“I would say my proudest accomplishment thus far in comedy is performing on ‘Jimmy Kimmel Live,'” Nanda told VC Reporter in a 2018 interview. “I’ve always wanted to do a set on late night, and ‘Jimmy Kimmel’ was my first choice. So the fact that it came together kind of blew my mind. I’ve performed on other networks like Comedy Central, Hulu, Viceland, etc., but ‘Jimmy Kimmel’ was the first place I performed where my parents were a fan of the host.”

Neel also hosted the weekly show “Unnecessary Evil” at the Westside Comedy Theater in Los Angeles, which was named one of the Top 10 stand-up comedy shows at the time in the city by LA Weekly. (ANI)

Modi’s YouTube Channel Crosses 2 Cr Subscribers; Highest Among Global Leaders

Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s YouTube channel on Tuesday crossed 2 crore subscriptions and is the highest amongst top global leaders.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi is the only world leader to have achieved this distinction of having 2 crore subscribers on his personal YouTube channel and leads other global and Indian contemporaries by a long distance.

In fact, the global leader with the second-most followers is former Brazilian President Jair Bolsanora, who just has 64 lakh subscribers, which is a little less than one-third of the subscribers the Narendra Modi YouTube channel has.

Brazil President Jair Bolsonaro ranks second after PM Modi on the list of global leaders with the highest subscriptions on their YouTube channel, with a total of 64 lakh subscribers, which is a little less than one-third of the subscribers the Narendra Modi YouTube Channel has.

Steadily following behind is Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy with 1.1 million.

Similarly, with 22.4 crore views in December 2023, the Narendra Modi YouTube channel has 43 times more views than the YouTube channel of Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, who is the global leader with the second highest number of views in his YouTube channel.

With 4.5 billion (450 crore) video views, the Narendra Modi Channel leads the pack in terms of subscribers, video views and the quality of videos being posted by political leaders on YouTube.

For many years running now, many global surveys like Morning Consult have rated Prime Minister Narendra Modi as the most popular global leader, with upwards of 75 percent approval rating, far above his global contemporaries.

Narendra Modi’s YouTube channel, both in terms of views and subscribers, has far surpassed the YouTube channels of his global contemporaries.

Narendra Modi’s YouTube channel dominance mirrors his political dominance in the country and abroad.

The video views recorded by the Narendra Modi YouTube channel and its subscribers are light years ahead of the views and subscribers of the YouTube channels of other Indian political leaders and parties. (ANI)

'An Expert In Betrayal': Congress Slams Nitish Kumar

Khule Mann, Band Muhh: Jairam On INDIA Seat-Sharing Talks

Amid the continuing suspense over a seat-sharing agreement between the partners in the Opposition alliance — INDIA, Congress leader Jairam Ramesh on Tuesday said talks would be held with an ‘open mind’.

Speaking to ANI on Monday, Ramesh, the Congress general secretary in charge of communications, said, “
Khule mann aur band muh se hi hum seat sharing pe baat aage chalaenge
(We will carry forward seat-sharing talks with an open mind and refraining from public statements).”

The Congress leader added that different states would pose different challenges with regard to advancing seat-sharing talks and the discussions, hence, be held, taking all aspects into consideration.

“The seat-sharing talks are ongoing and will continue. We will do what needs to be done. There are different conditions and challenges in different states. We will be having discussions on seat sharing, keeping in mind the different (political) realities there,” Ramesh said.

While the INDIA partners came together for their fourth meeting in the national capital recently, the potentially thorny issue of seat-sharing was left unaddressed.

The veteran Congress leader said his party will hold a mega rally in Nagpur on December 28 in which it will formally blow the bugle for the Lok Sabha elections next year.

“As far as the Congress is concerned, there will be a mega rally in Nagpur on December 28 with the theme ‘Hai Tayyar Hum’. We will formally sound the bugle for the Lok Sabha elections from that rally,” Ramesh said.

He added that the Congress was taking the INDIA alliance seriously and was ready for seat-sharing discussions.

“We are taking all things discussed in the INDIA meeting very seriously. The meeting lasted three hours. Party president Mallikarjun Kharge and MP Rahul Gandhi clearly stated that we are ready for seat sharing and want the INDIA partners to be united and strong. That is why our slogan says ‘Badlega Bharat, Jitega India’. Congress will do everything it possibly can to win,” Ramesh said.

