Farmer Leader Pandher Announces ‘Tractor March’ On Dec 16

Farmer leader Sarwan Singh Pandher announced that a tractor march would be organised outside Punjab on December 16, followed by a ‘Rail Roko’ in Punjab on December 18. The announcement came hours after a ‘Jathha’ of 101 farmers, blocked by the police at the Shambhu border due to security concerns, was withdrawn for the day.

Pandher claimed that 17 farmers were injured after the police used tear gas and water cannons to disperse protesters at the Shambhu Border. He further alleged that several farmers are in serious condition and accused the authorities of negligence in providing treatment at the hospital.

Speaking to ANI at the Shambhu Border, Pandher said, “The Indian government, the fifth-largest economy in the world, used force against 101 farmers. Chemical water was thrown at us using cannons, bombs were hurled, and tear gas shells were fired. Seventeen farmers have been injured, many of whom are in serious condition, and they are not being given proper treatment in the hospital. We urge the Punjab government to ensure adequate treatment.”

“On December 16, a tractor march will be organised outside Punjab, and on December 18, we have called for a ‘Rail Roko’ in Punjab. We appeal to all Punjabis to participate in large numbers,” he added.

Responding to a query, Pandher criticised the opposition for not effectively addressing farmers’ concerns in the ongoing winter session of Parliament. He specifically accused Congress leader Rahul Gandhi of failing to fulfil his promises to the farmers.

“The opposition should not shirk its responsibility by merely issuing statements. They should highlight our agenda and stall Parliament on our issues just as they do for other matters. Rahul Gandhi is not raising our concerns in Parliament as he assured us he would,” Pandher said.

Earlier in the day, security forces used tear gas and water cannons to disperse the ‘Jathha’ of farmers marching towards Delhi (‘Delhi Kooch’) from the Shambhu border. Despite the police barricades and heavy deployment, the farmers remained resolute in their protest.

The ‘Jathha’ of 101 farmers was stopped from entering the national capital at the Shambhu border point in Haryana on Saturday afternoon. Tensions arose at the protest site as the farmers attempted to move forward, but police cited security concerns and the need to regulate the movement of protesters into Delhi.

Farmers appealed to security forces to allow them to continue their demonstration peacefully. A farmer leader, addressing the police through barricades, said, “SP Sahab, we want to march to Delhi peacefully. We request you not to block our protest. Please give us the road. Our voice should not be suppressed by these iron and stone barriers.”

In response, the Ambala Superintendent of Police said, “If you want to go to Delhi, you must obtain proper permission. Once you have it, we will allow you to proceed. There was a hearing in the Supreme Court yesterday. Instructions have been given to hold a meeting, and the next date is December 18. We appeal to you to sit here peacefully and follow the rules.”

Police presence at the border was significantly increased after the farmers announced their fresh attempt to march towards Delhi. As the protest gains momentum, farmers are intensifying their demonstrations to press the government into addressing their demands. (ANI)

‘Govt Can’t Make Farmers Protest Fail,’ says Farmer Leader Sarwan Singh Pandher

Farmer leader Sarwan Singh Pandher appealed to the residents of Punjab and Haryana to reach the Khanauri and Shambhu border in large numbers as the farmers’ protest completed ten months.

Speaking to ANI, Pandher said “I appeal to the residents of Punjab and Haryana to reach the Khanauri and Shambhu border in large numbers as our protest has completed 10 months. The government agencies are trying to create a confusion among people and are spreading among the people that the protest cannot be won. Haryana MP Ram Chander Jangra is making irresponsible statements on the protest and I urge the BJP President JP Nadda to expel him from the party or take action against him and he should apologise for his remarks made… “

Further, the farmer leader said that their movement is for the people of India and that the BJP could not make the farmers protest fail.

“The people of India are the largest. The BJP is forgetting that they cannot make the farmers protest fail. We will show the ‘kala chehra’ of the BJP government. the open letter that we have written to the government has left them worried. People are joining the protest in large numbers which is why the BJP government is more worried…the 101 farmers are ready to give their lives for the country. we will fight against this torture the government with patience.

Earlier on December 12, Pandher had slammed the BJP-led central government and accused it of not fulfilling the promises made to the farmers. He added that the protesting farmers at the Shambhu border have not received any proposal from the Centre for negotiations on their demand.

“It has been 305 days since Delhi Andolan 2.0 started and seven days since the ‘Amar Anshan’. The ministers are making irresponsible statements,” Pandher told ANI. (ANI)

Farmer Leader Sarwan Pandher Calls ‘Rail Roko’ Protest Successful

Farmer leader Sarwan Singh Pandher on Monday claimed that the nationwide ‘Rail Roko’ protest by the farmer unions to press for a host of demands was ‘successful’.

