Cong Raises Galwan, Pak Support In Modi-Xi Talks

Amidst bilateral talks between Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Chinese President Xi Jinping in Tianjin, the Congress has lashed out at the Centre, seeking to know whether the “new normal” is to be defined by Chinese aggression and bullying and by the “Government’s spinelessness?”

Congress spokesperson Jairam Ramesh took to X to post, whether the “new normal” was now to be defined by Chinese aggression and bullying and our Government’s spinelessness?”

The Congress leader said that the meeting of Prime Minister Modi with Xi Jinping must be evaluated in the context of the June 2020 Chinese aggression in the Galway Valley, which he said “cost 20 of our bravest of brave jawans to sacrifice their lives.”

“Yet, rather than identify the Chinese aggression, on June 19, 2020, Prime Minister Modi gave an (infamous) clean chit to China. The Army Chief has demanded a full restoration of the status quo on the border with China in Ladakh. Despite failing to achieve that, the Modi Government has pushed forward on reconciliation with China, de facto legitimising their territorial aggression,” the Congress leader said.

“On July 4, 2025, the Deputy Chief of Army Staff, Lt. Gen Rahul Singh, spoke forcefully and candidly on China’s jugalbandi with Pakistan during Operation Sindoor. Rather than respond to this unholy alliance, the Modi Government has quietly accepted it as fait accompli and is now rewarding China with state visits,” Ramesh said.

The Congress leader Jairam Ramesh in his X post further said that “China has announced a gigantic hydel project on the Yarlung Tsangpo that has very grave implications for our Northeast. The Modi Government has not spoken a word on this issue. Uncontrolled ‘dumping’ of imports from China continues to devastate our MSMEs. Unlike other countries, we have largely let the Chinese importers have free rein.”

Further the Indian National Congress took to X list out actions taken by China against India, which included killing 20 soldiers in the Galwan Valley, openly supporting Pakistan during Operation Sindoor and providing live updates to Pakistan.

“In response to these nefarious actions by China, Narendra Modi took strict measures. He shook hands with the Chinese President with a smile,” the post in Hindi by the INC read.

Earlier in the day, the PM, during his bilateral talks with the Chinese President Xi Jinping, emphasised that the commitment to taking the India-China ties forward was based on “mutual trust, respect and sensitivity.”

He appreciated the progress made on several fronts of ties and peace on the border post disengagements. He also spoke about the beginning of the Kailash Mansoravar Yatra and touched upon the beginning of direct flight connectivity between the two countries. He said that an agreement has been reached on border management between the two countries.

“Last year in Kazan, we had very fruitful discussions, which gave a positive direction to our relations. After the disengagement on the border, an atmosphere of peace and stability has been created,” PM Modi said.

“An agreement has been reached between our Special Representatives regarding border management. Kailash Mansarovar Yatra has been resumed. Direct flights between the two countries are also being resumed. The interests of 2.8 billion people of both countries are linked to our cooperation. This will also pave the way for the welfare of humanity as a whole. We are committed to taking our relations forward on the basis of mutual trust, respect and sensitivity,” the Prime Minister Modi said.

He thanked the Chinese President for the warm welcome and congratulated China for successfully chairing the SCO. “I congratulate you on China’s successful chairmanship of the SCO. I thank you for the invitation to visit China and for our meeting today”.

The Prime Minister Modi arrived on Saturday evening in the city, his first visit to China in more than seven years. (ANI)

Bollywood diva Tara Sutaria appears to have made it Instagram official with her rumoured boyfriend, Veer Pahariya.

The actress took to her social media handle and shared Ganesh Chaturthi greetings on Saturday; however, it was one special picture that got all the attention.

Tara shared a string of pictures of herself dressed in a traditional ensemble, pairing them with one that featured the ‘Sky Force’ actor.

In the picture, the two could be seen posing together for the camera, exuding an adorable charm and chemistry. “Devotion, faith and celebration..Ganpati Bappa Morya,” Tara wrote in the caption.

Reports have been circulating on the internet about her dating Veer Pahariya for some time now.

Tara and Veer made a joint appearance at the India Couture Week 2025, where the ‘Marjaavan’ star surprised everyone by sending a flying kiss to Veer Pahariya, who was seen sitting in the audience.

“That’s very, very sweet, and it’s so nice to see and read about it online. I’m sorry, I won’t be able to talk about that at the moment,” Tara told ANI at the time.

