Last Date Of ITR Filing Today; Income Tax Dept Says Deadline Not Extended

The Income Tax Department on Sunday clarified that the due date for filing Income Tax Returns (ITRs) has not been extended beyond September 15, rejecting claims circulating on social media about a further extension.

In a statement, the I-T department said that fake messages were being circulated suggesting that the deadline, originally due on July 31, 2025 and later extended to September 15, 2025, had been pushed to September 30.

“A fake news is in circulation stating that the due of filing ITRs (originally due on 31.07.2025, and extended to 15.09.2025) has been further extended to 30.09.2025. The due date for filing ITRs remains 15.09.2025,” the Income Tax Department said in a post on X.

The department urged taxpayers to rely only on updates from its verified handle @IncomeTaxIndia and not to be misled by unverified posts.

It also said its helpdesk is working round the clock to assist taxpayers with ITR filing, tax payment, and related services.

“To assist taxpayers for ITR filing, tax payment and other related services, our helpdesk is functioning on a 24×7 basis, and we are providing support through calls, live chats, WebEx sessions & Twitter/X,” it added.

On Saturday, the I-T department had shared that over 6 crore ITRs had already been filed for the Assessment Year 2025-26. It thanked taxpayers and tax professionals for their contribution in reaching this milestone.

“Thank you taxpayers & tax professionals for helping us reach the milestone of 6 crore Income Tax Returns (ITRs) as of now and still counting. We urge all those who haven’t filed ITR for AY 2025-26, to file at the earliest to avoid last minute rush. Let’s continue this momentum!” the department had said in a post on X.

With Monday marking the final day for filing ITRs, the department has reminded taxpayers to meet the deadline to avoid penalties and interest. (ANI)

Nepal Interim Govt To Expand Cabinet With Three New Ministers Today

The cabinet of Nepal’s Interim government, led by Prime Minister Sushila Karki, is set to expand on Monday with the induction of at least three new ministers.

According to officials from the Prime Minister’s Office, Karki finalised the names after rounds of internal consultation.

“Former MD of the Nepal Electricity Authority, Kulman Ghising, will head the Ministry of Energy, Urban Development and Physical Infrastructure. Om Prakash Aryal will head the Ministry of Law and Home Affairs, and Rameshwor Khanal will take charge of the Ministry of Finance,” an official told ANI.

Ghising earlier served as Executive Director of the Nepal Electricity Authority, Aryal was Legal Advisor to the Kathmandu Metropolitan City, and Khanal is a former Finance Secretary.

As per the sources, the oath ceremony is scheduled for Monday itself. “Names have already been submitted to President Ram Chandra Poudel. Preparations are being made,” officials at Shital Nivas — the President’s Office, confirmed.

Paudel appointed Karki as the head of the interim government late on Friday, and she formally assumed office on Sunday. The cabinet expansion, initially expected on Sunday, was delayed due to her packed schedule.

Officials said Karki is also considering names for ministerial portfolios. “The Prime Minister is going through the names of various personnel to take them on board. She also had held rounds of consultations and interviews with them about their roadmap ahead,” an official told ANI.

Karki, a former Chief Justice, has until March 5 to conduct fresh elections and vacate the post for the Prime Minister to be chosen by the parliament that will be elected.

In her first address after taking office, she delivered a strong message of humility and accountability, stating that her administration is not in office to “taste power” but to stabilise the country, address demands for justice, and prepare for fresh elections within six months. “I and my team are not here to taste the power. We won’t stay for more than six months. We will hand over the responsibility to the new parliament. We won’t succeed without your support,” Karki said at a press conference at the Singha Durbar.

Karki also assured families that the government will assist in transferring the bodies of the deceased to their home districts and acknowledged the destruction caused during the protests, including damage to personal property, and said that the state will step in with support. She added that the government would investigate acts of vandalism and violence. (ANI)

India Thrash Pakistan in Asia Cup With Seven Wickets

India left Pakistan gobsmacked with an all-around effort to cruise to a seven-wicket victory with consummate ease in Dubai on Sunday to stay at the top of Group A at the ongoing Asia Cup. India gunned down the target with more than four overs to spare despite Saim Ayub leaving the world champions jolted in the powerplay.

After Kuldeep Yadav cast a spell with his left-arm wrist spin, captain Suryakumar Yadav played the captain’s knock to add to Pakistan’s misery in the rivalry fixture. While India roared with a comprehensive win, Pakistan perished, courtesy of their lacklustre performance across all facets of the game.

In pursuit of a paltry 128-run target, Abhishek Sharma went about the business with his usual flamboyant manner, and Pakistan’s pace spearhead Shaheen Afridi fell in the firing line. He announced himself by tonking a four and a six in the first over while vice-captain Shubman Gill went after part-time ball tweaker Saim Ayub.

