no role, direct or indirect, in Sona Comstar since at least 2019. She is neither a shareholder, director, nor officer of the Company. As such, she has no locus standi on any matter related to the Company. Any insinuation that she was coerced into signing documents or that her consent is required for Company affairs is completely baseless and legally untenable,” the statement said.

“The current board of 9 members include two executive directors — both seasoned professionals with no affiliation to the Kapur family — and six independent directors with exemplary reputations and distinguished careers. The promoter entity holds no executive roles and has no involvement in day-to-day management or strategic control of the Company,” the statement read.

Sona BLW reiterated that the company has 71.98% shareholding with institutional and public investors, and is not a family-run business. “The promoter entity holds a stake of 28.02% and exercises no special rights or control. The assertion that the Company is a family-run business is factually incorrect and misleading.”

After the untimely demise of Sunjay Kapur, the board had re-appointed industry veteran Jeffrey Mark Overly as an Independent director for a second term, and later, Priya Sachdev Kapur as a Non-Executive director on the board. The decisions were ‘fully compliant’ with all laws and corporate governance norms, said the company. “Their appointments were ratified by an overwhelming majority of shareholders — 98.9% and 99.4% respectively — clearly reflecting broad investor confidence,” the statement added

Pointing at the “continued dissemination” of false narratives for “personal legal agendas”, Sona BLW said shareholder’ value is being eroded. “With over 400,000 public shareholders, such actions are not only reckless but deeply harmful to the interests of the company.”

On July 25, Rani Kapur had raised strong objections to the AGM being held at a time of mourning for the family, and amid the “suspicious” and sudden death of her son.

Sunjay Kapur had passed away at the age of 53 on June 12 after suffering a heart attack in UK. The incident occurred while he was playing polo.

In her letter to the board, Rani Kapur had said that she is the sole beneficiary of her late husband Surinder Kapur’s estate, and the majority shareholder of the Sona Group including Sona Comstar. (ANI)

Indian Medical Team Departs After Completing Its Mission In Bangladesh

The Indian Medical Team, consisting of specialists from two top hospitals of India, Ram Manohar Lohia Hospital and Safdarjung Hospital in New Delhi, returned to India on Monday evening after completing its mission in Bangladesh, the Indian High Commission in Dhaka said in a statement.

The four-member team came to Bangladesh on 23 July 2025, in pursuance of the assurance of support and assistance extended by the Prime Minister of India, Narendra Modi, in the wake of the devastating air crash at the Milestone School and College in Dhaka on 21 July 2025.

During its stay in Dhaka, the Indian Medical Team worked alongside their Bangladeshi counterparts at the National Institute of Burn & Plastic Surgery (NIBPS), offering specialised medical advice to support the treatment and recovery of the victims of the Milestone tragedy.

“The Indian team expressed satisfaction with the treatment protocol being followed at NIBPS and exchanged expert opinions in dealing with the most critical cases,” the statement said.

“India remains ready to promptly extend any further support required by Bangladesh with regard to critical medical care and rehabilitation of those injured in the tragic incident, including any need for further advanced treatment in India,” it added.

“The visit of the Indian medical team in the wake of this national tragedy in Bangladesh is a reflection of the deep-rooted nature of people-to-people relations and the enduring bonds of empathy that connect our two countries,” the statement said.

Reflecting this commitment, the Indian High Commission in Dhaka noted on July 25 that the visiting Indian medical team had provided critical inputs for the treatment methodology of patients injured in the fighter jet crash in Bangladesh.

“The Indian Medical Team currently visiting Bangladesh continued their mission to provide medical support to Bangladesh authorities for treatment of critically injured patients in the aftermath of the plane crash of July 21 at Milestone School and College in Dhaka”, said the statement posted on the Facebook page of the Indian High Commission, Dhaka.

“Today, the team held the second round of consultations with doctors at the National Institute of Burn and Plastic Surgery in Dhaka, visited some of the patients and observed their prognosis,” it added.

“The team further deliberated management protocols with the doctors at the Institute and provided critical inputs for treatment methodology,” the statement said.

A medical team on Wednesday evening arrived in Dhaka to support burn victims of the recent fighter jet crash in the Diabari area of Bangladesh’s capital.

According to the Bangladesh Chief Adviser’s Press Wing, the death toll in the crash incident has risen to 33 and 50 people were injured, mostly students, who were admitted to various hospitals in the capital, Dhaka. Injured others were teachers, school staff, firefighters, police, army, maids, electricians, and others.

The death toll may rise again, as among the injured, 25 patients have serious conditions with burn injury, a doctor said.

On July 21, Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed condolences at the loss of lives in the tragic air crash in Dhaka and had conveyed assurances of support and assistance.

A Bangladesh Air Force F-7 fighter jet crashed into the Milestone School and College campus in Dhaka on Monday afternoon.

The jet was being piloted by Bangladeshi Air Force Flight Lieutenant Mohammad Towkir Islam Sagor, who had also died in the crash. (ANI)

UN Must Hold Terror Sponsors Accountable: Jaishankar

External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar and Union Home Minister Amit Shah addressed the Lok Sabha during a discussion on Operation Sindoor, outlining India’s diplomatic efforts and taking sharp aim at the Opposition.

Speaking on India’s approach in the aftermath of the attack, Jaishankar said the focus of Indian diplomacy was the United Nations Security Council.

“The focus for our diplomacy was the UN Security Council. The challenge for us was that at this particular point, Pakistan is a member of the Security Council and we (India) are not (at that time)…” he said.

Jaishankar highlighted India’s key objectives at the UN body.

India aimed to secure the Council’s endorsement for holding Pakistan accountable for cross-border terrorism. and to bring to justice those who perpetrated this attack. He expressed hope that the House acknowledges the efforts made in this regard.

“Our goals in the Security Council were two: 1- to get an endorsement from the Security Council of the need for accountability, and 2- to bring to justice those who perpetrated this attack,” Jaishankar said.

He noted the April 25 statement issued by the Security Council and said India’s goals were met.

“I am glad to say that if you look at the Security Council statement of 25th April, the members of the Security Council condemned in the strongest terms the terrorist attack. They affirmed that terrorism in all its forms and manifestations constitutes one of the most serious threats to international peace and security,” Jaishankar said.

He further added that the statement marked an important step in holding those responsible accountable.

“And most importantly, the Council underlined the need to hold the perpetrators, organisers, financers and sponsors of this reprehensible act of terrorism accountable and bring them to justice…”

During the same discussion, Union Home Minister Amit Shah strongly criticised the Opposition for undermining India’s own leadership.

“…I have an objection that they (Opposition) don’t have faith in an Indian Foreign Minister but they have faith in some other country. I can understand the importance of foreign in their party. But this doesn’t mean that all the things of their party should be imposed here in the House,” Shah said.

Taking a direct political jab, he said the Opposition’s approach was the reason they continued to sit on the other side of the aisle.

“This is the reason why they are sitting there (opposition benches), and will remain sitting there for the next 20 years…” (ANI)
