China Masters: PV Sindhu Advances To Quarterfinals

The two-time Olympic medalist PV Sindhu advanced to the quarterfinals of the Li-Ning China Masters 2025, defeating World No. 6 Pornpawee Chochuwong of Thailand in the Round of 16.

She registered a straight-games victory, winning 21-15, 21-15 in 41 minutes at the Shenzhen Arena.

PV Sindhu started her campaign at the ongoing China Masters with a win over Denmark’s Dawall Jakobsen in the first round on Tuesday.

As per ESPN, Sindhu defeated her opponent Jakobsen in two straight games by 21-5, 21-10 in just 27 minutes.

It would be crucial for Sindhu to go far in this competition, as she has had a season to forget so far, suffering six first-round exits in the Badminton World Federation (BWF) World Tour this year.

Sindhu started really well, racing to a massive lead and wiping off the first game in over 10 minutes. This pattern continued in the second game as well, with Sindhu closing out the game in 17 minutes and defeating Jakobsen for the third time.

The veteran shuttler will be aiming to roll back the clock and repeat her heroics in China when she won the China Open in 2016. Her best performances this year have been quarterfinal finishes in the India Open and BWF World Championships.

Ayush Shetty had a disappointing outing as he faced a first-round exit at the hands of sixth-seeded Chou Tien Chen 19-21, 21-12,16-21 in a close battle. The Indian star gave a considerable amount of fight, taking the match to a decider, but could not close it with a win.

Ayush is the only Indian to have captured a title in the BWF World Tour scene this year, having won the US Open title back in June, beating Canada’s Brian Yang in the finals.

The tournament will continue until September 21. (ANI)

AIIMS Delhi Begins Mega Medical Camp On PM Modi’s 75th birthday

Marking the occasion of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s 75th birthday, the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), New Delhi, launched a mega medical camp for women under the ‘Swasth Nari Sashakt Parivar’ campaign on Wednesday.

The initiative aims to provide free health checkups and screenings for women, with the goal of enhancing awareness and improving women’s access to preventive healthcare services.

During the event, Dr Nirupam Madan, Superintendent at AIIMS Delhi, claimed that the response to this initiative has been positive, as by the afternoon, it had received 300 registrations from patients, and the momentum continues to grow.

“We have just started after 1 pm, and one hour into the activity, we already have 300 registrations. It is going strong,” Madan told ANI.

The camp, which will continue for two weeks till October 2, is being organised to encourage more women to seek medical consultation and follow-up through the institute’s outpatient departments (OPDs).

“They are going to be conducted at a stretch for two weeks till the second of October. We hope that this will boost attendance of ladies in our general OPDs because those who register can follow up in the OPDs as well,” Dr Madan added.

Speaking about the services offered, Dr Madan said that doctors at the camp are conducting general physical examinations, antenatal checkups, and screening for communicable, non-communicable, dermatological, and ophthalmic disorders.

“The tests are being recommended by the doctors who are sitting for a general physical examination and antenatal checkup. We are screening particularly for communicable, non-communicable, and dermatological disorders. We also have ophthalmic tests,” she added.

Madan also mentioned that routine lab investigations are also recommended, and samples are collected at AIIMS itself.

“Any routine lab investigations being recommended are also being conducted, and their samples are being taken right here…” added Madan.

Meanwhile, Anjali, a security guard at the hospital, praised the initiative, stating that many women were benefiting from comprehensive health checkups at no cost.

“The services for which we have to generally spend money, we are getting here for free. We are able to get a full body check-up done here…” she said.

Similar initiatives are being held across the country to celebrate the Prime Minister’s birthday.

Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma announced a 15-day camp to celebrate Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s 75th birthday, in which 26000 health screening camps will be established across the state

While speaking to the reporters in Guwahati, the Assam CM mentioned that during the prime minister’s birthday, blood donation camps and economic help will be provided to women under the Arunodoi scheme.

“To celebrate the 75th birthday of PM Modi, in Assam, we are organising a 15-day program. In this program, women’s health screening will be done. Twenty-six thousand camps will be organised. In every Assembly constituency, a mega health screening camp will be organised. In ‘seva pakhwara’, we will organise blood donation camps…we will provide economic help to new writers. Under our Arunodoi scheme, 30 lakh women will be included. At the same time, we will provide a fresh boost to ‘Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam’,” Sarma said while addressing reporters in Guwahati.

He also added that the government will give a fresh push to the ‘Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam’ campaign and lauded PM Modi’s leadership in steering India towards becoming a developed nation. (ANI)

Trump To Designate Far-Left, Anti-Fascist Group Antifa As ‘Major Terrorist Organisation’

US President Donald Trump on Thursday announced that he is designating the far-left, anti-fascist movement Antifa as a “major terrorist organisation”, days after the fatal shooting of conservative political commentator Charlie Kirk.

In a post on shared on his social media platform, Truth Social, Trump described Antifa as a “sick, dangerous, radical left disaster” and called for a thorough investigation into individuals and organisations allegedly funding the group.

“I am pleased to inform our many U.S.A. Patriots that I am designating ANTIFA, A SICK, DANGEROUS, RADICAL LEFT DISASTER, AS A MAJOR TERRORIST ORGANIZATION. I will also be strongly recommending that those funding ANTIFA be thoroughly investigated in accordance with the highest legal standards and practices. Thank you for your attention to this matter!” Trump wrote.