On whether the Congress was looking to play the role of a big brother in the Opposition alliance, Ramesh said, “No, we are not the big brother here. We are the same as all fellow partners in the alliance. It’s true that we are a big party and we recognise the responsibilities that come along with it. But we want to take everyone along.”

“We are all working towards accomplishing one goal — to protect the Constitution and democracy and rid the people of unemployment and inflation. This is our goal. We want to fight our battle unitedly against economic inequality, social polarisation and dictatorship,” Ramesh added.

On Congress leader Priyanka Gandhi Vadra being relieved from the post of AICC in-charge of UP Congress, Ramesh added, “I cannot say anything on an individual. Priyanka Gandhi is the general secretary of AICC and she has had a major role in our election campaigns in Chhattisgarh, Telangana, Rajasthan, and Madhya Pradesh.”

“I am sure that she will have the same role in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections as well. We, our party and our party workers, hope that her role will be as active as it was in our electoral campaigns for Chhattisgarh, Telangana, Rajasthan and Madhya Pradesh polls,” Ramesh added. (ANI)

Shiv Sena (Uddhav Thackeray faction) WFI

Sena (UBT) Mouthpiece Jabs Centre Over Suspension Of Wrestling Federation

Saamana, the official mouthpiece of Shiv Sena (Uddhav Thackeray faction), on Tuesday took potshots at the Centre over an official release by the Union Ministry for Sports and Youth Affairs, suspending the Wrestling Federation of India (WFI).

In its latest editorial, Saamana invoked the protests by wrestlers, who came out against former WFI president and BJP leader Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh, accusing him of sexual harassment.

The protests got bigger, eventually prompting Delhi Police to file FIRs and open an investigation against the sitting BJP MP. He was also asked to step away from the day-to-day functioning of the country’s top wrestling body before fresh elections to the federation were announced.

However, in the face of renewed protests by star grapplers Sakshi Malik and Bajrang Punia in light of the WFI polls, claiming that the Centre went back on its word not to elect anyone close to Brij Bhushan as the top office-bearer of the federation, the Union Sports Ministry on Sunday announced the suspension of the top wrestling body.

With the suspension of the sport’s top governing body in the country, key office-bearers of the federation, including newly elected president Sanjay Singh, a known aide of the former WFI chief, were also suspended.

Taking a dig at the Centre, the Saamana editorial welcomed the dawning of better sense and wisdom, though belatedly.

“Sakshi Malik, Bajrang Punia and other wrestlers who have brought glory to the country at the international level have been fighting against the misrule of former federation president and MP Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh for a year and have been raising their voices against the sexual exploitation of our women wrestlers. They resorted to every manner of protest in their relentless pursuit of justice for the victimised wrestlers. However, the government, under the leadership of PM (Narendra) Modi continued to turn a deaf ear to their cries for justice. Last year, a protest by women wrestlers at Delhi’s Jantar Mantar was broken up by the police. The police cracked down on peaceful protesters in the middle of the night and used force to crush their movement for justice,” the editorial read.

“Could the Modi government have allowed the controversy surrounding the national wrestling federation to hurt its prospects in the forthcoming Lok Sabha elections? However, the Centre had been paying lip service to the wrestlers and was not sympathetic to their movement and demands. Brij Bhushan continued to have the blessings of the ruling party. However, sensing a grim fallout with the elections around the corner, the Modi government came to a belated realisation and suspended the newly elected president of the wrestling federation, Sanjay Singh. Had there been more time for the general elections, the government would have still been in a state of slumber in the matter,” the editorial read.

However, it added that though the suspension of the WFI marks a major victory for the wrestlers, their struggle must continue and they mustn’t stop fighting for justice.

“The suspension of the National Wrestling Federation along with the new office bearers has brought a measure of relief to the protesting wrestlers but the struggle for the larger cause must continue. The wrestlers and the lovers and followers of the sport mustn’t stop at this. Brij Bhushan, who came under the scanner over his actions, has mellowed down and his influence has reduced as well. This is a good sign for Indian wrestling. However, the suspension of the national wrestling federation is the only first victory in a long struggle,” the editorial read.

The decision to suspend the sport’s premier governing body in the country came close on the heels of newly elected WFI president Sanjay Singh announcing the hosting of the U-15 and U-20 nationals at Nandini Nagar in the Gonda district of Uttar Pradesh by the end of the year.

