Modi Writes To Japan PM, Condoles Loss Of Lives In Earthquake

In the wake of the major earthquake in Japan on Monday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi wrote to Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida on Thursday and expressed his condolences to the bereaved families of the deceased.

As per sources, PM Modi told the Japanese PM that he is deeply anguished and concerned to learn about the major earthquake that struck Japan on January 1, 2024.

PM Modi added, “I express my deepest condolence to the bereaved families of those who lost their lives. We stand in solidarity with Japan and its people affected by the disaster.”

PM Modi also said “As a special strategic and global partner, India values its relationship with Japan, and is ready to extend all possible assistance at this hour.”

At least 64 people were killed in the massive earthquake of 7.5 magnitude that struck the Noto Peninsula and surrounding areas in central Japan on Monday, Kyodo News reported. The rubble and severed roads still prevent search and rescue operations in the quake-hit regions.

The earthquake has caused structural damage and fires in the city of Wajima in Ishikawa Prefecture. However, the full extent of the disaster caused by the powerful earthquake remains unknown.

The northern area of the remote Noto Peninsula was restricted access for more than 24 hours after the earthquake, although the Meteorological Agency of Japan cancelled all tsunami advisories along portions of the country’s western coast on Tuesday.

Following a disaster emergency meeting on Tuesday, Prime Minister Fumio Kishida informed the media that the location was no longer accessible due to a wrecked road.

According to fire department officials, 25 buildings, including houses, have collapsed in Wajima City, NHK World reported, adding that firefighters have also been pressed into the ongoing rescue operations across locations.

A total of about 200 buildings, including shops and houses, are believed to have been burned around Asaichi Street, a popular tourist spot. The United States Geological Survey reported that the earthquake occurred on the Noto Peninsula of Ishikawa prefecture around 4.10 pm (local time), at a depth of 10 kilometres (6 miles). (ANI)

INDI Alliance Made Temples, Festivals Mediums For Looting: Modi

Launching a series of attacks on the INDIA bloc, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday said that the INDI alliance knows only one thing, that is, to hurt people’s faith and they made temples and festivals a medium for looting.

The Prime Minister said the Sabarimala mismanagement issue due to the sudden surge of pilgrims in December was unfortunate and this is proof of the inability of the state government.

“INDI alliance only knows one thing, INDI alliance keeps hurting our faith, they made our temples and festivals, mediums for loot. The kind of politics that is being played with ‘Thrissur Pooram’ is unfortunate. The kind of mismanagement that has come to light in Sabarimala, devotees are facing a lot of inconvenience. This is the proof of inability of the state government here,” PM Modi said in his address at the ‘Sthree Shakti Modikkoppam’ event at Thekkinkadu in Kerala.

Hitting out at the INDIA bloc, the Prime Minister said that the alliance wants full freedom in Kerala for looting.

“Today in the country, big roads are being made, modern airports are being made but the government of INDI alliance doesn’t let any work happen here because they oppose Modi. INDI alliance wants full freedom in Kerala for looting. Here, the play that is happening due to the gold smuggling is not hidden from anyone,” he said.

“They don’t want anybody to question them regarding the funds that are being received from the Central government for poor people and infrastructure so they try to hinder the schemes by the Central government,” PM Modi said.

Lauding the guarantees given by him, the Prime Minister said, “In the last 10 years, we took a lot of initiatives to make women’s lives easier. We gave 10 crores Ujjwala gas connections, this benefit was received because of Modi’s guarantee. We gave water through a pipe to sisters of 11 crore families. How did this happen, because of Modi’s guarantee”.

Meanwhile, attacking the Left parties and Congress in Kerala, PM Modi alleged that governments led by LDF and UDF in the state considered “nari shakti” as weak and that he had fulfilled his promise to give women their rights with ‘Nari Shakti Adhiniyam’ which is now a law to provide reservation to women in parliament and legislative assemblies.

