Allan Border Reveals He Has Parkinson’s

Former Australia captain Allan Border revealed that he has Parkinson’s disease, a progressive nervous system disorder that affects movement.

Border, who turns 68 in July, said he was diagnosed with this disease in 2016.
“I walked into the neurosurgeon’s and he said straight up, ‘I am sorry to tell you but you have got Parkinson’s’. Just the way you walked in. Your arms straight down by your side, hanging not swinging.’ He could just tell,” said Border telling News Corp as quoted by ESPNCricinfo and Sydney Morning Herald.

“I am a pretty private person and I did not want people to feel sorry for me. Whether people care you do not know. But I know there will come a day when people will notice.”

“I get the feeling I am a hell of a lot better off than most. At the moment I am not scared, not about the immediate future anyway. I am 68. If I make 80, that will be a miracle. I have got a doctor friend and I said if I make 80, that will be a miracle.”

“No way am I going to get another 100, that is for sure. I will just slip slowly into the west,” concluded the batter.

Border played 156 Test matches for Aussies between 1978-1994. He scored 11,174 runs at an average of 50.56. He scored 27 centuries and 63 half-centuries in Tests, with the best score of 205.

He also played 273 ODIs, scoring 6,524 runs at an average of 30.62. He scored three centuries and 39 half-centuries, with the best score of 127*.

He also took 39 Test wickets and 73 scalps in the 50-over format with his useful spin bowling.

He also led Australia to their first-ever Cricket World Cup title in 1987. During that tournament, he scored 183 runs in eight matches at an average of over 22 with a fifty. He also took six wickets. (ANI)

T20 WC: Kohli 28 Runs Away From This Career-Defining Milestone

Former India captain and star batter Virat Kohli are just inches away from adding another record to his tally.

Kohli will need just 28 runs to overtake ICC Hall of Famer Mahela Jayawardena as the most prolific run-scorer across T20 World Cups when he takes on South Africa in Perth on Sunday.
With 989 runs already scored throughout all T20 World Cups, Kohli needs 28 more runs to surpass all previous record-holders. Mahela Jayawardena, a former captain of Sri Lanka, currently owns the record with 1016 runs.

Despite a lagging start to the year, the 33-year-old found his rhythm in the Asia Cup and in the bilateral series matches against Australia and South Africa that preceded the competition. He also got off to a fast start in the eagerly anticipated match against Pakistan at the Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG) in front of over 90,000 spectators in the ongoing ICC T20 World Cup 2022.

Australian legend and former Indian head coach Greg Chappell on Saturday said that Virat Kohli’s innings of 82* against Pakistan in their ICC T20 World Cup 2022 match at Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG) legitimized the shorter format as an art form and added that late spin great Shane Warne would have been proud of star batter’s knock had he been alive.

Indian student stabbed In Oz

Indian authorities are in close touch with local authorities in Australia and with the family of the student who was stabbed multiple times in Sydney and have requested expediting travel documents and visas for his family members to travel to Australia.

“We’ve knowledge of the incident. As per our information, he’s in hospital and under treatment. Our High Commission in Canberra and Consulate in Sydney is in close touch with local authorities. We’re in contact with the family, ” Ministry of External Affairs spokesperson Arindam Bagchi said during a weekly media briefing here today.
Bagchi said that some of the officials from India had met the injured student in the hospital in Sydney and “we have extended our consular services.”

“We have also come to know that a suspect was taken into custody. Australian authorities will give you more details on the investigation. Our expectation is that it’s seen seriously and action taken against the perpetrators,” the spokesperson said.

The 28-year-old student, Shubham Garg who hails from Agra and is pursuing his doctorate in Mechanical engineering from the University of NSW, was reportedly stabbed multiple times in Sydney’s Artamon by 27-year-old Daniel Norwood, who according to local media reports has been arrested and is in the custody of the Australian Police.

The Indian mission in Australia is providing consular assistance to Garg, who is in “serious but stable” condition after undergoing surgery at a local hospital.

“The Indian Consulate in Sydney has provided consular assistance to the individual,” the Australian High Commission in New Delhi said adding that it assists with the facilitation of a visa for a family member of the injured student.

The accused Daniel Norwood was arrested and taken to Chatswood Police Station where he was charged with one count of attempted murder, reported local media outlet The Australia Today.

Quoting local media reports the outlet said that the incident occurred around 10.30 pm on October 6, when Garg was walking along the Pacific Highway on his way back to his residence.

Garg suffered multiple stabbing injuries on his face, chest, and abdomen. A nearby resident took Garg to Royal North Shore Hospital where he underwent surgery. Garg remains in a “serious but stable condition,” as per the media report.

Following the incident, the North Shore Police Area Command detectives formed Strike Force Prosy to investigate the incident. Later, a search warrant was executed on a home on the Pacific Highway at Greenwich at about 3.40 pm on October 9.

The suspect Norwood was arrested at the scene and to further investigate the matter, the police seized a number of items from the home. The items were sent for forensic examination.

Norwood appeared in Hornsby Local Court however he was denied bail. He continues to remain in custody with the next court appearance on December 14, 2022.

As per reports, Norwood allegedly threatened Garg while demanding cash and his phone. Garg refused and was allegedly stabbed a number of times in the abdomen. The assailant then fled from the crime scene, reported Australia Today.

Garg arrived in Australia in September this year to pursue his Ph.D. in Mechanical engineering from the University of NSW. He has completed his master’s degree at IIT Madras. (ANI)
