Cong MLA Tipu Sultan

Cong MLA Promises 100-ft Statue Of Tipu Sultan In Mysuru

Karnataka Congress MLA Tanveer Sait on Thursday promised a 100 feet statue of Tipu Sultan in Srirangapatna of Karnataka’s Mysuru.

Sait, who was elected MLA from Narasimharaja constituency, said the statue would stand as a symbol of the “true history” of Tipu Sultan for the coming generations. Claiming that the history around the warrior has been “distorted” by the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party.
“A 100-feet-tall statue of Tipu Sultan will be erected in Mysuru or Srirangapatna which will stand as a symbol of the actual history around him. The BJP government has been distorting the history around Tipu Sultan and is bent on running his legacy down. Hence, there was an urgent need to build this statue,” Sait said while taking part in the Tipu Kannada Rajyotsava in Mysuru on Thursday.

He said, “Despite the ban on erecting idols in Islam, I will still erect a statue of Tipu, to tell the truth to the next generations.”

Former chief minister Siddaramaiah also reacted to the announcement, claiming that the BJP was busy distorting the history around the 18th-century warrior.

“Why can’t the statue of Tipu Sultan be built? Does he not deserve a statue? The BJP always distorts history. One should remember what they said about Narayan Guru, Ambedkar and others. They always twist and falsify facts,” Siddaramaiah said.

Popularly known as the Tiger of Mysore, Tipu Sultan has been the subject of controversy in the state, especially since 2015 when the BJP and the Congress fought over the need to celebrate the 18th-century ruler’s birthday.

During the Congress rule in 2017, former chief minister Siddaramaiah announced the celebration of Tipu Jayanti on November 10.

However, in 2018, Uttara Kannada MP and then Union minister Ananthkumar Hegde condemned the state government’s decision to celebrate Tipu Sultan’s birth anniversary.

According to documented history, Tipu Sultan fought against the British and died in 1799 while defending his capital Srirangapatna (present-day Mandya).

The celebration of the 18th-century ruler’s birth anniversary had pitted the BJP against the Congress, with several party leaders condemning the grand old party.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday unveiled the ‘Statue of Prosperity’, the 108-feet bronze statue of Bengaluru founder Nadaprabhu Kempegowda.

The statue has been built to commemorate the contribution of Nadaprabhu Kempegowda, the founder of the city, towards the growth of Bengaluru.

“Conceptualized and sculpted by Ram V Sutar of Statue of Unity fame, 98 tonnes of bronze and 120 tonnes of steel have gone into the making of this statue,” the PMO said. (ANI)

Owaisi Condemns Deaths In Sambhal

Tipu Sultan Scared British Then, Now Their Slaves:Owaisi

All India Majlis-E-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) Asaduddin Owaisi slammed the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) over the renaming of the train connecting Bengaluru and Mysuru from Tipu Express to Wodeyar Express and said that they can never erase Tipu Sultan’s legacy.

Notably, the Railways has renamed Tipu Express, which plies between Mysuru and Bengaluru, as Wodeyar Express but AIMIM Chief while talking to ANI said that BJP could have started another train to be named after Wodeyar.
“BJP government renamed Tippu Express to Wodeyar Express. Tipu irks BJP just because he waged three wars against its British masters. But, BJP will never be able to erase Tipu’s legacy,” Owaisi tweeted.

Taking a dig at BJP, he said, “Tipu scared the British while alive and scares British slaves even now.”

“If you wanted to name a train after Tipu Sultan, then you should have started another train. Tipu was not one of those royals who sided with the British like some who betrayed the Rani of Jhansi and now their descendants are in ministerial positions,” Owaisi further said.

The AIMIM Chief further tweeted a portrait of Tipu, which he claimed was on the original illustrated copy of the Constitution of India.

Earlier today, Owaisi had claimed that the “dignity” of Muslims in India is lesser than a “streetside dog” while referring to the viral video in which police officials were seen flogging Muslim men publicly earlier this week.

“You could have taken them to the police station. But you chose to rip off their esteem and hit them directly on the streets. In a nation of 133 crores where 30 crores Muslims live, the dignity of a Muslim is lesser than a streetside dog,” he added.

“Every day there is more evidence of mass radicalization. Floggings and mob violence by cops have become common. Targeted violence against Muslims is treated as ‘justice’. This is the reality of Modi’s Vishwaguru/New India/5G/$5 Trillion Ton economy,” Owaisi wrote in a tweet.

He also reacted to RSS Chief Mohan Bhagwat’s comments on a comprehensive population policy.

“Don’t fret. The Muslim population is not increasing. It’s rather falling… Who’s using condoms the most? We are. Mohan Bhagwat won’t speak on this,” Owaisi said.

On October 5, the RSS chief inaugurated the annual Dussehra celebrations and stressed the application of the population policy equally to ensure that the rising population do not become a burden but can be used as a resource. (ANI)