“After independence, LDF and UDF governments considered ‘Nari Shakti’ as weak… the bill to provide reservation to women in Lok Sabha and assemblies was not passed for long but Modi gave you the guarantee to give you your rights and I fulfilled it…till Congress and Left alliance governments were there in the country, Muslim sisters were suffering because of triple talaq but Modi gave the guarantee to give freedom from it and fulfilled it with sincerity,” he said.

Prime Minister Modi shared the stage with the President of the Indian Olympics Association PT Usha, actor Shobana, singer Vaikom Vijayalakshmi and others in Thrissur. (ANI)

Rahul Gandhi Hit-And-Run Law

Shahenshah Has Enacted A Law Against Drivers: Rahul Over Hit-And-Run Law

Calling Prime Minister Narendra Modi a ‘Shahenshah’ (Emperor), Rahul Gandhi on Tuesday lashed out at the Centre and said that the recently passed Bharatiya Nyay Sanhita (BNS) bill contains a provision that will affect the drivers of the nation and can have fatal consequences.

Under the Bharatiya Nyay Sanhita (BNS), which replaced the Indian Penal Code, drivers who cause a serious road accident by negligent driving and run away without informing the police or any official from the administration can face punishment of up to 10 years or a fine of Rs 7 lakh.

Earlier, the punishment in such cases was two years in the IPC.

In a post on X, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi said,” The insistence on making laws without discussion with the affected class and without dialogue with the opposition is a continuous attack on the soul of democracy. While more than 150 MPs were suspended, Shahenshah in Parliament enacted a law against drivers, the backbone of the Indian economy, which could have fatal consequences.”

Rahul Gandhi further stated that the government has forgotten the difference between an order of an emperor and justice.

“Throwing hard-working class with limited earnings into the harsh legal furnace can badly affect their lives. Also, misuse of this law can lead to ‘recovery mechanisms’ along with organized corruption. The government which runs democracy with the whip has forgotten the difference between ’emperor’s directive’ and ‘justice’,” Rahul Gandhi said.

Several transporters and auto-driver associations across India are protesting against the new law on hit-and-run incidents.

Private transport operators claim the law discourages drivers and may lead to unjust punishments. They claim that the drivers could be subject to mob violence when they attempt to transport the injured to hospitals and demand the repeal of the law.

On the protest by transport associations, and drivers against the new law on hit-and-run cases, All India Motor and Goods Transport Association President, Rajendra Kapoor said, “Our only demand from the govt is that the decision should have been taken after having consultations with our stakeholders. There was no discussion with anyone on this, and no one was asked about this. There should have been prior meetings and consultations.”

Earlier, private bus and truck drivers on Monday enforced a ‘chakka jam’ (traffic jam) across the state of Madhya Pradesh in protest against a new hit-and-run law.

A similar protest also broke out in the Chhattisgarh capital, Raipur, where bus drivers staged a demonstration against the new central law. (ANI)

Stalin Urges TN Floods To Be Tagged As National Disaster

Saying that he was deeply pained and moved by the plight of the flood-hit people of Tamil Nadu, in the aftermath of the devastating tropical cyclone ‘Michaung’, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday assured that the Centre stands with them at this difficult time and would extend every possible support to the state government to help bring them back on track.

Addressing a public event in Tiruchirappalli on Tuesday, PM Modi said, “2023 may be behind us now but the last few weeks of the year gone by were especially difficult for the people of Tamil Nadu. Heavy rainfall and flooding in the aftermath of cyclone ‘Michaung’ claimed many lives. There was also a significant loss of property. I was deeply moved seeing the desperate straits that the people were in because of the unrelenting rainfall and flooding after the storm. However, I am here to assure each and every one of you that our government (at the Centre) stands with you at this difficult time. We are providing every possible support to the state government and are willing to do more,” PM Modi said.

Significantly, during his address at the event, Chief Minister MK Stalin urged PM Modi to declare the Tamil Nadu floods as a national calamity and commit more central funds for the relief and rehabilitation of the marooned and affected residents.

