Dhankhar Adjourns RS Till Next Part Of Budget Session On March 13

Dhankhar Adjourns RS Till Next Part Of Budget Session On March 13

The Rajya Sabha was on Monday adjourned till the beginning of the next part of the Budget Session on March 13 amid pandemonium created by a joint Opposition led by Congress and Aam Aadmi Party, as the chair declined the notices of several members on various issues.

The Upper House saw two adjournments — first till 11.50 am and the second till 11 am on March 13 — as the Opposition leaders continued their protest sloganeering in the House demanding Joint Parliamentary Committee on Adani row.
Before the first adjournment, Rajya Sabha Chairman Jagdeep Dhankhar named several MPs and warned them for not to indulge in such acts that disrupt the proceedings of the House as several members from Opposition parties trooped into the well of the House sloganeering, the Chairman named a few of them including Raghav Chaddha, Imran Pratapgarhi, Shakti Sinh Gohil, Kumar Ketkar and Sandeep Pathak.

The ruckus started soon after the House assembled for the day at 11 am and ‘Zero House’ was allowed following papers were laid on the table.

As the Chairman declined the notices of several Opposition leaders, the members started raising slogans and many of them trooped into the well-sloganeering “JPC se Jaanch Karao” (investigate through JPC) were raised in the House. Some other slogans were also raised in the House by the Opposition members.

Amid the din, Dhankhar tried to run the House and said he “expect everyone in the House to help in running it smoothly.”

“I appeal all of you that we have to maintain our conduct so that people of the country like it.”

Meanwhile, Leader of Opposition Mallikarjun Kharge objected to expunging his remarks during the discussion of the Motion of Thanks on the President’s address, and suspension of Congress MP Rajni Patil earlier.

Dhankhar objected to Kharge, saying “You are forfeiting your right. You always raise questions on a chair that it takes decisions under pressure,”

Leader of the House Piyush Goyal, meanwhile, said “it is truly an insult of the House…”, and requested the chair to adjourn the house for some time and warn the members.

As the ruckus continued, the Chairman adjourned the House to meet at 11.50 am after naming a few members with a warning.

The Chairman allowed the ‘Question Hour’ after the House again assembled at 11.50 am but he had to adjourn it till 11 am on March 13, the second part of the Budget Session, after a brief attempt to run the House amid the din. (ANI)

Manik Saha Set To Repeat Term As Tripura Chief Minister

BJP Will Get More Than 36 Seats: Manik Saha

Expressing confidence that BJP will improve its performance compared to the last assembly polls, Tripura Chief Minister Dr Manik Saha has said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi has changed the definition of politics and no arithmetic works in front of trust of people.

In an exclusive interview with the ANI, the Chief Minister said that BJP has improved law and order situation in the state and there has been been a lot of improvement in railways, airways, national highways and internet connectivity.
“You’ve heard of a tsunami, something like that will happen. Anything can happen but it will not be less than 2018. In 2018, we got 36 seats and our alliance partner got 8 seats. So this time we will get more than 36 seats,” he said.

The elections to 60-member Tripura assembly will be held on February 16. The BJP created a record in the 2018 poll by defeating the Left Front in its bastion.

Asked about the pre-poll pact between the Congress and Left parties and possibility of Tipra Motha joining hands with any party after the polls, Saha said no arithmetic works in front of public’s trust.

“They (the opposition) is doing traditional politics. PM Modi changed the definition of politics…(Opposition) are doing arithmetic as to how many (votes) they can get but we work for public. No arithmetic works in front of public’s trust,” he said.

The Chief Minister said BJP is busy working day and night for people to address their problems.

“So, I don’t know for how long (how many days) they (opposition) will remain in politics with these types of tactics.”

BJP’s ally IPFT (Indigenous People’s Front of Tripura) won eight seats in the 2018 polls.

BJP is contesting 55 seats in this election and its partner IPFT is contesting five seats.

The Chief Minister accused opposition parties of indulging in vote bank politics.

Replying to queries, BJP leader said that there are “remote chances” of any post-poll alliance with Tipra Motha.

“The kind of figures we have, on the basis of that figures we can say that there are remote chances,” he said.

