Virat Goes For A Relaxing Drive Ahead Of High-Octane Clash With Pakistan

Former Indian cricket team captain Virat Kohli, on Friday, took some time off from practice and went for “a drive” to get some “normalcy,” two days before high-octane clash with Pakistan in the Asia Cup.

Virat took to his Instagram handle and shared a Story in which he is seen clicking a selfie as he sat inside a car, looking relaxed in his plain white T-shirt paired with black shades. He captioned it, ” A drive and some normalcy! Yes please.”
India are going to face arch-rivals Pakistan after a gap of nine months and this has sent the whole media world into a frenzy along with cricket lovers. The much-awaited clash will take place on August 28 in Dubai.

Kohli has seen a dip in the form and his last international century came in the year 2019, in the historic day-night test match against Bangladesh, where he played an innings of 136 runs.

The slump in his form has also resulted in him moving out of the top ten in ICC Test and T-20 men’s batsman rankings. He is placed fifth on the ICC men’s ODI ranking.

The 33-year-old recently spoke about his mental approach and how he has been preparing for the Asia Cup 2022.

“What happened in England was a pattern, so something that I could work on and something that I had to kind of overcome. Right now, as you rightly mentioned, there is nothing that you can point out saying that the problem is happening here. So, that for me, it is an easier thing to process because I know that I’m batting well and at times, when I start feeling that rhythm back, then I know that I’m batting well,” Virat said on Star Sports show ‘Game Plan.’

All eyes will be set on King Kohli to give good performances during the Asia Cup which is being held in T20I format from August 27 to September 11. (ANI)

Pak: 33 MN People Affected By The Worst Flooding In A Decade

At least 33 million people have been severely affected in Pakistan which is witnessing the worst flooding in a decade due to heavy rainfall caused by climate change.

At least 33 million people have been affected by deadly flooding in Pakistan, the country’s climate change minister Sherry Rehman said on Thursday, reported CNN.
Since mid-June, 937 people have died from severe rain and flooding across the South Asian country, according to the country’s National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA).

Sherry Rehman called the floods “unprecedented” and “the worst humanitarian disaster of this decade.”

“Pakistan is going through its eighth cycle of monsoon while normally the country has only three to four cycles of rain,” Rehman said. “The percentages of super flood torrents are shocking.”

She highlighted, in particular, the impact on the south of the country, adding that “maximum” relief efforts are underway, reported CNN.

The NDMA, Pakistani Army, and the Provincial Disaster Management Authority are working to assist those affected — but there is a “dire” need for shelter and relief due to the rising number of homeless and displaced families, she said.

The southern province of Sindh, which has been badly hit by the flooding, has asked for 1 million tents, while nearby Balochistan province has requested 100,000 tents, she added.

“Pakistan’s priority, at the moment, is this climate-induced humanitarian disaster of epic proportions,” Rehman said, urging the international community to provide aid given Pakistan’s “limited” resources.

Minister for Planning and Development Ahsan Iqbal separately told Reuters that 30 million people had been affected, a figure that would represent about 15 per cent of the South Asian country’s population, reported CNN.

UN agency Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) said in an update on Thursday that the monsoon rains had affected some 3 million people in Pakistan of which 184,000 have been displaced to relief camps across the country.

Funding and reconstruction efforts will be a challenge for cash-strapped Pakistan, which is having to cut spending to ensure that the International Monetary Fund approves the release of much-needed bailout money, reported CNN.

The NDMA said in a report that in the past 24 hours, 150 kilometres (about 93 miles) of roads had been damaged across the country and more than 82,000 homes were partially or fully damaged.

Since mid-June, when the monsoon began, more than 3,000 kilometres (1,864 miles) of road, 130 bridges and 495,000 homes have been damaged, according to NDMA’s last situation report, figures also echoed in the OHCA report.

OCHA also warned that alerts had been issued for floods, river overflows, and landslides in several areas of Pakistan, and heavy rainfall was forecast for the next two days, too, over most of the country.

Rehman said Sindh has received 784 per cent more rainfall this month than the August average, while the province of Balochistan had received nearly 500 per cent more.

Twenty-three districts of Sindh have been declared calamity-hit, she said. (ANI)

Jharkhand Governor To Take Call On Hemant’s Disqualification As MLA Tomorrow

Governor of Jharkhand Ramesh Bais is likely to send his recommendation to the Election Commission of India (ECI) on Saturday to disqualify Chief Minister Hemant Soren as an MLA, sources informed.

