A Tejas aircraft of the IAF crashed at the Dubai Air Show 2025 on Friday, resulting in the death of the Indian Air Force pilot Wing Commander Namansh Syal. The last rites of Wing Commander were performed on Sunday at his native village, Patialkar, in Kangra, Himachal Pradesh.

“An IAF Tejas aircraft met with an accident during an aerial display at Dubai Air Show, today. The pilot sustained fatal injuries in the accident. IAF deeply regrets the loss of life and stands firmly with the bereaved family in this time of grief. A court of inquiry is being constituted, to ascertain the cause of the accident,” the IAF said in its statement.

In October this year, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh inaugurated the third Production Line of Light Combat Aircraft (LCA) Tejas Mk1A and the second Production Line of Hindustan Turbo Trainer-40 (HTT-40) at the Nashik facility of Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL) on October 17, 2025. He also flagged-off the first LCA Mk1A produced at the facility.

In his address, the Minister had described the flight of the state-of-the-art aircraft as a shining symbol of India’s growing Aatmanirbharta in defence.

Highlighting the transformation of the defence sector in the last decade under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, he asserted that the country, which once imported 65-70 per cent of critical military hardware, is now manufacturing 65 per cent of the equipment on its own soil. He voiced the Government’s resolve to increase domestic manufacturing to 100 per cent in the near future. (ANI)

Filmmaker Karan Johar confirmed the demise in an emotional social media post. An official statement from Dharmendra’s family is still awaited. The news comes just weeks ahead of his 90th birthday on December 8.

“It is an end of an ERA….. a massive mega star… the embodiment of a HERO in mainstream cinema… incredibly handsome and the most enigmatic screen presence … he is and will always be a bonafide Legend of Indian Cinema… defining and richly present in the pages of cinema history … but mostly he was the best human being… he was so loved by everyone in our industry ….,” Karan’s Instagram post read.

He only had immense love and positivity for everyone … his blessings, his hug and his incredible warmth will be missed more than words can describe … Today there is a gaping hole in our industry … a space that can never be filled by anyone … there will always be the one and only DHARAMJI… we love you kind Sir…. We will miss you so much…. The heavens are blessed today…. It will always be my blessing to have worked with you…. And my heart says with respect, reverence and love…. Abhi Na jao chodke…. Ke dil abhi bhara nahi……,” he said.

Dharmendra is survived by his first wife, Prakash Kaur; his second wife, actress Hema Malini; and six children, including sons Sunny Deol and Bobby Deol, and daughters Vijeta and Ajeita from his first marriage, as well as daughters Esha Deol and Ahana Deol from his second marriage.

Born Dharmendra Kewal Krishan Deol on December 8, 1935, in the village of Nasrali in Punjab’s Ludhiana district, his father, Kewal Kishan Singh Deol, was a school headmaster. His love for movies took him to Mumbai, and he made his film debut with the 1960s romantic drama ‘Dil Bhi Tera Hum Bhi Tere’, directed by Arjun Hingorani. Though the film flopped, it opened doors to a world of his dreams.

However, he got his first commercial success in 1961 with Ramesh Saigal’s ‘Shola Aur Shabnam’. He followed it with hits, such as Mohan Kumar’s ‘Anpadh’ (1962) and Bimal Roy’s ‘Bandini’ (1963), which won the National Film Award for Best Feature Film in Hindi.

In 1965, he had another major success in Ram Maheshwari’s romantic drama ‘Kaajal’, also starring Meena Kumari, Raaj Kumar and Padmini in the lead roles. In 1966, Dharmendra reunited with Meena Kumari for O. P. Ralhan’s ‘Phool Aur Patthar’. The film topped the box office chart in 1966, becoming a major blockbuster and making him a saleable star.

He became the heartthrob of the 60s, and during this decade, he paired with legends like Nutan, Mala Sinha, Saira Banu, Vyjayanthimala, Meena Kumari, and Suchitra Sen, delivering romantic hits.

