Our Govt Has Done More For Farmers: Rajnath

As protesting farmers continued to mass and hold their ground on Delhi’s borders on Saturday, amid attempts at a breakthrough in talks with the Centre, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh on Saturday said Prime Minister Narendra Modi considered them as his family members.

Addressing the BJP’s ongoing national convention at the state-of-the-art Bharat Mandapam in the national capital, Rajnath said the NDA government has done more for farmers and the agriculture sector than all previous governments at the Centre.

The Defence Minister said the BJP’s roadmap for the country’s development will be before the people once the party is elected for a third, straight term at the Centre.

“A lot has been done over the last 10 years of this government in the interest of farmers. The highest input cost for farmers is the one that goes into purchasing and sourcing fertilisers. Across the world, today, a bag of urea is priced at Rs 3,000 but in our country, it is available at Rs 300 per bag. The budgetary allocation for the agricultural sector used to be Rs 25,000 crore before 2014. However, it has since been increased to Rs 1,25,000 crore. Nearly Rs 18 lakh crore has been received by farmers in the form of MSP in the last 10 years. Our government has given 2.5 per cent more MSP to the farmers. Also, till now, farmers have received Rs 2,80,000 crore under PM Kisan Samman Nidhi. Under PM Safal Bima Yojana, they paid Rs 30 crore in premiums and successfully claimed Rs 1.5 lakh crore,” Rajnath said.

“Today, India’s agricultural export has reached Rs 4 lakh crore. I previously served the country as the Agriculture Minister and can say with full confidence that our government has done more for the farmers than all previous regimes at the Centre combined. For PM, farmers are no less than his family members. He has always been very sympathetic towards the problems and distress faced by our farmers,” the Raksha Mantri added.

He stated further that under the Centre’s ‘Direct Benefit Transfer Scheme’, Rs 3 lakh crore in public wealth was saved from falling into the wrong hands.

“Our government strove relentlessly to transfer the money (allocated under central initiatives) to the account of every beneficiary under the Direct Benefit Transfer Scheme. The result was that Rs 3 lakh crore in public money was saved from falling into the wrong hands. In 2014, startups in India numbered only between 300-500. Today, the number has grown upwards of 1,20,000. Mobile manufacturing, too, has gone up five times in just the last 10 years. To ensure ease of doing business, 40,000 compliances have either been removed or simplified. Capital expenditure has gone up five times in 10 years to Rs 10 lakh crore,” Rajnath said.

He noted further that more than 25,000 railway tracks have been laid and more than 1300 railway stations have seen an overhaul under the ‘Amrit Bharat Station’ Scheme.

“The length of the high-speed corridor, which was 500 km 10 years ago, has today increased to more than 4000 kms. Nearly two lakh gram panchayats in the country have been connected with optical fibre. Under Ayushman Bharat, more than Rs 1 lakh crore has been set aside for the poor. A discount of 80 per cent on medicines is also available at PM Jan Aushdi Kendras. It has saved the poor save Rs 30,000 crore in medical expenses,” he added.

“Today the poor are getting loans without guarantees. They are part of the guarantees of PM Modi,” Rajnath said.

In a veiled swipe at the TMC government in West Bengal over the violent crackdowns on Opposition protests and allegations of excesses on women in Sandeshkhali, the Defence Minister said such incidents are a blot on a civilized society.

“Whatever happened in Sandeshkhali is reprehensible. I commend our workers, who are fighting for the distressed women of Sandeshkhali in the face of state oppression and tyranny. Such incidents are a blot on a civilised society. It should be condemned in the strongest terms,” he said. (ANI)

Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi

Our Peculiar Election Has Also Confused Google: Abbasi

Amid the frenetic power play and uncertainty around the formation of the new government in Pakistan, former Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi, said the politics of grabbing power has always been harmful to the country and its people.

