Modi’s Appeal To Purchase Khadi Leads To Record-Breaking Sale Worth Rs 1.5 Cr

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday expressed delight at the record-breaking sale of Rs 1.52 crore at ‘Khadi Bhawan’ in Delhi’s Connaught Place and said that the purchase of the hand-woven cloth across the country shows how it has become a symbol of public sentiment.

“The new record of the purchase of Khadi by our family members across the country shows how it has become a powerful symbol of public sentiment. I am confident that this love for Khadi will continue to create new records every day, which will give new strength to the vision of a self-reliant India,” posted the Prime Minister on X.

This comes after the Prime Minister urged people to purchase Khadi on Gandhi Jayanti during his “Mann Ki Baat” programme on September 24. As a result, a record sale of Rs 1.52 crore was made at Khadi Bhawan in a single day.

“Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the custodian of Khadi, the legacy of Pujya Bapu and the architect of ‘Modern Khadi of New India’, had appealed to the people to buy Khadi on ‘Gandhi Jayanti’ in the ‘Mann Ki Baat’ program on 24th September. As a result, for the first time in the history of Khadi, a record sale of Rs 1.52 crore was achieved in a single day at ‘Khadi Bhawan’ in Connaught Place, Delhi,” posted Khadi India on X.

According to an official statement from the Ministry of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises, “The people of Delhi have set a new record in the purchase of Khadi and Village Industries products on the appeal of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.”

“On the occasion of Gandhi Jayanti, the flagship Khadi Bhawan at Connaught Place in the heart of New Delhi witnessed the highest-ever sale of Khadi and Village Industries products worth Rs 1,52,45,000,” it said.

Chairman of the Khadi and Village Industries Commission (KVIC), Manoj Kumar attributed the phenomenal sales of Gandhi ji’s legacy Khadi on Gandhi Jayanti to the ‘Brand Power “of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and his unprecedented popularity among the masses.

According to the latest sales data, in the last financial year 2022-23, on the day of Gandhi Jayanti, Khadi Bhawan in Connaught Place, Delhi, the sale was Rs 1,33,95,000, this time it has reached the figure of Rs 1,52,45,000, said the statement.

As the first customer on the occasion of Gandhi Jayanti, KVIC Chairman Manoj Kumar purchased Khadi clothes at Khadi Bhawan, Connaught Place on October 2, morning and made a digital payment through UPI.

According to the KVIC Chairman, PM Modi, on many occasions, has appealed on the national and international forums to buy Khadi products.

Speaking on the occasion of G20 and National Handloom Day held recently at Bharat Mandapam, Pragati Maidan, New Delhi, he mentioned how in the last 9 years, the mantra of ‘Aatmanirbhar Bharat Abhiyan’ and ‘Vocal for Local’ has led to the sale of Khadi and Village Industries products crossing Rs 1.34 lakh crore.

During the G-20 Summit, in the program held at Rajghat to pay tribute to the revered Bapu, the Prime Minister not only gave global recognition to Khadi by welcoming the world leaders with Khadi clothes but also inspired the people of the country to buy Khadi.

As a result, on the day of Gandhi Jayanti, there was a huge rush of people to buy Khadi products at Khadi Bhawan in Connaught Place, Delhi.

If we look at the figures for the last three years of sales on the day of Gandhi Jayanti, every year the sales have crossed the figure of Rs 1 crore.

But this is the first time that the sales figure has jumped to Rs 1.5 crore. While the sale of Khadi and Village Industries products was Rs 1.01 crore in FY 2021-22 and it increased to Rs 1.34 crore in the year 2022-23, the sales figure crossed Rs 1.52 crore in this financial year, said the statement.

All these figures make it evident that under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi ‘Khadi of India” has become the forerunner of “Atmanirbhar Bharat Abhiyan” in the country, it said. (ANI)

Canada Not Looking To Escalate Situation With India: Trudeau

Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau on Tuesday said that his country was not “looking to escalate the situation with India,” adding that Ottawa wants remain on the ground in New Delhi to help Canadians, Reuters reported.