Dharmendra’s romantic hero image in the 1960s and early 1970s was characterised by his dashing good looks, charming smile, and soulful eyes, which captivated audiences across India. His romantic roles in films like ‘Aayee Milan Ki Bela’, ‘Ankhen’, ‘Neela Aakash’, ‘Aya Sawan Jhoom Ke’, ‘Dil Ne Phir Yaad Kiya’, ‘Mohabbat Zindagi Hai’, ‘Pyar Hi Pyar’, and ‘Mamta’ showcased his versatility as a leading man, effortlessly conveying yearning and tenderness.

Throughout the years, Dharmendra’s filmography grew to include iconic blockbusters such as ‘Sholay’, ‘Raja Jani’, ‘Seeta Aur Geeta, ‘Kahani Kismat Ki’, ‘Yaadon Ki Baraat’, ‘Charas’, ‘Azaad’, and ‘Dillagi’, showcasing his incredible range and versatility as an actor.

It was his charismatic presence, rugged good looks and unforgettable action-packed roles that solidified his status as an action icon.

As one of the greatest action stars of the 1970s and 1980s, Dharmendra delivered unforgettable performances in films such as ‘Dharam Veer’, ‘Gundagardi’, ‘Loafer, Jugnu, and, of course, the iconic Sholay. His acting in this phase blended emotional nuance, physicality, and comic timing, proving his versatility, which was far beyond a single genre.

In 1973, he delivered eight hits, and in 1987, Dharmendra delivered seven consecutive hits and nine successful movies in a single year.

His contributions to Indian cinema were acknowledged with the Filmfare Lifetime Achievement Award in 1997 and the Padma Bhushan in 2012.

Dharmendra’s heroic sheen dimmed in the 1990s. From 1990 to 1992, his successful films included ‘Naakabandi’ (1990), ‘Veeru Dada’ (1990),’Humse Na Takrana’ (1990), ‘Kohraam’ (1991) and ‘Tahalka’ (1992).

In the mid-1990s, he worked in ‘Policewala Gunda’ (1995) and ‘Mafia’ (1996), but his other releases, including ‘Maidan-E-Jung’ (1995) and ‘Return of Jewel Thief’ (1996), proved to be box office failures.

He gracefully shifted to supporting and character roles, bringing his trademark humility and wit to every frame. His film in this role was Sohail Khan’s romantic comedy ‘Pyaar Kiya To Darna Kya’ (1998), co-starring Salman Khan, Kajol, and Arbaaz Khan. The veteran star also worked in films such as ‘Kaise Kahoon Ke… Pyaar Hai’ (2003) and ‘Kis Kis Ki Kismat’ (2004), both of which were box office failures.

After this, he took a brief hiatus and returned with three films in 2007. These were – Anurag Basu’s drama film ‘Life in a… Metro’, Anil Sharma’s sports drama ‘Apne’ and Sriram Raghavan’s neo-noir thriller ‘Johnny Gaddaar’. Both ‘Life in a… Metro’ and ‘Apne’ proved to be critical and commercial successes.

In 2023, he surprised everyone with his stellar performance in Karan Johar’s directorial ‘Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani’. With his role, he literally proved that age is just a number. A much-discussed highlight from the film was his kiss with co-star Shabana Azmi, a moment that many hailed as a tender, progressive portrayal of love in later years, and one that took audiences pleasantly by surprise.

Even Dharmendra acknowledged the much-hyped scene. In a previous interview with ANI, the veteran star humorously recalled a conversation he had with co-star Ranveer Singh, saying, “Maine Ranveer ko bola, Ranveer, Rocky aur Rani ki prem kahani me, tune to bohot kisses ki hain, or meri ek hi kiss ne hila dala logo ko.”

Dharmendra’s footprint stretches beyond the silver screen. He was a Member of Parliament from Bikaner (2004-2009), a judge on the reality show “India’s Got Talent” (2011), and has appeared in historical series ‘Taj: Divided by Blood’.

He was also seen in Shahid Kapoor and Kriti Sanon’s romantic comedy ‘Teri Baaton Mein Aisa Uljha Jiya’, which reminded a new generation of his effortless charm. His upcoming project includes ‘Ikkis’.

He also produced landmark films under Vijayta Films. ‘Betaab’ (1983) launched son Sunny Deol, and ‘Ghayal’ (1990) won seven Filmfare Awards, including Best Film.

