Anurag Thakur: ‘We Want Peace In Nepal, Share Roti-Beti Ties’

Amid the ongoing unrest in Nepal for the past several days, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MP Anurag Thakur on Thursday advocated for “peace” in Nepal, asserting that India has a “Roti-Beti” and trade relations with the neighbouring country.

The BJP leader stressed that the Government of India had been taking all necessary measures to “evacuate” and “save Indian nationals” in the neighbouring country.

Speaking to mediapersons in Chandigarh, Thakur said, “The Government of India is taking all appropriate measures to evacuate and save Indian nationals. Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) is sharing details on this from time to time. We want peace in Nepal, and that there should be no loss of life or property. We have a ‘Roti-Beti’ relation with Nepal; we have trade relations. In a way, they are a part of our family.”

Meanwhile, 31 people have been killed and over 1000 injured in clashes with security forces during the anti-corruption demonstrations across the country, The Kathmandu Post reported.

The protests began on September 8, 2025, in Kathmandu and other major cities, including Pokhara, Butwal, and Birgunj, following the government’s imposition of a ban on major social media platforms, citing concerns over tax revenue and cybersecurity.

The Gen Z-led movement, which initially began as a peaceful protest, has seen moments of violence and chaos, which the leaders blame on political infiltrators.

Protesters have been demanding an end to “institutionalised corruption and favouritism” in governance. They want the government to be more accountable and transparent in its decision-making processes.

Earlier in the day, Nepal President Ram Chandra Paudel appealed to maintain peace, asserting that he is making “every effort” to find a way out of the current situation.

President Paudel said, “Respected Nepali brothers and sisters, I am making every effort to find a way out of the current difficult situation in the country within the constitutional framework and to protect democracy and maintain peace and order in the country. I appeal to all parties to be confident that a solution to the problem is being sought as soon as possible to address the demands of the agitating citizens and to cooperate with restraint in maintaining peace and order in the country.” (ANI)

“It’s the kind of song that brings adrenaline and attitude in equal measure,” the makers said, as per the press release.

The song has been composed, arranged, and produced by Ujwal Gupta, with lyrics by Kumaar. While the makers have already released two songs, including ‘Badli Si Hawa Hai’ and ‘Tu Pehli Tu Aakhri’, the third single shows a shift in the vibe by blending Dosanjh’s Punjabi essence with modern production. https://www.youtube.com/embed/bWNegJHBnUk

574 Roads Shut, 369 Water Supply Schemes Affected Due To Rains In Himachal

A total of 574 roads, including three National Highways, 812 Distribution Transformers (DTRs) for power supply, and 369 water supply schemes were affected during the monsoon in Himachal Pradesh, a report by the State Emergency Operation Centre (SEOC) of the Himachal Pradesh State Disaster Management Authority (HPSDMA) said on Thursday.

The HPSDMA has issued a morning status report detailing the widespread disruption of essential public utilities across the state due to persistent rainfall. As of 10:00 AM on Thursday, the State Emergency Operation Centre (SEOC) confirmed significant damage to the state’s infrastructure.

According to the report, a total of 574 roads remained blocked, with an additional three National Highways–NH-03, NH-305, and NH-503A–also affected. The report notes that this is a decrease from the 645 roads blocked the previous evening.

Power supply was severely impacted, with 812 Distribution Transformers (DTRs) disrupted across the state.

The report indicated that 369 water supply schemes were disrupted, a decrease from the 437 reported the previous day.

Heavy rain is cited as the primary reason for most of the disruptions. The following is a summary of the worst-hit districts in each category, based on the HPSDMA report:

Mandi district reported the highest number of blocked roads with 154, followed by Shimla with 72, Kangra with 42, and Chamba with 30. Mandi district saw the most significant power disruption with 245 DTRs out of order, while Kullu had 211, and Solan had 125, the report said.

Shimla district had the highest number of disrupted water supply schemes with 102, followed by Mandi with 52, and Chamba with 25.

The cumulative death toll since the beginning of the monsoon season has reached 380. Of these, 215 deaths were a direct result of rain-related incidents such as landslides, flash floods, and drowning. A separate count of 165 deaths was attributed to road accidents during the same period. (ANI)

‘About To Give You Explosive Evidence’: Rahul Intensifies Claims Of Vote Theft

Congress MP and Leader of Opposition (LoP) Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi on Thursday reiterated his claims of providing “explosive” evidence of alleged vote theft in the previously held assembly elections.