“Canada is not looking to escalate the situation with India, will continue to engage responsibly and constructively with New Delhi. We want to be on the ground in India to help the Canadian families there,” Reuters quoted Trudeau as saying.

Trudeau had said last week that Canada is still committed to building closer ties with India, despite “credible allegations of the Indian government’s involvement” in the killing of Khalistani terrorist Hardeep Singh Nijjar, Canada-based National Post reported. India has rejected the claims as “absurd” and “motivated”.

Pointing to the increasing influence of India worldwide, Trudeau said that it is “extremely important” that Canada and its allies continue to engage with India.

“India is a growing economic power and important geopolitical player. And as we presented with our Indo-Pacific strategy, just last year, we’re very serious about building closer ties with India,” he had told reporters.

“At the same time, obviously, as a rule of law country, we need to emphasize that India needs to work with Canada to ensure that we get the full facts of this matter,” National Post quoted Trudeau as saying.

Trudeau’s remarks have come amid a diplomatic row between India and Canada which started after the Canadian PM levelled allegations.

Nijjar, a designated terrorist in India, was killed outside a gurdwara in Canada’s Surrey on June 18. India has also expelled a senior Canadian diplomat in a reciprocal move to Canada expelling a senior Indian diplomat.

During a debate in the Canadian Parliament, Trudeau claimed Canada’s national security officials had reasons to believe that “agents of the Indian government” carried out the killing of Nijjar.  India outrightly rejected the claims.

Last week, External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar said that the Canadian attitude towards terrorists, extremist people who openly advocate violence is very permissive.

“This has been an issue of great friction for many years with Canada. But in the last few years, it has come back very much into play because of what we consider to be a very permissive Canadian attitude towards terrorists, extremist people who openly advocate violence. And they have been given operating space in Canada because of the compulsions of Canadian politics.”

Speaking on the India-Canada row in Washington, Jaishankar stated that the Indian diplomats

“…For us, it has certainly been a country where, organized crime from India, mixed with trafficking in people, mixed with secessionism, violence, terrorism– it’s a very toxic combination of issues and people, who have found operating space there.”

“Today, I’m actually in a situation where my diplomats are unsafe going to the embassy, or to the consulate in Canada. They are publicly intimidated. And that has actually compelled me to temporarily suspend even visa operations in Canada,” he added.

Jaishankar said that he also spoke with the US National Security Advisor Jake Sullivan and US State Secretary Antony Blinken about Canada.

“The Canadian PM made some allegations initially privately, and then publicly. And our response to him, both in private and public– what he was alleging was not consistent with our policy. And that if he had, if his government had anything relevant and specific they would like us to look into, we were open to looking at it. Now, that’s where that conversation is at this point of time,” Jaishankar said.

Amid strained ties with Canada, India also issued an advisory for its citizens and those who are travelling to Canada to exercise “utmost caution in view of growing anti-India activities and politically-condoned hate crimes and criminal violence” in the country. (ANI)

India Condemns Disgraceful Incident Of Glasgow Gurudwara

India’s High Commission to the United Kingdom on Saturday said it has reported to authorities in the UK the “disgraceful incident” at the Glasgow Gurudwara where elements from outside Scotland “deliberately disrupted” a planned interaction organised for the Indian High Commissioner Vikram Doraiswami.

“On September 29, 2023, three persons- all from areas outside Scotland-deliberately disrupted a planned interaction organised by the Gurudwara Committee for the community, the High Commissioner and the Consul General of India. This interaction was to discuss community and consular issues”, the High Commission of India, London said in a statement today.

The High Commission further said that it has reported “this disgraceful incident to the Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office (FCDO) and the Metropolitan Police.”

Multiple community organisations including the organisers, comprising senior community leaders, ladies and Committee members and a member of the Scottish Parliament, have formally regretted the incident and have urged the authorities to take action against the culprits, the statement read.