Dharmendra continued to defy time, staying dedicated to his fitness routine. He inspired his admirers by sharing glimpses of his regular exercise routine. He posted videos and reels from the gym, showing himself working out gracefully in a pool.

His nostalgic posts and reels on Instagram fetched thousands of likes from fans.

Not just in his professional journey, but even in his personal life, he has always remained in the spotlight. He had always shared a deeply affectionate bond with his family, especially with his children. Sunny, Bobby and Esha, in particular, have carried his cinematic legacy with grace and pride. They often acknowledge that whatever they are today is because of him.

Dharmendra will always be considered the epitome of romance, action, reinvention and grace for centuries.(ANI)

Chirag Paswan Tells Opposition To ‘Introspect’, Not Blame ‘Vote Theft And EVMs’

Union Minister Chirag Paswan on Friday slammed the opposition Mahagathbandhan for blaming “vote theft and EVMs” for their defeat in the recently held Bihar assembly elections instead of “introspecting”.

Speaking to reporters here, he said that the mindset of Congress and Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) has led to their “downfall”.

“After every defeat, you need to conduct an honest introspection. We, too, have gone through defeats. We honestly introspected on where we went wrong? So many days have passed since then, but these people (opposition) haven’t introspected even now. These people are still blaming vote theft and EVMs. These people just keep making excuses. If these people don’t stop making excuses, they will never come to power. Present your views with humility. The downfall of Congress and RJD has been caused by their mindset,” said Paswan, chief of Lok Janshakti Party (Ram Vilas).

Earlier, Jan Suraaj Party (JSP) founder and chief Prashant Kishor on Thursday held a silent introspection (Maun Vrat) at Bhitiharwa Gandhi Ashram in Bihar after not being able to open an account in the seats tally in the Assembly elections.

The development came as Nitish Kumar was sworn in as Chief Minister of the State for a historic 10th time in the presence of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and other NDA leaders.

Meanwhile, in a post on X, RJD leader Tejashwi Yadav congratulated the Chief Minister and the newly inducted ministers, expressing hope that the government would uphold the expectations of the people.

“Heartfelt congratulations to the esteemed Shri Nitish Kumar Ji on taking the oath of office as the Chief Minister of Bihar. Heartfelt best wishes to all the ministers of the Bihar government who took the oath as members of the Council of Ministers. I hope that the new government will live up to the hopes and expectations of responsible people, fulfil its promises and declarations, and bring positive and qualitative changes in the lives of the people of Bihar,” Tejashwi posted on X.

A day after the oath-taking ceremony, Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar on Friday allocated cabinet portfolios to the newly elected National Democratic Alliance (NDA) MLAs who swore-in as ministers in the cabinet, giving up the Home department to the ally Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).

Samrat Choudhary, the Deputy Chief Minister and a BJP leader, has been given charge of the Home department. Kumar will not handle the Home department for the first time since he came to power in 2005.

Kumar has retained the General Administration Department (GAD), Cabinet Secretariat, Vigilance, Election, and other departments not allocated to any minister.

The cabinet allocation followed the oath-taking ceremony, where Nitish Kumar returned as Bihar CM for the 10th time, with 26 NDA MLAs sworn in as ministers. Of the 26 elected MLAs, eight are from JD(U), two from Lok Janshakti Party (Ram Vilas), and one each from Upendra Kushwaha’s Rashtriya Lok Morcha (RLM) and HAMS.

12 new faces have been inducted in the Nitish Kumar-led Bihar cabinet, including sons of Kushwaha and Manjhi, along with Shreyasi Singh.

LJP(RV) leader Sanjay Kumar Paswan, a first-time MLA, will oversee the Sugarcane Industry department, while LJP(RV)’s Sanjay Kumar Singh has been allocated the Public Health Engineering department.

RLM’s Deepak Prakash will take charge of the Panchayati Raj department.

14 leaders from the BJP have been allocated portfolios in the newly formed government in Bihar, given its emergence as the single largest party after winning 89 assembly seats. (ANI)

Dhaka Sends Fresh Request To Delhi For Sheikh Hasina’s Extradition

Days after deposed Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina received a death sentence from the Bangladesh International Crimes Tribunal, the interim government of Bangladesh has written to the Indian Ministry of External Affairs seeking her extradition.

