Trailer of Urvashi Rautela starrer 'Ghuspaithiya'

Urvashi Rautela Appears Before ED In Betting App Case

Actor Urvashi Rautela appeared before the Enforcement Directorate (ED) at its headquarters in Delhi on Tuesday for questioning related to the ongoing investigation into the illegal betting app 1xBet.

The ED is probing alleged money laundering and celebrity endorsements linked to the platform, which has come under scrutiny for violating India’s gaming and financial laws.

As part of the investigation, the ED had summoned former Indian cricketers Yuvraj Singh and Robin Uthappa, as well as Bollywood actor Sonu Sood, for questioning.

Uthappa had been summoned on September 22, while Singh had been called on September 23, and Sood on September 24. All three had been directed to appear at ED headquarters in New Delhi.

ED is examining possible financial links and promotional activities associated with the platform named 1xBet, which has been under the scanner of multiple agencies for alleged violations of the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA) and other laws.

The agency suspects that certain celebrities may have indirectly promoted or endorsed the app, which is banned in India, thereby giving it legitimacy among users. The case involves the platform operating in India, suspected of alleged money laundering, tax evasion, and rigging its algorithms.

The case has been under investigation for the past several years, with authorities alleging that the platform was operating illegally in India through surrogate websites and offshore entities. The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) had earlier registered a case against the operators of the app for targeting Indian users, after which the ED initiated its own money laundering probe.

This is not the first time celebrities have come under the scanner in relation to betting and gaming apps. In the past, the ED had questioned actors, cricketers and influencers for their involvement in the promotion of offshore betting and gambling platforms that are not permitted under Indian law.

The broader investigation targets various celebrities and influencers who may have promoted these platforms, which are suspected of tax evasion and duping investors, and has also drawn in other prominent figures, including actors and cricketers.

Earlier, the ED had also questioned former cricketers Shikhar Dhawan and Suresh Raina. This investigation is one of several probing into illegal betting platforms. Last month, ED had also conducted multi-state searches in connection with a similar investigation against an online betting app. (ANI)

‘Are We Raising Kids In Reel Culture Where Likes Matter More Than Laughter?’

Vini Soni, a mother of two young children, reflects on parenting and the impact of social media on family life. Her views

As a mother of two — a seven-year-old brimming with curiosity and a three-year-old who copies his every move — I often wonder how childhood is changing in the age of reels. What used to be about scraped knees, bedtime stories, and silly giggles now seems increasingly about angles, retakes, and trending sounds! Childhood is being staged for strangers.

Just look at the popular reels flooding our feeds. A toddler recently went viral for staring wide-eyed at Tamannaah Bhatia’s dance to Aaj ki raat, clocking more than 1.2 million views. A young girl in Assam charmed the internet by cycling while singing Kishore Kumar’s My name is Anthony Gonsalves. Another reel showed a Russian girl in Bengaluru singing a Kannada poem with her Indian friend — a sweet cultural snapshot that spread quickly. These examples feel harmless, even heart-warming.

But then there are the worrying ones: children in Uttar Pradesh filmed a 15-foot python being carried for three kilometers — an act that grabbed eyeballs but raised obvious questions about safety. A father-daughter duo recreating a Bollywood scene may look cute, but behind-the-scenes, how many retakes, prompts, and pressures are children put through just to nail a reel?

ALSO READ: Reel Culture Has Spread Like A Deadly Virus

A reel lasts 15 seconds; its impact on a child’s sense of self can last far longer. And the influence doesn’t stop at the screen. Recently, my elder son came home asking, “What is a trending reel? Why don’t I do one like my friends?” He doesn’t even have a social media account, yet the culture around him already tells him what’s “cool.” That was a wake-up call for me: Are we raising children to play, explore, and imagine — or to perform for an invisible audience?

The risks are twofold: Physical, when kids are coaxed into unsafe stunts or challenges and; Emotional, when they start measuring fun or self-worth through likes, shares, and comments.

