United Opposition 2024 Elections

Opposition Will Fight 2024 Election Unitedly: Sibal

Former Union Minister Kapil Sibal said on Saturday that the opposition is clear that it must stand united to bring down the BJP-led government in the 2024 Lok Sabha polls and expressed hope that all opposition will come together.

“All of us in the opposition are clear about one thing that we must stand united if we have to fight the 2024 elections and bring down this goverment…I hope all parties in opposition get together,” Sibal told ANI.

Opposition leaders have been holding parleys to put up a joint fight against the BJP in the next Lok Sabha polls. A meeting of opposition parties is slated later this month in Patna. However, the task of fighting together is riddled with challenges with some opposition parties competing with each other in some states.

Sibal also responded to Union Minister Giriraj Singh’s remark in which he termed Nathuram Godse, the assassin of Mahatma Gandhi, as “sapoot” of the country.

“Was Godse a good son according to Giriraj Singh?…RSS offered help to Britishers, how can they acknowledge Mahatma Gandhi? So this mindset is against principles of Mahatma Gandhi…,” said Sibal, a Rajya Sabha MP.

“What is the meaning of sapoot? Poot means ‘son’. Sapoot means ‘good son’. The constitution of India has also a responsibility towards the cabinet. That means Grirajji is speaking on behalf of the Government,” Sibal added.

Giriraj Sinh reportedly said that the assassin of Mahatma Gandhi “was not an invader like Mughal rulers Babar and Aurangzeb as he was born in India”.

He was replying to the query about remarks of AIMIM chief Asaduddin Owaisi related to Godse while reacting to Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis’s comment on Aurangzeb. (ANI)

Ileana Pregnancy

Ileana D’Cruz Pens Note On Pregnancy Bliss

Actor Ileana has been extremely tight-lipped about her personal life from the very beginning.

On Saturday, Ileana took to Instagram and treated her fans with a monochromatic fuzzy photo of herself with her mysterious man.

Sharing the photo, she penned down an appreciation note. She wrote, “Being pregnant is such a beautiful beautiful blessing… I didn’t think I’d be fortunate enough to ever experience this so I consider myself so incredibly lucky to be on this journey. I can’t even begin to describe how lovely it is to feel a life growing inside of you. Most days I’m just overwhelmed staring down at my bump going wow – I get to meet you soon and then there are some days that are so inexplicably hard. So trying.”

She added, “They’re overwhelming. All consuming. And things just feel hopeless. And there are tears. Then follows the guilt. And this voice in my head puts me down. I should be thankful, not be crying over something so trivial. I should be stronger. What kind of mother will I be if I’m not strong enough…And I don’t know what kind of mother I will be. I really don’t. All I know is that I love this little human so already I could explode. And for now – I think that’s enough.”

“And on the days I forget to be kind to myself, this lovely man has been my rock. He’s held me when he feels me starting to crack. And wipes the tears away. And cracks goofy jokes to make me smile. Or just offers a hug when he knows that’s exactly what I need in that moment.

And everything doesn’t seem so hard anymore”, she further added.

Her guy appeared to have a full beard and moustache, albeit his features are not clearly discernible. The silhouette of the couple in an intimate stance exudes affection.

Ileana’s cryptic post triggered curiosity among netizens

Earlier, the actor had surprised her fans by announcing that she was expecting her first child.

Earlier several reports suggested that Ileana is dating Katrina Kaif’s brother Sebastian Laurent Michel. The duo’s relationship rumours surfaced after the two were spotted vacationing with Vicky Kaushal and Katrina Kaif in the Maldives.

The couple has not yet made their relationship official.

Ileana was earlier in a relationship with photographer Andrew Kneebone for quite a few years.

Meanwhile, on the work front, Ileana was last seen in The Big Bull, co-starring Abhishek Bachchan. Filmmaker Kookie Gulati directed the film and Ajay Devgn produced it. She will be next seen in ‘Unfair And Lovely’ with Randeep Hooda. (ANI)

Odisha's Balasore Train

Scary Face of Indian Railway Accidents

Around 300 people were killed and over 1,000 injured in a train accident that took place in Odisha’s Balasore on the evening of June 2. In this accident, the Coromandel Express from Kolkata to Chennai derailed and in the meantime, the Yesvantpur-Howrah Express came there and hit the Coromandel and overturned. After the collision, the Coromandel Express collided with a freight train, in which the train’s engine was mounted on the bogie.