Gordon Ramsay Undergoes Skin Cancer Surgery, Urges Sunscreen Use

Celebrity chef Gordon Ramsay has revealed undergoing treatment for skin cancer.

On Saturday, the 58-year-old shared pictures of a stitched-up area, right below his ear, on Instagram, further cautioning his fans about the importance of using sunscreen.

“Grateful and so appreciative for the incredible team at The Skin Associates and their fast reactive work on removing this Basal Cell Carcinoma, thank you! Please don’t forget your sunscreen this weekend, I promise you it’s not a facelift! I’d need a refund,” Ramsay wrote on Instagram.

According to the National Institutes of Health, Basal cell carcinoma is the most common cutaneous malignancy, the most common cancer in humans. “BCC mostly arises on sun-damaged skin and rarely develops on the mucous membranes or palms and soles. Basal cell carcinoma is usually a slow-growing tumour for which metastases are rare,” it states.

As soon as Ramsay shared the update, his followers quickly led the way in sharing messages of support. TV judge Robert Rinder also reacted to the post with a heart emoji.

His daughter, Holly Ramsay, added, “Love you, Dad.”

Cancer Research UK commented on the post and wrote, “Glad to hear you’re doing well, Gordon, and thanks for raising awareness of how important it is to stay safe in the sun. Seek shade, cover up, and apply sunscreen regularly and generously.”

A section of users also applauded the chef for raising awareness about sunscreen.

The health update came more than a year after Ramsay was hospitalised due to a bike accident. In a June 2024 post, the MasterChef star revealed, “I’m doing ok and did not break any bones or suffer any major injuries, but I am a bit bruised up looking like a purple potato.”

Last December, he shared an update that his bruising had healed, along with a montage video featuring his injuries from the accident. (ANI)

Made-in-India Drones Will Be Undetectable By US, Chinese Systems: Rajnath

Defence Minister Rajnath Singh praised the young workforce at Raphe mPhibr Pvt. Ltd in Noida on Saturday, highlighting their role in advancing India’s defence sector. He assured that drones manufactured at the facility would be undetectable by any systems developed by the US or China. Make ther News lead into one single line can be long

Rajnath Singh, along with Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, inaugurated the defence equipment and drone manufacturing unit at the facility on Sunday.

Speaking at the event, the Defence Minister said, “The youth here are playing a pivotal role in the creation of an Atmanirbhar Bharat. Drones made in India will not be detectable by any systems developed in the US or China. The country’s innovation and indigenous designs are advancing to new heights. This plant, which began with just 10 people in 2017, now employs over 600 scientists and engineers, making it one of India’s most innovative aircraft manufacturing companies. Over 5,000 jobs will be created here.”

Rajnath Singh also commended the Noida unit for developing India’s largest Aero engine test bed, which has been dedicated to national service. He noted that Noida is playing a crucial role in housing significant innovations, from start-ups to high-tech manufacturing units.

He said, “I had the opportunity to visit a plant here and observed state-of-the-art facilities, such as the engine test bed, metal additive manufacturing capabilities, furnaces that can reach 2800 degrees Celsius, an advanced composite polymer manufacturing centre, and precision-guided missile drones. These highly advanced and reliable technologies will significantly enhance India’s defence capabilities.”

The Minister reflected on the progress made in Uttar Pradesh, noting the state’s improved Ease of Doing Business environment, which was once hindered by a poor law and order situation.

Rajnath Singh further mentioned the growing global reliance on drones in defence, citing their use in the Russia-Ukraine conflict. “Drones are now being used in places where large equipment cannot reach. Initially used for surveillance, drones have evolved into tools for combat in border conflicts,” he explained.

He added, “Countries that have invested in drone technology have gained a significant lead in this field. On the other hand, many countries have been left behind in this race. But today, the reality of the world of defence rests solely on aircraft technology and drones. It is a matter of great joy for all of us that India is also moving rapidly forward in this direction. Earlier, we had to import drones from outside, but today we are designing, developing, and manufacturing them ourselves. In this progress of ours, many entrepreneurs have made a very important contribution.” (ANI)

NYT Links Modi’s Denial Of US Mediation On Pak Ceasefire To Trump Tariff

Weeks after the June phone call in which Prime Minister Narendra Modi clearly conveyed to US President Donald Trump that at no point during Operation Sindoor was there any discussion, on an India-U.S. Trade Deal, or any proposal for a mediation by the U.S. between India and Pakistan, Trump startled India by announcing that imports from the country would be subjected to a tariff of 25 percent, New York Times said in a report on Saturday and noted that he slapped India with an additional 25 percent tariff for buying Russian oil, adding up to a crushing 50 percent.