Earlier in the day, Soren had called a meeting of the MLAs of UPA coalition at his residence in Ranchi.
State Congress President Rajesh Thakur confirmed the details and said that the meeting came amid the recent political developments in the state.

Leaders including Thakur, Congress Legislative Party (CLP) leader Alamgir Alam, all four ministers from Congress quota in the Jharkhand government and a few MLAs were present at the meeting.

The meeting came a day after CM Soren denied receiving any communication from the ECI or Governor Ramesh Bais on the statements about the poll body “recommending his disqualification as an MLA.”

The Chief Minister’s office released a statement on Thursday after several media reports speculated that the ECI has sent a report to the governor about Soren’s disqualification.

“The Chief Minister is apprised of several media reports about ECI sending a report to Honorable Governor -Jharkhand ‘apparently recommending his disqualification as an MLA’. No communication in this regard has been received by CMO from either ECI or Governor,” read the statement.

Meanwhile, state Governor Ramesh Bais cleared the air surrounding Raj Bhawan receiving the opinion of ECI on chief minister Hemant Soren on the office of profit matter and said, “I do not know anything as of now about any order for me. I had gone to AIIMS for treatment, I can only say anything after I reach Rajbhawan.”

The Jharkhand chief minister also launched an attack on the Bharatiya Janata Party and accused its leaders of drafting the ECI reports themselves.

“It apparently seems that BJP leaders including a BJP MP and his puppet journalists have themselves drafted the ECI report, which is otherwise a sealed cover report. This blatant misuse of constitutional authorities and public agencies and its complete takeover by BJP HQ in Deendayal Upadhyay Marg in this shameful manner is unseen in Indian Democracy,” added the statement.

The trail of events gained pace after Nishikant Dubey, BJP Member of Parliament from Godda, Jharkhand, tweeted that the letter from the ECI has reached the Raj Bhavan.

The hearing in the Hemant Soren mine leasing case, in which the BJP has accused him of extending himself a mining lease and sought his disqualification as an MLA, was concluded in the ECI on Monday. (ANI)

Sonali Forcibly Drugged With Obnoxious Chemical: Goa Police

BJP leader Sonali Phogat was forcibly drugged at a party by her two associates who are now arrested after being named as accused in the case related to her death, Goa Police said on Friday.

“On the basis of CCTV footage,it was seen that the accused Sudhir Sangwan and his associate Sukhwinder Singh were partying with the deceased at a club. A video establishes that one of them forcefully made the victim consume a substance,” Inspector General of Police Omvir Singh Bishnoi said.
The accused Sudhir Sagwan and Sukhwinder Singh had travelled to Goa along with Phogat on August 22.

“When confronted, Sukhwinder and Sudhir confessed that they intentionally mixed an obnoxious chemical into a liquid and made the victim drink it,” IGP Omvir Singh Bishnoi said.

The two accused- Sudhir Sangwan and Sukhwinder Singh- have been arrested and further investigations are on, the Goa Police said.

Sonali Phogat’s brother Rinku Dhaka had filed a complaint alleging that Sonali was murdered by Sudhir Sangwan, her personal trainer along with Sukhwinder Singh who intended “to take over her properties and financial assets to finish her political career. “

The drugging incident happened at Curlies Restaurant at Anjuna in North Goa, according to the confession by the accused.

The two accused confessed that after they intentionally mixed an obnoxious chemical into a liquid and made the victim drink it, which made her feel uneasy, after which they took her to the hotel and then to St. Anthony’s Hospital, where she was declared brought dead,” the Goa police said

The police also said that the CCTV footage confirmed that the victim was forcibly given the substance. But the exact cause of her death will be confirmed only after by experts from the forensic science laboratory.

Dhaka alleged that “Phogat’s PA raped her after adding drugs to her meals”. He also claimed that the actor had no plans to visit Goa and she was brought there as per a conspiracy. “She had no plan to come to Goa. She was brought as per a pre-planned conspiracy. There was no movie shoot. Two rooms in the hotel had been booked only for two days. Film shooting was supposed to happen on August 24 but rooms were only booked for August 21-22,” Dhaka said.

After Dhaka’s complaint, new reports surfaced that claimed Gopal Kanda is helping Sangwan and Sukhwinder. However, on Friday, Dhaka denied the allegation while speaking to the media in Haryana.