Further, the Union Sports Ministry on Sunday instructed the Indian Olympic Association (IOA) to form an ad-hoc committee to manage and control the affairs of the Wrestling Federation of India (WFI), as per a source from the ministry.

Earlier, Olympian Sakshi Malik announced her retirement from wrestling at an emotional press briefing, claiming that the Centre went back on its word to not install an aide of Brij Bhushan as an office-bearer of the wrestling federation.

Later, voicing his misgivings over the election of Sanjay Singh as the new WFI chief, fellow Olympian Bajrang Punia returned his Padma Shri in protest.

The star wrestlers earlier led a protest by wrestlers who came out against Brij Bhushan, accusing him of sexual harassment. (ANI)

Brazil tragic plane crash

Flights Disrupted At Delhi Airport As Visibility Drops To Zero

Flight operations were severely affected at the Indira Gandhi International Airport in Delhi as visibility dropped to 50 meters on Tuesday.

According to airport sources, the 50-meter visibility is considered zero visibility. There was a slight improvement in visibility at 8.30 am when visibility was 75 meters, but it again dropped to 50 meters.

“Flight operations have been affected as many flights got delayed due to weather conditions. There might be certain diversions,” according to airport sources.

As of now five flights got diverted to Jaipur since 8.30 – 10 am due to weather conditions at Delhi airport, the sources said.

Meanwhile, Delhi Airport again issued a passenger advisory on the second consecutive day.

“While landings and take-offs continue at Delhi Airport, flights that are not CAT III compliant may get affected. Passengers are requested to contact the airline concerned for updated flight information. Any inconvenience caused is deeply regretted,” reads the advisory issued by Delhi Airport.

The airport authorities initiated the anti-fog landing system, technically called the CAT-lll Instrument Landing System (ILS). The CAT IlI system helps with a precision approach and landing when the runway visibility level is low.

Meanwhile, the winter chill continues to grip North India, as cities such as Prayagraj, Ghaziabad and Meerut in Uttar Pradesh and Moga in Punjab faced cold waves, engulfed in dense fog on Tuesday morning.

The IMD on Tuesday morning released satellite images showing a layer of fog spreading over Punjab, Haryana, Delhi, Uttar Pradesh and Madhya Pradesh.

The Delhi-NCR region was also covered with a dense layer of fog on Tuesday morning, as the temperature dropped to almost 7 degrees in the national capital, according to the India Meteorological Department.

The IMD also warned of possible health impacts on people due to the dense fog in the national capital.

“Dense fog contains particulate matter and other pollutants and in case exposed it gets lodged in the lungs, clogging them and decreasing their functional capacity which increases episodes of wheezing, coughing and shortness of breath,” IMD said in a release on Monday.

The IMD release further stated that the fog conditions may tend to irritate the membranes of the eye causing various infections leading to redness or swelling of the eye. (ANI)

President Assent to Three Bills

President Gives Assent To Bills Replacing IPC, CrPC, Evidence Act

President Droupadi Murmu on Monday gave her assent to three new criminal justice Bills enacting them into laws that replace the colonial laws namely the IPC, the CrPC and the Evidence Act.

The three new criminal laws will be called Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita 2023, Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita 2023, and Bharatiya Sakshya Adhiniyam 2023.

The move comes days after the Parliament passed the three criminal bills — the Bharatiya Nyaya (Second) Sanhita Bill, the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha (Second) Sanhita Bill and the Bharatiya Sakshya (Second) Bill.

Giving prominence to crimes against women and children, murder and crimes against the nation; these three Bills were passed by the Lok Sabha and the Rajya Sabha in the recently concluded Winter Session of Parliament.

The Indian Penal Code (IPC) has been replaced with the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, the CrPC with Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita and the Indian Evidence Act has been replaced with the Bharatiya Sakshya Adhiniyam.

Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita will have 358 sections (instead of 511 sections of IPC). A total of 20 new crimes have been added to the Bill, and imprisonment sentences have been increased for 33 crimes. The amount of fine has been increased in 83 crimes and mandatory minimum punishment has been introduced in 23 crimes. The penalty of community service has been introduced in six crimes and 19 sections have been repealed or removed in the Bill.