The report said that PM Modi told President Trump that the US involvement had nothing to do with the ceasefire and this had been settled directly between India and Pakistan.

It said President Trump contends that he used trade as leverage to get the two sides to stop fighting and India has denied that.

The New York Times report said that President Trump, frustrated by the tariff negotiations, reached out to PM Modi several times, according to two people briefed on the discussions who spoke on condition of anonymity because they were not authorized to discuss them publicly.

The report, citing the two people, said that PM Modi did not respond to those requests.

It also said that White House spokeswoman Anna Kelly denied that President Trump had reached out.

President Trump imposed 25 per cent tariff on India in July and later imposed 25 per cent secondary tariff which came into effect on August 27.

The NYT report said that PM Modi and Trump spoke in June during a 35-minute call while Trump was flying back on Air Force One from a G7 summit in Canada.

India has termed the US decision on tariffs as “extremely unfortunate”

“The United States has in recent days targeted India’s oil imports from Russia. 2. We have already made clear our position on these issues, including the fact that our imports are based on market factors and done with the overall objective of ensuring the energy security of 1.4 billion people of India. 3. It is therefore extremely unfortunate that the US should choose to impose additional tariffs on India for actions that several other countries are also taking in their own national interest,” MEA spokesperson said in a statement.

“We reiterate that these actions are unfair, unjustified and unreasonable. India will take all actions necessary to protect its national interests,” it added.

In his statement on June 18 on the telephone conversation between PM Modi and US President, Foreign Secretary Vikarm Misri said that Prime Minister Modi “clearly conveyed to President Trump that at no point during this entire sequence of events was there any discussion, at any level, on an India-U.S. Trade Deal, or any proposal for a mediation by the U.S. between India and Pakistan”.

“The discussion to cease military action took place directly between India and Pakistan through the existing channels of communication between the two armed forces, and it was initiated at Pakistan’s request. Prime Minister Modi firmly stated that India does not and will never accept mediation. There is complete political consensus in India on this matter,” he said

“President Trump listened carefully to the points conveyed by the Prime Minister and expressed his support towards India’s fight against terrorism. Prime Minister Modi also stated that India no longer views terrorism as a proxy war, but as a war itself, and that India’s Operation Sindoor is still ongoing. President Trump enquired if Prime Minister Modi could stop over in the U.S. on his way back from Canada. Due to prior commitments, Prime Minister Modi expressed his inability to do so. Both leaders agreed to make efforts to meet in the near future,” it added.

Misri said President Trump and Prime Minister Modi also discussed the ongoing conflict between Israel and Iran. Both leaders agreed that for peace in the Russia – Ukraine conflict, direct dialogue between the two parties is essential, and continued efforts should be made to facilitate this. (ANI)

Modi, Zelenskyy Discuss Peace Efforts, Russia-Ukraine Conflict Ahead Of SCO Summit

Prime Minister Narendra Modi had a telephone conversation on Saturday (local time) with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy ahead of the SCO summit, where they discussed the ongoing Russia-Ukraine conflict and expressed India’s full support for efforts to restore peace and stability.

“Thank you, President Zelenskyy, for his phone call today. We exchanged views on the ongoing conflict, its humanitarian aspects, and efforts to restore peace and stability. India extends full support to all efforts in this direction,” PM Modi wrote on X.

In his statement, President Zelenskyy shared details of the conversation, which also covered talks with President Trump and Ukraine’s ongoing efforts to engage in peace discussions with Russia. He reaffirmed Ukraine’s readiness to meet with Russia’s head, despite Russia’s continued attacks on civilian targets.

“I spoke with Prime Minister of India @NarendraModi. I informed him about the talks with President Trump in Washington, with the participation of European leaders. It was a productive and important conversation, a shared vision among partners on how to achieve real peace. Ukraine reaffirmed its readiness for a meeting with the head of Russia,” Zelenskyy said.

Zelenskyy also highlighted the ongoing strikes by Russia, stressing that Moscow has shown no willingness to engage in diplomacy, continuing its attacks on civilians. “Almost two weeks have passed, and during this time, when Russia should have been preparing for diplomacy, Moscow has given no positive signal – only carried out cynical strikes on civilian targets and killed dozens of our people,” he said.

