Kin Of Ayodhya Idol Creator Arun Yogiraj Chants ‘Ram Japa’ Ahead Of Jan 22 ‘Pran Pratishtha’

With less than a week to the grand enthronement of Shri Ram Lalla in Ayodhya, the family members of Arun Yogiraj, the Mysure sculptor who shaped the idol, chanted ‘Ram Japa’ at his residence on Tuesday.

The black-stone idol of Ram Lalla, exquisitely sculpted by the Mysuru sculptor, was eventually selected for enthronement at the grand temple in Ayodhya.

“The Murti sculpted on Krishna Shila, by renowned sculptor Arun Yogiraj, has been selected as Shri Vigraha of Bhagwan Shri Ramlalla Sarkar,” read a post on the official X handle of Shri Ram Janmbhoomi Teerth Kshetra earlier.

Shri Ram Janmabhoomi Teerth Kshetra is the trust entrusted with the construction and management of the grand temple in Ayodhya.

Yogiraj’s mother Saraswathi had earlier expressed her delight over her son’s piece of creation being shortlisted for the grand enthronement on January 22.

Earlier, sharing insights into Yogiraj’s exquisite craftsmanship, Champat Rai, general secretary of Shri Ram Janmabhoomi Teerth Kshetra, spoke glowingly of his skills and his dedication to the job.

Rai informed that the Mysuru sculptor did not even talk to his family members for months to avoid any disturbance in his work.

He didn’t so much as catch a glimpse of his children till the time he was engrossed he was engrossed in shaping the idol, Rai informed.

“You cannot even imagine how Arun Yogiraj spent his days while working on the idol. He did not touch his phone for months and didn’t even speak to his children and family,” Rai said.

He added that the Yogiraj family has been shaping idols over many generations.

The ace sculptor earlier carved the statue of Shankaracharya in Kedarnath and also shaped the statue of Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose below the iconic India Gate at Delhi’s Kartavya Path.

Earlier, on Monday, Rai announced that the idol of Lord Ram will be placed in its rightful place at the ‘Garbh Griha’ (sanctum sanctorum) of the temple on January 18 and the ‘Pran Pratishtha’ (ceremonial enthronement) will take place at 12.20 pm on January 22.

Addressing a press conference, Rai said the muhurat (auspicious timing) was decided by Ganeshwar Shastri Dravid of Varanasi.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to attend the grand inauguration of the Ram Temple on January 22.

The formal procedures for pre-Praan Pratishtha sacraments will start on January 16 and continue until January 21. (ANI)

domestic sugar production

India Imposes 50% Export Duty On Sugar-Derivative Molasses

The central government has imposed a 50 per cent export duty on molasses, amid a possibility of a decline in domestic sugar production in the current season.

The proposed export duty shall come into force on January 18, 2024, an official notification from the Ministry of Finance said.

Molasses are a by-product of sugar which is utilised for ethanol production to promote a green economy.

Of the total ethanol produced in the country, ethanol from cane juice notably accounts for 25-30 per cent while that from B heavy molasses accounts for over 60-65 per cent. Ethanol from C-heavy molasses and grains accounts for the rest.

The Food Ministry in early December directed sugar mills not to use cane juice or syrup to produce ethanol.

The central government in mid-December, however, allowed the utilisation of juice as well as B-heavy molasses to produce the ethanol but capped the diversion of sugar at 17 lakh tonnes for the current marketing season.

India has already rolled out 20 per cent blended fuel, though, in a phased manner, in April 2023 and widespread availability is expected in days to come.

E20 blending in petrol was introduced by the Centre to reduce the country’s oil import cost, energy security, lower carbon emissions and for better air quality.

The government had advanced the target of E20 fuel from 2030 to 2025. (ANI)

Gyanvapi-Kashi Vishwanath Temple: SC Allows Cleaning Of ‘Wazukhana’ Where ‘Shivling’ Was Found

The Supreme Court on Tuesday allowed an application of Hindu women petitioners seeking direction for cleaning the entire area of ‘wazukhana’ of Gyanvapi mosque where the alleged ‘Shivling’ was found and maintaining hygienic condition.

A bench of Chief Justice of India DY Chandrachud, Justices JB Pardiwala and Manoj Misra said the area of ‘wazukhana’ shall be cleaned under the supervision of district administration Varanasi, having regard to the previous orders of the apex court.