The ‘rail roko’ protest was staged on Sunday, between 12 noon and 4 pm, amid the ‘Delhi Chalo’ call by the agitating farmers.

Speaking to ANI on Monday, the farmer leader said, “A rail blockade was successfully enforced across six states yesterday. It was our most successful programme since we launched the protests. As for our strategy or roadmap going forward, we will hold a meeting soon and flesh out the details. The strategy will be decided by both our forums in the meeting.”

Farmers, who have been protesting for almost a month now after putting forward a host of demands that include a legal guarantee on MSP for their produce, withdrawal of police cases and loan write-offs, among others, squatted on railway tracks at many places in Punjab on Sunday as part of the ‘rail roko’ protest called by the Samyukta Kisan Morcha (Non-Political) and the Kisan Mazdoor Morcha.

Farmers blocked several railway tracks, including the one at Jalandhar Cantt.

The protesting farmers have been staying put at the Shambhu and the Khanauri border points between Punjab and Haryana after their ‘Delhi Chalo’ march was stopped by security personnel on February 13.

Among the other demands put forward by the protesters are pensions for farmers and farm labourers, debt waivers and no hike in electricity tariff.

During the last round of talks with the farmers’ delegation, which ended past midnight on February 18, the panel of three Union ministers made an offer to buy five crops–moong dal, urad dal, tur dal, maize, and cotton–from farmers at MSP for five years through central agencies.

However, the protesting farmers turned down the offer and returned to their protest sites. (ANI)

Farmers Halt ‘Dilli Chalo’ March For Two Days

The General Secretary of Punjab Kisan Mazdoor Sangharsh Committee, Sarwan Singh Pandher, said on Thursday that they have suspended their ‘Dilli Chalo’ protest march for two days to take stock of the ongoing situation on the Shambhu border in Haryana and further decision will be taken accordingly.

The farmer leader condemned the Central Government’s action against the protestors through para-military forces injuring hundreds.

“We had earlier announced that our movement will be completely peaceful but if unrest came up, then we had asked all the youth to stop proceeding and the leaders themselves had decided to take it forward from there. After the talks started, the central government ran away from the talks, then we started getting inauspicious news from Khanuri. This Shubhakaran Singh, his age is 23 years, was shot in his head and three more were seriously injured, so in this kind of situation, to continue the talks. I did not think that we would be able to succeed. Looking at the entire situation, as the centre has fled,” Pandher said while speaking to ANI on Thursday.

“For now, this movement is in a halt for two days. Whatever is going on, it will continue here only. After taking stock of the situation of all the disgusting things that are going on, we will take further decision keeping in mind all these things,” he said.

Pandher further alleged that the security forces attacked the farmers who were moving bare hands and also destroyed their vehicles.

“Farmer leaders have also moved forward, we were moving peacefully, there were few farmer leaders before us, there was tremendous shelling on us, rubber bullets were fired, then we went ahead, then the same was done again. One farmer from Haryana, was put in a sack, his legs were broken and thrown in the fields and other things are also coming in front of us,” he said.

“As we are moving forward with such bare hands, it is still not allowing us to move forward, so the whole country and the world are watching the face of this government, they are getting to know about it and apart from this, the police force in Ghanori moved forward, they moved forward and attacked people, over 30 tractor trolleys have been destroyed, vehicles have been destroyed. this is a condemnable action, the way the Government of India is acting,” the farmer leader remarked.

“It is completely clear that bullets were fired, then you were also on Shambhu, you have seen that we have made complete arrangements when we were remaining completely peaceful, the leader was still giving a speech, then the first tear gas was thrown at us,” he added.

The farmer leader urged the farmers and also people from across the country to come forward and protest against the Prime Minister Narendra Modi-led central government.

“This kind of thing is not right, we would like to tell the entire country, whether it is Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, Karnataka, Bihar, Orissa, South India, the whole of India. India should rise, protest against the Modi government, it is a big issue for the whole country, MSP legal guarantee,” he said.

He also criticised the Punjab government and the opposition parties in the country including the Congress for not ‘clarifying’ their stance.

“I had said that whatever opposition party there is, currently there are 13 MPs in Rajya Sabha from Punjab, I am not able to see any of their statements. If the Modi government brings a one-day session in the Parliament for the MSP Legal Guarantee Act, then we farmers will cast their votes in favour of MSP. All the opposition parties in the country have not yet clarified what they say,” Pandher said.

The farmer leader further alleged that the central government is trying all ways “to defame the movement”.