So, what can we do differently? First, pause before hitting record. Ask: Is this safe, respectful, and in my child’s best interest? Second, seek consent — even from young children. If my son says “no” to sharing, I respect it. Third, remember: reels fade in days, but the lessons we model — about dignity, privacy, and confidence — last a lifetime.

I’m not against capturing memories. I treasure my children’s goofy dances and sibling hugs. But not every moment needs to be broadcast. Some moments are more special when they remain ours alone.

Three questions that parents should ask before posting a reel: 1) Is it safe or am I exposing my child to physical risks or unsafe stunts just for views? 2) Is it respectful and would my child feel proud — or embarrassed — to see this video when they are older? 3) Is it necessary as in do I really need to share this with the world, or is this a moment best kept within our family?

As parents, the real question is: are we nurturing confident children or performers chasing likes? Perhaps the best “trend” we can start is letting kids enjoy an unfiltered, reel-free childhood.

Trump: The Nightmare on Film Street

All pretence of friendship with India and its “great guy” prime minister is, to use a popular Bollywood term, benaqab, Hindustani for torn apart, as the leader of the most powerful nation strikes at the world’s largest filmmaker.

Mr Donald Trump has struck again, at India, yet not singling it out, and hurting it the most. There are no surprises, given his showbiz background and in any case, he had talked about it in May.

A massive 100% tariff — import duty or tax — on movies made “outside the US” comes as another major blow to India, which has been facing his wrath, with blips of bonhomie, for the past three months and more.

The Indian diaspora in the US spends around $100 million a year to watch Telugu, Hindi, Tamil, Malayalam, Punjabi, Bengali and other Indian language movies, according to the Producers Guild of India.

In his zeal to punish India, Trump has hit the space and beyond, as it is unclear how such a tariff on movies, which are software, would be implemented, given that modern film-making is mostly digital and done across countries, with much of the production work being online.

Shah Rukh Khan and Deepika Padukone’s Jawan, Prabhas-starrer Baahubali series, and Ranbir Kapoor-Tripti Dimri’s Animal are among the movies that did significant business in the US recently. Recent Indian movies that earned major revenues in the US, as per IMDb include Baahubali 2 at $22 million, followed by Kalki 2898AD, Pathaan, RRR, Pushpa 2, Jawan, and Animal, all grossing $15-19 million each.

But one impact could be on ticket prices if producers pass on the tax burden to consumers. The viewership is not confined to 5.4 million Indians alone. Traditionally, other South Asians also view Indian language movies, such as Pakistanis for Punjabi and Hindi, Bangladeshi for Bengali, or Lankan Tamils, besides locals who enjoy diverse films.

After what is widely seen as a personal pique at India not endorsing him for the Nobel Prize for Peace, it is tempting to say that Mr Trump is “jealous, simply jealous” to imitate Indian megastar Amitabh Bachchan in Cheeni Kum. Mr Trump is jealous because the USA, home to Hollywood, ranks fourth in global film production.

With over 2,500 films made annually, India firmly retains its position as the world’s top film producer. This is not new, but it raises a tempting question: If the global ranking is determined by geopolitics and geo-economics, how about ‘geo-cinematics’?

The ranking would then place India ahead of China, which made 800 films, a third of India’s output, and overtakes Japan’s 676 films. And, the mighty United States is in fourth place with a poor 510. Indeed, it dropped from second place in 2022.

Hollywood, Trump had lamented in May, “is dying”.

To his chagrin, perhaps, multipolarity is at work. Forget India for a moment, for the first time in cinematic history, China has overtaken both Japan and the United States in terms of film production.

The situation is contrasting. The Chinese score thanks to a surge during 2023-24, but despite its economy experiencing a slowdown, footfalls in cinema theatres are down by eight per cent because of the domestic money crunch.

Globally, however, the good news is that people, stressed by climate change, growing economic disparities, and multiple conflicts raging around them, are flocking to cinema halls and multiplexes that offer a few hours’ comfort. The new data shows that global box office revenues are also projected to rise in 2025, surpassing USD 34 billion, driven in part by this production rebound.

