Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal seeking bail

BJP Has Initiated ‘Operation Jhaadu’ To Crush AAP: Kejriwal

In a swipe at the Bharatiya Janata Party, Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal said on Sunday that the BJP has initiated ‘Operation Jhaddu’ to crush AAP, adding that the BJP plans to arrest all the big leaders of his party.

The statement by the Delhi CM was made at DDU Marg in the national capital before his planned protest march towards the BJP headquarters on Sunday. All the top brass of AAP were present at the rally.

“BJP has started ‘Operation Jhaadu’ so that we don’t grow big and become a challenge to them. Through ‘Operation Jhaadu’, AAP’s big leaders will be arrested; they are being arrested, and in the coming days, AAP’s bank accounts will be frozen,” said Kejriwal.

It is pertinent to note that Kejriwal’s strong statement against the ruling BJP comes a day after his former PA, Bibhav Kumar’s arrest in connection with the alleged assault on AAP Rajya Sabha MP Swati Maliwal.

During his address, Kejriwal further said that the BJP is conspiring to freeze the bank accounts of AAP leaders once the 2024 general elections are over.

“ED’s lawyer has already given this statement in court that soon after the election, AAP’s bank accounts will be frozen. He said that if they freeze our account now, we will get sympathy. After the election, they will freeze our accounts, our office will be cleared out, and we will be brought to the streets. These are the 3 plans made by the BJP,” said Kejriwal.

The Chief Minister said that no gold or money has been recovered from him, and the BJP, by creating false cases, got AAP leaders arrested.

“Since I came to power in 2015, how many allegations did they (BJP) raise? Now that they say that the liquor policy scam has happened, people are asking them if the scam happened and where the money is. In other places, when raids happen, notes and gold are recovered, but here nothing was found. Where is all the money? They (BJP) made fake cases and arrested our people,” Kejriwal pointed out.

Meanwhile, in connection with the assault case, Bibhav Kumar was produced before Delhi’s Tis Hazari Court, which remanded him in police custody for five days.

The former aide of the AAP supremo earlier emailed the Delhi Police, stating that he was ready to cooperate in the ongoing probe into Maliwal’s assault claim while adding that they should also take cognizance of his complaint.

Bibhav lodged a counter-complaint with the police earlier, accusing Maliwal of gaining ‘unauthorised entry’ into the CM’s Civil Lines residence and ‘verbally abusing’ him.

In his complaint, Kejriwal’s former PA charged the AAP MP with unauthorised entry, verbal abuse, and threats while also claiming the BJP’s involvement in the matter.

Maliwal, in her complaint, alleged that Bibhav “slapped” her “at least seven to eight times” while she “continued screaming” and “brutally dragged” her while “kicking” her in her “chest, stomach, and pelvis area.”

Notably, the Vigilance Department had last month terminated Bibhav’s service as Kejriwal’s PA over a pending criminal case.

Meanwhile, Delhi Police on Sunday detained several workers of the ruling party as they marched towards the BJP headquarters in the national capital as part of a planned ‘Jail Bharo’ protest. (ANI)

Farooq Demands International Investigation Agencies Probe Recent Killings In JK

Condemning the shooting of a man and a couple by terrorists in two different incidents in Shopian and Anantnag, Jammu and Kashmir National Conference (JKNC) Chief Farooq Abdullah said that terrorism continues to exist here.

“Terrorism still exists here. No matter which party member he (BJP leader and ex-Sarpanch Aijaz Ahmad Sheikh) belonged to, targeting somebody, needs to be investigated. Whether he was killed by terrorists or people here, before pointing fingers at somebody, it needs to be investigated fast,” Farooq Abdullah told ANI in an exclusive interview.

He further highlighted that such attacks will adversely impact the tourism industry in Jammu and Kashmir.

“Tourists were also attacked in Pahalgam. This is a tragedy, it is affecting our tourism industry,” said the JKNC chief.

Farooq Abdullah demanded that international pressure must be created and that there is a need for a probe involving international investigating agencies into the recent killings.

“Yesterday, I said that until the terrorism stops, there won’t be any talks with our neighbouring country (Pakistan). We need cooperation from them. We need to identify the person who is coming here and killing the innocent. International pressure must be created, and international investigating agencies must probe the matter,” he added.

Meanwhile, a former BJP Sarpanch, Aijaz Ahmad Sheikh was killed, and a couple from Jaipur were injured in two separate incidents of firing by terrorists in Jammu and Kashmir’s Shopian and Anantnag districts, respectively, late on Saturday night, police said.