In an accident near Bahnaga Bazar station near Balasore, the first Coromandel Express derailed and this train collided with the Yashwantpur-Howrah Express coming from the other side, after which some coaches of Coromandel Express derailed and at the same time, a goods train Coromandel Express derailed. How terrible this train accident was can be guessed from the fact that the train broke the track, entered directly inside, and went beyond the bogie. This accident is one of the worst railway accidents in India since independence. After this painful accident someone’s hand, someone’s leg, someone’s head, and someone’s torso were cut off at the accident site.

Commissioner of Railway Safety (South Eastern Circle) A.M. Choudhary has been entrusted with the responsibility of investigating this train accident. However, according to preliminary indications, human error is believed to be behind the accident.

It is being said that after 16 months such a train accident has occurred in the country in which people have lost their lives. On January 14, 2022, 9 people died in an accident near Domohani in Jalpaiguri, West Bengal. After that 12 bogies of Bikaner-Guwahati Express going from Bikaner to Guwahati derailed. At the time of the accident, the speed of the train was slow, otherwise, the negligence of the railway system could have made the accident worse. At that time, it was said that this accident happened after 34 months. Although not actually the case, train accidents happen regularly and people fall victim to such accidents.

On January 2 this year, 13 coaches of the Bandra-Jodhpur Suryanagari Express derailed near Pali in Rajasthan, injuring 26 passengers. On 22 April 2021, the Lucknow-Chandigarh Express rammed into some vehicles at a crossing near Bareilly-Shahjahanpur, killing five people.

Earlier, on February 3, 2019, more than seven passengers were killed when 11 coaches of the Jogbani to Delhi Seemanchal Express derailed. Every time the screams of the dead in such accidents expose the shortcomings of the hollow rail system and put the entire railway system in a quandary, but even so, railway accidents do not stop.

The death of nearly three hundred innocent people in the age of science in the twenty-first century could not be more unfortunate than this. More than a thousand people have been injured and some will not recover from the trauma of the accident for the rest of their lives. There is talk of a high-level inquiry in this regard, but if there are any errors, they are certainly due to negligence. If vandalism is possible, why can’t we ensure the safe running of trains?

ALSO READ: Why India Has Frequent Train Tragedies

Now various announcements are being made, including a CBI investigation, but there is no denying that massive human error is at the root of one of the biggest accidents in the country. The government is saying that the culprits will be punished severely, but can the top leadership of the Railway Ministry escape from its responsibility? Shouldn’t the political leadership have the courage to follow ethics like Lal Bahadur Shastri? The question is also why, even after seven decades of independence, we have not been able to bring the country’s railway network under an armored system, which can be effective in preventing head-on collisions between trains. In such a situation, how safe will the goal of making high-speed railways be in the country? This is a question.

This series of train derailments has been going on for decades, in reality, we are not learning any lessons from past accidents. In the past few decades, political parties used to compete to get the railway ministry, so that it could achieve political goals. The BJP, which had formed the government at the Center with an absolute majority for the last two times, was expected to take effective measures to secure rail travel. There has been talk of promoting privatization by running high-speed trains. Certainly, the new experiments may hurt the functioning of the central business. The entire country’s railway system demands well-planned and safe operation.

Any kind of decentralization can create inconsistencies in this way. Safe train operation should be the priority. Only then such terrible accidents can be avoided. Post-accident aid and rescue compensation announcements are being made. But our priority should be to run railways in such a way that there is no scope for accidents. The culprits should be punished so severely that they become an example. So that again no mistake can cost hundreds of lives.

Instead of cheap rail service, there should be deep security that will protect the lives of all passengers. There is a need to rid the country’s railway system of the culture of negligence and irresponsibility. India’s railway system is one of the largest public enterprises in the world, considered a lifeline for the common man. Despite the expansion of air and road routes in the country, a large population of the country still depends on the railway network for transportation.
Millions of people not only travel by rail, but it is the largest means of transportation of goods.