Sonali Phogat’s post-mortem was done in Goa and as per Rinku Dhaka, the post-mortem report showed four injuries and poison as the cause of death.

“A probe should be done as per the filed FIR. The post-mortem report says that her (Sonali Phogat) body has marks of injury,” Dhakahad said earlier.

Goa Police on Thursday said no sharp-edged injuries were found on the body of the actor. The Goa Police on Thursday also registered a murder case against the two accused.

Meanwhile, Phogat’s last rites were conducted on Friday at Hisar in Haryana.

The actor, who rose to fame with her TikTok videos, contested the 2019 Haryana election as a BJP candidate but lost to then Congress leader Kuldeep Bishnoi (he has since joined the BJP). She also appeared in the reality show Bigg Boss in 2020. (ANI)

Indian Muslims Need Marriage Law Reforms

It seems as if every ruling party rakes up the issues related to the Indian Muslims deliberately over the years, before any elections particularly. Further, what confounds one is why do the Muslim religious leaders try to resolve the issues facing the community near these dates only, why don’t they stick to their original plans? One fails to understand the reason that why did the AIMPLB held a meeting to discuss the issue just two months before the assembly elections in some states.

The most recent example in this case is that of formulating the Model Nikahnama for the Indian Muslims, by the Muslim religious leaders, who had promised almost five years ago in 2017 that they’ll draft the Model Nikahnama under the aegis of the All India Muslim Personal Law Board (AIMPLB), when they were rapped hard on the knuckles by the government on the issue of Talaq-e Biddat or the Triple Talaq.

In reality the religious leaders had drafted a model Nikahnama for the first time way back in 2003. But the ideological differences amongst different sects are such that they can’t agree to have a consensus on any religious issue.

Though the Supreme Court had banned the practice of Triple Talaq in 2017 and in spite of several initiatives since 2003 to find a judicious process based on Islamic Fiqh (Jurisprudence), the leaders have been unable to do so and in fact none of them uttered any word either against the SC or the government when the SC gave its verdict in 2017, as they knew within their hearts that they had wrongfully given consent to or not spoken against the Triple Talaq.

Though after 2017, very few cases of Triple Talaq have been reported, yet the practice reportedly continues unabated, as it has not been condemned or banned by the Muslim leaders. Meanwhile, instead of focussing on how to find a way out of the impasse, the religious leaders continue with their slumber and feeding the community with rhetoric-laced pills.

They claim that the drafting of a new Nikahnama is being worked upon but shy away from mentioning any firm date by which it’ll be finalised. This shows their commitment to the community, their followers and particularly Islam. They are unable to sit together and thrash out a strategy against an unIslamic practice in one sitting of the learned ones. Yet they continue with the charade of safeguarding the Muslims of India.

The AIMPLB at one of its meetings earlier this month, continued with their obduracy on not to insert a clause against instant Triple Talaq, as desired and dictated by the SC and which the Muslim Women (Protection of Rights on Marriage) Act, has made a criminal act.

Reportedly, they approached the issue in a round about manner and suggested amongst themselves to insert a clause on Talaq-e-Tafweez or delegated divorce. Thus, effectively trying to paint a picture that they haven’t bowed to the government, but in fact turning a blind eye to an unIslamic practice, and suggesting yet another one on the applicability of which they’ll have no say.

The new suggestion makes the issue not only complex but also shows their desire to hoodwink the law. The leaders have proposed to insert a new clause called Talaq-e Tafweez based on Sharia. Talaq-e Tafweez is one of the most important forms of divorce under Muslim Law or Sharia, as it gives to Muslim women a right to divorce their husband without going to court of law. In this form of divorce a Muslim male can delegate his power of repudiation of marriage to a third person or to his wife also, at the time of marriage.

It further makes one wonder that if the religious leaders and jurists are unable to categorically ban the instant Talaq then what is the assurance that this new proposal will make the instant Talaq, go away from our society. In fact it makes them the butt of joke and shows their obduracy and unwillingness to hear any sane word of advice.

Some members of the AIMPLB reportedly, even opined that Khula, the women’s inalienable right to instant divorce, was a more viable alternative, so there was no need for the clause on Talaq-e Tafweez. Thus, in toto making a mockery of the whole issue.