As per a report in the Dhaka Tribune, officials confirmed that a new diplomatic note was sent to New Delhi shortly after High Representative for the Rohingya Issue Khalilur Rahman’s return from an engagement in the Indian capital.

Foreign Affairs Adviser Touhid Hossain told mediapersons on Sunday that Dhaka had formally communicated with India again regarding Hasina’s return but did not disclose further details.

A diplomatic source in New Delhi informed United News of Bangladesh that the note verbale was dispatched soon after the 7th National Security Advisers’ meeting of the Colombo Security Conclave, which Khalilur Rahman attended on Thursday.

Earlier this week, the ICT delivered its verdict, sentencing Hasina and the country’s former home minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal to death in a case related to crimes against humanity during last year’s July-August unrest.

Former police chief Chowdhury Abdullah Al-Mamun, a state witness, received a five-year prison term.

Following the ruling, Dhaka urged India to hand over both convicted individuals without delay, the Dhaka Tribune reported.

Touhid Hossain said Bangladesh would formally notify India of its position, noting that the situation had changed since the conclusion of the trial.

“This is also an obligation for India under the existing extradition treaty between the two countries,” the Bangladesh Ministry of Foreign Affairs said in a statement quoted by the Dhaka Tribune.

It added that “It would be a grave act of unfriendly conduct and a travesty of justice for any other country to grant shelter to these individuals convicted of crimes against humanity.”

India acknowledged the tribunal’s decision and said it remains committed to engaging constructively with Bangladesh.

“As a close neighbour, India remains committed to the best interests of the people of Bangladesh, including in peace, democracy, inclusion and stability in that country,” the Ministry of External Affairs said in its statement.

It added that New Delhi would continue to work with all stakeholders to support these objectives.

Security analyst and Bangladesh Institute of Peace and Security Studies president ANM Muniruzzaman said at an event in Dhaka that India should honour Bangladesh’s legal processes.

He stated that Hasina’s trial had “gone through all international standards and legal systems” and that respecting those norms would require her return to Bangladesh, as reported by the Dhaka Tribune.

He also noted that the extradition treaty between the two countries includes provisions relevant to such cases.

Muniruzzaman further said that under international legal standards, countries are expected to return convicted individuals when formally requested.

He added that by those measures, New Delhi should abide by the treaty and cooperate with Dhaka’s request. (ANI)

Ayodhya: Devotees Reach Ram Janmabhoomi Temple For Flag Hoisting Ceremony On Tuesday

Ayodhya (Uttar Pradesh) [India], November 24 (ANI): A large number of devotees reached Shri Ram Janmabhoomi Temple on Monday morning for the ‘darshan’ of Lord Ram ahead of the ‘Dhwajarohan’ or flag hoisting ceremony on November 25.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi will hoist the saffron flag tomorrow atop the Shri Ram Temple, a momentous occasion expected to attract large numbers of domestic and international visitors.

The preparation for the grand flag hoisting ceremony at the Shri Ram Janmabhoomi Temple is in full swing. The temple and the city are being adorned with elaborate floral decorations, with around 100 tons of flowers used to decorate Ayodhya for the sacred event.

Speaking to ANI, one of the devotees said he would be fortunate to have Darshan of Ram Lalla. “I am excited to be fortunate enough to have Ram Lalla’s Darshan ahead of the Dhwajarohan ceremony tomorrow…” he said.

Praising PM Modi for developing Ayodhya, another devotee told ANI, “I am from Karnataka. We reached Ayodhya last evening. The arrangements are very good here. PM Modi has developed Ayodhya a lot.”

“I have come here from Karnataka. We are going for Darshan. All of this is happening because Narendra Modi became the Prime Minister of our country. Otherwise, none of this would have happened. He is great and we are proud of him,” another devotee from Karnataka told ANI.