In the second over, Gill danced down the track to drill the ball straight down the ground for a four. On the next delivery, he lofted the ball over extra-cover for a sublime four. At the end, it was Ayub who had the last laugh. Gill’s knack of ambling out of the crease came back to haunt him. He stepped out of the crease to defend the length, but the carrom-ball turned away, leaving him stranded. Gill stumbled while dragging his foot back and got stumped on 10(7).

Abhishek remained unfazed and flicked Shaheen for a towering maximum to keep the asking rate in check. He reeled in back-to-back boundaries off Ayub, which turned out to be the final action of his swashbuckling exploits. He went for glory but got caught tangled in Ayub’s slower off-break and holed it straight to Faheem Ashraf, returning on a quick-fire 31(13).

Boundaries dried up with captain Suryakumar Yadav and Tilak Verma negating the spin threat. Tilak showed flashes of brilliance with orthodox and unorthodox shots to find a couple of boundaries as India ended the powerplay on 61/2. While Suryakumar took his time to adjust to the conditions, Tilak continued to rotate the strike and patiently wait for boundary-hitting opportunities.

He eventually found it in the ninth over when spinner Sufiyan Muqeem left the ball in his arc and Tilak smoked the ball into the top tier at deep mid-wicket. Suryakumar found his groove with an exquisite back-cut to send the ball racing away for a four. Tilak was handed an unprecedented lifeline when he stood on 30 after Mohammad Nawaz dropped a sitter on his delivery in the 12th over.

The southpaw failed to make the most of the second life, adding just a solitary run before being bamboozled by Ayub on run-a-ball 31, pulling the curtains down on the 56-run stand. Suryakumar muscled the ball away for a couple of boundaries before Shivam Dube came down the track and clobbered the ball for a 90m towering six. Suryakumar applied the finishing touches with a massive slog sweep for a six to wrap up a seven-wicket victory. The Indian skipper returned unbeaten on 47(37) while Dube finished with 10*(7).

Earlier in the contest, Shaheen Afridi’s 16-ball 33* injected some life into the fixture, which was heavily a one-sided affair in India’s favour. After winning the toss, Pakistan skipper Salman Ali Agha opted to bat first. Pakistan’s innings got off to a disastrous start as Saim Ayub was dismissed for a golden duck by Hardik Pandya on the very first legal delivery of the match, and Mohammad Haris came to the middle.

Indian star seamer Jasprit Bumrah removed Haris in the following over for just three after he tried to pull Bumrah over square leg. Farhan and Fakhar Zaman increased the scoring rate as Pakistan finished power-play on 42; however, Fakhar was removed by spinner Axar Patel in the 8th over for 17 off 15 balls.

Since the start of 2021, Fakhar Zaman averages 13 coming down the track to spinners with eight dismissals, the second most for a batter from a full member side behind Afghanistan’s Rahmanullah Gurbaz. Pakistan skipper Salman Agha’s run drought in the ongoing Asia Cup continues as he was removed for three runs in 12 balls by Axar. After 10 overs, Pakistan were 49/4.

Pakistan tried to be aggressive against both pace and spin, but an outstanding bowling attack from India has just outclassed them. Kuldeep Yadav showed his magic as he gave a double blow to Pakistan, removing Hasan Nawaz and Mohammad Nawaz on successive deliveries.

Farhan, the only Pakistani batter to get runs under his belt, was sent back to the pavilion by Yadav in the 17th over for 40 runs off 44 balls, including three sixes and a four. Shaheen Afridi opened up his arms and smashed Yadav and Varun Chakaravarthy for six each.

Chakaravarthy, after being smashed for a six, removed Faheem Ashraf in the 18th over, and Sufiyan Muqeem joined Afridi in the middle. Muqeem slammed Bumrah for two fours in the 19th over before the veteran seamer cleaned him up for 10 off six balls.

Brief Scores: Pakistan: 127/9 (Sahibzada Farhan 40, Shaheen Afridi 33, Kuldeep Yadav 3/18) lost to India: 131/3 in 15.5 overs (Suryakumar Yadav 47, Abhishek Sharma 31, Saim Ayub 3/35). (ANI)

Asia Cup: Kuldeep’s Spin Magic Bundles Pak For 127

Traffic returned to normalcy in the Himalayan nation after the GenZ protests, its eerie silence in the aftermath following up to Karki’s oath-taking ceremony.

However, all is seemingly not well as the death toll in the GenZ protests in Nepal rose to 72 on Sunday, a police official told ANI. Amongst the dead, 59 were protestors, three police officials and 10 inmates who were attempting to flee.

Meanwhile, after taking charge as Karki announced that those killed during the anti-corruption protest in Nepal would be known as martyrs and a compensation amount of 1 million Nepali rupees would be given to their families.

She made the announcement in her remarks after assuming charge.

