Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Friday, said that under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, India is achieving new heights of development and the world is looking up to the country.

On Friday, Union Home Minister Amit Shah inaugurated the Kaushmabi Mahotsav and also laid the foundation stone of various development projects.

The Chief Minister thanked Union Minister Amit Shah for giving an international platform to the traditional values of the region through ‘Kaushambi Mahotsav’.

“Under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the youth of the country is getting the inspiration to take part in sporting activities, live a healthy life and contribute to the development of the country,” he said.

“Our government is laying special focus on sports as well. We have set the target to make a playground in every village and a stadium in every district. PM Modi regularly says ‘Ek Bharat Shresth Bharat’. Every panchayat, Nagar Nikay, and Janpad should celebrate its foundation day. Today, I am able to witness the same level of excitement and enthusiasm in the public, that I had witnessed during the Kaushambi Mahotsav in 2018,” he said.

CM Yogi further added, “A lot of work has been done in the direction of connectivity. I noticed that the Ganga Expressway passes from here only (Kaushambi) towards Prayagraj. Now, the distance from Meerut to Prayagraj can be covered in less than eight hours. Similarly, one can also go to Delhi from Kaushambi in just eight hours.

The Chief Minister also stated that the preparations for the 2025 Kumbh in Prayagraj should start from now onwards, and said that the people and the officials should be involved and contribute towards it. (ANI)

Karnataka Congress chief Scrapping Of Muslims Quota

K’taka Cong Chief Promises To Cancel Scrapping Of Muslims Quota If Voted To Power

Karnataka Congress chief DK Shivakumar on Friday said that if the grand old party came to power in the assembly elections, it would cancel the scrapping of 4 percent Muslim quota by the ruling government.

In March, the Karnataka government decided to scrap the four per cent quota for minorities and add it to the existing quota of two dominant communities of the poll-bound state.
The 4 per cent reservation given to Muslims under 2B classification of the OBC category will now be divided into two equal parts and added to the existing quota of Vokkaligas and Lingayats for whom two new reservation categories of 2C and 2D were created during the Belagavi Assembly Session last year.

While talking to ANI, Shivakumar said, “Without any complications, we raised our two lists. BJP could not raise its list yet…More lists will come…As soon as our government comes, we will cancel the reservation issue and will protect the minority interest.”

On Thursday, Congress released the second list of 41 candidates for the upcoming Karnataka Assembly Election 2023 and also marked a seat for the regional outfit Sarvodaya Karnataka Party. The announcement was made following the meeting of the Congress Central Election Committee.

On Tuesday, Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai said that the Bharatiya Janata Party’s Parliamentary Board would finalise and release the list of candidates for the upcoming Assembly elections in the state on April 8.

The Chief Minister added that the selection of the candidates has been done based on winnability.

The Congress had on March 25 announced its first list of 124 candidates, which included names of former CM Siddaramaiah and State Party chief DK Shivakumar.

The Assembly election in Karnataka is scheduled to be held on May 10 and the counting of votes will take place on May 13. (ANI)

Israeli Worshippers near Al-Aqsa Mosque

Israeli Forces Break Up Worshippers Near Al-Aqsa Mosque

Amid a fresh upward spiral of violence after Israeli forces struck Gaza and Lebanon on Thursday night, the tensions in the region continue to escalate. In the latest incident, Israel’s military broke up a group of Palestinian worshippers near Al Aqsa Mosque today, Al Jazeera reported.

The worshippers apparently wanted to visit the Al-Aqsa Mosque in occupied East Jerusalem, to perform morning prayers on the third Friday of Ramadan.
However, the military intervention led to panic among people, who left the area as the incident occurred right after Israel’s military launched air attacks on southern Lebanon and the Gaza Strip following a spate of reported rocket attacks on the country, reported Al Jazeera.

Israeli forces stormed the Al-Aqsa Mosque in occupied East Jerusalem on separate days this week, using stun grenades and attacking Palestinians as they gathered for Ramadan prayers. This sparked an uptick in tensions.