“I had been wanting to come here for a very long time. I am blessed to be here today. I had my tickets booked, but everyone around me told me I wouldn’t get Darshan because PM Modi is coming on the 25th. But I came here anyway and had Darshan. I am very happy to be here,” a devotee said.

Meanwhile, security was tightened in the area and a team of the Rapid Action Force (RAF) was deployed at the Shri Ram Janmabhoomi Temple.

Speaking to ANI, a temple priest said preparations are underway at full pace. “Preparations for the Dharm Dhwaj ceremony at Ram Mandir are underway in full swing. A special feature of the decoration is the use of flowers, which are very dear to Lord Ram. Today, Ayodhya is glowing with floral arrangements, with marigolds placed first for Lord Ganesh and Lord Ram. Around 100 tons of flowers have been used to decorate the temple and the city.”

Workers engaged in the decoration work said they feel fortunate to contribute to this historic moment. “The Ram Mandir is being decorated, and the construction of the temple has already been completed. This is the time for the Dhwaj ceremony. Prime Minister Modi will visit on the 25th. Many types of flowers are being used, and we are receiving full support from the saints,” one worker told ANI.

Another decoration worker added, “We feel very lucky to have had the darshan of Lord Ram. The work has been going on day and night since we arrived three days ago, and it is looking very beautiful.”

Further, the Chief Minister’s office noted that Prime Minister Narendra Modi will hoist the saffron flag atop the Shri Ram Temple, a momentous occasion expected to attract large numbers of domestic and international visitors. This influx of devotees is likely to stimulate growth across multiple sectors, including hospitality, travel, local crafts, and ODOP-linked products such as jaggery, generating business worth several crores during the period.

Notably, Indologist Lalit Mishra’s discovery has restored Ayodhya’s ancient flag to its rightful place. Mishra identified the flag while studying a painting from the pictorial Ramayana of Mewar, and later confirmed its mention in the Valmiki Ramayana’s Ayodhya Kand.

The flag to be hoisted carries three symbols: Om, the Sun, and the Kovidara tree. The Kovidar tree is a hybrid of the ‘Mandar’ and ‘Parijat’ trees, created by Rishi Kashyap, showcasing ancient plant hybridisation. The Sun represents Lord Ram’s Suryavansh lineage, and Om is the eternal spiritual sound. (ANI)

Justice Surya Kant took oath as the 53rd Chief Justice of India on Monday, succeeding Justice BR Gavai, and marking the beginning of his nearly 15th month tenure.

President Murmu administered the oath of office to Justice Surya Kant at the Rashtrapati Bhavan today.

Justice Kant was born on February 10, 1962 in Hisar, Haryana. He started practicing as a lawyer in the Hisar district court from 1984, and shifted to Chandigarh for practicing in Punjab and Haryana High Court in 1985.

Specialising in constitutional, service and civil matters, he has represented a number of universities, Boards, Corporations, Banks and also the High Court itself.

He was the youngest appointed Advocate General of Haryana in July 7, 2000 and designated as a Senior advocate in March of next year. He held the office of Advocate general till his elevation as a permanent judge to the Punjab and Haryana High Court on January 9, 2004. 15 years later, on May 24, 2019, Justice Surya Kant was elevated as a judge of the Supreme Court.

He has been a two-term member of the Governing Body of National Legal Services Authority, and is presently a member of various Committees of Indian Law Institute – a deemed university under the aegis of the Supreme Court.

He graduated from Government Post Graduate College in 1981, earned his bachelors in La in 1984 from Maharishi Dayanand University, Rohtak.

Justice Kant is looking focus on reducing the massive pendency of cases across the country during his tenure.

While addressing a group of legal journalists at his official residence in Delhi, ahead of taking charge as the Chief Justice of India (CJI), the Justice talked about his priorities before assuming charge of the highest judicial office of India.

He also described mediation, an alternative dispute resolution mechanism, as “a game changer” capable of providing faster, off-court settlements to litigants.

He said that arrears (pending cases) must be addressed both at the individual court level and on a Pan-India basis. He noted that he has already taken up this issue. One of the major challenges, he explained, is the overlapping of matters.

He said that “thousands of matters are kept in abeyance as they await decisions from these larger benches.”