Gyanvapi mosque management committee said it supports cleaning of the water tank, which has remained sealed on apex court’s orders for nearly two years.

‘Wazukhana’ is the reservoir where devotees perform ablutions before offering namaz.

The application said fishes in the water tank died between December 12 to 25, 2023 and due to the same, there is a putrid smell emitting from the tank.

“Since there exists Shivlingam which is sacred to Hindus and should be kept away from all dirt, grime, dead animals, etc. and must be in clean condition, is currently in the midst of dead fish which is hurtful to the sentiments to the devotees of Lord Shiva,” the application stated.

The application filed through advocate Vishnu Shankar Jain said fishes in the water tank have died and due to the same, there is a putrid smell emitting from the tank.

It is further submitted that the Committee of Management Anjuman Intezamia Masjid which manages the mosque in the Gyanvapi complex is responsible for the condition of fish due to which they have died.

“In case, the fishes would had been transferred as requested by District Magistrate, Varanasi the present unfortunate situation would have not occurred,” the application said while seeking direction to clean ‘wazukhana’.

The area of ‘wazukhana’ was sealed in 2022 on a Supreme Court order after the discovery of what was said to be a ‘Shivling’.

A structure — claimed to be a “Shivling” by the Hindu side and a “fountain” by the Muslim side — was found in the mosque premises on May 16, 2022, during a court-mandated survey of the mosque located next to the Kashi Vishwanath temple.

The ‘Wazu’ area of the Gyanvapi mosque is the centre of the Gyanvapi mosque-Kashi Vishwanath temple dispute between Hindus and Muslim parties in the case since the Hindu parties claim that ‘Shivling’ has been found in that spot, however, the Muslim side disputed the same and said that it is only a water fountain. Remission To Bilkis Rapist

‘Remission to Rapists Shouldn’t Have Been Granted in the First Place’

Swati Goswami, an Ahmedabad-based writer and human rights activist, says the Bilkis Bano case is a glaring example of how the BJP operates to skirt the law. Her views

Rape is an act of vengeance and violence against an individual’s refusal, or, against the identity of a community. Remission of rapists without the consent of the victim/survivor is a fraud. Just like a rapist misuses physical power, the State misused its power brazenly to remit the rapists and murderers of Bilkis Bano and her family.

Was Bilkis consulted before remitting her 11 rapists? Did the convicts apologise and plead forgiveness for their heinous crimes? The answer is an emphatic NO. With the power to remit comes the responsibility to involve the survivor for reformative justice. Remission has to be reasonable, which in this case is far from reality. What if the convicts had tried to harm the family again? Who would have been responsible? If a misleading writ petition can result in a two-judge bench changing the decision, how can we trust the judicial system?

I am extremely happy for Bilkis, her dogged resilience, her strength of character, and her undeservingly long and protracted struggle for justice. However, I won’t congratulate the Supreme Court for revoking the remission order because the remission should never have been permitted in the first instance! How could the remission plea be heard with such ignorance by the highest court of the land for such a horrific crime? How could they not know that the crime was a part of the widespread and vicious communal violence of 2002 in Gujarat, which has not only been a barbaric event in itself, but which has also resulted in what the country is paying for since 2014? The resulting social and communal polarization in Gujarat literally propelled Narendra Modi as the next chief minister yet again, and, eventually, as the prime minister of India.

The very reason this case was moved out of Gujarat was because a free and fair trial wouldn’t have been possible here. Then, how could the court take the government at face-value?

I won’t actually blame the Gujarat government because that is how the BJP operates. That is why the case was moved to Maharashtra. The Gujarat riots and its modus-operandi, targeting one community, are well documented — that is why Bilkis was raped and her family killed.

We expect no sensitivity and justice from them. However, the judges, as the final custodians of justice, what were they thinking? This is about a gang-rape survivor, her little child who was smashed to death, her murdered family and her entire community! Where is the seriousness of the law?

Are we to believe that a pregnant gang-rape survivor will not get justice unless five other women file separate petitions? Bilkis moved the court against the remission after one of the convict’s challenged the other petitions by “complete strangers”. Why should she fight alone? It was not a personal crime. It was a social crime with the BJP brass as its naked back-dancers — performing in front of the whole country.

The story of Bilkis is not a women’s issue, even though only women came forward to undo the injustice. It is about the ugly binaries of this country, especially in the contemporary era.