Israel struck two targets in the Gaza Strip on Thursday night after a day of series of rockets fired from the Palestinian territory and Lebanon, according to The Times of Israel.

According to Israel Defence Force, it struck two tunnels — one located in the northern Gaza city of Beit Hanoun and the second near the southern Gaza city of Khan Younis.

The strikes were carried out in the response to “Hamas’ security violations” in recent days, IDF said referring to the rocket attacks from the Gaza Strip and a major rocket barrage from Lebanon on Thursday.

“The two tunnels did not cross into Israeli territory and did not pose a threat to Israeli civilians,” the military said.

Additionally, two sites allegedly used by Hamas to manufacture weapons were targeted in the strikes.

Following a day of rocket fire from the Palestinian territories and Lebanon in retaliation for Israel’s back-to-back military incursions into the Al Aqsa Mosque, the third-holiest site in Islam, the Israeli military has attacked besieged Gaza and southern Lebanon.

The tiny coastal region of Gaza is governed by Hamas, which claimed early on Friday that the blockaded territory had been subject to three airstrikes. (ANI)

Chidambaram One Nation One Election

Means Parliamentary Democracy Is Dead: Chidambaram

Congress veteran and former finance minister P Chidambaram on Friday slammed Tamil Nadu Governor RN Ravi over his “Bill is dead” remark, saying it means “Parliamentary Democracy is dead”.

Tamil Nadu Governor RN Ravi on Thursday, while interacting with the civil services aspirants, explained the role of the Governor in the Constitution, saying that he has the option to give assent or withhold a Bill passed by the Assembly, adding that the latter means that the “Bill is dead”.
In a tweet, Chidambaram said, “Governor, Tamil Nadu has given a strange & peculiar definition to the withholding of assent to Bills passed by the Legislature. He has said that it means the ‘Bill is dead’. Actually, when a Governor withholds assent for no valid reason, it means ‘Parliamentary Democracy is dead’.”

The Governor said “withholding” is a “decent language” used for rejecting a Bill.

Interacting with the civol services aspirants here, Ravi said the responsibility of the Governor is to protect the Constitution.

He also said the Governor looks into a Bill to check if it “transgresses the Constitutional limit” and if the state government has exceeded “its competence”.

“Our Constitution has created the position of Governor and defined his roles and responsibilities. The first and foremost responsibility of the Governor is to protect the Constitution of India because whether it is the Union or the State, each of these entities has to work according to the Constitution. How do you protect the Constitution? Suppose, a state makes a law that transgresses the Constitutional limit. In a legislature, a political party has a brute majority, let us say, they can pass any Bill,” he said.

“If it transgresses the Constitutional limit, the Bill passed by the Assembly does not become a law until the Governor assents to it. Assenting to is a constitutional responsibility. The Governor has to see if the Bill is exceeding the limit, and whether the state is exceeding its competence. If it does, then it is the responsibility of the Governor to not assent to the Bill,” Ravi added.

Explaining the procedure after a Bill, upon its passage, is forwarded by the Assembly to the Governor, Ravi said the latter has three options before him — assent, withhold or reserve the Bill for the President.

“The Constitution says that when a Bill passed by the Assembly is forwarded to the Governor for assent, the Governor has three options – assent, withhold the assent… Withholding does not mean that I am just holding it. Withholding has been defined by the Supreme Court by the Constitution Bench, withholding means the Bill is dead. It is a decent language used instead of using rejected. When you say withhold, it means the Bill is dead. Third, he reserves the Bill for the President,” the Tamil Nadu Governor said. (ANI)

Bandi Sanjay Kumar was detained after midnight on Wednesday from his residence in Karimnagar ahead of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to the state. Reportedly, a team of police reached the MP’s residence in Karimnagar and took him into custody.

This created a tense atmosphere as Bandi Sanjay’s supporters and party workers tried to stop the police.