Bharatiya Nagrik Suraksha Sanhita will have 531 sections (in place of 484 sections of CrPC). A total of 177 provisions have been changed in the Bill and nine new sections as well as 39 new sub-sections have been added to it. The draft act has added 44 new provisions and clarifications. Timelines have been added to 35 sections and audio-video provision has been added at 35 places. A total of 14 sections have been repealed and removed in the Bill.

Bharatiya Sakshya Adhiniyam will have 170 provisions (instead of the original 167 provisions, and a total of 24 provisions have been changed. Two new provisions and six sub-provisions have been added and six provisions have been repealed or deleted in the Bill.

Piloting the three Bills in the Rajya Sabha Union Home Minister Amit Shah on December 21 had said that it was the “beginning of a new era” as “the purpose of these bills is to give justice not the punishment.”

“For the first time in history”, Shah had said that the three bills would free people from a colonial mindset as the British government considered protections against treason and treasury more important than murder or atrocities against women.

The Minister had said that complete implementation of new criminal laws will ensure an end to ‘tareekh pe tareekh’ era and justice will be given in three years.”

Shah had also said the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita has introduced a new chapter titled ‘Crimes against women and children’ to deal with sexual crimes, and that the bill is proposing changes in the provisions related to the rape of women below 18 years of age.

Provision related to gang rape of a minor woman to become consistent with the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act (POCSO), and a provision has been made for life imprisonment or the death penalty in the case of girls below 18 years of age, said the Minister on Thursday.

There is provision of 20 years imprisonment or life imprisonment in all cases of gang rape and new crime category of gang rape of a woman under 18 years of age, he said, adding “the Bill provides for targeted penalties for persons fraudulently engaging in sexual intercourse or promising to marry without true intention to marry.”

As per the Minister, terrorism has been defined for the first time in the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, and it has been made a punishable offence.

In Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita Sectiin 113. (1), it is clearly mentioned that “whoever, with intent to endanger or is likely to endanger the unity, integrity, sovereignty, security or economic security or sovereignty of India or to cause or spread terror among the public or any section of the public in India or in any foreign country, commits any act using bombs, dynamite, explosive substances, poisonous gases, nuclear with intent to cause death to any person or persons, damage to property, or manufacture or smuggling of currency or so, he commits terrorist acts”.

In the Bill, terrorist acts are punishable by the death penalty or life imprisonment without parole. A range of terrorist offences have also been introduced in the Bill and it is pointed out that destroying public facilities or private property is a crime. Acts that cause ‘widespread loss by reason of damage or destruction of critical infrastructure’ are also covered under this section.

A new criminal section related to organized crime has been added to the Bill, and organized crime has been defined for the first time in Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita 111. (1). Illegal activity done by syndicate has been made punishable.

The new provisions include armed rebellion, subversive activities, separatist activities or any act threatening the sovereignty or unity and integrity of India. Small organized crimes have also been criminalized, punishable with imprisonment of up to seven years.

In organized crime, if a person is killed, the Bills says, the accused can be sentenced to death or life imprisonment. A fine will also be imposed, which will not be less than Rs 10 lakh. Provision for punishment has also been made for those who help in organized crime.

On mob lynching, Shah had said a new provision on crime related to murder committed on the basis of race, caste and community has been included, for which a provision of life imprisonment or death penalty has been made.

A new provision related to snatching also. There will now be more severe penalties for serious injuries that result in near-disability or permanent disability.

The practice of filing zero FIR has been institutionalized. The First Information Report (FIR) can be lodged anywhere, irrespective of the area in which the crime took place.

Victim’s right to information has been ensured in these laws. Victim has the right to get a copy of the FIR free of cost. There is also a provision to inform the victim about the progress of the investigation within 90 days.

The timeline has been added in 35 sections of Bharatiya Nagrik Sukraksha Sanhita, which will make the speedy delivery of justice possible. The Bill prescribes a time limit for initiation of criminal proceedings, arrest, investigation, charge sheet, proceedings before magistrate, cognizance, charges, plea bargaining, appointment of Assistant Public Prosecutor, trial, bail, judgment and punishment, and mercy petition.

This process of reform in the three laws of the criminal justice system was started in 2019 and 3,200 suggestions in this regard were received from various stakeholders. Union Home Minister Amit Shah held more than 150 meetings and these suggestions were thoroughly discussed in the Home Ministry. (ANI)