ALSO READ: ‘Bilkis Banop’s Rapists Were Lionized’

Bilkis won, not once but twice, against the highest level of political, communal and patriarchal violence. What she managed to achieve is incredible, especially as a Muslim woman in India, especially in such bleak and difficult times. I cannot even begin to imagine her rage at the sight of her rapists being felicitated or called ‘Sanskari’. Bilkis stood firm against the entire might of the political system and fought each time it tried to violate her.

And we must not forget her husband, Yakub, who stood by her throughout the unimaginable trauma. In a society, where men rarely stand against their own families for their wives, Yakub is a role model as he stood against a mighty government. For a Muslim man in India to show such courage against decades-long State-backed injustice is laudable.

Some of us had met him after the rapists were released. He mentioned how intimidating their Whatsapp status and indirect but intentional conversations were. He feared for the safety of Bilkis and his family. Some Muslim families had started moving out in fear of another round of violence following the remission. Such is the nature of this crime! It was both traumatic and enraging to see Yakub in tears.

Finally, they won. Justice BV Nagarathna and Justice Ujjal Bhuyan have proved that the Supreme Court can choose dignified commitment to justice. The apex court cannot bring back her family and undo her trauma, but Bilkis Bano can finally move on. It should never have taken this long to rebuild her life. Indeed. I wish every woman in India the — ‘Bilkis strength’ — but never her trauma!

The narrator has focused on gender violence and human rights violations in Kashmir and other ‘occupied’ zones.

SC Stays Order For Appointing Commission For Shahi Eidgah Mosque: Mathura

The Supreme Court on Tuesday stayed the Allhabadad High Court order for appointment of a Commission for the Shahi Eidgah Mosque in connection with Mathura’s Sri Krishna Janmabhoomi-Shahi Idgah Masjid dispute.

A bench of justices Sanjiv Khanna and Dipankar Datta also issued notice to concerned respondents on a plea filed by the Committee of Management Trust Shahi Masjid Idgah challenging the Allahabad High Court order for the appointment of a Commission for the Shahi Eidgah Mosque.

The court listed the matter for January 23 for further hearing.

The court said that proceedings before the trial court can be continued but the commission cannot be executed till the next date of hearings.

The court observed that HC has acted on a vague application seeking omnibus directions.

The court noted that the application has to be specific.

“This is wrong, you have to be very clear about what you want… It is an omnibus application,” the court said.

The Committee of Management Trust Shahi Masjid Idgah has filed an appeal in the Supreme Court challenging the Allahabad High Court order for the appointment of a Commission for the Shahi Eidgah Mosque.

Advocate Reena N. Singh, representing Bhagwan Sri Krishna Lalla Virajman told ANI “Today, the court heard about the survey order of the Allahabad High Court case which was being challenged by the Muslim side. The Intezamia Committee had challenged the order and today the Supreme Court stayed the survey order only. But they have not stayed the trial. The trial at Allahabad High Court will continue. The next date of hearing is on 23rd January.”

The Special Leave Petition (SLP) by the mosque committee challenged the order dated December 14 passed by the High Court of Judicature at Allahabad allowing an Application for the appointment of a Commission for the Shahi Eidgah Mosque where prayers are being regularly offered by the Muslim community from time immemorial.

“The High Court has allowed the Application for appointment of a Commission without considering the objections of the Petitioner herein and without considering the fact that the very existence of the Suit has been questioned by the Petitioner herein, whose Application under Order VII Rule 11 of the CPC for rejection of the Plaint has been kept pending without any decision,” the petition copy said.

Committee of Management Trust Shahi Masjid Idgah was represented by advocates Tasneem Ahmadi, Mehmood Pracha and RHA Sikander.

The Supreme Court is also dealing with various matters relating to Mathura’s Krishna Janambhoomi land dispute.

Earlier Committee of Management Trust Shahi Masjid Idgah filed an appeal in the top court challenging the Allahabad High Court order which transfers to itself all the petitions relating to Mathura’s Krishna Janambhoomi land dispute from District Court Mathura, Uttar Pradesh.

Masjid Idgah challenged the order dated May 26 passed by the Allahabad High Court whereby it transferred all such cases relating to the Krishna Janambhoomi dispute from the District Court Mathura, Uttar Pradesh, to itself.

Ranjana Agnihotri, a resident of Lucknow, had filed a suit in Mathura court demanding the ownership of 13.37 acres of land of Shri Krishna Janmabhoomi.