In the second incident, a couple from Jaipur was injured in the Yannar area of South Kashmir’s Anantnag district.

The police stated that the terrorists fired upon and injured a lady, Farha, a resident of Jaipur, and her spouse, Tabrez, at Yannar in Anantnag. The injured were evacuated and taken to the hospital for treatment.

According to sources, the condition of the injured couple is stable. (ANI)

Police Considering Adding IPC For Destruction Of Evidence Against Bibhav

Amid the mega political summer slam between the ruling AAP and the BJP over the arrest of CM Arvind Kejriwal’s former aide in connection with the alleged assault on Rajya Sabha MP Swati Maliwal, Delhi Police sources on Sunday said it was considering adding the section for destruction of evidence in the case.

The development came close on the heels of the AAP leader and former chairperson of the Delhi Commission for Women (DCW) alleging that Bibhav deleted parts of the CCTV footage from the CM’s Civil Lines residence that would have established his guilt beyond any reasonable doubt while validating her claim of assault.

Meanwhile, according to sources in Delhi Police, Kejriwal’s former personal assistant Bibhav Kumar, who was arrested on Saturday and is grilled for leads in the assault case, wasn’t cooperating with the ongoing probe.

Earlier, on Saturday, Bibhav was arrested in connection with the alleged assault on Maliwal and was produced before Delhi’s Tis Hazari Court, which remanded him in police custody for five days.

Further, according to sources in the Delhi Police, the sleuths could take Bibhav to Mumbai as they suspect that he dumped or disposed of all relevant phone data in the city before having it re-formatted.

According to sources, the police will try to retrieve the phone data with the help of forensic experts. Kejriwal’s former aide could also be taken to the CM’s Civil Lines residence in Delhi to determine the exact reason for the ‘fight’.

On Saturday, Metropolitan Magistrate Gaurav Goyal remanded Bibhav to five days of police custody for further questioning in the case. He is scheduled to be produced before the court again on May 23, once the term of his remand expires.

Delhi Police, earlier, sought a week-long custody of the CM’s former PA. Bibhav, who was arrested at 4.15 pm on Saturday, was produced before Delhi’s Tis Hazari Court around 9.15 pm.

Bibhav was booked under IPC sections 308 (attempt to commit culpable homicide), 354B (assault or use of criminal force on a woman with intent to disrobe), 341 (punishment for wrongful restraint), 506 (punishment for criminal intimidation), and 509 (word, gesture, or act intended to insult the modesty of a woman).

Earlier, in his first response to Bibhav’s arrest in the assault case, CM Kejriwal accused the BJP at the Centre of playing ‘Jail Ka Khel’ (game of putting leaders in jail) with the AAP, adding that they would lead a ‘Jail Bharo’ march to the BJP’s headquarters on Sunday along with fellow party heavyweights as well as workers.

Ahead of the AAP march, Delhi Police, earlier in the day, threw an elaborate security ring around the BJP’s national headquarters while also issuing a traffic advisory, warning of snarls at DDU Marg, IP Marg, Minto Road and Vikas Marg. It added that the DDU Marg may remain closed to traffic between 11 am and 2 pm, urging commuters to avoid stretches that are likely to experience logjams.

Maliwal, in her complaint, alleged that Kejriwal’s former personal secretary “slapped” her “at least seven to eight times” while she “continued screaming” and “brutally dragged” her while “kicking” her in her “chest, stomach and pelvis area.” (ANI)

‘Jail Bharo’

Section 144 Imposed On DDU Marg Ahead Of ‘Jail Bharo’ March

Amid the mega political showdown over the arrest of CM Kejriwal’s former aide in connection with the alleged assault on AAP Rajya Sabha MP Swati Maliwal, Delhi Police on Sunday detained some people who were protesting against the ruling party in the national capital.

The people, sporting black topis inscribed with the words ‘Aajan Aadmi Party’, were rounded up and dragged into police vehicles.

The AAP, earlier on Friday, declared a ‘Jail Bharo’ march to the BJP headquarters in the national capital to protest what they claimed to be arbitrary arrests of its leader at the behest of the Centre.

Decrying the arrest of his former aide in the assault case, CM Kejriwal, on Saturday, accused the BJP at the Centre of resorting to a ‘Jail Ka Khel’ (game of putting leaders in jail) against his party, adding that he would lead a ‘Jail Bharo’ march to the BJP headquarters on Sunday along with his top party leaders as well as workers.