Another good news is that global film production has picked up after the COVID-19 pandemic. Closed film studios, a ban on outdoor film shooting and people locked up in their offices are a thing of the forgettable past, hopefully, never to return.

Looking at 2026 and 2027, film release slates appear as robust as they were before the COVID-19 pandemic.

The production is expected to have grown significantly again in 2024, according to figures processed by David Hancock of Omdia, a US-based database, and Claire Rousseau, Jeff Slee and Sacha Wunsch-Vincent of the World Intellectual Property Organisation (WIPO). Readied this month, it is scheduled for release in April next year.

Innovations driven by technological advancements have helped. With China leading the pack, animated films continue to play a key role in box office growth, the data shows. New marketing and release strategies are also emerging with strong potential to boost cinema revenues.

What about Europe, especially France, where it all began, at the end of the 19th century? Spain retains fifth place globally, leading the European pack. The number of French films produced annually has remained consistent, with 231 films in 2024, matching the pre-pandemic average. Total investment in French cinema in 2024 hit €1.44 billion, a record high, driven by both domestic and foreign contributions. The leaders are the United Kingdom, Germany, the United States (as minority co-producer), and Sweden.

In 2024, the UK’s film and high-end TV production sector saw total investment rebound to approximately £5.6 billion, a 31% increase from 2023 but still below the 2022 peak, with films accounting for £2.1 billion. The actual number of films dipped from 207 in 2023 to 191.

But in comparison with what is happening elsewhere, Europe has taken the back seat. While holding its own, a commentary in The Guardian, London, indicates that the continent is basking in its famed international film festivals at Locarno, Venice, Karlovy Vary and Cannes. Yet, Iceland retains the top position in per capita film production, followed by Estonia, Switzerland, Latvia and Croatia.

In Africa, Nigeria remains the leader. Egypt nearly doubled its production of national feature films, adding 19 more films, while Kenya (+77%) and Morocco (+79%) also saw notable increases.

Globally, economic might seems to matter less. Movies are where eyeballs are, mainly in Asia and Latin America. India and China are among the nine middle-income economies represented among the top 20 global film producers. The others are Mexico, Argentina, Brazil, Türkiye, the Philippines, Iran and Indonesia as per films produced in 2023. Mexico continues its strong performance, ranking 8th globally and securing a spot in the top 10 for the third consecutive year.

To return to India, although its film production, in 20 different languages, hovered below 2,000 in the pre-COVID era, it was still the highest. The surge has come with the advent of the OTT (over-the-top) platforms that provide home entertainment, and with fast urbanisation, the growth of multiplex cinema halls.

But India’s film production is not “Breaking News”. Earning-wise, the Indian film industry’s annual revenue is in the range of ₹15,000–18,000 crore (about USD 1.8–2.2 billion) from theatrical box office alone (2023 figures). This is smaller than Hollywood’s USD 11–12 billion and China’s film market (USD 7–8 billion).

The trend of money invested and recovered remains unchanged. A small percentage of films earn the bulk of the revenue. Industry estimates say 10–15% of films are profitable. Another 20–25% recovery costs but partially. The majority (60%+) fail to recover investments.

Big-budget Hindi, Telugu, Tamil, and sometimes Kannada films dominate the box office and streaming rights sales. Hindi films earn 33% of total box office revenue. Telugu+Tamil films: together 45%. These industries often lead in blockbuster hits.

Other languages (Kannada, Malayalam, Marathi, Bengali, Punjabi, etc.): 20%, though a few Malayalam and Kannada films recently punched above their weight. The bright side is that technology enables the release of a film in multiple languages. A multilingual India, with language raising emotional issues in the political and cultural arena, is integrating film watchers.

Domestic Box Office remains the main source of earnings, which is by far limited compared to the huge number of releases. Overseas Box Office: important for Hindi, Telugu, Tamil films (US, Gulf, UK are big markets).

