Dark Cloud Hanging Over JD(U) No Way Back For Nitish To NDA: Giriraj

Weighing in on the big churn in the JD(U) on Friday, which saw Lalan Singh stepping down as the party’s national chairman and Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar returning to the top post, Union Minister Giriraj Singh on Saturday said there was a dark cloud hanging over the ruling party in the state.

Speaking to ANI on Saturday, the senior BJP leader reiterated his earlier statement that all doors to Nitish’s return to the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) were closed.

To a specific question on whether the BJP-led NDA could consider the return of the Bihar CM to the saffron fold, the Union Minister said, “No, our doors are closed for him. There’s no way back for him to the NDA. You should put the same question to Vijay Choudhary-ji [of the JD(U)] and Manoj Jha-ji (RJD MP). We are neither happy (over rumours of Nitish’s return to NDA) nor weeping. It isn’t my business to talk about them.”

“All that I would say is that there’s a dark cloud hanging over the JD(U) as we head into a new year. The eclipse (over Nitish and his party) will not pass as long as (RJD patriarch and former Bihar CM) Lalu (Yada)-ji is there. Lalu-ji won’t rest till the ruling alliance (in Bihar) is broken,” Singh said.

Earlier, on Friday, Janata Dal (United) Friday saw a change at its helm as the Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar was unanimously re-elected as president of the party at a meeting of the party’s national executive in Delhi.

Later, speaking to reporters after the party’s national council meeting in Delhi, he said that he had accepted the post of the national president of the party.

“I have accepted the post of the national president of the party…” he said.

It came after Rajiv Ranjan Singh, popularly known as Lalan Singh, resigned from the post.

It is not the first time when Nitish Kumar has taken over as the president of the party. In 2016, he became party president after replacing Sharad Yadav. A year later, Kumar broke the ruling alliance with the Rashtriya Janata Dal and joined hands with the BJP.

Last year, Nitish Kumar ended his five-year-long association with the BJP again and reunited with the RJD.

Later, JD(U) spokesperson KC Tyagi rejected rumours of a tiff between the two leaders.

“Our party remains united, there are no differences between Nitish Kumar and Lalan Singh,” he said.

“Four proposals were passed including a political caste-based census at the national level. In January, Nitish Kumar will start a campaign starting from Jharkhand. He authorised to negotiate with allies for seat sharing agreement,” Tyagi said.

Tyagi further called the Bihar CM the ‘prime minister of ideas’ of the Opposition bloc INDIA- an alliance forged for putting up a united front against the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party in the 2024 Lok Sabha polls under the Indian National Developmental Inclusive Alliance umbrella.

“(Bihar CM) Nitish Kumar is the convenor and Prime Minister of the ideas of the INDIA alliance. He has given so much priority to the issue of social justice,” Tyagi said.

Earlier, Bihar Minister Vijay Kumar Choudhary confirmed the offer of resignation from Lalan Singh saying “There is a national executive meeting of JD(U) going on. If they accept our proposal, then Nitish Kumar will be the party president. Lalan Singh told CM Nitish Kumar that he will be busy with elections, so he wants to hand over the post of party president to him and Nitish Kumar accepted it…” (ANI)

All Doors For Nitish’s Return To NDA Closed: Giriraj

Putting to rest speculations of Nitish Kumar’s possible return to the saffron fold, Union Minister Giriraj Singh on Thursday said all doors to the BJP-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA) are closed for the Bihar chief minister.

The Union Minister claimed that the Janata Dal (United), which is the principal partner in the ruling coalition of Bihar, will soon cease to exist as Nitish has lost social support.

Invoking the major controversy around the Bihar CM’s much-derided remarks on birth control on the floor of the Assembly during the Winter Session, Singh said a leader in his mental state should resign forthwith from the post of chief minister.

“All doors for Nitish Kumar’s return to the NDA are closed. The person who makes such derogatory remarks about women in the Assembly should step down from the post of chief minister immediately. Given his current mental condition, he is not fit to hold the post,” Singh told ANI on Thursday.

Nitish walked out of the ‘Mahagathbandhan’ coalition in 2017 to partner with the NDA.

However, in August, last year, he broke ties with the BJP a second time, resigning as Bihar CM just. He formed a new government after joining hands with the RJD and returned as chief minister.

RJD leader Tejashwi Yadav took oath as his deputy.

Weighing in the national executive meeting of JD(U), which is currently underway in the national capital, the Union Minister claimed Bihar would soon get a new CM from the JD(U)’s ally, RJD.

“Nitish Kumar-ji’s days as the CM of Bihar are numbered. He would only remain in the post for a few more days. Lalu Yadav has created a ‘chakravyu’ (trap) for him. The first step in this ‘chakravyu’ was making Awadh Bihar the Speaker of the Bihar Assembly. Nitish Kumar will become the former CM very soon. It is decided that Nitish Kumar will not remain the CM anymore. In the next few days, Bihar is going to get a CM from the RJD,” Singh said.

Earlier, the Janata Dal (United) convened meetings of its national executive meeting and national council meeting in Delhi on Friday.

The meetings were convened by party president Lalan Singh amidst speculation that he could step down to make way for Nitish Kumar the Bihar Chief Minister to once again take over the reins of the party.

Responding to the reports, JD(U) leader KC Tyagi said, “I reject all such rumours. The party has convened two-day meetings. There is a meeting of party office bearers in the office today at 4 pm. There will be a national executive meeting at Vithal Bhai Patel House tomorrow at 11 am, and in the second half national council meeting is scheduled. Nitish Kumar is reaching Delhi to participate in this meeting.”

He said the decisions to be taken in the matter will be divulged later.

Earlier in the day, before leaving for the Capital, the Bihar CM said Friday’s meeting is part of the party’s tradition and takes place once a year.

“This is a normal meeting; it takes place once a year. There’s nothing special in it” the Bihar CM said.

Bihar Deputy Chief Minister and RJD leader Tejashwi Yadav, too, rubbished rumours about the resignation of JD(U) president Lalan Singh.

“These are all useless talks…Every party holds its national executive meeting. We also held our party’s national executive meeting in Delhi,” he said. (ANI)