Speaking to ANI on Sunday, DCP Delhi Central, Harsha Vardhan Mandava said, “Based on the information we received through social media and other channels, we have made preventive arrangements on DDU Marg to ensure that the law and order are maintained at all costs. We are focused and committed to making adequate security deployments and have barricades in place to ward off any attempt to disrupt law and order.”

“Section 144 has been imposed on DDU Marg and there is no permission for any kind of protest here,” he informed.

Earlier in the day, elaborate security arrangements were made outside the BJP headquarters ahead of the AAP’s ‘Jail Bharo’ march.

Delhi Traffic Police issued an advisory ahead of the AAP protest, warning of possible snarls at DDU Marg, IP Marg, Minto Road and Vikas Marg. It added that DDU Marg may remain closed to traffic between 11 am to 2 pm, urging commuters to avoid stretches that are likely to experience logjams.

Earlier, on Saturday, Kejriwal’s former PA was arrested in connection with the alleged assault on Maliwal. He was produced before the Tis Hazari Court, which remanded him in police custody for five days.

Earlier, the AAP chief released a personalised video after Bibhav’s arrest, saying, “You can see how they (BJP) are after the AAP. One after another, they are putting our leaders behind bars. They put me, Manish Sisodia, Satyendra Jain, and Sanjay Singh behind bars. Today, they put my (former) PA in jail. Now they are saying they will put Raghav Chadha, Atishi, and Saurabh Bharadwaj in jail. Perhaps it was our fault that we built schools and mohalla clinics, while also providing electricity for free, which they failed to accomplish. I would like to tell the Prime Minister: you are playing a ‘jail ka khel’ with us. Tomorrow, I will lead a march to the BJP headquarters along with all my top leaders, MLAs, and MPs at noon. You can put whoever you want in jail,” Kejriwal said.

Significantly, the Vigilance Department, last month, terminated Bibhav’s service as the CM’s personal assistant over a pending criminal case. (ANI)

unfavourable narratives' about India West Europe

Europe, West Being Fed Negative Stories About India: UK Daily

Shedding light into what he claimed were prevailing ‘misconceptions’ surrounding India in the West, Sam Stevenson, the assistant editor of the UK-based newspaper, Daily Express, said Europe and the West are ‘inundated’ with ‘unfavourable narratives’ about India, primarily propagated by the media.

“Unfortunately, the perceptions of India across Europe and the West are not good. And this is because we are being fed negative stories from the press,” Stevenson said, pointing to the ‘detrimental’ impact of ‘biased reporting’ on public opinion.

In a candid assessment of the perception of India in the Western world, Stevenson told ANI expanded on the prevalence of negative narratives fuelled by media coverage.

Stevenson, who recently visited India, emphasised the importance of firsthand experiences in understanding the country’s reality, saying, “People need to come here, see it with their own eyes, live it, breathe it, meet the people, speak to people on the ground, and you will be seeing that new India, global Britain, we can be a force for good.”

While advocating for a more nuanced approach to reporting, he also weighed in on the portrayal of religious dynamics in India, calling out the ‘simplistic narratives’ perpetuated by the media. “The British media are attempting to simplify something that’s very complicated. They’re saying (PM) Modi is anti-Islam. But actually, when you get on the ground and you speak to real Muslims, when you speak to Hindus, Sikhs, you will see that India is accepting of all cultures or religions. And that is the absolutely fantastic thing about this place,” he said, underscoring the country’s rich diversity and inclusivity.

Stevenson, who was in India recently to cover the ongoing general elections, also stressed the need to portray a more accurate picture of the country, saying, “It’s time to start telling the positive stories of new India, of this great nation on its epic trajectory to becoming a USD 5 trillion economy in the future.”

He also advocated shifting the prevalent narrative towards highlighting India’s successes and potential.

Amid the pushback in the power corridors of the country against ‘biased reporting’ in a section of the Western media, Stevenson underscored the responsibility of the media in presenting a comprehensive and accurate portrayal of India. “It’s time to say enough with the India bashing. Down with the anti-India ‘Bakwas’. We need to come here and tell the true, positive stories of new India,” he said, advocating a more informed and nuanced understanding of the country’s complexities.