“They were threatened and abused by these elements. In an effort to prevent any potential altercation, the HC and CG decided to leave the premises shortly upon their arrival,” it said.

The Indian Mission also stated that one of the non-local extremist elements attempted to violently force open the High Commissioner’s car door – “a matter that will require suitable police consideration.”

The Indian mission in London also said that due to the quick reaction of one of the organisers, who physically intervened at the car door, “a bigger incident was avoided.”

The statement was released after purported social media videos showed Doraiswami being accosted near the parking area of the gurdwara located on Albert Drive in Glasgow reportedly by pro-Khalistani elements who blocking the Indian envoy from entering the gurudwara.

Government sources earlier today said that India had raised the issue with the United Kingdom foreign office and the police.

“Doraiswami was on Friday stopped by a few radicals from entering a gurdwara in Glasgow. The Indian High Commissioner decided to leave instead of getting into an argument,” the sources had said.

The latest incident comes amid a diplomatic row between India and Canada over the killing of Khalistani terrorist Hardeep Singh Nijjar this June outside a gurudwara in Surrey, British Columbia. (ANI)

Indian Gurdwara

Indian Envoy To UK Stopped From Entering Scotland Gurdwara

Indian High Commissioner to the United Kingdom Vikram Doraiswami was on Friday prevented from entering a gurdwara in Glasgow, Scotland.

According to a purported video posted on the Instagram channel of ‘Sikh Youth UK,’ a man reportedly a pro-Khalistani activist was seen blocking Doraiswami from entering the Glasgow Gurdwara on Albert Drive.

This comes amid a diplomatic row between India and Canada over the killing of Khalistani terrorist Hardeep Singh Nijjar.

“…They are hurting Sikhs in Canada and other places, every Sikh should protest against any Indian Ambassador like we did here in Glasgow,” the man is heard saying in the video.

The ‘Sikh Youth UK’ claims that there is an ongoing ban on Indian officials visiting the gurdwara in their official capacities.

The video shows two men near the High Commissioner’s car in the parking area. One of them is seen attempting to open the car door, which has been locked from the inside. The purported video then shows the high commissioner’s car leaving the gurdwara premises.

The video then shows another man speaking to the camera that this is how any Indian ambassador or any Indian government official who visits the Gurdwara will be treated.

“We know what games they are playing, what’s happening in Canada. The Canadian PM has openly condemned India and expelled Indian diplomats,” he said.

The incident was first reported by the Times of India TOI.

A pro-Khalistan activist told TOI that the Indian High Commissioner was supposed to hold a meeting with the gurdwara committee of the Glasgow Gurdwara on Albert Drive. The activist said: “A few people turned up and told him he is not welcome and he left. There was a slight confrontation. I don’t think the gurdwara committee is too happy about what happened. But Indian officials are not welcome in any gurdwara in the UK.”

“We are fed up with the UK-India collusion. The recent tensions since the Hardeep Singh Nijjar killing have led to British Sikhs being targeted. This is to do with Avtar Singh Khanda and Jagtar Singh Johal too,” he further said.

Meanwhile, a formal reaction from the Indian High Commission in London and the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) on the incident is awaited.

The UK incident comes amid a growing strain in India-Canada ties following Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau’s allegations regarding the Indian government’s involvement in the killing of Khalistani terrorist Hardeep Singh Nijjar.

India has outrightly rejected the claims, calling it “absurd” and “motivated.”

Notably, Canada has yet to provide any public evidence to support the claim about the killing of Nijjar.

Meanwhile, External Affairs Minister Jaishankar has highlighted incidents of threats, violence, and intimidation against Indian diplomats and missions in Canada. He has questioned whether the reaction would have been the same if a similar situation had occurred in any other country.

He further emphasized that the situation in Ottawa should not be normalized.