Earlier the police registered a case against BJP leader Bandi Sanjay Kumar under sections 420 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC), 4(A), 6 T.S. Public Examinations (Prevention of Malpractices and 66-D ITA-2000-2008 at the Kamlapur police station of Warangal district.

Cong Now Prioritising Interest Of 2-3 Individuals: Anil Antony

Anil Antony, son of senior Congress leader and former Defence Minister AK Antony, who joined the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), on Thursday said Congress has now started ‘prioritising the interest of two-three individuals’.

Speaking to ANI, Anil Antony said, “This has been a very decisive decision in my life. A few months back, I quit Congress because there was a difference of opinion regarding a documentary (BBC), which I believe was an attack on our sovereignty and integrity.”
“Congress party now is not the Congress I knew when I was growing up. It is not even the party that existed five years back. Now Congress has lost all interest…Party now has started prioritising the interest of two- three individuals,” added Antony.

In another setback to Congress, former Defence minister AK Antony’s son Anil Antony joined BJP in Delhi on Thursday.

Anil Antony joined the BJP in the presence of Union Ministers Piyush Goyal and V Muraleedharan. Kerala BJP chief K Surendran and senior party leaders Tarun Chugh and Anil Baluni were also present at the occasion.

Anil Antony thanked Prime Minister Narendra Modi for his induction into BJP.

Taking to Twitter, Anil Antony said, “Thank you! Excited to start a new journey in life. Thank Narendra Modi ji, Amit Shah ji, JP Nadda ji, BL Santhosh ji and the BJP leadership for giving me the opportunity to join the party on its 44th foundation day and contribute towards the PM’s vision to transform India into a developed country by 2047. Thanking Piyush Goyal ji, V Muraleedharan ji and K Surendran ji for welcoming me into the party today evening.”

After joining BJP, Anil Antony met party chief JP Nadda along with Union Minister V Muraleedharan.

After Anil Antony joining BJP, his father and Congress veteran AK Antony said his son has taken a wrong move adding that the decision has pained him.

“I am pained by my son Anil’s decision to join the BJP. I strongly feel it is a very wrong decision. India’s base is unity and religious harmony. After 2014, the Modi government came to power, they are systematically diluting diversity and secularism,” AK Antony, who is considered as a close aide of the Gandhi family, told mediapersons in Thiruvananthapuram.

The former union minister alleged that BJP and Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) are destroying India’s constitutional ethos. He said he will be a Congress worker till his last breath.

“BJP believes only in uniformity. Till my last breath, I will oppose all the wrong policies of RSS and BJP. They are destroying the country’s constitutional values. I will die as a Congress worker. I am 82. I do not know how long I will live, ” added the Congress veteran.

The development comes months after Anil Antony, who was a Kerala Congress Social Media Team Coordinator, resigned from all posts of the Kerala Pradesh Congress Committee in January following the row over BBC’s documentary on the 2002 Gujarat riots and Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

He strongly criticised the BBC documentary on Prime Minister Narendra Modi, which was apparently a move against the party lines.

Anil Antony had hit out at the BBC terming it “a state-sponsored channel with a long history of prejudices” against India.

“Despite large differences with BJP, I think those in India placing views of BBC, a UK state-sponsored channel with a long history of prejudices, and of Jack Straw, the brain behind the Iraq war, over Indian institutions is setting a dangerous precedence, will undermine our sovereignty,” Antony tweeted.

He then alleged that he had received threatening calls and hate messages “through the night”.

While posting about his resignation on Twitter, Antony mocked the Congress party by saying that he received intolerant calls to retract a tweet by those “fighting for free speech”.

“I have resigned from my roles in @incindia, @INCKerala. Intolerant calls to retract a tweet, by those fighting for free speech. I refused. @facebook wall of hate/abuses by ones supporting a trek to promote love! Hypocrisy thy name is! Life goes on,” Anil K Antony said in a tweet.

The development comes a year before the 2024 Lok Sabha elections. (ANI)