“The floods in Chennai and our southern districts have not only destroyed public infrastructure but have also thrown countless lives haywire. I would request the central government to declare the floods as a national disaster,” CM Stalin said from the podium.

Remembering the late actor and DMDK president Vijayakanth, PM Modi said he would place national interest above everything else.

“Just a few days ago, we lost Thiru Vijayakanth. He was a Captain (nickname), not only in the world of cinema but also in politics. He won the hearts of the people through his work in films. As a politician, he always put the national interest above everything else. I bow in tribute to him,” PM Modi said.

Also paying glowing tributes to the late celebrated agricultural scientist and the man behind India’s ‘green revolution’, Dr MS Swaminathan, PM Modi said the former was instrumental in ensuring food security for the country.

“We lost him last year as well,” PM Modi noted.

The state government and the Centre have jointly mobilised a massive rescue and relief operation to help the flood-affected people of the state.

Earlier, PM Modi assured full central support to Tamil Nadu and deputed Union Minister Nirmala Sitharaman to take stock of the situation.

In a post on X, Chief Minister MK Stalin also expressed gratitude for Prime Minister Modi’s prompt response to the distressed, flood-hit locals.

“Prime Minister @narendramodi called me to inquire about the unprecedented floods in Southern Tamil Nadu, immediately after #CycloneMichaung,” CM Stalin stated in a post earlier.

The CM said he also apprised Prime Minister Modi of the urgent need for financial support from the Union government to address the mounting challenges faced by the state.

“I have explained to him the massive rescue and relief efforts undertaken by the state government, despite resource constraints, and sought immediate financial support from the Union government,” he added in his post.

In response to the CM’s plea, PM Modi assured full support to help the state overcome the twin calamities. (ANI)

Prime Minister Modi also laid the foundation stone for important road development projects.

These include the construction of a 31-kilometer-long, four-lane road from Mugaiyur to Marakkanam of NH 332A.

I Urge Youths To Explore AI Tools: Modi

Prime Minister Narendra Modi, addressing the nation in the year’s last ‘Mann Ki Baat’ episode before the country heads into the high-octane election year, pointed out how innovative technology, such as artificial intelligence (AI), has brought about convenience in different sectors of society.

Recalling the Kashi-Tamil Sangmam event in Uttar Pradesh, where the indigenous AI-powered Bhashini app ensured proper translation of his words from Hindi to Tamil with ease, he said that the people who participated in the Kashi-Tamil Sangamam were elated by this experiment.

“A few days ago, there was an experiment in Kashi that I would certainly like to share with Mann Ki Baat listeners. You must be aware that thousands of people have reached Kashi from Tamil Nadu to take part in Kashi-Tamil Sangamam. There, for the first time, I used ‘Bhashini’ the Artificial intelligence (AI) tool to communicate with them from a public platform. I was addressing in Hindi from the Dais but thanks to the AI tool Bhashini, the people of Tamil Nadu who were present there were listening to my address in Tamil, translated in real-time,” PM Modi said at the 108th episode of Mann Ki Baat on Sunday.

The PM further said that technology is a new beginning and expressed hope that it will help his voice reach the masses more easily.

“That day is not far, when a speech would be delivered in any language, but the audience would be able to listen to the same speech in their language in real time. The same feature would also be available in movies in the future. In which the audience in a theatre hall would get to listen to real-time translations with the help of AI.

He added that such technology would bring ease of functioning in different sectors, including the judiciary and education, once it was implemented there.

“A huge transformation will take place in our schools, hospitals and courts when this technology is extensively used,” he said.

The Prime Minister further urged the young generation to explore AI tools related to real-time translation in a bigger way and also make them 100 per cent full proof.

Earlier on December 17, a real-time Artificial Intelligence-based translation tool was used during Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s speech at Kashi Tamil Sangamam in Varanasi.

This was done through ‘Bhashini’ for those in the audience who understood Tamil. ‘Bhashini’ is an AI-led language translation system that enables people to speak in their own language while talking to speakers of other Indian languages.