Addressing a press conference in Washington DC on Friday, S Jaishankar said, “…Our point is that there is today a climate of violence, an atmosphere of intimidation…Just think about it. We have had smoke bombs thrown at the mission. We have had our consulates…violence in front of them. Individuals have been targeted and intimidated. There are posters put up about people”.

The UK has meanwhile said it is in “close touch” with its Canadian partners about serious allegations made by PM Trudeau on India’s link in the alleged assassination of Nijjar.

“We are in close touch with our Canadian partners about these serious allegations,” a UK government spokesperson told ANI.

“It would be inappropriate to comment further during the ongoing investigation by the Canadian authorities,” the official said.

Recently, the United Kingdom’s Security Minister Tom Tugendhat announced new funding to enhance the UK’s capability to tackle ‘pro-Khalistan extremism.’

Tugendhat made the announcement after a meeting with Jaishankar in the national capital on August 10, the British High Commission in India said.

The 95,000-pound investment will enhance the government’s understanding of the threat posed by pro-Khalistan extremism, complementing the joint work already underway between the UK and India through the Joint-Extremism Task Force, the British High Commission said in a statement. (ANI)

Jai Shankar Speaks To Palestine PM

World Is Badly In Need Of Some Form Of Reglobalisation: Jaishankar

External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar on Friday said that a particular model of globalisation has evolved over the past 25 years but the world now is “badly in need of some form of reglobalisation.”

In his address at the Hudson Institute in Washington, DC, Jaishankar said, “If you put it together, I would suggest to you that the world is badly in need of some form of reglobalisation, that globalisation itself is undeniable. It has struck very deep roots.”

He further said, “It has tremendous benefits. Nobody doubts that. But, the particular model of globalisation which has evolved over the last 25 years obviously has a lot of risks inherent in it. And today, how to address those risks and create a safer world is part of the challenge facing the Pacific order.”

On the discussion on India’s role in a New Pacific order, EAM Jaishankar said, “It’s probably, a new idea, something very different to think of India, in terms of, the Pacific region, the Pacific community of nations…We today do much more business to the East of India, than we do to the West of India. We look at our key trade partners. We look at our important economic partners…Now what it has given rise to in the last few years is the concept of Indo-Pacific that too has been readily embraced by many and contested by a few. But, again it’s a concept that has actually gained ground.”

He said that the idea of India making significant contributions to the Indo-Pacific order is something that truly reflects the current global rebalancing.

“So, in some ways what you are seeing today of Indo-Pacific coming together –the idea of India contributing in many ways to Indo-Pacific order is something which reflects really the rebalancing that today is taking place n the world…. rebalancing in which the changed capabilities and positioning and attitudes of the US is a central driving factor…,” Jaishankar said.

“But, also in one in which the rise of China and its implications is a very, very crucial issue,” he added.

Speaking about the ties between the US and India, Jaishankar said that the two nations have always dealt with each other in the past, sometimes not entirely happily but working with each other is an “uncharted territory.”

Jaishankar said, “… India and the United States have never really worked before together. I think that is a very thoughtful observation, because dealing with each other is not the same as working with each other.

“And in the past, we have we have always dealt with each other, sometimes not entirely happily, but working with each other is really uncharted territory. It is a territory which we have both entered in the last few years. And it has required both of us, really, to overcome what my prime minister called the hesitations of history when he spoke to the Congress a few years ago. So, how do we create that ability and the convergences and hopefully the comfort to work together. I think that would be very crucial to the future of the Pacific order,” he added (ANI)

Asian Games: Indian Men’s Badminton Team Assures Historic Medal After 37 Years

The Indian men’s badminton team scripted history by securing a medal at the Asian Games after 37 years as they destroyed Nepal 3-0 in the quarterfinals in Hangzhou on Friday.

On the back of a stunning performance from their shuttlers, the Indian team without breaking a sweat cruised into the semifinals of the 19th Asian Games. Lakshya Sen began it off, Kidambi Shrikanth followed and Mithun Manjunath completed it off, all in straight games without any trouble.