Zelenskyy thanked PM Modi for his words of condolence to the victims of the attacks and praised India’s stance on peace, especially ahead of the SCO Summit. “We coordinated our positions ahead of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation summit. The end of this war must begin with an immediate ceasefire, with the necessary silence. This position is understood and supported by everyone. It is impossible to speak meaningfully about peace while our cities and communities are under constant fire,” he added.

The Ukrainian President further noted, “India is ready to make the necessary efforts and to deliver the appropriate signal to Russia and other leaders during the meetings on the sidelines of the summit. Thank you.”

The two leaders also discussed bilateral relations between India and Ukraine, including preparations for upcoming visits and the establishment of a Joint Intergovernmental Commission meeting. Zelenskyy expressed optimism for future cooperation, saying, “We also discussed our bilateral relations, preparations for the exchange of visits, and the holding of a meeting of the Joint Intergovernmental Commission. There is potential we can realise. I will be glad to meet the Prime Minister in the near future.”

This was the second time in the month that PM Modi and President Zelenskyy have engaged in a telephone conversation.

PM Modi is scheduled to participate in the 2025 SCO Summit on Sunday, August 31, where he will hold bilateral talks with Chinese President Xi Jinping. He is also expected to meet Russian President Vladimir Putin during the summit.

The SCO summit holds great significance for India, especially after the imposition of the US’s 50 per cent tariffs, including a 25 per cent tariff on India’s purchase of Russian crude oil. Alongside the host, Chinese President Xi Jinping, Russian President Vladimir Putin will also attend.

Earlier in August 11, PM Modi had his first conversation of the month with President Zelenskyy. The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) issued a statement confirming the conversation, stating, “Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi had a telephone conversation today with the President of Ukraine, H.E. Mr Volodymyr Zelenskyy. President Zelenskyy shared his views on the recent developments related to Ukraine. Prime Minister thanked President Zelenskyy and reaffirmed India’s steadfast and consistent position for a peaceful settlement of the conflict and support for efforts aimed at the earliest restoration of peace. PM reiterated India’s commitment to extend all possible support in this regard. The leaders also reviewed progress in the India-Ukraine bilateral partnership and discussed ways to further enhance cooperation in areas of mutual interest. They agreed to remain in touch.” (ANI)

KCL: Salman Nizar Creates Mayhem By Smashing 11 Sixes In 13 Balls

Salman Nizar delivered a power-hitting spectacle for Calicut Globstars against Adani Trivandrum Royals in the Kerala Cricket League, after hammering 11 sixes in the last 13 deliveries, leaving the opposition shellshocked and spectators thrilled on Saturday.

It was pure mayhem in the KCL as Nizar inflicted pure carnage at the Greenfield International Stadium after embarking on a six-hitting spree in the first innings. His relentless onslaught began in the penultimate over after he offered no clemency to Basil Thampi and thumped five sixes on the trot to garner 31 runs.

Hitting six sixes is still a rare feat in the T20s, but Nazri made it look like a walk in the park. In the final over, he became a walking nightmare for Abhijith Praveen by walloping six towering maximums to reap 40 runs, aided by a wide and a double on a no-ball.

He returned unbeaten on 86(26) after powering Calicut to a daunting 186/6 total. After the dust settled, the Royals came out to bat to gun down the 187-run target. They lost opener Vishnu Raj early in the chase, but managed to finish the powerplay with 45/1 on the board.

Riya Basheer, who was the aggressor for Trivandrum Royals, perished after holing it out to Akhil Dev off Harikrishnan. The floodgates opened, and the Royals were reduced to 56/1 to 80/4 at the end of the 12th over.

Sanjeev Satheresan tried to help the Royals find a second wind by churning out 23 runs off Akhil Dev in the 13th over, bringing the equation down to 83 runs required in the last seven overs. He continued with his exploits as wickets kept tumbling at the other end.

Eventually, his fight concluded with a score of 34(23) as Trivandrum Royals succumbed to a 13-run defeat after folding on 173 with three balls still left to play. (ANI)

Mandaviya Pitches For ‘Garv Se Swadeshi’ At First-Ever Sports Goods Manufacturing Conclave

India reaffirmed its commitment to building an Atmanirbhar Bharat in the sports sector as Union Minister of Youth Affairs and Sports Mansukh Mandaviya, chaired the first-ever Sports Goods Manufacturing Conclave held in New Delhi on Saturday, a statement from the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports said.

Organised by the Ministry, the conclave brought together representatives from NITI Aayog, Commerce Ministry, DPIIT, FICCI, CII, MSMEs and leading sports industry stakeholders to chart a new roadmap for India’s sports goods manufacturing capabilities.