In reality, a Nikahnama, which is essentially a contract between a groom and a bride, is based on the logic to specify to the women with all necessary terms and conditions of the marriage being solemnised. Its sanctity and the rights given to Muslim women is evident by the fact that the Wakeels (advocates) and two eye witnesses get the bride’s consent to the marriage in absence of her parents to ensure avoiding any sort of pressure from her parents or relatives for the marriage. This is the practical and humane form of the Islamic Sharia, which tries to give every right to its women followers too, at par with her male counterparts.

But this and her other rights given to her by the Sharia, such as her Right to Inheritance in the assets and property of her father are often not followed and given to her by her male relatives. The religious leaders have also been unable to ensure that very bridegroom pays the Mehr (dower, which the husband has to pay to his wife)promised by him to his bride as soon as possible after the solemnisation of the marriage and preferably before the nuptial night.

The ponderable issue here is that when and how the old Nikahnama was given-up by the Indian Qazis. Historically, these earlier Nikahnamas used to contain every minor detail about the nuptial contract between husband and wife and very specifically listed out various rights of the wife.

Now a day, the Nikahnama, used in various Indian states varies from state to state and also from sect to sect, and is mostly a piece of paper stating the basic information about the two parties and contains no mention of the various rights and duties of both the husband and wife.

AIMPLB, which claims to be the highest decision making body of all sects of Indian Muslims should strive to get a modern Nikahnama drafted at the earliest. This should include the rights and duties of both the husband and wife and also guidance on how to ensure a long lasting marriage and if need be, then how to proceed with Talaq or divorce – a step which is despised most by Allah as mentioned in the Holy Quran. This document should not only have the social, economic guidance but also be guided by the Quranic teachings, otherwise it would be an effort in vain and will lead to further politicisation of the issue to be used by different political parties when it suits them.

Cong Hits Out At Azad Calls His DNA Modi-Fied

Congress general secretary in-charge communications Jairam Ramesh on Friday took a sweep at veteran leader Ghulam Nabi Azad, who quit the party, saying Azad betrayed the Congress since his DNA has been “modi-fied”.

Taking to Twitter, Ramesh said, “A man who has been treated with the greatest respect by the Congress leadership has betrayed it by his vicious personal attacks which reveals his true character. GNA’s DNA has been modi-fied.”
Meanwhile, Congress leader Pawan Khera said the challenges being faced by the party are created by the leaders like Azad.

“When he was taking all the decisions, he proudly belonged to the core group. Now, when others are taking decisions, he labels them as sycophants. The challenges faced by Congress today are because of leaders like him,” Khera said in a Twitter post.

Veteran Congress leader Ghulam Nabi Azad on Friday resigned from all posts of the party citing the “immaturity” of Rahul Gandhi whom he blamed for “demolishing the consultative mechanism” in the party.

In a hard-hitting 5 page note to party interim president Sonia Gandhi, Azad claimed that a coterie runs the party while she was just a nominal head and all the major decisions were taken by “Shri Rahul Gandhi or rather worse his security guards and PAs”

The development comes days after Azad resigned from the organisational post of Jammu and Kashmir.

Recounting his long association with the Congress and his close relationship with Indira Gandhi, Azad said the situation in the Congress party has reached a point of “no return.”

“The entire organisational election process is a farce and a sham. At no place anywhere in the country have elections been held at any level of the organisation. Handpicked lieutenants of the AICC has been coerced to sign on lists prepared by the coterie that runs the AICC sitting in 24 Akbar Road,” Azad wrote.

Hitting out at Rahul Gandhi, Azad wrote, “Since the 2019 elections the situation in the party has only worsened. After. Rahul Gandhi stepped down in a ‘huff’ and not before insulting all the senior Party functionaries who have given their lives to the party in a meeting of the extended Working Committee, you took over as interim President. A position that you have continue to hold even today for the past three years.”

Azad said that it was “worse still the ‘remote control model’ that demolished the institutional integrity of the UPA government now got applied to the Indian National Congress.”

He continued the attack on Rahul Gandhi but praised Sonia Gandhi for playing “sterling” role as Congress President in both the UPA governments.

Azad’s resignation comes ahead of the 2024 elections and after indications that elections to the post of Congress chief would be postponed yet again. Congress top leadership has announced a ‘Bharat Jodo Yatra’.

In his letter, Azad said, “While undoubtedly as the President of the Indian National Congress you played a sterling role in the formation of both the UPA -1 and UPA-2 governments. However, one of the major reasons for this success was that as President you heeded the wise counsel of senior leaders, besides trusting their judgement and delegating powers to them. However unfortunately after the entry of Shri Rahul Gandhi into politics and particularly after January, 2013 when he was appointed as Vice President by you, the entire Consultative mechanism which existed earlier was demolished by him.”