Expressing dismay over the prevailing narrative around alleged divisions on grounds of religion in India, Stevenson challenged these notions citing his firsthand experiences. “We’re hearing things like religious divisions, but that’s not what we’ve witnessed on the ground,” he said, citing the communal harmony on show at the campaign rallies of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

Stevenson vowed to challenge existing narratives and bring forth the “reality of India’s pluralistic society”. “We’re here to level up the British media’s coverage of this nation. And we’re here to get to the truth and find some real facts and bring them home to London,” he signed off saying, underscoring his commitment to journalistic integrity and factual reporting. (ANI)

Low Voter Turnout Helps BJP

Low Voter Turnout & Social Media Chatter Help the BJP More than Others

Months before India’s ongoing parliamentary elections began on 19 April, the nearly unanimous perception was that a third term for Prime Minister Narendra Modi was assured; and that the only matter in question was how many of the 543 seats in the Lok Sabha his party, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and its allies who make up the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) would end up winning–would it be more than the 353 that it won in 2019 or would it be less.

Modi and his party proclaimed that they would aim to get more than 400 seats, an ambitious target that represents nearly 75% of the seats in Lok Sabha.

Yet, after the second phase of elections were held on 26 April, the mood began to change. India’s elections are notoriously tricky to predict because of the vast and diverse population. The nearly billion voters who are eligible to vote are so culturally, socio-economically, and ideologically diverse that it is like an agglomeration of several countries trying to democratically elect a government that would rule over them all.

Who Benefits from Low Voter Turnout?

Still, when reports showed that in the first two phases of the seven phases of voting, the turnout of eligible voters was lower than it had been in the 2019 elections, hopes soared among supporters of the Opposition and Modi’s critics. Probably, erroneously so. Official figures released by the Election Commission say that in the first phase 66.14% of voters turned up to vote (compared to 69.29% in 2019); and in the second phase, the turnout was 66.71% (compared to 69.43%). In the third and fourth phases, the turnout was a bit higher than in the first two.

Many detractors of the Modi regime read the dip in turnout as an indication of waning interest in voting for the BJP, and surmised that this could be the harbinger of good news for the INDI alliance, the NDA’s main rival and a political front made up of more than two dozen opposition parties. They could be wrong. Low turnout of voters actually helps the BJP more than any other electoral contender in India’s elections. Here’s why.

The BJP, unlike other Indian political parties such as the Congress, is a cadre-based organisation. Cadres are groups of people trained to carry out the goals of a political party and disseminate and enforce the official ideology. Such a system is most commonly prevalent in socialist or communist organisations where they are meant to spread loyalty and obedience to party rules and are responsible for mobilising citizens.

The BJP’s cadres are activated mostly during the elections. In the BJP’s well-oiled electoral machinery, cadres known as “Panna Pramukhs” play a crucial role during elections. The term Panna Pramukh translates to “page in-charge.” Here’s what it is: The concept of Panna Pramukhs was introduced by the former BJP president and current Union home minister Amit Shah, who is also Modi’s closest confidant, during the 2014 Lok Sabha Elections in Uttar Pradesh. The idea was to focus on a micro-level approach by assigning one person to each page of the local voter list.

Each Panna Pramukh is responsible for maintaining regular contact with voters whose names appear on a specific page (usually three to five families). In the run-up to the elections, Panna Pramukhs encourage voters to avail of the government’s welfare measures and help them in that effort and their duty extends until the election day when they try and ensure that the voters they are responsible for turn up and cast their votes. Panna Pramukhs are the party’s first point of contact with voters to ensure personalised communication and engagement.

Voter turnout can be low for a number of reasons: for instance, when the weather is oppressively hot and people don’t want to go out and vote; or, when there is a perception, as is likely in the ongoing elections, that there is no real contest and, therefore, an individual’s vote could have little impact on the results; or when there is no big overarching issue that mobilises people.

In 2019, for instance, the Lok Sabha elections took place shortly after the Pulwama attack, when a convoy of vehicles carrying Indian security personnel on the Jammu–Srinagar National Highway was ambushed by a vehicle-borne suicide bomber at Lethapora in the Pulwama district of the erstwhile state of Jammu and Kashmir. Forty Indian security personnel died. Analysts concluded that the incident could have spurred higher turnout of voters who were concerned about national security. As it happened, the BJP and its allies ended up with a massive victory in those elections.

