BJP Will Cross Majority Mark In Tripura: Shah

Expressing confidence of BJP getting full majority in the Tripura assembly elections, Union Home Minister Amit Shah has said that the BJP is seeking a mandate to make the state prosperous in the next five years building on the development initiatives of the party-led government. Responding to questions about a possible hung assembly in Tripura, Amit Shah said that the constituencies in Tripura are small and “you will see that before 12PM on counting day, the BJP would have crossed the majority mark.”

In an exclusive interview with ANI, he also said that BJP’s ‘ChaloPaltai’ slogan in the last election was not a slogan to come to power in the state but to change the situation in Tripura.
The BJP created a record in 2018 by ousting the Left Front government which ruled Tripura for 35 years from 1978. The state will go to the polls on February 16 for its 60-member assembly.

The BJP is contesting 55 seats while its ally Indigenous Peoples Front of Tripura (IPFT) is contesting the remaining five seats.

Shah said Congress and CPI-M joining hands shows that they are not in a position to defeat BJP on their own and “it is very good position” for the party.

“We will increase our seats and also our vote share in Tripura. Congress and the Communist party have come together as they have accepted that they can’t defeat BJP alone. We will form government with full majority in the state,” Shah said.

“‘ChaloPaltai’ slogan was given to change the situation in Tripura, and we’ve done that. Earlier when the Left was in power in Tripura, government employees were paid under Pay Commission, but we implemented the 7th Pay commission in the state without increasing fiscal deficit. We eliminated violence in Tripura and also took strict action against drugs business from across the border in the state,” he added.

Shah also outlined the “effective steps” of the state government to end violence in the border state and tackle the drug menace and added that these have sent a good message among people.

“There is no violence in Tripura. Time has come to make Tripura prosperous. The double-engine government has taken several steps to fulfil its promises,” he said.

Asked about Manik Saha replacing Biplab Deb as Tripura Chief Minister in May last year and if it sent a signal of the BJP’s central leadership controlling the state unit, Shah said that Deb is an MP and has several key organisational responsibilities in the central BJP.

He said changes are sometimes made if the national parties need leaders at the central level.

“I feel this is promotion, it should not be looked at from any other angle,” he said.

Home Minister said that the BJP-led government has taken steps to strengthen local languages in the northeastern states and added that there is no big official programme in Delhi without participation of artists from the northeast.

He said under PM Modi’s leadership, several steps have been taken for the welfare of people in the northeast.

“There is peace in the Northeast today, there has been peace agreement with several militant organisations.”

He referred to the agreement to end the Bru-Reang refugee crisis in Tripura and with National Liberation Front of Tripura (NLFT).

Shah said PM Modi’s initiatives have helped the tribal population.

“The tribal communities are experiencing development now. Today, we have the first tribal President in the country. The benefits being given to poor families are also being extended to the tribal community without any discrimination. They realize that they were misled earlier”

Shah said before the year 2024, all state capitals in the Northeast region will get rail and air connectivity and this is not a small achievement.

“Nearly over 8,000 cadres of militant outfits have surrendered arms and joined the mainstream. The northeast was known for blockade, protests, bomb explosions and insurgency. Today roads are being built there, airports are being built. Where there was one airport in a state like Tripura, we are building a second here. The Prime Minister has undertaken various developmental projects for the northeast region,” he said.

On Karnataka, Shah said the party will come back to power with full majority.

“The BJP will form its government in Karnataka with a full majority. I have seen the pulse of the people and the popularity of PM Modi. The BJP will get a huge mandate,” he said.

Answering another query on some major states going to the polls this year, he said BJP is strong in Rajasthan, Karnataka, Chhattisgarh and Madhya Pradesh and will win all four.

“We repeated our governments in Manipur, Assam and Arunachal Pradesh. We will repeat our government in Tripura also,” he said answering a query.

Asked about JD(S) accusing BJP of dynastic politics, he said there are people who are second or third-generation politicians in the BJP also but it is not that the party chief will be from such a family only, or the entire family will become an MP or an MLA. “What kind of comparison is this? You have finished the entire democratic system,” he said.

“Even the people of Mandya are now shifting from dynastic parties and accepting BJP’s politics of development. This is a good sign for Karnataka,” he said.