“The agencies by the government are using well-planned methods. The kind of people that are being sent, and the way they cut off the media, means that the entire government is trying every possible way to defame the movement. We all were farmers and labourers in the country. This movement has become so big, that it is very important to identify the people who are being sent by the government to handle it and whatever happens, it should not happen again. This government is using force on the farmers and labourers of the country. This matter will have to be answered in the future,” he said.

He also urged to find a solution to the farmers’ demands sooner so that the ongoing ‘unfortunate situation’ can end.

“What suggestions or proposals do you put forward? Will you still ask for a meeting or what do you want to say? Look, the doors are open for the government, we have said that even today we will appeal to the Prime Minister that he intervenes, and talks should continue making the MSP legal guarantee law and on other demands. If they are ready to make a legal guarantee law, then this can end. There can be a happy solution to this issue,” the farmer leader said.

“On Shambhu, the circumstances are absolutely under control except for a few incidents and our people, farmers and labourers, are in complete control. We are again saying that the government sends such people so that our movement gets defamed,” he added.

Pandher reiterated the farmers’ earlier demand that the Prime Minister intervene in the matter and find a solution for the same.

“Now Haryana Force has filed an illegitimate FIR against our people. All the police personnel of Haryana are doing this, here there is a military force, they have entered the territory of Punjab, see here, Men of Haryana’s CID are roaming on the Shambu border, if this happens, then it is the use of force wrongfully. The movement is big and the farmers are not going to give in to their point of view and the farmers and farm laborers are not going to bow down if you file cases. We say that the Prime Minister should come forward and solve all the issues,” the farmer leader said.

Opposition leaders earlier criticized the Centre for the death of a youth at the Khanauri Border crossing in Sangrur district, Punjab, during the ongoing farmers’ protests.

Punjab CM Bhagwant Mann said that he was saddened by the death of a young farmer on the Punjab-Haryana border and asserted that stringent action would be taken against those responsible for it.

Delhi Chief Minister and Aam Aadmi Party chief, Arvind Kejriwal asked if was it for this day that we fought for independence.

Congress leader Partap Singh Bajwa demanded that an FIR should be registered against the Home Minister of Haryana.

Karnataka CM Siddaramaiah condemned the death of the youth protestor.

Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav called the centre to make decisions to eliminate the problems of farmers.

However, State BJP president Sunil Jakhar said in a post on X, formerly Twitter, on Tuesday that it was “most unfortunate” that the negotiations between the farmers and the central government had “not fructified”. The fourth round of talks between the farmer union leaders and central government ministers ended on Monday with the leaders rejecting the government’s offers. (ANI)

All This Can Be Ended If Centre Makes A Law On MSP: Farmers’ Leader Pandher

General Secretary of Punjab Kisan Mazdoor, Sarwan Singh Pandher, on Wednesday reiterated the demand for a legal guarantee of minimum support price (MSP) and assured a ‘peaceful’ approach going ahead.

The farmers’ leader emphasized that all farmers would not proceed together in the ‘Dilli Chalo’ march; instead, only the farmer leaders would march towards the national capital.

“We have decided that no farmer, youth will march forward. Leaders will march ahead. We will not attack our Jawans. We will go peacefully. All this can be ended if they (central govt) make a law on MSP,” Sarwan Singh Pandher said while speaking to ANI.

Pandher conveyed a plea to the nation’s youth to carry forward the cause peacefully, even if the farm leaders ‘die’ while protesting. “Even if we die today, we urge the youth of the country to take this ahead peacefully,” he said.

Earlier today, the farmers’ leader urged Prime Minister Narendra Modi-led central government to discuss their issues or allow farmers to proceed to Delhi to hold a protest peacefully.

“We tried our best, attended meetings, and every point was discussed. Now the decision has to be taken by the Centre. The Prime Minister should come forward and accept our demands. Rs 1.5-2 lakh crore is not a very big amount…about 60 per cent of the farmers are dependent on it. If farm labourers are added, it constitutes 80 per cent of the country’s population, then our best effort is to remain peaceful,” Sarwan Singh Pandher said while addressing a press conference.

After the fourth round of talks with the Centre, the farmer leaders resumed the ‘Delhi Chalo’ march on Wednesday morning.

The non-political Samyukta Kisan Morcha and the Kisan Mazdoor Morcha have given a “Delhi Chalo” call, urging the BJP-led Centre to accede to their demands.

The farmers have raised various demands including an ordinance on ensuring legal guarantees for MSPs and loan waivers.

Commencing their march to the national capital on Tuesday, farmers from Punjab faced hindrance from security personnel at the Shambhu and Khanauri border points, situated between Punjab and Haryana.

The protesting farmers have been camping at the Shambhu border near Ambala since the start of the march on Tuesday, February 13. (ANI)