India has a marked presence on Digital Rights or OTT, thanks to a huge domestic market and the diasporas. Revenue is rising sharply—sometimes OTT deals alone cover the production cost of mid-size films. Satellite TV & Music Rights: smaller but steady revenue streams.

If the total Indian box office is Rs ₹12,000–13,000 crore in a given year, that averages ₹5–6 crore per film—but this number is highly misleading since only the top films earn hundreds or thousands of crores, while most earn little or nothing.

In sum, India makes the most films, but only a handful succeed commercially. The industry is high-volume, low-average-revenue, sustained by a few blockbuster hits, strong regional industries, and growing digital rights sales. Call it ‘freedom’ if you must – the old laissez-faire continues.

Over his career, he served as a five-time Member of Parliament and a two-time MLA from Delhi, becoming one of the senior-most BJP figures in the capital.

In the 2004 general election, Malhotra was the only BJP candidate to win a seat in Delhi.

According to the BJP, Malhotra enjoyed an unblemished and clean image throughout his distinguished career. An educationist with a doctorate in Hindi literature, Malhotra was also active in social work and the administration of sports bodies, including chess and archery clubs in Delhi. (ANI)

CDS Gen Chauhan Calls For Preparedness Against Bio-Threats, Radio Contamination

Chief of Defence Staff (CDS) General Anil Chauhan on Tuesday called for preparedness against bio-threats and radio contamination from nuclear weapons for the future.

Addressing the Scientific Session on the 100th Raising Day of the Military Nursing Service (MNS) at the Manekshaw Centre, Delhi Cantt., CDG Gen Chauhan said that bio-threats are likely to increase in the post-COVID pandemic era and called for defence preparedness against them.

He said, “The world has been through a period of intense travels and tribulations during the COVID pandemic. Bio-threats, man-made, accidental or natural, are likely to increase in future.”

“Defence against such threats and treatment of infected persons require different treatment protocols. We must be prepared for this in future,” he added.

Reiterating Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s call for an undeterred India against nuclear threats, the CDS highlighted the need for training against radiological contamination.

“Post Operation Sindoor, our Prime Minister has said that India will not be deterred by nuclear blackmail. While the possibility of the use of nuclear weapons in our context is low, but it would be prudent to take this into our security calculus. Radiological contamination requires different protocols for treatment and must be part of our training,” Gen Chauhan said.

He added, “Preparedness against nuclear threats contributes to a deterrence against its use. I think that’s important.”

Gen Chauhan also lauded the efforts of the Military Nursing Service, which contributed to medical treatment under harsh conditions.

He also said that the nurses should receive emotional and psychological well-being.

Gen Chauhan said, “Military Nursing Service has completed 100 glorious years of selfless service to the nation. Whether in the frontline of conflicts, makeshift hospitals, aboard ships on seas or humanitarian missions, your dedication has brought comfort to the wounded, solace to the distressed and hope to the hopeless.”

“I firmly believe nurses are the heartbeat of healthcare, giving more than just care. They offer hope, comfort, and compassion when they are needed the most. We must also focus on those who heal, also need healing. Heartening to see that the scientific session is not only on critical expertise but also the emotional and psychological well-being of caregivers,” he said.

Calling for a “jointness” among the Indian Armed Forces, he noted that MNS is the only service that promotes jointness.

“MNS is the only service that has organised to promote jointness. Nursing staff can be seamlessly transferred from an army establishment to the navy or the air force. We need to work towards jointness among the three services,” he said.

The Military Nursing Service was established in 1926. Since then, it has grown into a robust and indispensable part of the Indian Armed Forces. (ANI)

Eight Nations Back Trump’s Gaza Peace Plan

Eight Arab and Muslim nations on Tuesday issued a joint statement welcoming US President Donald Trump’s proposals to end the Gaza conflict and prevent the displacement of Palestinians.

The foreign ministers of Qatar, Jordan, the United Arab Emirates, Indonesia, Pakistan, Turkey, Saudi Arabia, and Egypt expressed confidence in US President Trump’s “leadership and sincere efforts” to find a path to peace in the region.