Shah, who visited Puttur in Karnataka and inaugurated ‘Bharat Mata Mandir’, said he welcomes any allegation made against him regarding the visit in the poll-bound state. When asked if the BJP has begun a campaign of nationalism in the state, Amit Shah said he welcomed such allegations.

“I accept and welcome all the allegations if they are levelled against me for going to the Bharat Mata Mandir,” he said.

He said the place has pictures of Tantya Tope, Savarkar and also Param Vir Chakra recipient Lance Naik Albert Ekka. “I thank the trust which made it.”

Karnataka is expected to go for polls in the first half of this year.

Polling for the Meghalaya and Nagaland Assembly polls will be held on February 27. The counting of votes in the two states along with Tripura will take place on March 2. (ANI)

BJP Slams DMK Govt Over Law & Order In Tamil Nadu

Bharatiya Janata Party Tamil Nadu unit chief K Annamalai on Monday attacked the DMK government alleging murder and robbery have “increased across the state.”

Taking to his social media, Annamalai wrote, “Coimbatore is becoming a murder city. Two murders have taken place in Coimbatore in front of the public and near the court complex yesterday alone. Not only that, but gun culture has also taken over. Ever since the DMK came to power, the law and order junction has been laughing. Incidents of murder and robbery have increased across the state.”
“The hands of the police are tied. There is an unsafe situation for the guards themselves. The incompetent DMK government has sent all the ministers to the Erode East by-election mission and created an unsafe situation for the lives and property of the people and pushed Tamil Nadu into it,” Annamalai further tweeted.

He further tweeted, “I immediately urge the chief minister of the state on behalf of my party to focus on law and order which is the basic duty of the government and take strict measures so that the public can live without fear.”

Meanwhile, K. Annamalai is scheduled to campaign in Erode East constituency on February 19 and 20 for the candidate of alliance partner, the AIADMK.

Election Commission announced a byelection to the Erode East constituency in Tamil Nadu on February 27. The counting of votes will be done on March 2.

The bypoll was necessitated due to the death of the Congress MLA Thirumagan, the great-grandson of social reformer ‘Periyar’ E V Ramasamy and son of former Union minister E V K S Elangovan. (ANI)

It’s a game-changer for all of us because we will experience this kind of pressure for the first time. I am very excited and at the same time, this will entirely change women’s cricket not only in India but in world cricket too. It’s a great initiative and we are looking forward to that. We all are coming to Mumbai and hope we will get all the support from Mumbai Indians. MI fans have always been very great and like how MI men have been doing, we would like to contribute the same way,” expressed Kaur in a video shared by Mumbai Indians on their Twitter handle.

A total of 1,525 players registered for the inaugural WPL auction and the final list was pruned to 409 players.

Protests In Dhaka Against China Over Tibet Occupation

People in Dhaka have been protesting against Beijing, highlighting the issue of Tibetan independence from China. The protestors also called on the global community to put pressure on China to grant independence to Tibet.

A solidarity rally was held and human chai was formed under the aegis of Muktijoddha Mancha in front of the National Museum, Shahbag in Dhaka.

The protesters were carrying banners “China Fails Human Rights”, “Tibet is Not Part of China”, “Free Tibet China Out” and many more.

The Tibetans mark February 13 as Independence Day as on this day in 1913 the 13th Dalai Lama declared Tibetan independence in the declaration of the “Proclamation of Independence”.

Tibet was occupied by China in March 1959 and since then the Tibetans are facing the worst human rights violations.

In a recent report, the UN experts warned that around a million children of the Tibetan minority were being affected by Chinese government policies aimed at assimilating Tibetan people culturally, religiously, and linguistically through a residential school system.

“We are very disturbed that in recent years, the residential school system for Tibetan children appears to act as a mandatory large-scale program intended to assimilate Tibetans into majority Han culture, contrary to international human rights standards,” the UN experts said.

Rising Chinese atrocities have forced a large number of Tibetans to migrate from Tibet and take shelter in different parts of the world.

They are demanding Free Tibet and seeking urgent intervention from United Nations and the international community to provide them justice.

The solidarity march in Dhaka is a testimony of the growing Bangladeshi support for protecting the human rights of Tibetans. (ANI)

Not Scared Of Disqualification, Prison Sentences: Rahul

Not Afraid Of Modi, Doesn’t Matter If He Is PM: Rahul Gandhi

Congress leader Rahul Gandhi on Monday said that he is not “scared” of PM Narendra Modi, alleging that the Prime Minister thinks that he is very powerful and people are scared of him.