During the press conference, Karki said, “All those who died on September 8 will be known as ‘Martyrs’ and will receive one million Nepali rupees each. The government will bear the expenses of the injured, and they will also be compensated. Transfer of the bodies from Kathmandu to other districts will be facilitated by the government.”

Director Umesh Shukla also revealed why he chose Divya for the part, stating that he saw potential in her.

“I called her and said, Divya, I have a role for you. It’s a role you haven’t played yet, but if you put in the effort, it can turn out really well. Then I narrated the script to her, and she loved it,” he shared.

Indian Diamond & Jewellery Exporters Considering Overseas Units To Bypass US Tariffs

Indian diamond and jewellery exporters are looking to set up production units in friendly countries to avoid the impact of US tariffs and maintain competitiveness in the American market, according to industry insiders.

However, despite the anticipation of industry insiders, no significant player has officially announced such a move so far.

The US currently has a 50 per cent tariff on Indian diamonds and gems, which took effect on August 27, 2025.

“Our American market is like a major market, and that is a major segment of our exports. But naturally, to circumvent that, people are finding out ways where they can have a partial making in India and then try to finish the product somewhere else. So that technically it is not from India and it’s not subject to heavy tariffs,” said Hetal Vakil Valia, former National Chairperson of the India Bullion and Jewellers Association (IBJA) women’s wing. She said this on the sidelines of the 13th Edition of the Delhi Jewellery & Gem Fair 2025 in the national capital on Sunday.

Yogesh Mudras, Managing Director, Informa Markets, said industry players are trying to look at different markets to export, like Europe, Southeast Asia, and the Middle East.

“Industry is also trying to understand that there’s risk at this moment,, so they are trying to look at different markets to export, especially markets like Europe, Southeast Asia, and the Middle East. They’re trying to reroute the jewellery by semi-processing and then going to countries like Oman, where they can process it fully and then export to the US,” Mudras told ANI.

On the need to diversify trade, Prasoon Dewan, Scientific Gemologist and CEO of Divish Aurum Private Limited, which exports to markets in Europe and other geographies, said, “Policy shifts create tensions; tariff risks are always an integral part of any export business. This should never be seen as the end of the road. I think it is wiser for every business house to have multiple and alternative market avenues into different markets.”

Encouraging businesses to think beyond traditional markets, Dewan added, “It’s important for the new Bharat to step out of its comfort zone and explore emerging markets. Latin American countries, for instance, may offer a warm entry for our goods, alongside untapped potential in Eastern Europe.”

He concluded by urging a balanced and inclusive global trade outlook: “Every market should be treated equally. We must venture into all potential regions with a fair and open trade approach.

According to Crisil Intelligence, Micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs) in sectors such as textiles, diamonds and chemicals, which together account for nearly 45 per cent of India’s total exports, are likely to be the most affected by the imposition of higher tariffs by the US.

In the gems and jewellery sector, Surat’s diamond polishers, who dominate the country’s exports with over 80 per cent share, will also be severely affected.

Diamonds form over half of India’s total gems and jewellery exports, with the US being a major consumer, accounting for nearly a third of shipments. (ANI)

India Is Our Favourite: J-K Cricket Fans On India vs Pak Asia Cup’25

Jammu and Kashmir cricket fans on Sunday expressed confidence in Team India ahead of the Asia Cup clash against Pakistan, saying the match will be tough, but India’s strong line-up gives them an edge and “they will win like always.”

Rohit Chandel, a cricket fan from Jammu, said, “Being Indian, our favourite is obviously India. This match is not going to be easy. Although Pakistan’s team is new, there will be tough competition. It will be easy for India if we get a good start.”

Another fan from Jammu backed the Indian team, saying, “India will win like always. Our entire team is strong. I have maximum hopes from Suryakumar Yadav, Hardik Pandya and Jasprit Bumrah… It seems as if Pakistan cricket is almost over.”

India and Pakistan will face each other in the evening in Dubai.

From Mumbai, cricket enthusiast Shubham Chavan said, “The match should not take place. But as a sportsman, it should. India vs Pakistan is a big match. The matches are thrilling. It goes till the last over. So, it will be entertaining. India will win.”

Asgar Ali, a fan from Ahmedabad, voiced opposition to the match. “This match should not be played. Such a significant incident took place in our country, but we are still playing a cricket match against them. According to me, we should boycott this completely,” he said.

However, another fan held a different view, stating, “The match should be taking place. Sports and war are two different things. We should not mix them. We will watch this match definitely.”

Meanwhile, AIMIM chief Asaduddin Owaisi criticised the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) over the decision to play against Pakistan. Speaking to the media, he said, “My question to the Chief Minister of Assam, the Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh, and all of them is that you don’t have the power to refuse to play a cricket match against Pakistan, which asked for the religion of our 26 citizens in Pahalgam and shot them.” (ANI)
