Some Elements Trying To Disrupt Peace On ISI’s Order: Punjab DGP

As the Waris Punjab De’ chief Amritpal Singh continued to be on run amid a crackdown, the Punjab Police on Thursday, said that it is ready to deal with any situation, and has adequately deployed forces in the state.

Talking to the reporters, here in Amritsar, Punjab DGP Gaurav Yadav said, “We are ready to deal with any situation. We will not let anyone disturb peace and harmony in the State. Some on orders from Pakistan’s ISI trying to disturb the atmosphere in the State, but the people of Punjab want peace”. He also said that deployment of forces is a routine thing for the police keeping in view the people’s convenience. “It (police deployment) is a very routine thing for us. During Darbar Sahib at Amritsar, we deploy heavy forces. 5000 personnel are deployed in Anandpur Sahib during Hola Mohalla,” he added.

However, the DGP refused to comment on the speculations regarding fugitive Amritpal surrendering on Friday. Meanwhile, on Monday, Amritpal’s close aide Papalpreet Singh was arrested in Amritsar’s Kathu Nangal and was taken to Assam’s Dibrugarh jail.

Papalpreet was seen with the fugitive Khalistan leader in several photographs that surfaced after the duo escaped the dragnet of state police.

In an unverified video on March 30, the ‘Waris Punjab De’ chief said he was not “a fugitive” and would soon “appear in front of the world”.

Further, in the video, the veracity of which could not be determined, Amritpal said those who think he ran away from his people or friends should “get that thing” out of their minds. Earlier, on March 18, Punjab Police launched an operation against Amritpal and his aides.

The Punjab Police had earlier, expressed doubts about Amritpal entering the Delhi border using any vehicle other than a bus. Following the input, Delhi Police raised an alert and stepped up efforts to track the fugitive radical preacher.

Amritpal has been on the run since March 18, the day Punjab Police launched a massive manhunt for him. The crackdown came almost over three weeks after Amritpal’s supporters stormed Ajnala police station in Amritsar on February 23, demanding the release of one of his aides, Lovepreet Toofan. (ANI)

Will Never Beg Money From Delhi: Mamata

West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Thursday said she would not mind begging but will never ask for money from the Bharatiya Janata party (BJP)-led Centre.

Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee inaugurated the state-of-the-art Dhanadhanyo Auditorium in Alipur in Kolkata.
Taking to Twitter, Banerjee said, “A proud moment as we inaugurate the Dhanadhanyo Auditorium, a state-of-the-art indoor facility built at a cost of Rs 440 crore. My sincere appreciation to the PWD for making this dream project a reality. This modern marvel is a symbol of progress and development in our state.”

Speaking on the occasion, Mamata said, “All my thoughts come from people. All I have in mind is that people should never misunderstand me. Maybe sometimes I do not have enough money to do good job. There may be other obstacles. It is being heard that we will not be given anything until 2024. If needed, I will beg for money spreading my aanchal but I will beg for money from Delhi.”

Last month, Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee sat on a dharna against the central government over the alleged blocking of state money.

She had said she would sit on a dharna near the Prime Minister’s residence in the national capital, if necessary.

She said the two-day dharna was staged to protest against the BJP-led central government’s alleged discriminatory attitude towards West Bengal. Mamata said she was sitting on dharna in her capacity as the TMC chief and not as the chief minister.

“I am working for people. I am fighting for the people whose money has been stopped for 100 days’ work. I am sitting for the rights of common people whose money has been blocked by the Centre. If required, Mamata can even sit on dharma near the PM’s house. I have the courage,” the Trinamool supremo had said.

“You have blocked the money by invoking a so-called Section 27. But remember, people will vote you out with section 420 in 2024. You will not come to power,” she had said. (ANI)

SC Slams Lalit Modi For His Remarks Against Judiciary

The Supreme Court on Thursday directed former IPL chairman Lalit Modi to tender an unconditional apology on social media platforms and national newspapers for his remarks against the judiciary.

A bench of Justices MR Shah and CT Ravikumar slammed Modi for his remarks and warned him that any repeat of such conduct will be viewed “very seriously”.
The bench observed that Modi is not above the law and the institution and also directed him to file an affidavit before it tenders an apology.

The affidavit has to state that no such posts on social media will be made in future which would be tantamount, even remotely, to tarnishing the image of the Indian judiciary, the apex court said.

While posting the matter for hearing on April 24, the bench said that it has gone through the counter affidavit filed by Modi and it was not at all satisfied with the explanation given.

Senior advocate CU Singh had filed the contempt plea against Modi saying he made a tweet on March 30, 2023 which tarnished the image of judiciary and made scandalous remarks against judges.

Earlier, the apex court while hearing an application in connection with remarks made by Modi against senior advocate and former Attorney General Mukul Rohatgi had orally observed that lawyers should not be involved in a family outburst.

It had orally instructed Lalit Modi’s counsel senior advocate Harish Salve to use his ‘good office’ and advise his client to take ‘remedial measures’.

Salve had told the bench that the post made against Rohatgi has been taken down.

Lalit Modi had made some comments on the Instagram post about Rohatgi. Later, through another post, he reportedly apologised to the senior advocate.

Former Attorney General and senior advocate Rohatgi is one of the counsels representing Bina Modi, mother of Lalit Modi, in the vexatious property dispute.