Gandhi, while addressing Congress workers in his Lok Sabha constituency Wayanad, said that PM Modi would be forced to face the truth one day.

“PM thinks he is very powerful and people will get scared of him. The Prime Minister does not realise the absolute last thing I am scared of is Narendra Modi. It doesn’t matter if he is the PM of India. Because one day he will be forced to face his truth,” Gandhi said.

Gandhi also questioned why parts of his speech in Parliament during the budget session were removed, but no words were expunged from the PM’s speech in which he allegedly insulted the Congress leader.

“Parts of my speech in parliament were removed. I did not insult anybody. I was asked to show proof with regards to what I said and I have written a letter to the Lok Sabha Speaker with every point they have removed along with supporting proof. I do not expect my words will be allowed to go on the record. The PM of the country directly insulted me but his words are not taken off the record. He said why is your name Gandhi and not Nehru,” Wayanad MP further said.

Gandhi also alleged that when he was talking about Adani in Parliament, PM Modi’s hands were shaking.

“Truth always comes out. All you have to do was to look at my face when I was speaking and his face. Look how many times the PM drank water and how his hands were shaking while drinking water,” Rahul Gandhi said.

He further said that it is important for everyone in this country to see Parliament proceedings and understand the “nexus” between Prime Minister Narendra Modi and businessman Gautam Adani.

“It is important for everyone in this country to see the parliament proceedings, comprehend what’s happening in the country and understand the nexus between the PM and Mr Adani,” he added.

Notably, Lok Sabha Secretariat has sought Congress leader Rahul Gandhi’s reply on the breach of privilege notice given against him by Parliamentary Affairs Minister Pralhad Joshi and BJP MP Nishikant Dubey over “misleading, derogatory, unparliamentary and incriminatory statements” during a discussion of the motion of thanks on the President’s address.

Rahul Gandhi has been asked to furnish his reply by February 15 for consideration by the Lok Sabha Speaker.

The communication by the Privileges and Ethics Branch of the Lok Sabha Secretariat was sent to Rahul Gandhi on February 10.

“I am to request you kindly to furnish your reply/comments in the matter by February 15, 2023,” said the letter written by a Lok Sabha official.

Rahul Gandhi, in his speech in the Lok Sabha on February 7, made several allegations against the government over the Hindenburg-Adani row.

In his letter to the Lok Sabha Speaker, Dubey said the Congress MP made certain “unverified, incriminatory and defamatory statements” in contravention of the rules. He said Rahul Gandhi made these against Prime Minister Narendra Modi “without giving advance notice to the Speaker and also to the Prime Minister as required under Rule 353”.

“These statements are misleading, derogatory, indecent, unparliamentary, undignified and incriminatory in nature to the dignity of the House and Prime Minister being a Member of Lok Sabha. Rahul Gandhi, despite making a statement in the House that he would provide documentary evidence, has not submitted any duly authenticated document for supporting his statements,” Dubey wrote. (ANI)

India Wholesale Inflation Up

Retail Inflation Breaches RBI Comfort Zone Barrier

Retail inflation in India again breached RBI’s upper tolerance band in the month of January 2023,

with the Consumer Price Index pegged at 6.52 per cent, government data released on Monday showed.

The retail inflation in rural and urban India was 6.85 per cent and 6.00 per cent, respectively. Among groups, cereals and products, eggs, spices, among others, contributed to the elevation in retail inflation in January.

India’s retail inflation, based on Consumer Price Index, during the month of December was at 5.72 per cent,

versus 5.88 per cent in November and 6.77 per cent during October.

India’s retail inflation was above RBI’s six per cent target for three consecutive quarters and

had managed to fall back to the RBI’s comfort zone only in November 2022.

Since May last year, the RBI has increased the short-term lending rate by 250 basis points, including the latest 25 bps hike, to tame inflation. Raising repo rate helps in cooling demand in the economy and thus helps in managing inflation.

Under the flexible inflation targeting framework, the RBI is deemed to have failed in managing price rises

if the CPI-based inflation is outside the 2-6 per cent range for three quarters in a row.

Meanwhile, average retail inflation in India is projected to be at 5.3 during the next financial year 2023-24,

the Reserve Bank of India governor Shaktikanta Das said last Wednesday while announcing monetary policy outcomes.