The ministers welcomed the US president’s announcement of a comprehensive plan to end the conflict, rebuild Gaza, and advance peace in the Middle East. They also praised his commitment to block any Israeli annexation of the West Bank.

In their statement, the ministers affirmed their “readiness to engage positively and constructively” with the United States and other parties to finalise and implement the agreement.

They emphasised the importance of their partnership with Washington in securing regional peace and stability.

The eight nations outlined their vision for a comprehensive deal, which includes: Unrestricted delivery of humanitarian aid to Gaza, Prevention of Palestinian displacement, Release of hostages, Security guarantees for all parties, Full Israeli withdrawal from Gaza, Reconstruction of the Gaza Strip and Integration of Gaza with the West Bank

The ministers stressed that any lasting solution must be based on a two-state framework, in which Gaza is “fully integrated with the West Bank in a Palestinian state in accordance with international law.”

They described this approach as essential to achieving long-term regional stability and security.

Earlier, White House on Monday (local time) released a peace plan to end the two-year-old Gaza conflict following a meeting between US President Donald Trump and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.

The peace plan included that Gaza will be a deradicalised, terror-free zone that does not pose a threat to its neighbours and will be redeveloped for the benefit of the people of Gaza, who have suffered more than enough.

The peace plan stated that If both sides agree to this proposal, the war will immediately end. Israeli forces will withdraw to the agreed upon line to prepare for a hostage release. During this time, all military operations, including aerial and artillery bombardment, will be suspended, and battle lines will remain frozen until conditions are met for the complete staged withdrawal.

The peace plans further stated that within 72 hours of Israel publicly accepting this agreement, all hostages, alive and deceased, will be returned.

Once all hostages are released, Israel will release 250 life sentence prisoners plus 1700 Gazans who were detained after October 7th 2023, including all women and children detained in that context. For every Israeli hostage whose remains are released, Israel will release the remains of 15 deceased Gazans.

The point plan states that once all hostages are returned, Hamas members who commit to peaceful co-existence and to decommission their weapons will be given amnesty. Members of Hamas who wish to leave Gaza will be provided safe passage to receiving countries.

Upon acceptance of this agreement, full aid will be immediately sent into the Gaza Strip. At a minimum, aid quantities will be consistent with what was included in the January 19, 2025, agreement regarding humanitarian aid, including rehabilitation of infrastructure (water, electricity, sewage), rehabilitation of hospitals and bakeries, and entry of necessary equipment to remove rubble and open roads. UP: Heavy Police Deployment In Bareilly After Violent Protest Over ‘I Love Muhammad’ Row

Heavy police deployment continued in Bareilly city, Uttar Pradesh, on Tuesday. The city has remained tense since a protest over “I Love Muhammad” posters row turned violent on September 26.

Meanwhile, Bareilly Police made 56 arrests, including Nadeem Khan, a key conspirator in the Bareilly violence case. Bareilly SSP Anurag Arya, who led the crackdown, confirmed that Nadeem was apprehended by the police for his involvement in inciting violence.

According to the police, the protesters gathered outside Ala Hazrat Dargah & IMC chief Maulana Tauqeer Raza Khan’s house, holding ‘I Love Mohammad’ placards after the Friday prayers. They pelted stones and clashed with the police during the protests. The confrontation resulted in injuries and significant damage to public property, said the police.

According to the police, the protesters were incited by provocative messages on WhatsApp.

Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Sunday strongly criticised the miscreants involved in the recent violence in Bareilly, and warned them of police action.

Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Sunday strongly criticised the miscreants involved in the violence in Bareilly, and warned them of police action.

Addressing a public meeting in Balrampur, CM Yogi cited the lathi-charge in Bareilly and said that the miscreants would be dealt with in a similar manner.

He said, “A few individuals should not be allowed to spoil the environment. These are the same people who brought an identity crisis to Uttar Pradesh along with the corrupt governments. There were no investments or developments in the State due to these people.”

“Now they are adopting new tactics. But they must remember that we are more prepared than they think. They will be beaten just as they were beaten in Bareilly,” the Chief Minister added.