The development comes in the wake of the killing of 31-year-old right-wing commentator and founder of Turning Point USA, Charlie Kirk, during an event in Utah on September 10. He was fatally shot in the neck while speaking at Utah Valley University, as reported by The New York Times.

Authorities arrested 22-year-old Tyler Robinson in connection with the killing, with officials in Trump’s administration saying that he had left-leaning political views.

Trump himself accused the “radical left” of inciting such political violence during his address following Kirk’s death.

US Vice President JD Vance also described Kirk’s killing as an “incredibly destructive movement of left-wing extremism”, which he argued played a role in the right-wing commentator’s death.

During his first term, Trump pledged to label Antifa as a terrorist organisation, and his Attorney General at the time, William Barr, described the group’s actions as “domestic terrorism”.

According to CNN, the practical impact of the proposed designation remains uncertain.

Antifa, short for anti-fascists, is not a formal organisation but rather a loosely defined social movement.

While US law prohibits giving “material support” to officially designated foreign terrorist groups, there is no equivalent statute for domestic organisations, as reported by CNN.

The term ‘Antifa’ generally refers to a wide range of individuals with left-leaning, often far-left, political beliefs that typically fall outside the mainstream Democratic Party agenda, as reported by CNN. The movement lacks a centralised leadership structure or national headquarters, though some local groups meet regularly. (ANI)

‘Dangerous And Reprehensible’: Mehbooba Mufti Slams BJP’s Over Hazratbal Dargah Row

Former Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti on Thursday attacked the Centre over the house arrest of political leaders in the Valley. She accused the BJP of “weaponising the pain of people” and calling its approach “dangerous and utterly reprehensible.”

Posting on X, Mehbooba Mufti wrote, The decision to place the political leadership under house arrest today, simply to stop us from visiting Sopore to offer condolences on the demise of Professor Abdul Gani Bhat, lays bare the harsh and undemocratic reality in Jammu and Kashmir.”

She called the controversy at Hazratbal Dargah a result of deep-seated public resentment. She added, “What unfolded at Hazratbal Dargah, the eruption of spontaneous, raw public anger, was not just an isolated incident. It was a loud, unmistakable message from a people pushed to the edge. The BJP, however, remains willfully blind to this truth, refusing to learn anything from the deep anguish and suppressed emotions that have been building for years now.”

Mufti accused the BJP of keeping Kashmir in a constant state of turmoil for political gains. “It is becoming increasingly clear that the BJP has no interest in peace or healing in Kashmir. Instead, they seem determined to keep the region in a constant state of turmoil, weaponising pain and unrest for political mileage across the rest of the country. This cynical approach is not just irresponsible; it is dangerous and utterly reprehensible,” she said.

Earlier, a viral video showed a mob defacing the national emblem on a marble plaque at the shrine, citing that sculpting figures goes against Islamic ethos.

A controversy erupted at the revered Hazratbal Shrine in Srinagar when a mob vandalised the Ashoka Emblem on the foundation stone, sparking a heated debate about national symbols and religious sentiments.

Earlier, former Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister and National Conference (NC) president Farooq Abdullah on Sunday criticised the state’s Waqf Board over the installation of a stone plaque that had the national emblem inscribed on it.

Speaking to reporters in Anantnag, Abdullah asserted that the concerned authorities shouldn’t have installed the board at the Assar-e-Sharief Hazratbal.

“What happened in Hazratbal was wrong. They shouldn’t have installed that board. My father and the people here in Habba Kadal were collecting funds for it. They reached a house where a woman had only a utensil. She gave the only thing in her possession. However, my father refused to accept it. She responded by saying, ‘Sheikh sahab, I am not giving this to you. I am giving it for Nabi Kareem’s Hazratbal dargah. If you don’t take it, you will have to answer before Allah.’ My father took the offering,” Abdullah said.

The former CM said that the authorities made the mistake of installing the board, which compelled people to register their protest. (ANI)

Punjab Intensifies Drive Against Child Begging Under JIWANJYOT 2.0

The Punjab Government has stepped up its campaign to eradicate child begging through Project JIWANJYOT 2.0, aimed at rescuing children from the streets and ensuring them education, care, and dignity.

Social Security, Women and Child Development Minister Baljit Kaur said that in a recent operation near a Gurdwara Sahib in Amritsar district, 15 children were rescued from begging, shifted to safe shelter homes, and provided with rehabilitation measures. She noted that public support has been encouraging, with more citizens reporting cases of child begging around religious places, markets, bus stands, and traffic signals.

“Children belong in schools, not on the streets. Project JIWANJYOT 2.0 is a major step towards our vision of a Punjab where no child is forced to beg,” Kaur said, stressing the government’s commitment under Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann to protect every child’s right to a safe childhood and quality education.

Special rescue teams have been deployed for the upcoming Kapurthala Jor Mela to ensure no child is pushed into begging during the event. Kaur underlined that the government’s strategy includes awareness campaigns, rescue operations, and structured rehabilitation programmes, particularly during festive gatherings when child begging tends to rise.

So far, 311 children have been rescued under the initiative. They are receiving education, nutrition, counselling, and rehabilitation support to reintegrate into mainstream society.

Appealing for community participation, Kaur urged people to report cases of child begging to the Child Helpline 1098 instead of giving alms. “This project is not just about rescue operations–it is a mission to build a secure and dignified future for children with strong community involvement,” she said.