Despite this, train accidents have often occurred due to insufficient attention being paid to the maintenance and safety of this gigantic system. The railways need more than Rs 20,000 crore a year to maintain such a huge system, but experts are raising questions about its allocation. To strengthen and modernize the railway system, the railway budget was merged with the general budget by the central government, but to date, not much has been achieved. Every year, the budget is presented, with claims made for the improvement of railway tracks, strengthening of safety equipment, and smooth and safe railway travel.

The most important question is why railway accidents are still not under control under such circumstances. On the one hand, we boast of running bullet trains in the country, but on the other hand, we are not particularly interested in de-cluttering the already existing elaborate railway system. However, the list of frequent train accidents is long, but what is worrying is that a committee is appointed to investigate each such incident and then the incident is forgotten waiting for the next incident. No one knows what the investigation into all such accidents so far has led to.

Pakistan Forced Conversion

Outrage Over Minor Hindu Girl’s Conversion, Marriage In Pakistan

The Sindh Assembly saw a heated debate over the alleged kidnapping of a teenage Hindu girl, named Sohna Sharma.

Mukesh Kumar Chawla, the provincial minister, gave the house assurances that the government would take the required steps to invoke and enforce the applicable laws.

He clearly asserted that no one should be forced to convert under pressure while emphasising the fundamental right of people to freely select their religion.

The assembly session under the leadership of Speaker Agha Siraj Durrani began after a two-hour delay. Lal Chand, a PPP MPA, voiced his outrage at the purported kidnapping of Sohna Sharma, 14, who is a member of the minority Hindu community.

Chand claimed that the minority populations’ voices were being silenced even on the most minor issues after the speaker told him to raise his concerns later. Chand was silenced when the speaker responded by turning off his microphone.

Later, Chand informed the lawmakers that Sharma, a 14-year-old member of their community, had been kidnapped in Qazi Ahmad. Her nikahnama (marriage certificate), which proved that she had wed a man of her choosing, was then produced.

Pakistan, which is already struggling with the adverse political and economic situation and continues to bear the brunt of forced marriages and conversions, Human Rights Without Frontiers reported.

Human Rights Without Frontiers is a Europe-based organization that tracks incidents worldwide where people are imprisoned for exercising their right to freedom of religion or belief.

According to the data compiled by one of Christian Solidarity Worldwide’s (CSW) local partners in Pakistan, the Centre for Social Justice, 202 incidents were recorded and documented between 2021 and 2022. Almost all of them took place within the Sindh and Punjab provinces.

Out of 202 cases, 120 Hindu women and girls, 80 Christians and 2 Sikhs. The figures show that girls from “low” caste Hindu communities are the most at-risk group. And among those figures, only 20 were confirmed to be over 18 years old and 133 were under 18 (including 55 under 14 years old). In the remaining 49 cases, the age was unknown or unconfirmed.

In the data, CSW said a Hindu woman named Pooja Kumari was 18-years-old, when on March 21, 2022, three men made an intrusion into her home, near the Chhuahra Mandi area of Sukkur in Sindh. One of the men is said to have asked Kumari to marry him but when she refused, he and the others attempted to abduct her. As she resisted, they shot her, according to Human Rights Without Frontiers.

Earlier, on October 26, 2022, six UN Special Rapporteurs, including the Special Rapporteur on Freedom of Religion or Belief, and the Working Group on the discrimination against women and girls released a common statement from which Jonathan de Leyser excluded qualifying words such as “allegedly” and “reportedly” when he quoted a part of it “because these are all facts that CSW could confirm.”

“These women and girls are then (reportedly) forced by their abductors to appear before courts and give testimony and/or sign official documents which attest to their being of age and having married and converted to Islam of their own free will. This coercion (reportedly) takes place under the threat of violence against them or their families. Perpetrators of these offences (are alleged to) enjoy a significant degree of impunity, enabled in part by the actions of the security forces and the justice system,” Jonathan de Leyser said. (ANI)