Senior advocate Kapil Sibal, appearing for Bina Modi, had submitted that there was an undertaking that there would be no posts while mediation was going on.

On January 19, the apex court agreed to examine a plea alleging former IPL chairman Lalit Modi made some “scurrilous” remarks in a social media post against Rohatgi and the judiciary.

In August 2022, the apex court-appointed former top court judge Justice RV Raveendran as a mediator to settle the family property dispute involving the former IPL head and his mother Bina Modi, wife of late industrialist KK Modi. (ANI)

Shinde Cried At Matoshree Fearing Jail: Aaditya

Uddhav Thackeray’s son and former Maharashtra Minister Aaditya Thackeray claimed that Chief Minister Eknath Shinde, before joining hands with Bharatiya Janata Party last year, “cried” at Matoshree fearing being jailed by the investigative agencies “if he did not ally with BJP”.

It is pertinent to mention that Eknath Shinde led a rebellion with over 40 MLAs in June last year which ultimately toppled the Uddhav Thackeray-led Maha Vikas Aghadi government in Maharashtra.
Shiv Sena (UBT) leader Sanjay Raut further certified Aaditya Thackeray’s claims, saying that “it is correct” and that Shinde had told him the same thing.

“Eknath Shinde cried after coming to Matoshree and said – If he does not go with BJP, he will be put in jail,” Thackeray had claimed on April 11.

Raut also claimed that fear of Eknath Shinde being jailed was “clearly visible” in his “mind and heart”.

“This is 100 per cent correct! Eknath Shinde had also said this after coming to me. I tried to make him (Shinde) understand.. But the fear of jail was clearly visible in his mind and heart. Aaditya is right,” Raut tweeted.

Speaking to the reporters, the Uddhav Thackeray faction leader said that Eknath Shinde had told him that he did not want to go to jail and asked him to break the alliance with the Congress and NCP.

“What Aaditya Thackeray is saying is completely true, the present Chief Minister (Eknath Shinde) also said the same after coming to my house that I do not want to go to jail, you break this alliance. …There is a pressure system going on all over the country but we need not fear. He (CM Eknath Shinde) said no, I am afraid that I will be put in jail, he was afraid of going to jail,” Raut claimed.

Retorting to Thackeray’s claims, Maharashtra Minister Deepak Kesarkar alleged that Aaditya Thackeray has a “professional team that teaches him how to lie”.

“There is a team that teaches him to lie. This is what happens in politics,” he said.

BJP leader Narayan Rane questioned Aaditya Thackeray to reveal when did Shinde visit Matoshree.

“I will not speak on that. He says anything. There is childishness in him. When did Shinde go? When did he cry? In which year did he cry? This is all nonsense,” he said. (ANI)

Doordarshan To Air Documentary On India’s Glory Under Modi

In continuation with the ‘Azaadi Ka Amrutkal’ theme, national broadcaster Doordarshan is set to soon launch a two-part series titled “Dharohar Bharat Ki”

The series that airs on April 14-15 will focus on the rich cultural, and historical heritage under the present Modi regime during which special emphasis has been placed on conserving India’s rich civilisational and cultural heritage, glorifying India’s freedom fighters, and the supreme sacrifice of India’s soldiers.
“Our soldiers devoted their entire lives and sacrificed their every being to safeguard every inch of our motherland. Their sacrifice cannot just be measured in words; its grandeur and import have to be brought made alive to inspire future generations,” Prime Minister Narendra Modi said in his interaction in the documentary.

Over the years the Modi government has laid an emphasis on showcasing India’s glorious heritage. Right from setting up the National War Memorial to honour the sacrifice of our soldiers to the Police Memorial as a mark of respect to the fallen policemen, has been to imbibe the clarion call by the prime minister.

Spiritual sites like Ram Janmabhoomi, Somnath Temple, Mahakal Temple Corridor, Kashi Vishwanath Temple Corridor, and Kartarpur Sahib Corridor have been some of the most prominent steps undertaken to protect India’s cultural and religious heritage.

The documentary will showcase the huge strides made by India in the last few years for the revival of our spirit of cultural unity and pride.

Ascertaining the security as well as the sanctity of venerable patriotic sites, such as the Jallianwallah Bagh; resuscitating the splendid fervour of our civilizational centres such as Ram Janmabhoomi, Kashi Vishwanath Dham; Somnath Dham and Kedarnath Dham; according to respect to such spiritual sites such as the Karatrpur Sahib; celebrating the lives of freedom fighters at inspirational sites such as the Cellular Jail; centre-staging the contribution of Netaji Bose through the grand Netaji statue at India gate canopy; and honouring the legendary contribution of our patriots – past and present – such as the War Memorial are some of the themes that the documentary will present.

“Bharat’s Renaissance” documentary is a reflection of this very idea. While our combined pride has rejuvenated us with a sense of belongingness especially over the last few years, it is imperative for the youth of today to fully understand the significance of the sacrifices of our freedom fighters and their honourable commemoration,” sources say on the idea behind this series.

In essence, the two-part documentary is a visually compelling showcase of India’s vast and vibrant culture, rejuvenating, embracing, and in doing so, celebrating our rich and diverse inheritance. (ANI)