Azad further alleged that all senior and experienced leaders were sidelined by Rahul Gandhi.

He said,”All senior and experienced leaders were sidelined and new coterie of inexperienced sycophants started running the affairs of the Party. One of the most glaring examples of this immaturity was the tearing up of a government ordinance in the full glare of the media by Shri Rahul Gandhi. The said ordinance was incubated in the Congress Core Group and subsequently unanimously approved by the Union Cabinet presided over by the Prime Minister of India and duly approved even by the President of India.”

“This ‘childish’ behaviour completely subverted the authority of the Prime Minister and Government of India. This one single action more than anything else contributed significantly to the defeat of the UPA Government in 2014 that was at the receiving end of a campaign of calumny and insinuation from a combination of the forces of the right-wing and certain unscrupulous corporate interests,” the Azad wrote.

Ghulam Nabi Azad is one of the group of 23 leaders who were vocal about a leadership change in the Congress and not being dependent on the Gandhi family for every major decision of the Congress party.

Earlier on Wednesday, lawyer-turned-politician Jaiveer Shergill, resigned as Congress spokesperson stating that the decision-making of the grand-old party is not in consonance with the ground reality and public interest rather it is influenced by sycophancy.

Among the prominent Congress leaders who have left the party are Jyotiraditiya Scindia, who is now a Union minister and Jitin Prasada. (ANI)

Pakistan Imran Khan

Imran Calls Himself Very Dangerous Amid Terrorism Charges

Former Pakistani Prime Minister Imran Khan, who is currently facing terrorism charges, went bombastic on the ruling government with his words and warned the ruling coalition saying, “I am very dangerous.”

This threat by the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Imran Khan came when he was speaking to the media at the anti-terrorism court in Islamabad where he was present in regards to the extenstion of his pre-arrest bail which the court granted till September 1.
“I am very dangerous”, said Imran Khan, reported The New International. Though he made a furious commentary over the troubled situation, Imran Khan avoided answering many questions which were being asked by the reporters.

PTI chairman Imran Khan has said the people who are taking decisions or finalizing them should think about the country. A terrorism case was filed against Imran Khan for giving threatening remarks about a woman additional sessions judge.

The court accepted the pre-arrest bail till September 1 against surety bonds worth Rs 100,000. The PTI head had moved his bail petition through his lawyer Dr Babar Awan and Ali Bukhari, Advocate.

When reporters emphasized Imran Khan made a statement about the situation, Imran only uttered one sentence, “I am very dangerous.”

Afterwards, he said, “They are trying to arrest the head of the largest party of the country in this case.” He contended that Pakistan was being mocked all over the world at this time. He accused the government of trying to score a “technical knockout” against him.

Meanwhile, the police on Thursday registered a terrorism case against Interior Minister Rana Sanaullah after he threatened the government officials to kill their children and said that Pakistan’s court and its judiciary will not help them.

The case was filed by a citizen in the Industrial Area Police Station of Gujrat. The police registered a case of terrorism and interference in government matters against Sanaullah, reported Geo News.

According to the first information report (FIR), the interior minister threatened the government officials to kill their children and said that Pakistan’s court and its judiciary will not help them.

The FIR added that Sanaullah said they [government] will surround those judges who are going to promote PTI’s agenda, reported Geo News.

“Rana Sanaullah’s statement was to terrorise the judiciary, chief secretary and other government officials and to not let them do their job so that they are unable to fulfil their judicial commitments,” stated the report citing an old video of the PML-N leader.

The FIR mentioned that the minister’s statement has caused fear and terror among the judiciary, authorities, police, bureaucracy and the nation, reported Geo News.

Soon after the news came out, Pakistan Muslim League Quaid (PML-Q) senior leader Moonis Elahi said that the interior minister will be arrested soon, reported Geo News.

“You make false cases against Imran Khan, now the Pakistani nation has registered a true case against you,” he wrote on Twitter.

The PML-Q was referencing the case registered against Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Imran Khan, last week, for threatening an additional sessions judge and senior police officers of the Islamabad Police at a rally in the federal capital’s F-9 Park.

The FIR had claimed that Khan threatened Additional Sessions Judge Zeba Chaudhry and police officers to “terrorise” the law enforcement agency and the judiciary after which the arrest warrants for the PTI leader were issued. (ANI)