This time there is no huge overriding incident such as the Pulwama attack although the widely publicised inauguration of the Ram Temple in Ayodhya could have an impact on which way some voters belonging to the majority Hindu community will lean. Yet, this election’s lower voter turnout is unlikely to impact the BJP as much as it can hit other parties because the former’s Panna Pramukhs will continue in their pro-active duties undeterred and, as a result, even if fewer voters turned up to vote, more of them would likely be voting for the BJP’s candidates rather than for their opponents. So, low voter turnout could help the BJP but not its opponents.

Who Benefits from Social Media Chatter?

In late April and early May, shortly after the first two phases of polling, there were perceptible changes in the electoral atmosphere. India’s elections are noisy, combative affairs where at public rallies, political leaders don’t pull their punches. Widely publicised video clips, distributed mainly on social media apps such as X, WhatsApp, and Facebook, showed both the BJP and its opponents getting into an aggressive mode. Modi’s speeches attacked the Congress, accusing it of following policies of redistributing wealth to appease infiltrators, construed to mean Muslims; opposition leaders, in turn, accused him and the BJP of stoking communal hatred towards minorities; and some of them, such as the Congress’ Rahul Gandhi publicly asked whether Modi was showing signs of being nervous of losing the elections.

On social media platforms, this changed perception was interpreted as a trend that the BJP and its allies were probably not faring as well as they had hoped they would. Armchair analysts proffered theories that said the ruling regime would find it hard to win a majority of seats and could fall far below what was earlier expected.

The fact is that although the numbers of Indians that use social media platforms such as X (24 million have accounts on that platform); WhatsApp (400 million); and YouTube (462 million users) are huge, there is no accurate analysis of who these users are and how much of the activity on these platforms has an influence on voting decisions.

Even so, it is the BJP that has been able to leverage social media platforms to distribute its messaging and campaigns better than any other Indian political party. Last week, the Pulitzer Center, a US-based nonprofit whose mission is “to empower a global community of journalists and media outlets to deepen engagement with critical underreported issues”, published a report titled “Inside the BJP’s WhatsApp Machine”, which analysed thousands of messages on WhatsApp to show how BJP uses the app to campaign in the closed environs of WhatsApp groups that are free from public scrutiny.

With the phenomenal growth of social media users in India, most major political parties have adopted these platforms as part of their campaign strategy during elections but none of them have been as efficient as the BJP.

According to the Pulitzer Center report, “the scale of the BJP’s WhatsApp operations is incomparable to that of any other political party in the country”. The BJP’s WhatsApp network is vast and, according to one estimate, there are now at least a staggering five million WhatsApp groups operated by the BJP and these are capable of disseminating messages from Delhi to any part of the country within minutes.

Predicting India’s elections can be a mug’s game. In India’s past elections, number crunching psephologists and analysts have often got it wrong. Only when, in two weeks from now, all seven phases of voting are finally completed and the results come out, will we know how effective the BJP’s mighty election machine has been this time.

AAP says Swati Maliwal Charges Are Fake

AAP Says Assault Charges By Swati Maliwal Are Fake

Terming the whole Swati Maliwal assault case as “fake”, Delhi Minister and Aam Aadmi Party leader Atishi alleged that Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal’s aide Bibhav Kumar was arrested because the Bharatiya Janata Party and Delhi Police are aware that the case is “weak”.

She further said that when the Delhi court was about to dictate its order for Bibhav Kumar’s bail plea, he was arrested and his petition was termed ‘infructuous’.

Addressing a press conference on Saturday, Atishi said, “Today, police took CM Arvind Kerjiwal’s PA Bibhav Kumar for questioning in the fake case filed by Swati Maliwal. Right from the morning, the news started running that Arvind Kejriwal’s PA has been arrested…all this has completely exposed BJP’s conspiracy, that their intention is to disturb the party and its campaign and arrest Kejriwal’s PA Bibhav Kumar.”

The Delhi Minister said that the hearing for Bibhav Kumar’s bail plea started at 3:55 pm, and just 20 minutes later he was arrested by the Delhi Police.

“The hearing started at 3:55 pm. As soon as Bibhav Kumar’s lawyers started putting forth the arguments, the BJP and Delhi Police came to know that their case was completely fake, and the verdict wouldn’t be in their favour. Because of this, just 20 minutes after the hearing started, Civil Lines police station arrested Bibhav Kumar,” she said.

Atishi said that the two purported videos of Maliwal that have surfaced make clear that “no assault took place” against the former Delhi Commission of Women (DCW) chief.