Meanwhile, BJP National President JP Nadda, along with Uttar Pradesh CM Yogi Adityanath, heard PM Modi’s Mann Ki Baat programme in Lucknow.

The 107rd edition of ‘Mann Ki Baat’ was aired on November 26, when PM Modi asked the citizens not to organise weddings abroad and urged people of the country to hold wedding celebrations in the country.

The popular programme on All India Radio, Prime Minister Mann Ki Baat, was started on October 3, 2014 and is broadcast on the last Sunday of every month at 11 am. The 30-minute programme completed its 100 episodes on April 30, 2023.

The Mann Ki Baat programme is a platform where the Prime Minister communicates directly with the people of the country. Through this programme, the Prime Minister informs and inspires the people of the country on various topics.

Mann ki Baat has impacted all sections of society, who have been inspired to contribute towards fulfilling the great goals he has set for the nation. (ANI)

Cleanliness Campaign Should Be Conducted At Every Temple From Makar Sankranti: Modi

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday said that a cleanliness campaign should be conducted one week before the consecration of Ram Mandir on January 22 at all the pilgrimage sites across the country.

PM Modi inaugurated various development projects in Ayodhya on Saturday, where he urged people to avoid reaching Ram Mandir on January 22 so that the people involved in arrangements here do not get troubled.

“The people have to make a resolution to make Ayodhya city the cleanest city in India. This clean Ayodhya is the responsibility of the people here. For this, we have to take every step together. Today I would like to say to all the pilgrimage sites and temples of the country that one week before the construction of the Ram Mandir, a big campaign of cleanliness should be conducted at the pilgrimage places of the entire country from January 14 i.e., from the day of Makar Sakranti,” PM Modi said in Ayodhya.

“This campaign should be run in every temple in every corner of the country,” he asserted.

Earlier today, addressing a public meeting in Ayodhya after inaugurating the airport, Ayodhya Dham Junction Railway Station and unveiling development projects of over Rs 15,700 crore here, the Prime Minister said that the campaign for making India a developed country is getting a new speed from Ayodhya.

“Whatever be the country in the world, if it has to reach new heights of development, it will have to take care of its heritage. Commendable Step By Modi: Smriti On Expansion Of Indian Oil Bottling Plant In Amethi

Union Minister Smriti Irani and Lok Sabha MP from Amethi on Saturday hailed Prime Minister Narendra Modi over the expansion of the oil bottling plant in Amethi.

Speaking to the media after inaugurating the LPG bottling plant in Trisundi, BJP MP from Amethi said, “PM Modi expanded the Indian Oil bottling plant in Amethi. With a budget of Rs 160 crores, the capacity of this plant has been increased to six times its original capacity. This is another commendable step by PM Modi to boost and strengthen the local economy.”

She also said that from 2019 to September 2023, more than one lakh small businessmen in Amethi have been beneficiaries of bank loans worth Rs 1600 crores.

“Farmers, during the same period, have benefitted from bank loans worth Rs 4500 crores,” added Irani.

Taking a veiled attack on the previous Congress-led United Progressive Alliance government, Amethi MP accused that former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh was “remote controlled” by Congress leader Sonia Gandhi.

“The worrying part was that the reins of power in the Amethi-Rae Bareli area were in the hands of women ( Congress leader Sonia Gandhi). They (Congress) run the Prime Minister through remote control,” Smriti Irani said, taking a dig at the Congress, which won several elections from Amethi during 1980-2014.

The remarks were made at a public meeting on the third day of her tour at Trishundi village in Amethi.

“But they (Congress) deprived 3,92000 families of toilets,” she alleged.

“As a protector and brother, PM Modi enhanced the respect of the daughters of poor families. The more he is being thanked, the less it is,” she added.

Amethi used to be a Congress stronghold in Uttar Pradesh, where Rahul Gandhi lost to Smriti Irani by a margin of around 55,000 votes in the 2019 elections. (ANI)
