US Releases Video Of Arrested Venezuelan Dictator Maduro In Handcuffs

The US has released a video of captured Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro in handcuffs staging the ‘Perp-walk’ as he was led to custody.

Maduro will be transferred to the Metropolitan Detention Center (MDC) in New York City, as per CNN.

MDC is described as “disgusting” with “horrifying” conditions, and is known for its squalid conditions, chronic understaffing, inmate violence and power outages.

The prison was built in the 1990s to combat prison overcrowding. The facility has housed people including singer R Kelly, “Pharma Bro” Martin Shkreli, socialite Ghislaine Maxwell, one-time cryptocurrency whiz kid Sam Bankman-Fried and music mogul Sean “Diddy” Combs. Suspected cartel leader Ismael “El Mayo” Zambada Garcia was also held there as he awaited trial on murder and drug trafficking charges, as per CNN.

Hours after Maduro and his wife’s abduction, Venezuela’s opposition was seen celebrating.

Trump expressed a lack of confidence in Maria Corina Machado, Former Deputy of the National Assembly of Venezuela and suggested he’d instead partner with Maduro loyalist Delcy Rodriguez.

Machado had called for the immediate installation of Edmundo Gonzalez Urrutia as president. Most Western governments regard Gonzalez as the legitimate winner of the contested 2024 presidential election in Venezuela, as reported by CNN.

In a press conference, Trump was asked whether Machado would have any part in the post-Maduro government. Trump answered that he had not been in contact with her, and that while Machado was a “very nice woman,” she “doesn’t have the support within or the respect within the country” to lead Venezuela.

Meanwhile, Venezuela’s Supreme Court has ordered Vice President Delcy Rodriguez to assume the powers and duties of acting president after the United States removed Nicolas Maduro.

The order was announced on Saturday night, local time, concluding that Maduro is in a “material and temporary impossibility to exercise his functions.” (ANI)

Nicolas Maduro, His wife Land In New York After US Military Capture

The plane carrying Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro and his wife, Cilia Flores, has landed at Stewart Air National Guard Base in New York on Saturday (local time) following their capture in a large-scale US military strike in Caracas, Venezuela.

Venezuela’s President Nicolas Maduro and his wife, Cilia Flores, were captured in Caracas and flown out of the country in a joint operation involving intelligence agencies and US law enforcement.

Trump on Saturday (local time) said that Maduro and his wife, who were captured in Caracas during a US military operation, have been indicted on charges of alleged “drug trafficking and narco-terrorism conspiracies” in the Southern District of New York, and will face trial.

He said that American forces, working with law enforcement agencies, captured Maduro and his wife in a night-time operation.

While addressing a press conference in Florida, Trump said, “No nation in the world could achieve what America achieved yesterday or frankly, in just a short period of time. All Venezuelan military capacities were rendered powerless as the men and women of our military, working with US law enforcement, successfully captured Maduro in the dead of night.”

“It was dark, and it was deadly, but he was captured along with his wife, Cilia Flores, both of whom now face American justice. Maduro and Flores have been indicted in the Southern District of New York,” he said.

Trump said that Maduro and his wife “will soon face the full might of American justice and stand trial on American soil” for their alleged role in drug trafficking, adding that they are currently being taken to New York, with authorities to decide later whether the trial will be held in New York or Florida.

“We will make the people of Venezuela rich, independent, and safe. The illegitimate dictator Maduro was the kingpin of a vast criminal network responsible for trafficking colossal amounts of deadly and illicit drugs into the United States. Maduro and his wife will soon face the full might of American justice and stand trial on American soil. Right now, they’re on a ship that will be heading to, ultimately, New York. And then a decision will be made, I assume, between New York and Miami or Florida,” he said. (ANI)

‘Act Of War, Violation Of International Law’: NYC Mayor Mamdani On Maduro’s Capture By US

New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani on Saturday (local time) called the capture of Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro and his wife an “act of war” and “violation of international law”.

He said it violates federal and international law and could affect tens of thousands of Venezuelans living in the cosmopolitan world city.

In a post on X, Mamdani said, “I was briefed this morning on the U.S. military capture of Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro and his wife, as well as their planned imprisonment in federal custody here in New York City. Unilaterally attacking a sovereign nation is an act of war and a violation of federal and international law.”

“This blatant pursuit of regime change doesn’t just affect those abroad, it directly impacts New Yorkers, including tens of thousands of Venezuelans who call this city home. My focus is their safety and the safety of every New Yorker, and my administration will continue to monitor the situation and issue relevant guidance,” he added.

19.32 Lakhs Voters Have No Mapping With 2002 List: Chief Electoral Officer Kerala

Following the Election Commission’s weekly political party meeting on Special Intensive Revision (SIR), Chief Electoral Officer Kerala, Rathan U Kelkar, said that 19.32 lakhs voters were identified who have no mapping with the 2002 list.