The projection, he had said, was based on the assumption of a normal monsoon.

The average inflation in Q1 2023-24 is expected at 5.0 per cent, Q2 at 5.4 per cent, Q3 at 5.4 per cent, and Q4 at 5.6 per cent, respectively.

For the current financial year 2022-23 ending March, inflation was projected at 6.5 per cent, with an average of 5.7 per cent in the January-March 2023 quarter. (ANI)

Zeenat posted a black-and-white picture with her mother Vardhini Scharwachter. She told the world that she owes her free spirit to her mother.

“If I have lived an extraordinary life it’s because I was brought up by an extraordinary woman. My mother Vardhini Scharwachter was what you’d call a ‘pataka’. Elegant, intelligent, feisty and my pillar of support. She was a practising Hindu and she epitomised the ideas of tolerance, love and empowerment. Her faith did not stop her from marrying my father Amanullah Khan. Later, after they had separated, she fell in love with and married a wonderful German man, whom I called Uncle Heinz. She taught me to stand on my own two feet and to live life on my own terms. She was truly the wind beneath my wings. I lost most of my family photographs in the Mumbai floods of 2005, and so the few that I can find are all the more precious to me,” wrote Zeenat in the caption.

Fans and celebs hail this mother-daughter bond with lovely messages.

Over the course of my career I have been photographed and filmed by many talented men. A woman’s gaze though is different.” She is elated to find female photographers who are working with passion. Communist Rule Pushed Tripura To Brink Of Destruction: Modi

Communist Rule Pushed Tripura To Brink Of Destruction: Modi

With the Assembly polls round the corner in Tripura, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, while addressing a public rally in Agartala on Monday, hit out at the Congress-Left alliance, saying that they have pushed the state to the brink of destruction.

“The first condition for development is rule of law and order. The Communist rule had pushed Tripura to the brink of destruction. The people of Tripura can never forget the chaotic situation wherein cadres had taken hostage every aspect of life. The Left had treated the people of Tripura as slaves and themselves as kings,” PM Modi said, adding that only the Bharatiya Janata Party brought peace and established rule of law in Tripura.
The PM further said that the opposition alliance in the state will never develop Tripura.

“I want to remind the people of Tripura about one thing, the Left and the Congress can never develop Tripura and want the people of Tripura to remain poor. They have only one agenda i.e. filling their coffers,” PM Modi said.

This was the PM’s second visit within a week to the state which is set to go to polls on February 16. The votes will be counted on March 2.

PM Modi, while exuding his confidence to win the election by a huge margin said that his party does the politics of “badlav”, not “badla”.

“BJP does politics of change, not revenge. We do politics of public interest and national interest. That’s why this time BJP is coming back with more votes than last time,” the PM said.

He further came down heavily on the CPI(M) and accused both parties of “killing” political opponents before every election.

“Communists ruled Tripura for three decades and killed political opponents before every election. BJP’s government in Tripura has been working day and night to fill the pit dug during the last 25-30 years of communist rule,” the PM also said.

Highlighting the BJP government’s key schemes for the state, the PM said that under its regime, Tripura got a Buddhist university, National Forensic Sciences University, dental college and cancer hospital.

“PM Kisan Samman Nidhi is another example of a double-engine government. Till now we have granted Tripura’s farmers over Rs 500 crore. The same is with our efforts towards MSP. We’ve brought the poor, including the Vishwakarmas, into the banking and finance system. No family in Tripura hasn’t received benefits from BJP policies,” he added.

The Prime Minister further said that the state’s capital has become the gateway for international trade in the North East and will become the largest market for international trade in the region after getting connected to the port city through the Maitri bridge.

“After landing at Tripura airport, people are surprised by the kind of modern infrastructure. New highways and rural roads are being constructed, new railway lines are being laid out in Tripura,” Modi said.

Further, he said that the youth and women of Tripura have shown the red card to ‘Chanda’ and ‘Jhanda’.

“Youth and women of Tripura have shown the red card to Chanda and Jhanda company. The people of Tripura have already announced that they want a government of ‘Sabka Saath Sabka Vikas’ with an absolute majority,” he added.

Last week, BJP National President JP Nadda and Tripura Chief Minister Manik Saha released the party’s poll manifesto. (ANI)