The Union Minister underlined that for the first time, “Sports Goods Manufacturing” has been formally included in the Allocation of Business Rules, 1961, under the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports through a Gazette Notification issued earlier this week. This marks a historic milestone in giving sports manufacturing the same policy status as other national industries.

Addressing the gathering, Mandaviya underscored the government’s vision of aligning sports goods manufacturing with the national growth agenda. “In India, the sports ecosystem is growing at speed. We have the potential to go big, and we are not dependent on anyone. Sports goods manufacturing is a priority sector for us, and we have to implement this steadily. I am very pleased with it being included in the Allocation of Business Rules. Hence, we did this important conclave,” he said.

Reaffirming the Atmanirbhar Bharat agenda, the Minister said, as quoted from a press release by the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports, “Everyone has to make sure that we implement everything keeping in mind’ Nation first’. Aatmanirbharta and the use of Swadeshi goods are the need of the hour. We must move forward with the spirit of Garv se Swadeshi. From a one per cent global share now, we have to take it to 25 per cent by 2036. Economic growth happens when there is demand, and it increases with manufacturing, which also results in employment generation.”

Mandaviya also highlighted India’s demographic advantage, saying, “India grows on its own model. With 1.4 billion people, we already have the largest market. We must walk the path of our roadmap. We will now decide the policy framework based on the inputs from this conclave. All stakeholders will be brought together, and unanimously we will decide the policy framework on sports goods manufacturing. A task force will be formed with representatives of the Ministry, NSFs and industry stakeholders to craft a forward-looking policy and unlock the sector’s vast untapped potential.”

The conclave saw extensive deliberations and presentations from industry leaders on the sports goods manufacturing industry, India’s strengths, and strategy for making it a global hub, as well as challenges and solutions in the sector. Mandaviya also noted that the conclave was not just about manufacturing sports goods, but about creating a complete ecosystem that combines industry, innovation, and employment. The overall aim was to strengthen India’s march towards becoming a global sporting and economic powerhouse.

The Indian sports goods sector is valued at USD 4.88 billion (Rs 42,877 crore) in 2024 and is projected to grow to USD 6.6 billion (Rs 57,800 crore) by 2027 and Rs 87,300 crore by 2034. The sector provides employment to over five lakh people, primarily in MSME clusters at Meerut, Jalandhar, Ludhiana and Delhi-NCR. India is the third-largest sports goods manufacturer in Asia and the 21st-largest exporter globally, with exports worth USD 523 million in 2023-24 to more than 90 countries. Major export destinations include the USA, UK, Australia, Germany, and France, with opportunities expanding in South Africa, the UAE, Canada, and Sweden. (ANI)

Zeishan Picks Piyush As ‘Bigg Boss’ Winner If ‘Wasseypur’ Characters Entered House

Who would win Bigg Boss if the fiery characters of ‘Gangs of Wasseypur’ ever stepped into the house? Actor-writer Zeishan Quadri, who played ‘Definite’ in Anurag Kashyap’s cult film, has an answer.

Zeishan, who is currently a contestant on ‘Bigg Boss 19,’ shared his thoughts in a chat with ANI before entering the house.

When asked which Wasseypur character could win the reality show, he instantly named veteran actor Piyush Mishra, who played Nasir Ahmed in the two-part drama.

Laughing as he explained, Zeishan said, “Piyush Mishra. If Sir stays in the house, it will be full of fun. He is such a lively person. Please call him next time, or as a wildcard this season.”

For Zeishan, the film remains close to his heart even 13 years after its release. He said the love of fans keeps those memories alive.

“After putting in so much hard work, what stays is only the love of fans. The characters I lived on screen, it feels so good to see people still love them. I even watch the memes fans make. Whenever I see them, I feel nostalgic. I remember how it all started, what we did. It has been 13-14 years since the shoot, and 13 years since the release, but the memories are still so fresh,” he shared.

‘Gangs of Wasseypur’ was released in two parts: the first on June 22, 2012, and the second on August 8, 2012. The story spanned nearly seven decades, from 1941 to 2009, focusing on coal mafias, crime families, and the relentless struggles for power in Dhanbad.

Besides winning hearts and earning critical praise, both parts of the film turned into box office successes. Today, ‘Gangs of Wasseypur’ continues to enjoy a huge fan base, with many calling it one of the best Indian films ever made.

Viewers can watch Quadri compete inside the ‘Bigg Boss 19’ house on Colors and JioHotsar. (ANI)