Speaking to reporters, Rathan U Kelkar said, “We had a weekly meeting with political parties in Kerala. We have found 19.32 lakhs voters who have no mapping with the 2002 list. As per the direction of the commission, their documents will be examined to get convinced about the eligibility of these voters. We have nearly a thousand AEROs and DROs in the state. We have issued them directions as per the commission’s instructions on the way in which hearing has to be conducted. Notices have been generated to all the voters, and they are getting issued to all the voters.”

He further said that the final publication of the Electoral roll is scheduled to be released on February 21.

“Hearings will continue very soon. We hope that within the time limit as instructed by the Election Commission, we will be able to complete all hearings. We have informed all AEROs and DROs to ensure that people who are bedridden, senior citizens and finding it difficult to attend to be facilitated so that they don’t have any inconvenience as part of hearings. The hearings will be decided by the EROs at the level of polling station or village officers based on convenience of voters and officers. We are scheduled to come out with the final publication of the Electoral roll on February 21,” he said.

He further stated that before that, they would be able to complete the hearings of the people with no mapping.

“We are also undertaking efforts to get new voters with Form 6 and 6A, which are of Indian origin and well as people overseas electors into the list before the designated time,” he added.

Earlier, over 24.08 lakh electors were deleted from the voter lists in Kerala as the Election Commission of India (ECI) published the draft electoral roll after the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) exercise in the state.

According to the release, the Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) of Kerala held ‘SIR Joyathon’, a motivational stress-relief campaign launched in late 2025 during the SIR exercise in Kerala. It aimed to support BLOs, election officials and volunteers managing the heavy workload of digitising voter enumeration forms.

Districts started a series of Best BLO/Supervisors of the Day to motivate them. Experience sharing of BLOs who have completed 100 per cent digitisation was also promoted through social media.

Led by the Chief Electoral Officer, the Night Out initiative involved senior officials joining Booth Level Officers (BLOs) to directly engage with people at the grassroots level of society, working without time constraints to ensure complete outreach. Conducted Kite Festival, Sand Art on behalf of SIR campaign, Visiting Unnathies, Conducting Votathon Ralli, Candle Light March, appreciating the efforts of BLOs by sending personalised postcards signed by the District Collector, A Day with BLO, etc were done as part of SIR promotion, press release said.

Kerala identified places with poor or slow network in the initial days of SIR, so it started a community model for digitisation. BLOs in such places would sit together in a strong network area and digitise the EFs for speedy work. Special urban camps were organised in all wards of Urban Local Bodies (ULBs) across the State to ensure complete coverage of urban electors. (ANI)

‘Toxic’ Makers Present Tara Sutaria As ‘Enigmatic And Fragile’ Rebecca, First Look Out

The makers of Yash starrer ‘Toxic: A Fairytale for Grown-Ups’ appear to be taking the excitement to the next level with back-to-back character posters.

The first look at Tara Sutaria as the “enigmatic and fragile” Rebecca has been unveiled, adding more to the growing buzz around the upcoming film.

Marking Tara’s first brush at a pan-India release, ‘Toxic’ is set to present her as someone highly desirable and elegant, yet wielding “power and guns like her birthright,” the makers said, as per a press release.

In the poster, Tara could be portraying an intense look, appearing stunning in a dramatic outfit while boldly holding onto a gun.

Speaking about her character, ‘Toxic’ director Geetu Mohandas shared, “I’ve always felt an instinctive love to protect Tara. Perhaps because she is a guarded soul, or perhaps it’s the armour she’s comfortable with. And perhaps it doesn’t need to be defined. I realised early on that the best way to reach her was not by pushing, not by demanding more, but by allowing her the space to simply be. That choice shaped our equation, which turned out calm, deeply professional, and perfectly aligned. She observed more than she spoke. She listened more than she revealed. And I often wondered if I should guide her more closely. But in her silence, something powerful was brewing,” as per the press release.

Mohandas also explained that Tara Sutaria delivered a “breathtaking” performance, further adding, “She surprised me completely, and in the most beautiful way. I have no doubt she will surprise everyone else, too.”

Tara Sutaria’s first look arrived on the heels of the striking revelations of Kiara Advani as Nadia, Huma Qureshi as Elizabeth, and Nayanthara as Ganga, promising to unfurl the many layers of the film’s dark, immersive universe.

Written by Yash and Geetu Mohandas and directed by Geetu Mohandas, ‘Toxic: A Fairytale for Grown-Ups’ has been filmed simultaneously in Kannada and English, with dubbed versions planned in Hindi, Telugu, Tamil, Malayalam, and several other languages.

The film marks Yash’s return to the big screen after ‘KGF: Chapter 2’.

Produced by Venkat K. Narayana and Yash under KVN Productions and Monster Mind Creations, ‘Toxic’ is set to hit theatres on March 19, 2026, coinciding with Eid, Ugadi, and Gudi Padwa. (ANI)