In her legal suit, Agnihotri demanded the removal of the Shahi Idgah mosque built in Krishna Janmabhoomi.

The suit filed in the Mathura court sought the removal of a mosque said to have been built in 1669-70 on the orders of the Mughal Emperor Aurangzeb in the 13.37-acre premises of Katra Keshav Dev temple, near the birthplace of Lord Krishna. (ANI)

Biden Donald Trump MAGA Republicans

You And Me Vs. Extreme MAGA Republicans: Biden After Trump’s Win

President Joe Biden has called former President Donald Trump the ‘front runner’ of the “other side” after his landslide victory in Iowa caucuses and termed the 2024 contest as, “you and me” versus the “extreme MAGA Republicans”.

Notably, Trump’s victory has solidified his position as the front-runner for the 2024 Republican nomination to turn up against incumbent Joe Biden in a 2020 rematch.

“Looks like Donald Trump just won Iowa. He’s the clear front runner on the other side at this point. But here’s the thing: this election was always going to be you and me vs. extreme MAGA Republicans. It was true yesterday and it’ll be true tomorrow,” Joe Biden posted on X.

President Biden’s remarks come after Trump won the Iowa caucus according to multiple projections.

According to the latest figures by CNN, with around 91 per cent of the results released, Trump is expected to win 20 of Iowa’s 40 delegates.

Florida Governor Ron DeSantis and former South Carolina Governor Nikki Haley are estimated to get eight and seven delegates, respectively.

Trump’s victory in his first election since his unusual exit in 2020 has also laid to rest any lingering questions about his hold over the GOP and the potency of his right-wing message.

The focus of the race will now turn to New Hampshire, which will hold its first-in-the-nation Republican primary on January 23.

Notably, in Trump’s 2016 presidential bid, he lost Iowa to then-candidate Senator Ted Cruz (R-Texas) before going on to win New Hampshire and then the nomination, The Hill reported.

However, the road ahead is not easy for the former president as he continues to face substantial challenges to his campaign, including multiple criminal indictments and ongoing legal battles in courtrooms across the country.

In a handful of states, he even faces efforts to remove him from the ballot. Last month, the Colorado Supreme Court ruled that Trump is ‘disqualified’ from competing in the race under the 14th Amendment’s insurrection clause, finding that he violated his oath with his actions around January 6, 2021. Maine’s Secretary of State also disqualified Trump under the 14th Amendment.

But Trump has framed his legal issues as “political attacks” arguing he is the victim of a “witch hunt” as he vies for another term.

“We’re going to win the Iowa caucuses and then we’re going to crush crooked Joe Biden next November,” The Hill quoted Trump as saying in a rally in Iowa last month.

“I have polls that show me leading by tremendous amount in New Hampshire and a lot in Iowa. And nationwide, we’re leading by almost 60 points. So, I’m not exactly worried about it,” Trump said at Fox News town hall. “I think we’re going to do very well in New Hampshire.” (ANI)

DRDO Tapas

DRDO To Continue With Tapas Drone Project

The DRDO is continuing with its project to further develop the Tapas medium-altitude, long endurance (MALE) drone in which one of the three services has shown interest to use them around the Andaman and Nicobar Islands for operations.

The Tapas drones being developed by the Aeronautical Development Establishment Laboratory have not been able to fully meet the Joint Services Qualitative Requirements of flying at 30,000 feet for over 24 hours at a stretch and have been excluded from the category of mission mode projects.

“One of the defence forces has shown interest in using the Tapas drones for operations in the Andaman and Nicobar Islands, where it can be used for surveillance and reconnaissance,” sources in the Defence Research and Development Organisation said.

The Tapas drones have been tested by the defence forces and during the trials, it managed to reach 28,000 feet altitude and could fly for over 18 hours, they said.

In one of the trials, the drone was also operated by Indian Navy officials over the Arabian Sea for a few hours after it flew from an airfield in Chitradurga, Karnataka.

The sources said that the runway length required for the Tapas drone to take off is not very long and can be used from some of the small airfields in the island territories.

DRDO officials said the laboratory concerned would be working on improving designs and increasing the power in the drone to make it more suitable for service requirements of altitude and endurance, which it was not able to meet in the recent evaluations.

The premier defence research agency led by Dr Samir V Kamat has been working on major drone projects, including unmanned combat aerial vehicles like Ghatak and other projects like Archer. (ANI).