Condemning the “I love Muhammad” posters, CM Yogi said that the “fools” are ruining the lives of the children.

“These fools don’t even know that symbols of faith are honoured, not loved. Faith isn’t something to be displayed at crossroads; it’s a matter of conscience. Some people are creating chaos in society by giving small children posters of ‘I Love Muhammad’. They don’t even realise that their own lives are already ruined, but they’re hell-bent on ruining the lives of these children as well,” he said. (ANI)

Bareilly Violence: Main Accused Nadeem Khan, 55 Others Arrested

A total of 56 arrests were made by the Bareilly Police, including Nadeem Khan, a key conspirator in the Bareilly violence case. Khan is considered the right-hand man of Maulana Tauqeer Raza.

Bareilly SSP Anurag Arya led the crackdown, ensuring that justice was served and confirmed that Nadeem was apprehended by the police for his involvement in inciting violence. A total of 56 individuals have been arrested so far in connection with the violence.

“The main conspirator, Nadeem Khan, has been arrested today. A wireless set has been recovered from him. He is being sent to jail. The other accused are also being sent to jail. A total of 56 arrests, including that of Nadeem Khan, have been made so far. Their intention was to mislead the public and the police and break the law of the land…,” said Arya.

This comes after recent violence in Bareilly, Uttar Pradesh, related to the “I Love Muhammad” row. In the city of Bareilly, Uttar Pradesh, a seemingly peaceful protest turned violent on September 26, 2025. The situation escalated when a group of individuals, allegedly incited by provocative messages on WhatsApp, gathered at a specific location and clashed with the police. The confrontation resulted in injuries and significant damage to public property.

Nadeem Khan, one of the main conspirators, was arrested by the police for his role in orchestrating the violence. During interrogation, Khan revealed that an appeal letter bearing his signature, along with those of Dr. Nafis and Liaquat, was circulated on letterhead, urging people to gather and protest. However, Khan later attempted to mislead the public and the police by denying his involvement.

The police are still searching for Liaquat, another key figure involved in the incident. Arya assured the public that the investigation is ongoing, and those responsible will face the consequences of their actions. The authorities are working to maintain peace and order in the region, ensuring that such incidents do not recur.

The police also recovered a mobile handset snatched from a police officer during the incident and a weapon likely used during the violence from another accused, Jafruddin.

“Today, 28 accused have been arrested. One of the main conspirators, Nadeem Khan, has been arrested by the Police. Police have recovered the mobile handset that he had snatched from a police during the incident on 26th September. Another accused, Jafruddin, has been arrested, and a weapon probably used during the incident has been recovered from him. The accused, admitting to their involvement in the incident, stated that they received messages through WhatsApp to gather at a specific location. Accused Nadeem Khan has stated that an appeal, bearing his, Dr Nafis’s, and Liaquat’s signatures, was circulated on letterhead. Our team is searching for Liaquat. Nadeem Khan tried to mislead people, saying the signature on the appeal letter was not his…,” said SSP Bareilly.

Maulana Tauqeer Raza was arrested earlier, and both he and Khan have been sent to judicial custody. Raza was transferred to Fatehgarh Central Jail. SSP Bareilly further stated that more arrests will be made soon.

Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath warned that anyone inciting violence in the name of faith would be dealt with sternly. Security has been tightened in Bareilly and the surrounding districts, with top officials monitoring the situation closely.

On Friday, September 26, a group of people pelted stones during a protest after Friday prayers in Bareilly, prompting the police to resort to a lathi charge and detain several of them.

Protestors had gathered outside the Ala Hazrat Dargah and the residence of Ittehad-e-Millat Council chief Maulana Tauqeer Raza Khan, holding placards that read “I Love Mohammad.”

Earlier, UP Deputy Inspector General of Police (DIG) Range Ajay Kumar Sahni said that Maulana Tauqeer Raza, a cleric and the main conspirator of the violence, has been arrested and sent to judicial custody. (ANI)
