Kangana: I Was Sexually Assaulted As A Child

Actor Kangana Ranaut recently opened up about an incident when she was sexually assaulted as a child.

The big revelation was made by Kangana during one of the latest episodes of her reality show ‘Lock Upp’.
Recalling being inappropriately touched by a boy in her town, she said, “So many kids go through this (Sexual assault) every year but we avoid talking about it on public platforms. All of us go through this, all of us have been inappropriately touched at some point. I have faced this. I was a child and a young boy from our town used to inappropriately touch me. At the time, I did not know what it meant, no matter how protective your family is, all kids go through this.”

“Another point is that you are made to feel guilty for it. This is a huge crisis for kids in our society. To tell them the difference between good and bad touch may not be enough. It becomes such a huge crisis. Kids are psychologically traumatised and scarred for life. They face endless troubles in life. This guy was three to four years elder than me, perhaps he was exploring his sexuality. He would call us, get us all to strip and check us. We would not understand it at the time,” Kangana added.

Kangana talked about her sexual assault after stand-up comedian Munawar Faruqui in the episode revealed that he was six years old when he was first sexually assaulted and it went on until he turned 11. (ANI)

‘Chandigarh Is A Cosmo City, Belongs To Both Punjab, Haryana’

Simar Onkar, a citizen of Chandigarh for three decades, says its status quo as the twin capital should be maintained

It was the year 1993-94, when I got my first job posting in Chandigarh as a sales promotion manager for a telecommunication company. That was the time when the paging service had just launched in India, and Chandigarh was the perfect place for the new technology revolution.

I just fell in love with the city. It was the ‘love at first sight’ kind of thing. A well-planned, calm, peaceful and cosmopolitan city, it ticked every box in my list of how a habitable metropolis should be.

Being the child of an army personnel, I could never call any city my home. But after arriving in Chandigarh, I decided that I was going to make this city my home. It has been almost 30 years since I settled here.

I believe that its cosmopolitan nature makes it more unique than anything. This city belongs to everyone — Sikhs, Jats, Muslims, Hindus, Christians or anyone from any other ethnicity, religious or professional groups. In the last 28 years, I haven’t witnessed any communal disturbances in the city unlike other cities in the country.

But, it seems that politicians can never bear the calm. To stir new debates and disturbances, they keep raising the ownership of Chandigarh. Who does the city belong to — Punjab or Haryana? After every few years, this issue crops up, debates get heated and gradually cools down after the electoral heat.

Recently, the Aam Admi Party-led Punjab government staked a claim over Chandigarh by passing a unanimous resolution in the state assembly. They argued that in case of carving out a new state out of any parent state, the capital city remained with the parent city.

The Haryana government has also presented its counter argument as to why it should be the Capital of both the states.

The moot point is that there’s no such city like Chandigarh in both Punjab and Haryana which they can turn into the respective Capital of their states. The next biggest city in Punjab is Amritsar, which carries the tag of more a historic and holy city; it lacks the infrastructure to be recognized as the capital city of Punjab.

However, in case of Haryana, they do have developed Gurgaon with respect to infrastructure, but it is haphazardly created and will be a poor match to Chandigarh.

I believe that the city should be kept out of the controversy. This discord and the political tug of war between the two states is detrimental to the growth of Chandigarh. The status quo, in which it belongs to both the states, should be maintained.

Raj Thackeray To Skip All-Party Meet Called By Maha Govt

Maharashtra Navnirman Sena chief Raj Thackeray will not participate in the all-party meeting called by the state government to resolve the loudspeaker dispute, said the MNS leader Sandeep Deshpande on Monday.

MNS leaders Sandeep Deshpande, Bala Nandgaonkar, and Nitin Sardesai will attend the meeting called by the Maharashtra government.
The Home Minister Dilip Walse on Sunday called for an all-party meeting to be held today. The meeting is expected to be on the discussion about the law and order situation in the state amid the row over loudspeakers.

In wake of the ongoing loudspeaker row in the state, Thackeray had said that the Muslims in the country should understand that “religion is not above law and country” while also asking them to take down loudspeakers from mosques.

“We don’t want riots in Maharashtra. No one has opposed the offering of prayers. We want the loudspeakers that are put up in the mosques and are illegal in the entire country should be taken down. If you do it on loudspeaker, then we will also use loudspeakers for it. Muslims should understand that religion isn’t bigger than the law. After May 3, I will see what to do,” said Thackeray.

Amid his sharp comments, the Maharashtra home department has decided to implement the earlier court orders on the use of loudspeakers at religious sites. The state government will now make it mandatory for religious sites to seek permission for using loudspeakers.

The row started after the MNS chief stoked controversy by asking the state government to remove loudspeakers from mosques till May 3 while warning that if the demand isn’t met, his party members will put loudspeakers to play “Hanuman Chalisa”.(ANI)

BJP Delegation Calls On Home Secy Over Attack On Kirit Somaiya

A Bhartiya Janata Party (BJP) delegation consisting of five party MLAs on Monday met Union Home Secretary Ajay Kumar Bhalla and submitted a detailed report on the attack on former Lok Sabha MP Kirit Somaiya allegedly by Shiv Sena workers in Maharashtra.

Somaiya was also part of the BJP delegation.
Somaiya said, “We had a detailed discussion with the Union Home Secretary on the situation in Maharashtra. He assured us that he is looking into the incident and if necessary a special team from Delhi will be sent to Maharashtra.”

The memorandum submitted by the delegation stated that Somaiya on April 23 was assaulted by 70-80 activists of Shiv Sena at the gate of Khar police station premises in the presence of police personnel. He was attacked with stones, bottles and chappals while returning from the police station, alleged the BJP delegation, while also stating that during the assault the glass window of his car was broken and he was injured.

Somaiya mentioned that the attack was the third assault on him, and thus his security arrangements should be reviewed and demanded actions against the culprits and also against the Khar police station officials.