As a result, High Courts and District Courts are also stuck due to multiple legal questions that remain unresolved, he stated.

He said that once these complexities are sorted out, the next steps can follow.

Notably, multiple chief justices of other countries, and multiple other foreign guests attended the oath taking ceremony of CJI Surya Kant, marking the biggest such delegation which has come to witness the swearing in ceremony of a CJI of India.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday, while addressing the IBSA Leaders’ Meeting on the sidelines of the G20 Summit, called on nations to unite against terrorism and suggested institutionalised NSA-level meetings.

Amid recent terror attacks in the country, PM Modi said that there can be no room for double standards on such an issue.

“We must work in close coordination in the fight against terrorism. On an issue of such gravity, there can be no room for double standards. For the sake of global peace and prosperity, united and decisive action is essential. The first meeting of the NSAs of the three countries was held under India’s IBSA chairmanship in 2021. We can institutionalize this to strengthen security cooperation,” he said.

He said that IBSA connects three continents and three major economies, hence it is a vital platform in promoting unity, cooperation, and humanity, offering a message of hope in a fragmented world.

“IBSA is not just a forum of three countries; it is a vital platform that connects three continents, three major democratic powers, and three significant economies. It is also a deep and enduring partnership, rooted in our diversity, shared values, and shared aspirations,” he said.

PM Modi noted the summit’s timely timing. He said the important initiatives taken by the G20 nations over the years.

“Today’s IBSA Leaders’ Meeting is both historic and timely. This first G20 Summit on the African continent marks the culmination of four consecutive G20 presidencies led by Global South countries. Over the past three years, the three IBSA nations have headed the G20. Across these three summits, we have advanced several important initiatives on shared priorities, including human-centric development, multilateral reform, and sustainable growth. It is now our collective responsibility to strengthen these initiatives and enhance their impact. In this spirit, I would like to offer a few suggestions on our cooperation,” he said.

PM Modi stressed the need for reform, citing the UN Security Council as an example, and urged IBSA to send a unified message on this issue.

“First, we all agree that global institutions do not reflect the realities of the 21st century. None of us is a permanent member of the UN Security Council. This clearly demonstrates that global institutions no longer represent today’s world. Therefore, IBSA must send a unified message to the world: institutional reform is not an option but a prerogative,” he said.

He proposed several initiatives, including an IBSA Digital Innovation Alliance and an IBSA Fund for Climate-Resilient Agriculture.

“Technology plays a vital role in advancing human-centric development. IBSA can assume a leading role in emerging technologies, particularly in the areas of Digital Public Infrastructure and Artificial Intelligence. In this regard, we could consider establishing an “IBSA Digital Innovation Alliance,” through which Digital Public Infrastructure such as UPI, health platforms like CoWIN, cybersecurity frameworks, and women-led technology initiatives can be shared across our three countries. This will accelerate the growth of our digital economies and create scalable solutions for the Global South. Together, we can contribute to the creation of safe, reliable, and human-centric AI norms. This could be launched at the AI Impact Summit in India next year,” he said.

He highlighted IBSA’s potential to contribute to global welfare, citing examples like millet promotion, natural farming, and green energy.

“For sustainable growth, IBSA can not only complement one another’s development efforts but also serve as an example for the world. Whether in the promotion of millets and natural farming, disaster resilience and green energy, or traditional medicine and health security, by combining our strengths across these areas, we can contribute meaningfully to global welfare,” he said.

PM Modi noted that the IBSA Fund helped implement 50 projects across 40 countries. The project includes education, health, women’s empowerment, etc.

“It was with this vision that the IBSA Fund was created. With its support, we have implemented nearly fifty projects across forty countries. These initiatives ranging from education and health to women’s empowerment and solar energy have been shaped by the needs of local communities. To further reinforce this spirit of cooperation, we could consider establishing an IBSA Fund for Climate-Resilient Agriculture,” he said.

PM Modi said that as today’s world appears divided, IBSA can offer a lesson on humanity.

“Today’s world appears fragmented and divided on many fronts. In such a time, IBSA can offer a message of unity, cooperation, and humanity. This is both our responsibility and our strength as three democratic nations,” he said. (ANI)