Tipra Motha, chaired by Bikram Manikya Debbarma, the Tirpura royal scion, is demanding “Greater Tipraland”.

Saha said the government has improved the law and order situation in the state and there has been a significant reduction in crime.

“As per the NCB data among the 29 states Tripura is in the fifth position from the bottom in crime. In many subjects like murder, dacoity, political violence, theft, eve-teasing, the crime rate has decreased. Earlier there were many cases but now it is very low. The crime rate has decreased in the state and this is a big change,” he said.

“Communists ruled here for so many years and said the Centre is not giving (aid for development). But after PM Modi came to power, there has been a lot of improvement in railways, airways, national highways and internet connectivity here. It’s just the beginning,” he added.

Saha said people are happy with the steps taken by the government across sectors.

“You will be astonished to know that doctors were not promoted here since 22 years. We have promoted them after 22 years. In many families, father, mother and children were in the same grade. But now all doctors are very happy,” he said.

The counting of votes for Tripura polls will be held on March 2 along with that of Meghalaya and Nagaland. (ANI)

Meet NDRF's Romeo-Julie Who Saved 6-Year-Old In Turkey

Meet NDRF’s Romeo-Julie Who Saved 6-Year-Old In Turkey

While India’s National Disaster Response Force miraculously rescued a six-year-old girl and made headlines, a lot of the credit for the daring rescue ought to be reserved for Romeo and Julie, part of the NDRF’s dog squad.

Romeo and Julie succeeded where machines failed. The dog squad was instrumental in detecting the little girl’s whereabouts under tonnes of rubble. Without their help, the little girl could not have survived.

The NDRF is currently making an all-out effort to save lives and find a living soul in the rubble at the disaster site at Nurdagi and in different parts of Turkey which were badly affected by the earthquake on February 6.

Dog handler Constable Kundan explained how Julie found the little girl, who has been identified as Beren, alive first in the rubble at the Nurdagi site.

“We were asked by our government to facilitate search and rescue operations here in Nurdagi and we had a lead about a survivor trapped in the rubble. We asked Julie to go inside the rubble. She went in and started barking, which was a sign that she had detected a survivor trapped underneath,” he told ANI.

“For reconfirmation, we have sent Romeo (Male Labrador) into the rubble and he also confirmed through barking that someone was, indeed, alive under the debris,” another NDRF dog attendant told ANI.

However, no one knew about the condition and age of the living soul at that time. After several hours of the rescue operation, NDRF personnel succeeded in saving the life of 6-year-old Beren.

A six-story building collapsed and turned into rubble at the Nurdagi site where the NDRF is conducting search and rescue operations. Locals informed NDRF about surviving victims inside the debris after which Julie and Romeo were tasked to locate the surviving victims. The task was assigned and they succeeded.

Appreciating NDRF for saving the girl, Home Minister Amit Shah later tweeted, ” Proud of our NDRF. In the rescue operations in Turkiye, Team IND-11 saved the life of a six-year-old girl, Beren, in Gaziantep city. Under the guidance of PM @narendramodi, we are committed to making @NDRFHQ the world’s leading disaster response force. #OperationDost.”

India announced ‘Operation Dost’ shortly after the magnitude 7.8 quake ravaged Turkey and sent a team from the Indian Army to set up 60 Para Field Hospital and the NDRF for search and rescue operations, including relief and humanitarian assistance to the ‘Dost’ country.

More than 34,000 people have lost their lives, so far, due to strong tremors from the earthquake and the search and rescue operation is ongoing even after 7 days. (ANI)

UP, Present Best Investment Destination: Anurag Praises Yogi

UP, Present Best Investment Destination: Anurag Praises Yogi

Praising the Yogi Adityanath government for giving priority to sports and cinema sectors for inviting investment in Uttar Pradesh, Union Minister Anurag Thakur on Sunday said that the state is presently the best investment destination in the country.

“No sector is deprived in Yogi Ji’s rule. With such great support of the state government itself, UP currently is the best investment destination,” Thakur said while addressing a session titled, ‘Media & Entertainment–The Indian Digital Growth Story’.
“In a way, UP is going to contribute one-fifth of the country. Be it through medals or films like RRR, sports and cinema are two sectors that break the boundaries of the country and make it proud. I’m thankful to CM Yogi for paying the required attention to both,” the Minister added.