Speaking to reporters, Gandhi asserted that votes being stolen was a “fact”.

“We are about to give you dynamic and explosive evidence. The slogan ‘vote chor, gaddi chor’ is being echoed across the country. The fire is spreading since it is the truth. It is a fact that governments are being formed by stealing votes. We guarantee that we will be providing you with the proofs,” he added.

Rahul Gandhi, in a press conference on August 7, levelled serious allegations against the Election Commission of India (ECI), accusing it of direct involvement in large-scale voter fraud, with the Congress having “open-and-shut proof” of the alleged theft.

Gandhi presented Congress’ research on voting in the Mahadevapura Assembly in Karnataka. He alleged “vote chori” (vote theft) of 1,00,250 votes.

He launched a scathing attack on the BJP and the Election Commission and said that “collusion” happened between the poll body and the BJP, which resulted in Prime Minister Narendra Modi securing his third term.

He also slammed the ECI and alleged that the elections are “choreographed”.

Ahead of the upcoming assembly elections, Gandhi launched a 16-day ‘Voter Adhikaar Yatra’ in Bihar, with RJD leader Tejashwi Yadav joining him at the forefront.

The campaign aimed to raise awareness about alleged irregularities in the voter list, which opposition leaders have termed a case of vote chori (vote theft). Covering over 1,300 km across 20 districts, the yatra concluded on September 1.

In Bihar’s Madhubani earlier, Gandhi alleged that the BJP’s engagement in “vote theft originated from Gujarat, came to the national level in 2014.”

Gandhi, who is in Raebareli, met with the delegation of workers in the Feroze Gandhi Unchahar Thermal Power Station, under the National Thermal Power Corporation (NTPC), where he stayed the night before. Localities from Raebareli and Unchahaar are also meeting him. (ANI)

Kejriwal Slams Denial Of Abdullah’s Meet With Sanjay Singh

Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) convenor Arvind Kejriwal took a jibe at the Centre after former Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Farooq Abdullah was not allowed to meet MP Sanjay Singh, who went to Srinagar to protest AAP MLA Mehraj Malik’s arrest.

Sharing an X post, Kejriwal called the Jammu and Kashmir police’s action “hooliganism and dictatorship”.

“The former Chief Minister, who is the father of the current Chief Minister, is not being allowed to meet Sanjay Singh in his own state? This is outright hooliganism and dictatorship,” AAP convenor wrote.

Sanjay Singh shared the visuals and wrote, “It is a very sad thing that Farooq Abdullah Ji, who has been the Chief Minister of Jammu and Kashmir many times, came to meet me at the government guest house upon hearing the news of my house arrest by the police, but he was not allowed to meet me. If this is not a dictatorship, then what is it?”

Abdullah too condemned the attempt to stop AAP MP Sanjay Singh from holding a protest and presser against the detention of lone party MLA Mehraj Malik under the stringent Public Safety Act (PSA).

Speaking to ANI, Abdullah argued that not allowing Sanjay Singh to hold a protest was “absolutely wrong”. Criticising Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha, he said that the LG was utilising his powers for “wrong purposes”.

“This is absolutely wrong. In a democracy, protest is the right given by the Constitution of India. The sad part is that J&K is a UT, and the LG has all the powers. He is using it for the wrong purposes. Was it important to prevent Sanjay Singh from speaking? This is not an autocratic rule. There is a constitution here,” the former J&K CM said.

AAP MP Sanjay Singh was allegedly not allowed by the Jammu and Kashmir police to leave the government guest house in Srinagar to protest against the arrest of fellow party leader Mehraj Malik.

Sharing the visuals on X, Sanjay Singh called the police action “dictatorship”.

“Dictatorship is at its peak. I am in Srinagar at this moment. Raising one’s voice for rights and protesting in a democracy is our constitutional right,” he wrote.

Singh added that the AAP leaders were to hold a protest and a press conference in Srinagar.