Abassi made the remarks while speaking to media persons after attending the hearing of the PSO unlawful recruiting case before an accountability court here. He said anyone who comes to power under the current conditions will be incapable of resolving national challenges.

“Our peculiar election has also confused Google, which has been tired of issuing results,” he said.

“It has an easy way-out that the one, who has been the winner in Form 45, is the winner of election, but here form 47 has won and form 45 has lost,” ARY News quoted Abbasi as saying further.

“I earlier said that the election will bring chaos, which has proved, thankfully I didn’t participate in this practice,” the former PM added.

“Everyone is vying for power promising to lead the situation to betterment, one who will make more compromises will become the prime minister,” he said.

Bracing reporters earlier, Abbasi said he was satisfied with his decision not to contest the general elections, adding, however, that it does not mean he has left politics.

He warned that any attempt to “manipulate their mandate will result in unsustainable chaos”.

“The heat of the electoral process has passed; it is time to allow the country to heal,” the former PM said, in a word of caution to the country’s power brokers amid the flurry of talks and parleys towards forming a new dispensation at the Centre.

The remarks by Shahid Khaqan Abbasi underscored the need for collective action and cooperation among political leaders to steer Pakistan through its current challenges, according to the report.

The Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaaf (PTI), founded by now-deposed and jailed PM Imran Khan, alleged mass rigging in the general elections. (ANI)

ISRO Set To Launch Weather Monitoring Satellite INSAT-3DS Today

The Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) is set to launch its meteorological satellite INSAT-3DS aboard spacecraft GSLV F14 at 5.35 pm Saturday from the Sriharikota spaceport. It will study weather forecasts and natural disaster warnings.

In its 16th mission, the GSLV aims to deploy the INSAT-3DS meteorological satellite into the Geosynchronous Transfer Orbit (GTO). Subsequent orbit-raising maneuvers will ensure that the satellite is positioned in a Geo-stationary Orbit.

INSAT-3DS Satellite is a follow-on mission of Third Generation Meteorological Satellite from Geostationary Orbit.

The mission is fully funded by the Ministry of Earth Sciences (MoES).

It is designed for enhanced meteorological observations and monitoring of land and ocean surfaces for weather forecasting and disaster warning. The satellite will augment the Meteorological services along with the presently operational INSAT-3D and INSAT-3DR satellites.

Indian Industries have significantly contributed to the making of the Satellite.

Various departments of the Ministry of Earth Sciences (MoES) such as the India Meteorology Department (IMD), National Centre for Medium-Range Weather Forecasting (NCMRWF), Indian Institute of Tropical Meteorology (IITM), National Institute of Ocean Technology (NIOT), Indian National Center for Ocean Information Services (INCOIS) and various other agencies and institutes will be using the INSAT-3DS Satellite data to provide improved weather forecasts and meteorological services.

The primary objectives of the mission are to monitor Earth’s surface, carry out oceanic observations and its environment in various spectral channels of meteorological importance — to provide the vertical profile of various meteorological parameters of the Atmosphere.

Among others, it will provide the Data Collection and Data Dissemination capabilities from the Data Collection Platforms (DCPs), and to provide Satellite Aided Search and Rescue services.

Ahead of the mission launch, ISRO Chairman S Somanath offered prayers at Sri Chengalamma Temple in Sullurpet, Andhra Pradesh.

“We have the launch of GSLV rocket carrying a meteorological satellite-INSAT-3DS for weather climate studies today. This satellite is built for the Ministry of Earth Sciences. It is the third satellite in the INSAT series of satellites,” he told reporters in brief.

“However, night curfew will continue from 8pm to 6am in Gaujajali, FSI, Godown area. The night curfew will continue in the rest of the areas under Banbhoolpura police station from 5pm to 6am,” Nanital Police posted on X.

The curfew was imposed and the administration issued shoot-at-sight orders after stone-pelting incidents, torching of vehicles and a mob surrounded the local police station following the anti-encroachment drive.