Speaking about Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of promoting sports and developing sports infrastructure for the athletes, Thakur said that UP is moving ahead to fulfil the PM’s vision.

“When we talk about the creative economy in the world, India is the country that produces the maximum number of films. We must encourage film production in unexplored areas,” he said.

The Union Minister emphasised that animation, visual effects, gaming and comics is the new emerging sector.

“We must work towards it as we have a lot of potential not only in production but post-production,” he said.

Lauding the efforts of the state government, he said that film shooting in the entire state has not only been made easier but also the subsidies being offered are giving immense encouragement to the budding filmmakers.

“Jab Sarkar Khud Aap Ka Haath Pakad Kar Chalne Ko Taiyar Hai Toh Peeche Mat Hatiye (when the government itself is ready to walk holding your hand, do not back off),” he remarked.

“UP has not only dreamt but is also building a grand film city in an area of 1,000 acres. The government is also reviving musical gharanas in the state and is simultaneously promoting digital usage,” the Minister added.

Sharing his personal experience of shooting in Uttar Pradesh, Director KC Bokadia praised the environment in UP. He expressed gratitude to the team of ‘Film Bandhu’ for all the support and encouragement to the film industry.

BJP MP and actor Hema Malini said, “I thank Film Bandhu for inviting me and would like to congratulate CM Yogi and the entire administration for organising this summit and for inviting the legends from all the sectors in the summit. UP offers subsidies and has brought into effect many proposals to make filmmaking easier in the state.”

“Even when UP had beautiful locations, shooting wasn’t easy for us actors as there was no atmosphere of security. Today, under CM Yogi’s policy of ‘zero-tolerance’ against crime, the issue has permanently been resolved,” Malini added.

A short film made by ‘Film Bandhu’ showcasing the immense potential for filmmaking in Uttar Pradesh as well as having details about the subsidies given by the government was also screened on the occasion.

The session was attended by Mathura MP Hema Malini, Gorakhpur MP Ravi Kishen, KC Bokhadia, Madhur Bhandarkar, Satish Kaushik, and others. (ANI)

Rahul Asked To Respond To Breach Of Privilege Notice Over 'Derogatory' Remarks

Rahul Asked To Respond To Breach Of Privilege Notice Over ‘Derogatory’ Remarks

Lok Sabha Secretariat has sought Congress leader Rahul Gandhi’s reply on the breach of privilege notice given against him by Parliamentary Affairs Minister Pralhad Joshi and BJP MP Nishikant Dubey over “misleading, derogatory, unparliamentary and incriminatory statements” during discussion of the motion of thanks on the President’s address.

Rahul Gandhi has been asked to furnish his reply by February 15 for consideration by the Lok Sabha Speaker.
The communication by the Privileges and Ethics Branch of Lok Sabha Secretariat was sent to Rahul Gandhi on February 10.

“I am to request you kindly to furnish your reply/comments in the matter by February 15,2023,” said the letter written by a Lok Sabha official.

Rahul Gandhi, in his speech in the Lok Sabha on February 7, had made several allegations against the government over the Hindenburg-Adani row.

In his letter to the Lok Sabha Speaker, Dubey said the Congress MP made certain “unverified, incriminatory and defamatory statements” in contravention of the rules. He said Rahul Gandhi made these against Prime Minister Narendra Modi “without giving advance notice to the Speaker and also to the Prime Minister as required under Rule 353”.

“These statements are misleading, derogatory, indecent, unparliamentary, undignified and incriminatory in nature to the dignity of the House and Prime Minister being a Member of Lok Sabha. Rahul Gandhi, despite making statement in the House that he would provide documentary evidence, has not submitted any duly authenticated document for supporting his statements,” Dubey wrote.

“As such, he has made a statement which amounts to misleading of the House in the absence of any documentary evidence besides being a reflection upon the Prime Minister. This conduct is in clear violation of privileges of the House and its members besides being a clear case of contempt of the House,” the BJP MP added.

Joshi, who wrote a similar letter, said Rahul Gandhi’s remarks are liable to be expunged by the Speaker as these are “derogatory, indecent, unparliamentary and undignified”. (ANI)