She was apparently referring to the two videos — one inside Kejriwal’s residence purportedly showing Maliwal, Bibhav Kumar and other security personnel. The second outside Kejriwal’s residence shows Maliwal going out.

“BJP and its Delhi Police know that this case is fake. The two videos that came out in the last two days make everything clear, that no assault was made against her (Swati Maliwal). That’s why they didn’t even let the hearing of anticipatory bail complete,” the AAP leader said.

“When the Court was about to dictate its order at 4:45 PM, the Delhi Police counsel through VC said that this is no longer the need of anticipatory bail. It has become infructuous because Bibhav Kumar has been arrested. BJP and its Delhi Police have shown to the country, that even they know their case is weak, and if the hearing takes place, Bibhav Kumar will come out on bail,” she added.

She further reiterated Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal’s announcement that all party leaders and ministers will reach BJP headquarters tomorrow to get “arrested”.

“Today, Arvind Kejriwal has challenged PM Modi that instead of arresting one leader and the other on false charges, arrest every leader of Aam Aadmi Party. Tomorrow at 12 pm, under Kejriwal’s leadership, every party leader, minister and MLA will go to BJP headquarters to give their arrest,” Atishi further said.

Bibhav Kumar has been detained by the Delhi Police. The former aide of the AAP supremo, meanwhile, emailed Delhi Police stating that he was ready to cooperate in the ongoing probe into Maliwal’s assault claim while adding that they should also take cognisance of his complaint.

Bibhav, on Friday, lodged a counter-complaint with the police accusing Maliwal of gaining ‘unauthorised entry’ into the CM’s Civil Lines residence and ‘verbally abusing’ him.In his complaint, Kejriwal’s former PA charged Maliwal with unauthorised entry, verbal abuse, and threats while also claiming the BJP’s involvement in the matter.

Maliwal in her complaint has alleged that Kejriwal’s Personal Secretary Bibhav Kumar “slapped” her “atleast seven to eight times” while she “continued screaming” and “brutally dragged” her while “kicking” her in her “chest, stomach and pelvis area.”

Meanwhile, Delhi Minister and AAP leader Atishi on Saturday claimed that Swati Maliwal filed the assault FIR against Arvind Kejriwal’s aide Bibhav Kumar at the behest of the ruling BJP.

The AAP leader said that the former DCW chief was being used as a ‘pawn’ and was made to ‘hatch this conspiracy’ using an old Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) case as leverage.

Notably, the Vigilance Department had last month terminated the service of Bibhav Kumar, personal assistant (PA) to Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal, over a pending criminal case. (ANI)

NEET Paper Solving Gang

Delhi Police Bust NEET Paper Solving Gang, Four Held

New Delhi District police busted a NEET (National Eligibility-cum-Entrance Test) paper-solving gang and on Saturday also arrested four persons, including two MBBS students.

Devesh Kumar Mahla, DCP, New Delhi, while speaking with ANI, said that they had received a complaint of proxy students appearing for the medical entrance test. He said, “On May 5, during the examination of NEET, we received a complaint that instead of real students, proxy students have come to give the exam. Taking cognizance of the matter, we registered an FIR and transferred the case to Special Staff…”

Mahla added, “During the investigation, we found that the consultant agents had misguided the children. They talked with the students and told them that they would arrange for proxy students who could give the examination on their behalf and clear it as well.”

Elaborating on the investigation, Mahla stated, “For this, they take huge amounts of money from their family. We got to know that these people used to mix the photos of real and proxy students with the help of artificial intelligence (AI) so that their identification becomes difficult at the exam centre.”

The DCP also gave information about the arrest of people related to the case. “We have arrested two people, who are agents. These are Kishori Lal, a resident of Jodhpur in Rajasthan and Prabhat Kumar, who hails from Bihar,” he said.

Mahla added further, “Along with these, we have also arrested proxy students. We are searching for more agents involved in this incident.”

Notably, Rajasthan’s Bharatpur police had also arrested four accused, including the dummy candidate in the NEET exam.

Mridul Kachhawa, SP, Bharatpur, had said, “At an exam centre in Bharatpur, during the biometric investigation, the agencies present there observed a mismatch in the biometrics of a candidate. Upon questioning, it was revealed that a dummy candidate had come in place of the real candidate…”

Kachhawa said that during a police investigation, it was revealed that the dummy candidate was Abhishek Gupta, who was a third-year MBBS student. (ANI)