The AAP MP wrote, “Today, there was a press conference and sit-in in Srinagar against the illegal arrest of Mehraj Malik, but the government guest house has been turned into a police camp. I am not being allowed to leave the guest house with Imran Hussain and companions.”

The visit came after the detention of Malik, an AAP MLA from the Doda constituency, who was booked under the provisions of the Jammu and Kashmir Public Safety Act, 1978, on Monday for activities being prejudicial to the maintenance of public order. (ANI)

‘We Are Family’: Modi To Mauritius PM Ramgoolam

Prime Minister Narendra Modi met with his Mauritian counterpart, Navinchandra Ramgoolam on Thursday where the two leaders held a bilateral meeting and exchanged several documents. PM Modi highlighted the special relationship between India and Mauritius and reiterated how the Indian Ocean country is an integral pillar of India’s Neighbourhood First policy and vision, MAHASAGAR.

The leaders held the bilateral meeting in PM Modi’s parliamentary constituency of Varanasi and greeted each other, reflecting the bonhomie and the strength of India-Mauritius ties.

Addressing a joint press briefing after the bilateral meeting and the exchange of documents, PM Modi said that it was a moment of pride for him to welcome Ramgoolam in Kashi.

PM Modi said, “While we welcome today our friends from Mauritius, this is not just formal meeting but a spiritual meeting, that is why I am proud to say that India and Mauritius are not just partners but one family. Mauritius is an important pillar of India’s neighbourhood first policy and vision Mahasagar.”

“From ancient times, Kashi has been the symbol of Indian civilisation and the soul of culture. Our culture and traditions reached Mauritius from India centuries ago and got absorbed in the life there. Like the continuous flow of Ganga in Kashi, the steady flow of Indian culture has been enriching and making Mauritius prosperous”, PM Modi said.

PM Modi also reflected upon his visit to Mauritius in March earlier this year as the guest for the National Day celebrations and how the leaders had upgraded the relationship to “enhanced strategic partnership”.

He highlighted in his remarks that during today’s bilateral meeting the leaders took stock of the various aspects of the India-Mauritius ties.

Earlier in the day, Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri had called upon PM Ramgoolam here in Varanasi.

Sharing the details in a post on X, the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) Spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal said that the they discussed the multifaceted partnership and reaffirmed commitment in strengthening the India-Mauritius Enhanced Strategic Partnership anchored in shared history, culture and people-to-people ties.

PM Ramgoolam had earlier visited India in May 2014 as the only non-SAARC leader invited to attend the swearing-in ceremony of the Prime Minister and the Council of Ministers.

He arrived in Varanasi on September 9 and was accorded a ceremonial welcome and Guard of Honour. He was received by Uttar Pradesh Governor Anandiben Patel.

The meeting between the two leaders in the historic city underscores the enduring civilisational connection, spiritual bonds, and deep-rooted people-to-people ties that have shaped the special and unique relationship between India and Mauritius.

The deepening cooperation between the two countries carries significance not only for the prosperity of the people of both countries but also for the collective aspirations of the Global South. (ANI)

Delhi Police Uncover Pak links In Terror Module, Five Held

The Delhi Police Special Cell has uncovered Pakistani links to a terror module and arrested three more suspects, taking the total number of arrests to five. The other two suspects were arrested earlier.

The police have also recovered some parts used in the making of IEDs.

Sources said the accused were in touch with handlers based in Pakistan through multiple social media accounts, which are now being verified.

According to investigators, the group’s key member, Ashraf Danish, was operating the module from India while maintaining contact with Pakistan-based individuals via encrypted and social media platforms. The probe has revealed that the suspects used these channels to radicalise youth in India and recruit them into their network.

Police sources said the group also ran multiple online groups aimed at spreading communal hatred and disturbing religious harmony.

Raids were carried out across four to five states, with nearly eight suspects questioned. So far, five suspected terrorists have been arrested, including two from Delhi and one from Madhya Pradesh, Hyderabad, and Ranchi each, they said.

From Danish’s possession, the Special Cell recovered a country-made pistol, live ammunition, chemicals including hydrochloric acid, nitric acid, sulphur powder, copper sheets, ball bearings, strip wires, electronic circuits, laptops, mobile phones, and cash. Officials suspect these materials were meant for making weapons and explosives. (ANI)
